441  Economy / Economics / Re: Official says US seized cryptocurrency ransom paid to Colonial Pipeline hackers on: June 08, 2021, 06:17:53 AM
Also, this seizure doesn't mean that they have got it from the hackers, remember that cryptocurrency can be tainted so I don't think there's nothing for this news.
How else can they get to seize them? The assets have been seized and it appears that the only ones who had access to the funds are the hackers themselves. Tainted or not, this doesn't make the coins more seizable or not.
442  Economy / Economics / Re: Official says US seized cryptocurrency ransom paid to Colonial Pipeline hackers on: June 08, 2021, 05:00:26 AM
I'm not surprised to hear about this and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the gov is doing something perhaps... less legal to get to those funds or to persons such as Ross Ublricht. Smiley

I feel like they're only acting like they can't do that much about it when in fact they have access to way more information than we think they do. Anyway, it's funny to think that it's illegal for me to hack someone but it's completely legal for authorities to hack me, lol.
443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple announcing crypto emojis would move the price more than El Salvador did on: June 07, 2021, 01:29:40 PM
That's because the market is too immature right now. Can't call "matured" an asset of which price can be moved literally based on the opinion of a billionaire. Lots of people say gold sucks, yet it doesn't seem to move it this sharply.

You will have to wait a long time before things get a little more stable over here. Until then, memes might move mountains of money like the recent happening with Musk..
444  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Sell My Portfolio for 75% of a Bitcoin? on: June 07, 2021, 06:52:12 AM
Are you in for the long term? Do you care about USD or BTC profits?

Ask yourself questions and determine what the best choice is for you. If you're in for the long term, perhaps Bitcoin is the best option for you. But no matter if you care about USD or BTC profits, Bitcoin almost always provided the largest one over the long term.

However, we obviously have exceptions. Ethereum rose massively since last year, but the BTC value never reached an ATH. Had you invested in it though, you would've had today more money than if you had invested in Bitcoin.

I'd put my money into Bitcoin and keep it for the long term. For me, this was always the safest bet.
445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ANNONIMOUS HACKER TARGET ELON MUSK ABOUT HIS TWEET on: June 06, 2021, 03:23:18 PM
The statement itself won't do much about the current market trend. Worst thing it may do is scare off Musk for a while, although it's unlikely imo. When Musk is done with Bitcoin, someone else will take his place. Last year, it's been MicroStrategy who was the main focus of crypto. Now, it's him. What goes up must come down tho.
446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Doesn’t Exist, Or How Satoshi Nakamoto Tells Lies To People on: June 06, 2021, 09:10:51 AM
You make it sound like we're all nuts and anything related to Bitcoin is just a theory and an imagination. It's not. Actually, the license argument can easily be used as a counter-argument against your main point. If licenses can be sold online and delivered as a text code, then Bitcoin is no different. You can sell it on the internet and it can be delivered in either private keys or the coins can be placed into public addresses. Moreover, you can check the validiity of the license code with Microsoft's database the same way you can check either whether a private key is correct or if a said balance is currently truly sitting on an address.

Bitcoin exists. There's no way one can tell me it doesn't. The fact that it's not physically real but digitally instead is a completely different thing.
447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold ETFs as a "layer 2" solution on: June 05, 2021, 10:14:19 PM
Sometimes, it is. Overhyped at least for the current status of adoption and usage. For example, 2017 was definitely a hype and the end of the year showed how that ends up. However, overall it is not an unsustainable market or mass of users.

I don't think it's useful at all to have a virtual gold as a solution. In fact, this doesn't really solve anything. It doesn't improve (it doesn't even maintain!) Bitcoin's decentralization, security etc nor does it bring anything more useful. It's a waste of time for proving nothing much. Virtual gold will never be the same as real one. We can't bring gold into crypto the same way we can't bring Bitcoin into gold... simple as that!
448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 2021: Ross Ulbricht Talks Bitcoin and Freedom on: June 05, 2021, 05:13:26 PM
Injust sentence for someone who has simply created a website. Imagine pedophiles sometimes receive 4 years with parole for multiple offenses. His speeches and ideas always surprised me positively.

We certainly do always take our rights and freedom for granted, although it is quite often that we don't get them as promised. He seems to having wanted freedom. And the result is exactly as I'd imagine in our modern world. The more freedom you seek, the more injust the system will be.
449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Global adoption — A ridiculous term on: June 05, 2021, 12:41:33 PM
I think you get this wrong, at least for my own definition of global adoption. But I think global adoption itself is like impossible without accepting the fact that a lot of corps will use Bitcoin to their own advantage, making "decentralization" and "freedom" useless for the users accessing their platforms. For example, global adoption imo means PayPal's acceptance too. But PayPal's acceptance means I, as their user, have to hold my money in a custodial account.

That defeats Bitcoin's purpose of being a free currency if I use it incorrectly. Yes, I know: you can still use BTC freely even if you have those platforms existing, and even if your gov bans Bitcoin. They can't stop it, they can just move it to the underground markets. But still, by using it incorrectly, we're defeating its true purpose!

For me, global adoption is not only about the money. I don't care how much a Bitcoin will be as much as I care about it continuing to be a free, decentralized, globally-accepted payment system. I'd lie however if I said I don't care about making money.. The thing is, if you take Apple stocks as an example, some people who've joined them in early saw a future in Apple's existence. Whoever of the early investors who is still holding their stocks today is rich - does that make it a pyramid scheme? It doesn't! The early birds are at the highest profit, while we've seen Apple's success too late. I think this is perfectly natural and fair and we still are early birds ourselves even today. You cannot create a system that is 100% fair, and this is the fairest way of wealth distribution we can have imo. Without the very early birds, we couldn't have reached today's price. What if nobody ever really had an interest in Bitcoin? Why wouldn't the earlier ones deserve more money since they're part of the ones who made Bitcoin what it is today?

About those people repeatedly talking about global adoption - the idea itself isn't bad at all, but you have to remember that people will always care about their own wallets first before the rest. These guys will promote and advertise whatever thing they get into, hoping for their message to go across the world and somehow magically make their investment pump. Humans are greedy, and you can't change that.
450  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Will there be more scams without centralized financial institutions? on: June 05, 2021, 10:59:48 AM
No. Scams always exist, it's the users' education that is to blame. There are more than enough articles and threads around the internet talking about scam avoidance. It's the user's fault for trusting the wrong people... this is my opinion. Banks will tell you exactly what the users here would: use escrow, never trust strangers and stay away from things that seem too good to be true! The only thing centralized institutions help with is transaction reversion, but this can be used for censoring and they have the ability to seize your funds as well. So no thanks, I don't need centralization.
451  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gamers Can Now More Easily Cash Out Bitcoin on: June 04, 2021, 11:39:14 AM
I think BitSkins already had a very clear and simple process of withdrawing money. And then, a lot of people will probably give up personal info for such partnerships and never actually cash out. I mean, it usually takes a very long while to accumulate enough money from a game server to withdraw even without BTC, and now add mining fees to that..

So it isn't really very beneficial to us imo. Good for the gamers who really want to use this kind of service, but it'll be much more users sending out personal info than there'll be withdrawals for it to be worth it overall..
452  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin can't break out anymore. it's done. on: June 04, 2021, 09:17:34 AM
Will Elon live forever? No. Will his power stay in the top forever? No! Therefore, your argument is wrong. Even if Elon continued to do what he's currently doing, this won't last forever. The McAfee era lasted a few months and then his influence died out almost instantly. It's a matter of time before people start realizing Musk doesn't matter that much and move on to another Bitcoin pump.
453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: JP Morgan Likens "BITCOIN to FOOLS-GOLD" Say's $20k todays value on: June 03, 2021, 07:55:19 PM
Saying it should be $20k is probably a more positive statement - if it crashes most of us are now never at a loss even if it gets that low.
Oh man, imagine what saying "20k will be the low in 2021" would've sounded like back in 2013-2015. People don't realize how HIGH this supposed "low" is. Bitcoin going 50% lower from today's price still means that literally everyone who"s bought BTC in between its inception and late 2017 and is still hodling will not lose a single buck.
454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Statue in Hungary on: June 03, 2021, 04:14:38 PM
This is very interesting and symbolic. The statue of nobody, as we know nothing much about him. Now this remains a piece of history!
455  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcoin's institutional hype is over? Adoption Slowing Down? on: June 02, 2021, 08:21:23 PM
Why are we going back and forth! Few weeks back all you could read in here is how btc out performing gold and how btc is going to replace gold,  now suddenly institutional funds are flowing out of btc to enter gold, I don't expect to read this so soon, why are institutions removing money from btc to gold! Btc still profitable even in bear market.
Because:
1. They make a sh*t ton of money from this kind of speculation
2. They don't like Bitcoin for real, at least they don't want it in our hands
3. Their wet dream is to turn Bitcoin into the most massive surveillance-focused economy in the world, artificially, through regular Joes' usage of BTC in combination with blockchain analysis

People need to realise they're our enemies, not our friends. They want to make money off us. They don't want to help us make money..
456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Swap WBTC to BTC make BTC anonymous? on: June 02, 2021, 03:28:40 PM
These things happen through smart contracts, so it's highly likely that there is enough information in the contract details for someone to de-anonymize your coins.

Best option is either ChipMixer or CoinJoin through Wasabi. WBTC to BTC is not the way to go.
457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would you do if you were new to Bitcoin and given £10 Bitcoin For Free on: June 02, 2021, 07:41:57 AM
If I were to have the mind I had 8 years ago, I would've most likely spent it. Worst case, I would've lost it somehow.

Considering my today's mind, I'd hodl the hell out of it and continue to accumulate more! Those £10 will be valuable over the long term. It's all about a matter of time before today's £10 worth of BTC will become a Romanian minimum monthly wage, lol.
458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does anyone else find Michael Saylor a bit over-the-top? on: June 02, 2021, 05:45:04 AM
There are many Bitcoin maximalists out there, he's definitely not the only one and I don't think it's wrong to like just Bitcoin and no other cryptocurrency. I find it the same as those guys whk only keep their fiat in a specific "safer" currency and only believe in that one's power. Not much of a difference.

It's normal for someone to only like BTC specifically due to the fact that it is the only cryptocurrency with a lot of volume and liquidity, providing tbe most widespread and the most secure blockchain to exist out there in the wild. Maximalism is a thing, and there's definitely nothing wrong in that.
459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Dystopian Future on: June 01, 2021, 06:45:40 PM
I think that you are exaggerating a little bit. Grin
The human civilization is moving from ages of liberty to ages of more government control, and from ages of government control back to a time when liberty dominates.
We're only moving from more to less control, but liberty never dominated although we like to lie about it. Our today's regime was supposed to give us freedom, and it does. Only a superficial one. The more digitalized we go, the more controlled our lives will be.. and this process started a very long time ago, at least a few decades!

I've never felt free. The larger percentage of the population lives under wage slavery and almost everything we do today is under surveillance. The fact that a lot of people prefer to ignore their surroundings and call this "freedom" is in no way the real, legit definition of "liberty". Nowadays, seeking liberty means suspicion and further control/surveillance..
460  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Protect your valuable personal information by avoiding tempting offers! on: June 01, 2021, 01:37:37 PM
It's not for nothing, you are becoming millionaire for giving your personal info, who wouldn't want that!?
Yeah, and then the credit card number plus the CCV so they can transfer your money to the card Tongue
