4401  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it’s important to avoid telling everyone about your crypto holdings on: June 11, 2020, 06:48:24 PM
I agree, when it comes to cryptocurrencies we act as our own bank, and we should take extra precautions when divulging information about our crypto investments, especially if you carry your assets around on your mobile phone, this increases the risk of getting robbed.
A thief is less likely to force you to make a transfer from your bank as this would give away their identity, but a Blockchain transaction can be mixed and the trace would be lost.

Once information is revealed, we can’t make it unhappen including all (bad) consequences.
Even if one deletes their account on a website after submitting personal information, that information is not deleted. The best security is to keep your data private.
4402  Other / Meta / Re: Should mods deal with the 1 line posters just here to build their counts. on: June 11, 2020, 12:24:59 PM
Is there really a benefit of increasing their post count, the users would be stuck as newbies except they earn a merit, and the merit system would legitimately keep then from ranking up. In the long run without any incentive the user should tire out eventually, when they realize they can't rank up.

what are merits anyway? to boost my profile?
The account registered last December, and the user was asking this month about merits, they probably have not gone through the forum rules or guidelines. The newbie welcome message would be useful to those member who do not know how to properly navigate the forum.

4405  Other / Meta / Re: Issue with flag system (Please FIX) on: June 10, 2020, 09:05:26 PM
As mentioned one should not create a flag linking to a post of the alleged scammer as proof, It can be edited and the evidence lost.
You should create a new topic containing the reason(s) for the flag, (you can archive the post from the alleged scammer and include it) other members would go through the evidence and choose to support or oppose the flag.
I would assume that not being able to use a self-moderated topic will not be a bug, but to prevent users censoring any arguments against them. One would not be able to defend themselves in a self-moderated thread as their replies can be deleted by the OP, and other users cannot reach an unbiased conclusion.

Local rules should not apply in cases of scam accusation.

I'm sure there are many abusing this now and it means that I am unable to flag the user's topic for scamming users.
Create a new thread, archive the self-moderated topic of the user and include it as evidence, link that to your flag, if you get more support than opposition, the warning banner would be displayed above the user's post, self-moderated or not.
4406  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread on: June 10, 2020, 12:14:18 PM
Yesterday I had read somewhere here in Italy that Madrid is asking about to be the city of the final for this Champions League.
According to as.com, Lisbon has overtaken other cities to host the finals, including Madrid and Moscow, although the contracts are yet to be signed so nothing is official as of now.
Apparently, Madrid was dropped due to current renovations to the Bernebau and the Metropolitan not meeting the requirements of UEFA.

I think arranging the date and values in a table would make for an easier read, it's probably not possible on the site, but as SFR10 pointed out, a space or two between the date and values would be more visible.
4408  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why don't we literally send Bitcoin to the moon? on: June 10, 2020, 05:59:08 AM
These are some fictitious ideas I have in mind though could be done soon with the slightest possibility, what can you say?

Bitcoin is a decentralized network and there is no marketing agency for it, if any such ads is to be run, it would have to be done by private individuals.
The to the moon concept is pretty cool, but true adoption would be achieved when people can make day to day payments using Bitcoin, and more merchants begin to accept it as a currency. Introducing it in your local stores and suggesting it as a payment method would go a long way, if the cost of launching an ad to the moon was invested in Bitcoin ATMs globally, people would be able to acquire bitcoins more easily.
An ad would create hype around it, buy would not do much to facilitate adoption imo.
4409  Other / Meta / Re: Bumped by who on: June 09, 2020, 04:26:25 PM
I believe there will still be some people who offer fake bump, they own a lot of high ranked alt long ago.
Bump score is typically calculated based on most recent activity and merit (the last 365 days)
Your base bump power is the smaller of these two values:
 - The activity you would have if you'd signed up 1 year ago.
 - The merit you've earned in the last year.

So owning a high ranked alt which ranked up long ago, maybe due to airdropped merit, would not count much, except the account has been actively contributing to the forum over the past year.
Also bump score diminshes during a month. A thread bumping service would be difficult to operate, particularly as there's no guarantee that a bump would actually bump a thread.
4410  Economy / Economics / Re: ETC Group to launch bitcoin ETP on Deutsche Boerse on: June 09, 2020, 03:00:50 PM
we've already had so much disappointment in the past with all the ETF hype, when people expected it to launch the price to the moon.
I don't expect an immediate increase in price due, most of the purchases happen off exchanges and those that do happen on exchanges are done through an order routing process so there is no impact on the market price.
It's difficult to ascertain what increases the price long term, but greater liquidity and adoption would be a welcome development.
4411  Economy / Economics / Re: ETC Group to launch bitcoin ETP on Deutsche Boerse on: June 09, 2020, 12:22:22 PM
Major loser: Grayscale, who won't be anymore able to sell their shares at an inflated premium to institutional desperate to get long Bitcoin.
In addition to not being able to market their shares, existing investors who hold them would be looking to sell them off at a lower premium to avoid being bad holders. This action could further drive the premium down causing more losses.
4412  Economy / Economics / Re: ETC Group to launch bitcoin ETP on Deutsche Boerse on: June 09, 2020, 11:24:07 AM
It is a welcome news. The impact of ETF on the cryptocurrency market would be huge. The U.S Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been delaying it's approval, but other countries have been adopting cryptocurrency and putting policies in place to support it's growth.

One interesting aspect is the possibility to redeem the physical bitcoin:
This could encourage their investors to learn about the technical aspects of holding and securing bitcoins, if there is an opportunity to redeem them

I just tried to access the updated link - (https://www.hanetf.com/article/409/worlds-first-centrally-cleared-bitcoin-exchange-traded-product-to-list-on-deutsche-brse) but couldn't, is it only accessible to specific regions?
4413  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread on: June 09, 2020, 10:17:34 AM
Next Champions League without the citizens is gonna be weird.
The UCL is a big competition with all the best clubs from the too leagues, I think being a City staff or fan without the club being in the competition would be weird and could lead to a lot of exits. Guardiola has played in every UCL competition since he began coaching and even though he has expressed his desire to honour his contract till 2021, he may not be staying long after then.
If the ban is upheld it would take the club a couple of years to recover.
4414  Other / Serious discussion / Re: The Fat Emperor talks to a leading virologist about herd immunity on: June 09, 2020, 09:35:42 AM
I couldn't watch the whole video at a go, I'll probably watch more bits of it over the it couple of days, till it's complete.

Herd immunity has been a prevalent discussion since the onset of the pandemic caused by the SARS CoV-2 virus. These discussions are mostly tentative, as lot is known about the virus but yet, a lot is yet to be known.
I was always of the impression that herd immunity would mean simply allowing everyone to contract the virus, which could take years, despite the rate of it's spread and lead to loss of lives. But if one factors in the other aspects of immunity (discussed in the early minutes of the video), where we have developed immunity and intrinsic ones. It could happen quicker with lower mortality rate.

The body has cells that defends it against a variety of threats such as bacteria (neutrophils), parasite (eosinophilis) etc. There are also cells that fight against viruses, and they would have a patent for a broad strain of viruses and related ones. So if the body is exposed to one which it can activate antibodies for, the virus is blocked, and the spread is slowed.
I should note that this is also dependent on other variables, like; age, existing health condition, living standard, etc.

The higher the percentage of people with some kind of protection, the slower the spread, so those without immunity would also be more protected, while we await a vaccine.
4415  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Currency Value Falls During Recession? on: June 08, 2020, 10:01:54 PM
A recession could be a successive decline in GDP growth per capita; this is where the economy drops over more than one period (usually quarterly). It could also be due to negative sentiments due to vincibility of one or more economic factors and indicators.

If there is a drop in GDP growth, market confidence is low and macroeconomics gets hit hard, along with SMEs, the government would likely initiate fiscal policies that would be aimed at increasing spending to boost the economy, if this inflow of cash is not balanced, businesses still failing and loans getting defaulted, there would likely be a drop in the value of the currency.

However during a recession there can equally be a crash in value of assets such as housing and real estate, this drop in asst value has occurred over a couple or global recessions (1991/2009). A drop in asset value would mean a rise in currency value or better put; a fall in inflation rate.
So, Currency value doesn't always fall during a recession.

You should also note that it is a process, when economic recession hits policies are initiated to support the economy, we now get to the recovery stage, and then the expansion stage, each stage could last for carrying periods of time, and a rise or fall in the currency can occur at any of the stages. During the expansion stage confidence is usually high and the market is more balanced.

Am I the one that encounter it first? Is this the first thread about this? Coz if that so, then I'll feel very special.
No, there have been several threads on leet made in the forum in the past. Any user on 1337 post count would get the figure replaced by leet.

Used the forum search for the keyword 'leet' and these were some of the results on the first page;
What does leet mean in my profile
I've got that leet post count

4417  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ID for buying bitcoin on: June 08, 2020, 02:55:26 PM
It seems that exchanges like Coinbase are where a beginner like me would buy a small amount to start with
A heads up, coinbase has been under fire recently as it was discovered they were attempting to sell blockchain analytics to federal agencies. Link
Such data can be used to monitor, track and regulate bitcoin holders on the site along with their assets.
Read the terms and conditions of any website you wish to exchange with, as well as the user [privacy] policy information.

Bearing all that in mind could someone tell me about the current ID requirements for buying bitcoin on exchanges?
It's dependent on your means of payment, amount to be purchased and also varies on different sites. Legality of cryptocurrency in your region is also a factor.
4418  Other / Meta / Re: Ban locked threads in Alternate cryptocurrencies > Announcements (Altcoins) on: June 08, 2020, 11:12:45 AM
If a DT member gives a negative to the user there is a banner that would appear for users with less than 7 days login time
AFAIK, this only applies to flags and not negative feedback, any user can create a flag, and if they have more support than opposition, it would appear at the top of threads made by the suspected account.
Negative feedback is visible on the users trust rating.
4419  Other / Meta / Re: Ban locked threads in Alternate cryptocurrencies > Announcements (Altcoins) on: June 08, 2020, 08:29:35 AM
...
A rank barrier would mean scam websites would pay higher for a member+ ranked member to create their thread, this would reduce the problem, buy will not solve it. Also threads can be locked even if they're not self-moderated.
Newbie restrictions is also not something favoured by the admins

I would suggest a banner, such as the trust flag, which would appear above a post should users suspect it was made with malicious intent. This could work like a negative bump, if enough users flag a post, in addition to it dropping down the pages, it also carries a warning, such as; "This thread is suspected to contain suspicious links, apply caution while interacting with it"
4420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin, will this play a role in logistics industry? on: June 08, 2020, 06:39:41 AM
This board is for speculation on the price of Bitcoin, so you should move your topic. The option is at the bottom left corner of this thread. Bitcoin discussion is more appropriate.

Bitcoin has been described in different ways, but I can't see it being used in the logistics industry. As mentioned above the blockchain or block ledger technology, could be utilized in the sector in a variety of ways.
I came across one or two ICOs which were aimed at using the blockchain to facilitate the shipment of containers. All documentation were to be done using it. Those projects are yet to take off as yet.
