Shit man, what a bummer.

Sharex?? never heard of them. I think the lesson is to only use exchanges with a reputation and a good trading history.. Bitstamp, Kraken
And don't store much on them.

There was a similar story of some dodgy exchange in Singapore this week too..

Damnit Oda... this is exactly what i was planning on doing .. this time.
I just held onto everything last time. And just when i think I've learned 'how it works' you guys come along and tell me it's going to be different this time.

Boo Hoo.. Sad

CEO of Ebay says : " at PayPal, we’re going to have to integrate digital currencies into our wallet"

I think that's a pretty bullish comment.

and then have e-bay coin or something.. would be great if it was bitcoin.. and honestly speaking.. do you see a better alternative out there??

Why would ebay want to launch a new P2P blockchain ? I don't see how it could make sense for them.

Nah, you're right, neither do i! haha.. i was being cynical i guess.
They would need to use and already established crypto.. it doesn't imply that this will 100% be bitcoin, but it is THE most already established one out there.

when you guys cash out big bucks.. do ye pay the capital gains or what? im wonderin how to get around that lol

in the u.s., hold everything in a roth vehicle.  requires foresight.

Looks like he's in the UK (hello...)
As far as I can tell, you're taxed on income at the exchange rate at the time of earning.
Then if your bitcoins appreciate and you cash out, you are liable for capital gains on them, minus the £10k allowance of course.
There may will of course be ways around this for the tax savvy. I just haven't needed to find out yet.

ireland actually.. its really a grey area here.. no official statement has been released as to how to handle the tax on cryptos.. and also.. it they state bitcoin and not cryptocurrencies.. would that not be a loop hole so i can sach out to euro from another crypto?

I don't see why not. And don't worry, the Irish will follow whatever happens in Britain, eventually. Well that is the normal order of things, and I say that as an Irishman myself. Unsless an EU directive is released that changes that. Anyway.. you'd be right about the loophole, but i don't think they'll be THAT stupid (but it's Ireland, so ya never know!) i think eventually they'll come up with a bill copying Britain and call it virtual currency or cryptocurrency act or something. Until then, keep it small, and no one will know.
Unless you are self employed and do your own taxes, in which case you'd be liable for an audit if the DID suspect anything.
Otherwise, keep it small, and fly under the rada and they will never know.

Thanks. Then it is broadly in line with reality and that's always a plus!

25% of trade is fine. I feared (briefly) that it would be a lot higher than that. So, this is a good thing.

467  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: June 05, 2014, 01:57:41 PM

I'd rather build my own Fort Knox instead of trusting the owners of the real Knox. I don't want to get knox'd

Then it'll be time to start a gold-storage and trading company.. you could call it..

Fort Gox

<rimshot>

Or just Ft.Gox for short..

And to be clear...The NSF is not the only solution nor is it perfect, but it is a step forward

Yes, this is fair enough and it is quite a decent step forward. You are to be commended on it in my opinion.

Anyway, this may be of interest to some people.

The NSF figures above (p.94) amount to 4.19013446 btc over roughly 18 hours (~18:30 - ~12:22 - June 4th-5th)

So ~4.2 btc over roughly 18 hours.

This is not bad!!!

Extrapolated out over 24 hours - we get a figure around 5.6btc

Actual 24Hr trade volume on Mintpal (currently at) 22.486 (22.5) then 5.6 / .225 = 24.8%

The NSF accounted for roughly 25% of trade volume on mintpal.

That is a figure which actually gives me some confidence, as I had feared it may be actually a lot higher than that. This is encouraging.

Hi...we have been heavily supporting NAUT over the last 24 hrs here are the trades from Mintpal...there are more, but you get the idea:

...

What I'm a bit concerned about BRain.. (and everyone else!) is that apart from the NSF trades published above.. who else is buying / selling /trading ??

If you removed these trades from the picture how does it look like? In volume terms?

You said that this is not all of them? So I can only roughly estimate the volume without NSF.. but I'll give it a go and come back.

A last thing, i did not have answer :
- Who developped the coin ? Not BK. is he reading ours posts ?
- Are you alone on this BK ? Do you need a team ?

Who is developing POS for this coin and what coins have they worked on before?

I think the Dev's who helped BK out were called DigiByte - they developed digishield and have their own coin called Digibyte.

That is about as much as i know about them!
471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - Digishield on: June 05, 2014, 11:03:06 AM
No one's saying to ignore other possible benefits and existing proven functionalities, but new projects, tools, and ideas to help fuel the community. We are brainstorming, nothing more.

yes ofc, i try to share new idea

- I guess it would be a good idea to find support in "well-known figures" in altcoin world : convince influcial people, listened by community, on twitter, FB, here, etc...
I thought about coindesk, it would be a huge promotion.

- I think its too late, but some coins tries or tried to innovate in mining : Multipool support (would be great to create a buy pressure), more or less energy efficient, mining with intrasic value (curecoin, primecoin), multiple mining algorithm (Myriad) etc... Let's try to find something which had never been done (dont have idea right now Cheesy)

- Intensive communication : Even if its crazy, people in crypto world need news nearly everyday, they need to know how hard works the coin team, why news features taking so long, etc... they need to be reassured everytime about their money, or their potential investment.

When i think about darkcoin, during weeks it was worthless, even with anonymity promise, until something concrete was released. When i think about Naut, i see investors interested in NSF idea, but not convinced because of the price fall, nothing concrete. With this logic, i guess demonstrate NSF utility/reality, would be the best idea, but it doesnt seem realistic without more capitalisation, right ?
So... i dont know, i think its the main problem right now

I'm a bit worry, we hitted 100k sat, with more than 1k btc in 24h, now 8800 sat..., no buy pressure, no one seem interested, hope this is the bottom.

I think you would be right about Coindesk.. at least it would be a step!

Mining and how all of that works?? I don't really know too much about. I did setup my PC to mine Naut.. and did! But i didn't actually get any Naut for doing it. Anyway, the point is, i'm not the one with experience with the whole mining side of things.

Agree on the communication thing. Perhaps regular clear communication/updates would help arrest the negative price slide? I think people in this community need to hear about things, minimum every 2-3 days.

Here's the coinbase article about the blackcoin card.

http://www.coindesk.com/things-alt-ponzi-schemes-blackcoin-usbs-time-warp-attack/

I wonder how much something like that would cost to develop.

Its just a USB with a logo printed on it, you can buy them on ebay/amazon for rather cheap. The person (IconicExpert) who was selling them for BC was making a good profit off of them by marking them up... Some would even go so far as to say he was ripping people off.

Also,

Whoever mentioned the pedometer mining earlier:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=483515.msg7138867#msg7138867

Guess its not so crazy an idea afterall?

I think the card look pretty slick though. Cryobit also make some nice cold storage cards but they're expensive.

Here's their blackcoin card. http://www.blackcoin.co/statement/cryobit-makers-of-indestructiblefireproof-cold-storage-cardscoins-partners-with-blackcoin-for-premium-production-cards/

I think something like this looks pretty cool. Good work!

Is this kind of tools are really a priority ?
I guess its better than nothing, sort of thing, but i doubt its the kind of things which would attract people to invest in Naut...I may be wrong...

As Naut want to play in big league, did u think about POT from Fluttercoin ?
It seems to be an addiontional security feature..

Any news of POS ?

If we try to analyze what worked these past months in altcoin world, what can we see ?
Innovation attracted money, Darkcoin and clones exploded because these coins offered something new, something which was not possible with other coins, anonymous transaction.
In its time, Litecoin, because of scrypt, was innovative, faster & co.
In its time, Bitcoin was innovative, first crypto money.

Naut seems to be innovative to me, because of NSF, but for now people doesnt seem interested...
I guess it necessary to boost intrasic value with innovation..

I agree, i don't find this kind of thing necessary at all, and to be honest, the whole wearable tech segment is considered as a bit of a joke by many in tech.
But again, whatever floats your boat.
I hope Brian is working hard behind the scenes to bring us something, related to either sponsorship, PoW or I don't know.. anything!

But seriously, I don't see much of an (official) future for the annon coins, as that is exactly the thing TPTB don't want. Eventually IMO it will becom clear that they are not the place to store value.
I really hope Nautilus can grow as originally envisioned. We may see a transfer of wealth into Naut once the buzz about other coins dies down a bit.

Any paperwallet support?  Vanitygen settings?

I just posted an answer over on reddit about this.. bsically the answer is yes. If you're familiar with using Vanitygen, you should understand what i've written below.
The number vanitygen uses, (as far as my test showed was: 53)

"I think I've just found out.. if you head on over to the wiki for Vanitygen it tells you..
"Generally, to find out the address format of a given crypto-coin (i.e. the number after the -X option of vanitygen) one can use this service:
http://darkgamex.ch:2751/q/decode_address/<Address> Example: Take any Litecoin address, e.g. "LNipKabgGoTPnzhxsyFwTZdjVSXybjWucp", and submit this URL:
http://darkgamex.ch:2751/q/decode_address/LNipKabgGoTPnzhxsyFwTZdjVSXybjWucp The browser output will be:
30:265dcf8616a9723d3b4ba35c246b041e20013597"

I then did this with a Nautilus address: Nfzzug9r1K4p3BNgN9UaioWbAcXXyewoox
And got the reply in browser - 35:dc560898059dc7be7903d8f4a54408fa1ace92c4
So the key piece of information here is 35

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Vanitygen

The 35 is Nautcoin's address format in hex (!), i.e. 35 (hex) = 53 (decimal) [because 3x16 + 5x1 = 53], i.e. use -X 53 in vanitygen to generate Nautcoin addresses.
Hope that helps!"

EDIT* Corrected a couple of obvious errors.
475  Economy / Exchanges / Re: www.BITSTAMP.net Bitcoin exchange site for USD/BTC on: June 04, 2014, 12:25:06 PM
OK, thanks for that.. I've used them myself over the last year (I'm based in Austria) without any problems. Largest i put through was under €2500..
Also I withdrew around €2000 last christmas without any questions.
I still think it's a bit invasive asking so many questions, especially as our governments don't require it like the US.
476  Economy / Exchanges / Re: www.BITSTAMP.net Bitcoin exchange site for USD/BTC on: June 04, 2014, 11:54:55 AM
I received the following message after depositing some money through a SEPA transfer:

Dear XXXXX,

we received your deposit transfer. However, as it meets some of our volume and frequency thresholds, we kindly ask you to please help us better understand the nature of your relationship with Bitstamp.

In order to do so, we are starting this additional KYC (know your customer) procedure which we must successfully complete before we can proceed with the processing of your transfer.

We kindly ask you to please send us an image of additional identification document (drivers license or national ID) and answer the following KYC questionnaire:

1. How did you learn about Bitcoin?
2. What is the purpose of your trading on Bitstamp? Please describe in as much detail as possible how you intend to use your trading account.
3. Which banks do you intend to use? Please provide the complete addresses and SWIFT codes.
4. Estimated amount that you would be depositing/withdrawing to/from your Bitstamp account per month (in USD and BTC)?
5. What type of trading will you conduct? Buying/selling/both? Estimated trade volume per month?
6. What are your future plans and activities planned on our exchange?

If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to ask.

Best regards,

and as I find this completely inappropriate I have asked Bitstamp to refund my money. I hope this will be done promptly and without further hassles.

Are you in the US? Also, if you wouldn't mind too much, how much did you try to deposit?

Don't worry.. it's the Daily Fail.. the only people who take this 'news'paper seriously, don't have the requisite IQ to use bitcoin.. but they love to be scared on a daily basis with xenophobic stories about bad immigrants stealing all the wealth from their country.
They are about as anti-libertarian as you could get from a newspaper.

All the coins think the same way...being accepted in shops, internetshops, gamblingsites, games...etc. Think different and let the others follow eachother like sheep. They all do the same thing, so wait untill they succeed and then follow the same path. Now spend your energie on something else....Make your coin have value for inverstors....That's what BK should concentrate on, that what he supossed to be good in. Not finding some shops....come on, wake up!

+1 reading about pedo meters, tips and waitresses makes me feel I made the wrong investment.

I can agree with this.. it is disheartening to say the least to read about these things.

These are just community speculative ideas. The community were asked for ideas . do you have one or are you just going to be a fudster?

Have you checked anything I wrote so far today or you just jumped on my last post and decided to call me a fudster?

Haha.. and i thought it was me he was calling a FUD'ster (which, would of been a first!)
Anyway.. not to be too technical, but the above hardly qualifies as FUD as I understand it.

Not to get too off topic.. I understand Brian's pitch.  I get it. He wan't a stable coin that merchantcs can accept and know that the NAUT they received will be worth *at least* what it was worth at ttransaction time. That the coin appreciates in value over time at a certain rate, and that it is ssafe for Wall St. (high net worth investors) to put funds into without the worry some of the other altcoins. i.e. that it is stable.
If this works, then we are in for one hell of a ride.
I'm constantly on the lookout for related news that would boost my investor confidence.. that is why i come here!!
It will come though, i believe.
