Zerocoin will only happen in the form of an altcoin.

In that case, it will be interesting to see what happens with whichever alt adopts the protocols.

Zerocoin does not give you free anonymity.  For that, you also have to add in random time delays.  Otherwise, it is a simple timing analysis away from bitcoin.  And, of course, time is money.

Which, if you wanted to shield the real time deposits/withdrawals from a fund which has a sizeable holding, could be done by shuffling coins between a handful of wallets. Without Zerocoin—much more difficult.

ZeroCoin will come in the one form or the other. Not in the current form though. Satoshi wants to cash out some day and if he's not the US.gov anyway, he will put his massive weight behind some anonymity feature.
For not that extreme cases, off chain transactions will do the trick. I basically see a future where we only put about 2 transactions on the chain *per year* and the rest happens off the chain.

Quote
The "VALUE" portfolio is calculated in a certain way that makes this bot unprofitable against simple buy and hold trading. There is a chance that this bot will be super profitable if the price crashes and you need the USD. Good luck to everyone!

Honestly I did not understand what you were saying. The USD value of the porfolio is simply a sum of the current value BTC+USD.

The point is to grow this value no matter if BTC price is rising or falling long term.  The long term performance is shown here http://btcrobot.com/images/longtermprofit.png

Thank you
I am saying exactly what you said. The software focuses on growing the value biased towards the USD part and not the BTC part.

If you asked most users here, in a well described question, what they really wanted, you might find out they want BTC and not USD.

However, that doesn't mean your most profitable sales come from the BTC holders and may instead come from the USD holders, only you can say that.

How does that matter? It is supposed to grow usd + btc*usd_per_btc. Growing this is the same as growing "this * btc_per_usd". Problem is it fails either way to outperform a buy and hold strategy at least when you take license costs into account.

Very nice. I'm not into pirate content, however I still get screwed by my ISP when I download a Linux ISO or similar. This can be handy. Bookmarked
My shit of an ISP put fibre to the home and installed a router that can't handle when my browser restores 4 tabs at once. Using torrents kills all my internet. Wonder how much nagging it takes to get a better router. I actually thought that the tabs problem was a side effect of them penalizing torrents but a friend now told me that he got his router replaced after 100 calls.

So I accidentally clicked on one of your ADs and that freaked me out!

Could you please make sure no shady phishers place ads on bitmit? I want to feel save when surfing on bitmit.

"Rent this adslot: CoinURL Bitcoin Advertising" was the right most slot. I wondered if you had not been able to rent out this slot aka I did not realize it actually was a third party link and clicked to see how the auction was going, not realizing that it was actually 2 links so I was surprised to see some russian page.

Please make clearer what is third party ad and what is your ad beyond doubt.

Edit: Even worse, the link is a forward. I had hovered the mouse to see if it was a bitmit link and as it was, I clicked. Bad!

466  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FAQ on the payment protocol on: September 25, 2013, 05:54:43 PM
Mike thank you for the explanation.

Unfortunately I don't have time to dig deep enough to answer this for myself:
How does this relate to micro transaciton channels. You know I see micro transaction channels as the next big thing to solve
  • instant payment
  • micro payment
  • privacy
  • transaction fees
  • blockchain size growth
between arbitrary parties via a small set of facilitators (micro transaction gateways or whatever you want to call them).

As a merchant will I be able to send a payment request "update the micro transaction channel xy to grant me 0.5BTC more" or how would that work? Especially if the transaction is a three-hop channel one. A – A's gateway – B's gateway – B.

UPDATE
The next payout date is rescheduled to Wednesday, September 18. Please accept our apologies for this delay due to our limited resources.
The final payout date is set to Monday, September 30. If you have a payout awaiting your approval, please visit your instawallet page to confirm it.
The page will not be available anymore after Monday, September 30.
Just today I talked to a friend who was surprised to hear that instawallet was dysfunctional and she wants to dig out her link asap.
Seriously? Why did you wait nearly 5 months to "talk to a friend" about iw when you have so much time on your hands to stalk me on the forum?

Anyway if your alleged "friend" waited for so long to wonder about his/her iw balance, it must be insignifiant to him/her or else he/she was using iw for long term storage of a signifiant amount, a purpose iw was never intended for.
I am afraid the best things have to come to an end, even this claim process.

Oh Boussac! How can a troll like you end up being responsible for such a mess?

Not sure why it should concern you but I had no idea she even had Bitcoins. With the outstanding amount of bitcoins, I'm eager to see you explain to a judge how this mess was cleaned up in a responsible manner.

How will the claim process work after that date?

469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Satoshi works for... on: September 16, 2013, 05:47:41 PM
Define good or evil.

My guess is, it's the US gov preparing for a post-USD world with them holding some 50% of the worlds money reserve again. For me that's damn evil as I don't see any chance of getting rid of the military industrial complex if that's the case.

If you work in the US "defense" (only one " for brevity) sector, that's damn good as your employer will not run out of wars for the next 100 years. If you are into Bitcoin for the profit, that's damn good as there is no way Bitcoin could be stopped by any Fed or gov or anything. If you think "honest money" can only be better than fiat because the banks can go die finally, no matter the fact that some organisation owns half of all of this oh so honest money, then it's good.

These thoughts make it hard for me to put all my weight behind the white knight Bitcoin saving us all from evil fiat. It's not black or white. The idea is good and Crypto-Money is here to stay but I doubt some provable non-gov version would ever survive that long.

Edit: Ok, I picked "evil plan" just to see what the others picked and I can't believe 70% think that it was a single person! Is this forum run by the NSA with tons of sock puppets?
470  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitmit - Bitcoin shopping mall - Bitcoin market place - Bitcoin auction house on: September 15, 2013, 03:08:05 AM
Smiley oh yeah, ads. I love it. Seriously. Every way of monitizing bitmit allows you to keep fees for users low and this is just great.
471  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anyone use btcrobot.com? on: September 12, 2013, 02:50:00 PM
I would suggest reading from page 1 otherwise we'll go in cycles.

On page one you find also this wonderful post about the potential CC-scam you might be pulling off. Yeah, I don't worry about people getting scammed after reading this whole thread. I worry about those who come here and only read the first and last post, so yes, I want to have some pointers to the risk reminders every now and then, so if I sound repetitive to you, I might not sound so to the new readers.

500.000 … was? Bitcoin? Euro?

Bitcoin ATM already exists.

get MSB license and buy one; place in that store this fall:

I don't know, maybe I need glasses but I see "pre-order now" and not "on stock".

We all know that businesses scare competitors by announcing products just around the corner. BFL anybody?

476  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BitcoinSpinner / Mycelium on: September 06, 2013, 12:38:31 AM
I recommend 24hour VWAP from http://www.bitcoincharts.com/markets/currencies/ . MPEx uses it for options exercises for over a year without problem (except when bitcoincharts is unreachable but that did not happen since April).

Well, which function to use on a certain exchange is an age old discussion. For me the last price at the exchange (which exchange?) is the best indicator for what the price will be in the near future. Just make transparent where the data comes from.
477  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BitcoinSpinner / Mycelium on: September 05, 2013, 04:55:15 PM
I haven't thought this through, but would it make sense to include fiat amounts in the transaction history? I mean the actual historical worth, not the based-on-today's-exchange-rates worth. If you are already storing transaction data locally, adding this field would be trivial. If you are pulling the list from the server based on address(es), it might be too much work.

This. And more currencies please. $$ are of no use where I and 90% of humanity live.

What, our drug money is suddenly not good enough for you???  Angry

We are going to add ARS to the list of supported currencies (Argentinean pesos). That's the one for you as far as I remember gizmo. In general we will add add the currencies we can get official conversion rates for. They may not all come overnight though.

Nope. CLP here. Google should provide quite accurate exchange rates that are good for me. Put them into a non-approved section in the currencies dropdown if you don't feel comfortable having your app tell users that this or that is the exchange rate.
478  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: hillarious mention of bitcoin (e-lemonade) on: September 04, 2013, 10:00:30 PM
My guess is that either they put in the bitcoin for the lulz or because the actually plan to integrate bitcoin soon. On their site and via google I didn't find anything connecting them with bitcoin other than this clip.

http://www.bluesnap.com/ecommerce/support/shopper/why-shoppers-love-BlueSnap does not sound like bitcoin fits their business plan. Shrugging with almost every praise they get there. *shudder*
479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-Qt / bitcoind version 0.8.4 released, fixes critical DoS vulnerability on: September 04, 2013, 07:38:00 PM
could anyone loose coins as a result of the bugs fixed in this release?

No. The whole network could be shut down, but the coins would stay put.
Thanx.

My other question: To have multiple people confirm the quality of a binary, can they compile it separately, getting the same binary? I would love to see as many people that review code to sign the binaries to gain trust. The source being trustful and the binary being signed by just one person is kind of a joke with the money at stake. No offense, Gavin, you are doing a great job and it's maybe a lack of tools or maybe a lack of understanding on my side (which would be a lack of easy and well known tools) but I think this update process needs more trust.
Uhhh.

Our binaries are bit-reproducible, and are always authenticated by multiple parties before being posted: https://github.com/bitcoin/gitian.sigs

We are innovators in this space, your criticism here is really misplaced.

It was not meant as criticism of the dev team. You all do a great job. It can't be as I don't know how to do it better. It is meant to raise awareness of how many people actually blindly install anything that comes as bitcoin.exe. The "criticism" also contains "it's maybe a lack of tools or maybe a lack of understanding on my side". It is a fact that the majority of users install without ever checking a sig. I know it is not trivial to improve this and have no solution. Having some github repo with the sigs helps experts supervise the hosted files and I guess there is a bunch of people supervising all kind of hostings but the doubt – mine and the doubt of others – is a problem when it comes to getting updates spread fast.

It's good to learn that binaries are bit-reproducible. This is essential to trust any binary.

Gnah, updating is always such a pain when money is at risk. The "do you know the ppa guy" question being unanswered is also priceless. For Bitcoin and sensitive apps like that we need some signing mechanism that is easy to use and transparent.
When I use the ppa, I want to see something like "This binary is signed by A, B and C. D is missing. Should we install anyway?" If yes: "Do you generally trust updates containing just A, B and C?"

My other question: To have multiple people confirm the quality of a binary, can they compile it separately, getting the same binary? Extending this to mobile, I earlier mentioned how it is a joke to advertise a wallet as open source when 99.99% of all users use the binary. There needs to be a way to get what you want and to sign stuff.

To understand how many signatures I am thinking of: I want to be able to publicly approve of stuff and I want to be able to configure my friends' PCs to warn about updates if I did not approve of this version publicly.
