1221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blowing up today on Reddit - go upvote!! on: December 13, 2012, 10:15:11 PM
Wow, that thread is great! I think this is my favorite comment:
Quote
Are you kidding me? Is this thread filled with as many BitCoin promoters as it feels like? Pretty much every upvoted comment/thread looks like it was planned out. I don't know why, but something feels really fishy about this whole thing.

I don't know if it is good or bad but rigging a reddit should be quite easy. Consider an issue tracker that treats each reply to one reddit as an issue. The interested community could mark issues as resolved as soon as a sufficiently good answer was given. This way a far smaller group can answer far more posts without all having to read all posts.

A more generic approach would be a browser plugin that allows me to mark reddit users as competent/my team/insiders and the plugin automatically collapses all posts that were already dealt with by a marked users.

pledging 1Ƀ for the BUND Berlin. I would prefer to send it to an anonymous donation address at BUND over using BitPay as theser public anonymous tip jars make the amount public and the organization more transparent but just let me know where to send the coin.

Edit: At this hour the forum is dead. Don't be surprised to get no reply. USA and Europe are sleeping now.

Thanks a lot, giszmo. I will be matching your donation. Nine more to go. Only need 9 people to pledge and they don't even have to donate anything.

I'm not exactly sure what your concern pertaining to what address you want to sent the bitcoin to, but the address in my sig is what's used for Bitcoin 100. I have another option for you, and that's to PM Rassah and he'll provide you an anonymous address to send it to, whereupon he'll keep the transaction uber-private. Perhaps that's what you desire. Whatever you are conformable with will work. I hope I've addressed your address concern.

~Bruno K~

:/ my intent was to honor my pledge towards BUND myself but in a countable way and not via BitPay which hides the donations from the public. Anyway. Sending 1Ƀ to your address now.

I wish your PSP and your bank would consider this worthwhile enough to say a word on it on their sites, too Wink

Got a server error at registration. Now my mail address is "taken" (surprise). Logging in tells me to verify first but I did not get the verification mail.

Epic! I sure would want that as soon as I can use it for all my banking needs (which don't include taking credits).
1231  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bets of Bitcoin - Bitcoin betting on real world events on: December 07, 2012, 05:54:26 AM
I'm considering placing a large bet on an event that won't be settled for several years. My biggest concern is that the website will still be around in several years. Can you please address these two concerns?

#1 Do you plan on operating this site several years from now?

#2 What contingency plans do you have if the state comes down on you? I would feel more confident knowing there is a Tor site already up and verified by you as a backup just in case the clear net site gets closed down. Or, if not that, at least a signed signature so that if you later have to set up a Tor or i2p site that you can verify it is yours by your signed signature.

Once I feel confident that your site will still be up in several years I'll place my bet. Thanks!

lol Smiley I was considering placing a bet on BoB being offline within a month. Actually your concerns are why I never bet on any event longer than 30 days away. I hope this will change though.
1232  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If I find money in my mailbox … on: December 07, 2012, 05:50:10 AM
If someone sent me an unsolicited envelope full of cash I would be more willing to give them gold or silver than bitcoins. I think 1 bitcoin will one day be a lot of money to spend.

My point is that I know how to get Bitcoins but it is an effort. I directly loose 2% in fees, so this would be my minimum fee. I loose time, so my fee is significantly higher but I love when people trust me, so I would do the deal. Getting a MtGox account definitely is a hurdle and I don't mind sharing mine (in the sense of this thread) within limits.

Wasn't RMS posting on this forum somehow? Anyway, I guess he sees bitcoin as cash on the internet. Don't understand what problem you see in the way he put it.

Presumably, that was the Farsi translation of Multibit that the article is referring to:

Thanks to the efforts of techmix and mohammad_rafigh there is now a Farsi translation of MultiBit. They will share the bounty on this translation work (pro rata on number of terms done).

Yes, this. Max contacted me for my Iran-thread here in the forum and I told him about Mohammad. We talked for half an hour. I'm happy he dug deeper and came up with some nice localbitcoins details.

If it's possible to answer, is Ripple still going to support any form of money, or will it have its own numeraire?
I don't think I can answer that question. On another note, what do you think of our logo?

Scherzkeks. The Logo lacks a Ƀ
1238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Ripple a Bitcoin Killer or Complementer? Founder of Mt Gox will launch Ripple on: November 29, 2012, 11:24:39 PM
I see ripple work for small amounts. I wouldn't trust many people with 100$ yet I might want to trade 100Ƀ. Or much more at times. The easier it gets to trade, the smaller the trades may get though.

@Gavin:
If I trust a friend with 20$ and I hear he will not be able to pay back his debt because his terminal cancer treatment is too expensive, I will not complain. I do trust him with this amount cause this is the amount I am willing to loose to him. If he came to me to ask for a much larger sum, I might be willing to give him more after careful consideration but the ripple credit lines are amounts I generally trust to get back but that don't kill me if I don't get them back.
1239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Ripple a Bitcoin Killer or Complementer? Founder of Mt Gox will launch Ripple on: November 29, 2012, 07:40:50 PM
@OP: Ripple's instant confirmations are easy with a "central" server. Ripple is not a competitor of Bitcoin at all but a very very precious addition. Via Ripple you can exchange all currencies, gold, work-hours, bitcoin, etc. by building a web of trust with credit lines between nodes.

If now somebody wants to buy some bitcoins, I could send them to him instantly, stating in ripple that he owes them to me. Much closer peers in the network (aka my friends) now owe me back these bitcoins and I know they will give them to me some day because they again have friends that now owe them bitcoins all the way to the person that now has my bitcoins. If my friends give me some CLP, USD and a beer, I mark the debt as settled at my end.

As my credit lines are not unlimited, we still need to settle debts outside of ripple. Bitcoins will be one way to settle debts.

This getting big would be the greatest thing that could happen to get decentralized exchanges flying!!11

Edit: Ripple has many tricky aspects to tackle and I'm eager to see how they intend to solve them. Critical mass, exchange rates, fees, …
On the other hand it exists since a long time as a concept and I'm sure many smart people discussed it. I'm confident that if they are hiring people, they know what they are doing and wish them all luck.
1240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are the USA scamming the world again? on: November 27, 2012, 11:56:46 PM
For the record, you can search through my posts over the last year and a half or so to see I am 100% certain that someone, perhaps the US government, has been attempting to sabotage and perhaps gain control of Bitcoin.

I don't know how successful they have been.  But it is awfully quiet around here lately.

It could very well go back farther than the time I have been here.  I don't know how far back.  But I would guess not since the beginning, since if the US government had control of Satoshi's Bitcoins, we would not have seen the level of disruption there has been since then.

If destroying bitcoin were on the agenda of the CIA since the last 18 months with more than 10 experts, bitcoin might well be dead by now. 18 months is enough to get a new core programmer positioned and sneak in some backdoor. Yes, bitcoin has very good hackers and some are surely paranoid about this to happen but I doubt that really every capital weakness would get caught. I assume that still too few academics are interested in bitcoins security and especially the security of release candidates. What would we do if some day all connected Satoshi clients were sending their coins to one address?
