Bitcoin has 8 decimal points, thats plenty to go around for plenty of time
i think you meant to say it "ought to be enough for anybody".

this opens up some market share for new players to come in, with better systems
Don't be naive to think that someone will create even more complicated system without enough profit expectation. Just because the way you did it didn't work out in the end doesn't mean that it can't be done. A new approach needs to be taken. exactly. just as some miners have access to practically-free electricity, some of us *wink* have practically-free access to fast high-quality hosting.

^ i disagree.
i think in the future, most bitcoin-related transactions will not occur on the actual blockchain and hence won't be restricted to 8 decimals anyway.
the 8 decimals will only restrict the balancing of accounts between large institutions that actually use real tx's.

The numbers truly are arbitrary. There is no difference between $0.014 becoming $14 and $14 becoming $14000.
yep, similarly, there is no difference (as of this moment) bitcoin becoming $100 USD or $94.70 AUD. one is more psychologically significant for a specific set of people, while another set of people would find $105.58 USD / $100 AUD a more significant milestone.

starbucks -> free wifi -> register

why does it show the coins in the wallet its patronizing.
maybe to lure in more funds from people who haven't realised that withdrawals have ceased
|
|
|
while the initial numbers may have been arbitrarily chosen there was still a major psychological effect (and related media buzz) when it first passed $1 and $10.
if there were to be 21 Billion BTC, i think the historical charts would look a lot different, and we might be at something completely different from $0.014 today.

It will be over 130 years before the block subsidy drops to 0.
even after it has dropped to 0 (when truncated to 8 decimal places), it could subsequently become non-zero again if more than 8 decimal places are used. eg. 0.00000000582076609134674072265625 is currently truncated to 0, but later, someone might earn that amount as a block subsidy.

dell 30" is annoyingly slow to wake up.
move the mouse and the little samsung 24" comes back instantly, then the dell takes forever to decide to show something.
in comparison, samsung 305T (30") was really fast... but they don't make them any more.

no, "BitcoinNordic" is vague
"for buying bitcoins" is explicit
Seriously? Sending money to a company whose sole purpose is to sell Bitcoins is already "proof beyond reasonable doubts" that you're buying bitcoins. very serious. a complete lay person can read "for buying bitcoins" and go "okay this transaction must be for buying bitcoins". on the other hand, anyone seeing "bitcoinnordic" might need to go to google and/or bitcoinnordic's website and find out what they're all about. i for one had never heard of them until this thread.

I've implemented a new policy where we require bank transfers to include the message "For buying Bitcoins".
Smart. one problem with this is that real customers who are actually buying bitcoins, might not want such an explicit record of that fact in their bank statement. They're already sending money to BitcoinNordic account anyway. Unless you're talking about owners of joint accounts who don't want the other owner to know where the money is going to (fishy), for everything else that matters it's already "written" in their statement what they used that money for. no, "BitcoinNordic" is vague "for buying bitcoins" is explicit

Or is there a way to make QR codes work for real? If I have to move 1 MB, could I perhaps create a tagged list of 50 QR codes and play them in a video
yeah, i was going to suggest animated QR codes. but every demo i've seen so far has a really slow frame rate.

If I wrap it in <img> tags in the HTML it just puts up a static chart (frozen in time) at the moment I copied the link.
actually it's frozen at the time the page is loaded, so refreshing the page will update the chart.
