461  Economy / Economics / Re: You should never trust banks on: February 02, 2017, 10:23:38 AM
Well, I guess I would still believe in the bank in my country of residence. Well, it is the only one of the best places to save money in my country. besides, if you're saving in large quantities, there would be a profit-sharing system might be beneficial. Well, I believe the bank, as I believe in bitcoin.

I have a completely different view even though I have my money in a bank account like the most of you. Why? Because there is not an alternative one. And I don't trust them because they can do anything they want with my money without asking me or give me the choice to withdraw if i don't like their decisions. As an example they can impose capital controls like as in Russia, India, Argentina, Iceland and Greece. If these measures are not enough they can steal your savings and they can apply 'haircut'  like as in Cyprus. So, does anyone have a good reason why to trust any bank in the world?
462  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Most of the money on: February 02, 2017, 06:20:48 AM
Personally speaking I am not an everyday gambler but only a temporary one. So some months ago when I started to learn about bitcoin I used a gambling faucet which gives free satoshis every hour. Using these satoshis the user can play dice game or after a period of time if will reach in a amount about 30000 he can withdraw. When the amount was about 6000 I was boring to wait and I started to play. Maybe I was lucky and risky enough but the same day I had more 0.001 btc. Till now this is the biggest amount I have earned.
463  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unconfirmed Transaction for 4 hours. no solution ? on: February 01, 2017, 09:59:49 PM
Hi guys ,

I am quite worried, I did not find a solution for some hours... My Bitcoin transaction has not gone through for 4 hours because I have accidentally paid minimum fee. I can't use VIABTC because my transaction fee is too low.
I use ELECTRUM.
ID TRANSACTION : 493e89ff3f8735958d3a5a6c2aaa96a68e68fd5b59ea03cc263e4cac0be8713a

Will the transaction be confirmed because fee is really too low? If no, What can i do ?

Thanks

Yes the tx fees are very low. You can see graphically more here https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/tx/493e89ff3f8735958d3a5a6c2aaa96a68e68fd5b59ea03cc263e4cac0be8713a/. As far as I know after 72 hours you can spend again the bitcoins because the most miners mempools will drop the unconfirmed transactions which are 72 hours old. You post that you use electrum which has the functionality replace by fee. I haven't use so I can't give you any advice but there is a thread in the forum you could look at this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1742325.0 what ranochigo had written.
464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: money or not? on: February 01, 2017, 08:37:39 PM
Is this world profitable?

Hello I am a student of computer engineering (IT), and I really know little about bitcoin ect.
I wondered if indeed there were any interesting project that was worth the trouble to be improved or developed ..
Obviously I do not have the technical knowledge and the appropriate experience to a solo project, so I hope someone clarify me the ideas and if I can direct to a good project / team!

I would propose to you first to learn some about bitcoin and blockchain technology and why not from a known university like as Princeton and free because is MOOC using Coursera platform. So you can enroll following this https://www.coursera.org/learn/cryptocurrency even though they are in the penultimate week if I'm not mistaken and to do the programming assignments which are implemented using Java. I believe, given that you study IT is one of the best because is a free and online, ways to learn many things about bitcoin. After that, you can research deeper and you will find many things if you are willing to deal with crypto currencies world.
465  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who is winning the Race - Bitcoin or Paypal? on: February 01, 2017, 06:58:36 PM
As an online payment platform, Bitcoin appears to have all the advantages over Paypal, making it hot for the online gambling world too.

Read more: https://bitcoincasinos.reviews/bitcoin-is-winning-the-popularity-race-against-paypal/
People always choose paypal for online payments world wide even they do shopping but if you are wise people and think good about money making they will choose bitcoin its easy way to earn bitcoin from trading and gambling

Certainly as regards the gambling industry the bitcoin as payment medium is preferable than paypal which pursues a very strict policy when someone wants to use it for online gambling activities. Therefore, is logical the owners of online casino, betting, gambling and similar sites are skeptical to use it. However, with regard to purchases from online stores the dominance of paypal is undeniable. The chargeback (buyer friendly) policy which follows in case the seller is fraudster apparently is the winner compared to bitcoin where any payment is irreversible.
466  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Restaurants accepting bitcoin! on: February 01, 2017, 04:37:00 PM
I havent encountered any restaurants in my country that accept bitcoins since it is not regulated by my country as of yet. Other than people in this forum, I dont think anyone even knows about bitcoins much. I try to educate people around me and have tried some dealers to accept bitcoins but in vein.

Yes in my country too, as I know, there is only one restaurant and a cafe which are happy to accept bitcoin and some times these are our (mine and some other friends use cryptocoins) favorite place to go when we are out. I believe that as time passes and bitcoin will be more widely known entrepreneurs will be convinced that it is to their benefit to accept bitcoin as an alternate currency.
467  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Drug free in the Philippines on: February 01, 2017, 04:15:51 PM

--snip--

Legalizing drugs is not the same as promoting them. If you want people to stay away from drugs, then you need to introduce better awareness. Identifying the drug users is one of the most important steps in this. And drug usage has declined in all the countries, where drugs were legalized.

Some people may disagree with me, but I have a different attitude about the legalization of drugs. In countries which have already implemented the decriminalization the results were not encouraging enough. The use of drugs was not an intrusive behavior so the users were increased, which resulted in more deaths. Some Scandinavian countries, had implemented practices to decriminalize the drugs. So the drugs were possible to administer under prescription. After two years and because the results of this effort have increased twice the drug users, these countries were forced to withdraw their programs.

468  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The best way to quit gambling for good on: February 01, 2017, 12:53:42 PM
The passion of gambling (betting, gambling, casino) and the corresponding online ones is very difficult to be treated because it is a very serious form of addiction like drugs. Initially the addicted need to understand it by himself with the help of his family and then altogether to seek a professional help. The real interest of the closed family and relatives environment and the engaging in other activities like as sport, reading, social activities, etc. maybe is the most obvious way to help him to overcome his passion.
469  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-01-31] Federal Reserve Employee Mines Bitcoin Using the Fed’s Server on: February 01, 2017, 11:58:39 AM
If I had not read, but I heard it from someone I would think that is a silly joke. On the other hand I am surprised that an employee of Federal Reserve mines bitcoin like as saying  an employee of coca-cola he drinks pepsi.  Beyond the joke i am really surprised by the ease that an employee, an analyst as it had written in the article, had the credentials to install software in the internet server of Fed. I wonder why the IT department of bank gave him this possibility to deploy any software this analyst wanted. So, I believe that they are applying very lousy computer security measures.
470  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is there truest religion? on: February 01, 2017, 11:15:25 AM
This is a question with so many answers. It depends on personal experiences as well as the country in which everyone from us lives. Also from the education and the culture of every human. Surely, all these years many people and governments have used religion for their own purposes because they easily can affect large mass of a population. On the other hand, until today man failed to give convincing explanations to many questions. So, it is very different any of the world religions and the existence of God.
471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how to explain bitcoin advantage ?? on: February 01, 2017, 09:22:44 AM
The point I see that, at first you must explain your brother why your site is a good place to invest; that is, why you believe that he will have a profit in the future. Now as far as it concerns your site I don't find fascinating the faucet as an idea. You need enough money more than $50 and you need some good reasons so other people will be willing to pay you in order to advertise their products in your site. As far it concerns bitcoin news there are also many of them in English but I don't know how many in your mother language. Imo I believe is better to stick with a bitcoin news site in your mother language.
472  Economy / Economics / Re: Behind the courtains - China vs Bitcoin on: January 31, 2017, 08:12:29 PM
Interesting news, it is exactly as I expected Chinese trading is slowing, we won't see any crazy bull runs (and even harder dumps) from now on.
It will be either total stabilization (at least in bitcoin standards, which is still pretty volatile compared to fiats) or very slow price upward trend.
Unless, of course, something unexpected happens - like another yuan devaluation.

Another yuan devaluation might happen, if China and the USA begin a "trade war".
Trump might decide to reduce the Chinese import and this will have huge impact over the Chinese economy.
When there is a crysis in China, the chinese usually buy lots of bitcoin.

Yes it's really a very good article as OP told. On the other side I am not sure that at this point of time a trade war will benefit US or China. As an example by the end of 2015, Chinese consumers had bought 131 million iPhones. On the other hand total sales to US customers during the same period was only 110 million. Hence, the consequences will be for both countries. In the end, you will not beat no one, while negative consequences there will be for some other countries.
473  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can trading be considered as gambling?? on: January 31, 2017, 06:44:41 PM
As many things where the answer is not clear it depends. The personality of everyone is the main feature here. If all time you are living with risk without to think that from time to time you can lose everything then yes it is like gambling. If you are addicted and you trade every day, any time, anything you see without to do any research, to read, to ask,  regardless of the consequences and you believe only to goddess luck then yes it's like gambling. On the other side if you try to grow your skills and your knowledge, ten times think and one act, you dig deep and you have a good feeling then this is, imo, trading and you probably will be a successful one.

474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Qtum] UTXO based POS Smart Contract Platform - QA Session Feb 1st on Slack on: January 31, 2017, 05:10:23 PM
Qtum Update:  January 28th, 2017

It has been a few days since we gave a status update, so we would like to give an overview of what’s going on behind the scenes.

Recently, we have begun work on a new website.  That should be ready in about 3 weeks, until then, we will continue to use the current one (https://qtum.org).  The section where we list our Angel Backers has been updated, we will reveal more names shortly once we have approval.  We plan to discuss with our Angels why they decided to support our project, and what they expect from our team in the future.

The Qtum Crowd Sale will start on March 1st.  We currently have enough funds to last until the sale ends on April 1st.  The Crowd Sale will be hosted by major Chinese exchanges, which will be announced in February.  There will also be a direct sale that is done on our website.  The concrete information about the Crowd Sale will be announced in our business whitepaper prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers.  The technical whitepaper will come out mid-February.  The draft section that we released a few weeks back was from the last revision of the whitepaper, so that portion will be completely redone for the new version.

On the Press front, we have done a decent job gaining  traction with Blockchain industry sites.  Our focus right now is engaging with the mainstream press.  A large part of this project involves preparing a Blockchain project for real world business applications.  We already have a signed partnership agreement with a company valued at 100 million dollars USD, which we will discuss later.  We are currently in discussions with more companies, who are excited about our “Go Mobile” strategy.  This was actually the portion of our project that convinced a billionaire to back Qtum.

Our development team is currently merging the Proof-of-Stake protocol into Bitcoin Core v0.13, along with some testing of the Account Abstract layer we implemented to allow the EVM to run on a UTXO model.  The screenshot earlier of the mobile wallet is what you can expect to see once we have a working testnet.  Jordan Earls can give a better update on this later, and it’s best to ask him questions directly if you want more details.

Again, if you would like to speak with our team directly, there is always someone on Slack:

https://qtumslack.herokuapp.com/

When Qtum made its announcement on Dec 19 2016 has post that main focus was the social network, telecommunications, finance, and supply chain industries. Recently on Jan 28 2017 qtum announced that focus right now is engaging with the mainstream press. I would like to ask if the interests and the technology behind qtum project has shifted into mainstream press. In additionally perhaps we could get a clue of how that idea could practically work.
475  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you know when to stop? on: January 31, 2017, 04:14:48 PM
As I see it the gambling is so addicting where sometimes I lose the feeling of  time. In this sense, apparently is difficult to know or to persuade myself that is time to stop. And as I read the OP is interested to learn if  I have a daily limit or something else meaning rather the case when I lose but I am pretty sure it is more difficult to stop when you win. If I lose may be I will stop when my payroll is finished but which is the most suitable option to stop when you win? This is my question. Until now I have not find a satisfying answer i.e, a rule to stop when I win.
We have a different attitude in gambling, I can easily stop when I a winning but it is hard for me to stop when I am losing. I guess most of the gamblers have similar attitude like me. This might be our feeling because most of the time we loses and when we feel we are lucky, we want to quit early so we can also experience some winnings.

I am not sure that most players stop when they are winners because I have different experiences when I visit casino. There I have met people who if they win they don't stop because they believe that it was their lucky day and they have not to kick off their luck. But as all we know it is only stupidity, a vast greed and nothing else. On the other side when I lose I always fear that I will lose all of my budget or somebody steals me and so on. Thus, I gradually decrease the bets and finally I stop even I feel bad

477  Economy / Economics / Re: Blockchain adoption by banking sector on: January 31, 2017, 06:11:06 AM
Banks don't like bitcoin but they adore blockchain. According to fortune blockchain will be used by 15% of big banks by 2017 and after four years IBM claims that 66% of banks expected to operate blockchain in commercial production http://fortune.com/2016/09/28/blockchain-banks-2017/. As it is easily understood banks even after a 8 years they found out the potential of blockchain and nowadays they running to simplify transactions, to lower the costs and to offer new banking products in the extended financial ecosystem.
478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what is chronobank ? on: January 31, 2017, 01:50:35 AM
The question is, would this system be more efficient than existing services, in which people are paid in Bitcoin, such as Bitwage? Creating a new cryptocurrency for this purpose is this really necessary?

My guess will be less of the efficiency because too many the people are not familiar with the cryptocurrency.

I don't see something is really behind the project. If about an efficiency and he could have made their own blockchain for controlling their project is become stable every time because they're selling the words available up to 24/7.

This shouldn't be a problem. ChronoBank deserves a chance to proof their worth. I understand that ICO success doesn't really guarantee that The Project will succeed as well. But I have this feeling that Chronobank will succeed. ChronoBank is backed by a host of dedicated developers and growing community support. For the records, Over 3000 BTC has been collected in their ICO.

I am not really sure that Chronobank will eventually succeed and I hesitate to invest in this project even though as you post there are dedicated developers and a growing community support. The main reason is an article recently I read where the writer had a deep concern that there is no way to control the quality of work of an employee so as to alter the price. Furthermore he didn't find if there is a legal cooperation between Chronobank and the Labour-offering company and if there is any issue between company and the holder of the token how this would be solved. I found this article extremely explainable although some details need a deeper background and more reading.
479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin is not supported in some countries? on: January 31, 2017, 01:19:10 AM
Recently in my Country (Nigeria) Our Federal Govt made a move to stop the use of bitcoin by us, The citizens. This move was inspired by the fact that a lot of Ponzi schemes Owners and operators have found Bitcoin features such Easy and fast money transfer as an ideal tool to steal money. Bitcoin is feature-rich and very much ideal for every country's economy but It can also aid fraudsters. I believe That's another reason why Most countries decides against allowing the usage of  bitcoin.

I wasn't aware of Nigeria having actually banned Bitcoin usage? As far as I have been hearing and reading, they published notes that are solely meant as warning to make people aware of the high risk that crypto currencies and connected projects carry with them. The warning came after MMM has stated that it would accept payments in form of Bitcoin. It's just an informative measure that is solely meant as making people aware of ponzis operating in Nigeria, where OneCoin is also one of. I can't find anything pointing towards the Nigerian government having banned the use of Bitcoin.

Yeah, They made a move doesn't necessarily mean They have stopped it already. From my point of view, If Ponzi schemes continues to utilize Bitcoin for their fraud operations, FG will do more than just warning next time.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that there is no effective way for a government to stop the bitcoin. I can understand if a government does not permit the use of ATM crypto machines or does not allow to exist an exchange in order anyone to buy/sell any crypto currencies or to make announcements against the bitcoin usage but if I want to use it to buy things from online stores or for trading and i will never convert it to fiat how can any government can really prevent me to hold bitcoins?
480  Economy / Economics / Re: News From Switzerland on: January 30, 2017, 09:36:57 PM
Personally I am not surprised with the attitude that keeps Switzerland in bitcoin. Just think that there is a small municipality in the town Zug where the residents can pay from July 2016 for public services with bitcoin until the corresponding 200 Swiss francs. https://www.engadget.com/2016/05/08/swiss-town-accepts-bitcoin/. Moreover many growing bitcoin or blockchain start-ups they want to establish their businesses in Switzerland. It is not accidental that an area of 30 kilometers from Zurich to Zug is called crypto valley like as the Silicon Valley in California.
