Nothing so strange when the withdrawals are problematic - no other reason. Why would sell when you can not get money and huge decrease in price is not on radar and why would you deposit when you can buy cheaper on other places.

When / if gox will settle down those withrawal problems, your charts probably will reverse.

Anyway the second graf is cool.

The point isn't why Gox is different, it's why Gox is wrong. Bitcoin price movements on Gox represent what's going on in Gox, not the market.

For example, take a look at these two charts.

Notice how much smoother the Bitstamp chart is. There are fewer fake peaks and valleys.

Bitcoin is always able to do that. But if the law says so, and a transaction is possible to track, then doing it is illegal and should not be done.

Please go an look at the US constitution regarding legal tender.
EVEN the law makers don't care about the constitutional-law.

And now you come and tell us you are an "libertarian".  Huh
You are not.

If you where you would let people decide for them self what is "legal" and what is not.

Thas your opinion, in my mind its a tool for resisting govermant controls (inflation, force ...)

I oppose any Bitcoin2 project because it tries to do more than that. Anything that tries to accomplish too much will end up accomplishing nothing.

You are allways free to use what you want. That is liberty!

I am a law-abiding libertarian. Yes, they exist. I promote libertarianism, vote for libertarian policies, etc. But I do not tarnish libertarians' image by making it seem like they are all criminals.

So, you're one of those idiots who says that something should or should not be done based on the law. So, if the law says it's illegal to fund Wikileaks, then it shouldn't be done. If the law says you must be executed for being gay, then that's obviously okay!

I don't agree with the law. I believe this stuff is morally unacceptable. However, I abide by the law.

Two charts. Make your own decision.

Nagle, why are you always so negative?

I'm realistic.

But Bitcoin isn't realistic; it's both idealistic and futuristic.

First, cool down. You're fessing over what's really a non-issue. Most death threats are unfounded. Let him have some time to cool down, and then maybe you can work it out.

Second, report it to the police. Death threats are often serious crimes, and the police will deal with it. You're better off just ignoring things after that.

Third, don't just ignore the posts about getting more exercise. If you can, do. A more well-toned body has many benefits: higher metabolism, lower heart rates, and some studies even show that muscle mass correlates with happiness. Don't body-build to fight people, but do body-build to improve your health.

And fourth, get a girlfriend. Too many people nowadays wait too long before they do so. Humans are happier when paired with other humans; this has been the case since we evolved. Careers shouldn't take precedence over family. Having a girlfriend also has the benefit of dispelling suspicion in other men.
488  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoins transferred under 5 secs. w/o confirmations! How possible? on: July 27, 2013, 01:11:00 AM
I believe that this is just someone testing this. Eventually, Bitcoin will allow miners to confirm a series of transactions simultaneously if the final transaction pays enough fees for the entire transaction stack.
489  Other / Meta / Re: Something odd on: July 27, 2013, 12:38:22 AM
SMF translates all special characters into HTML entities and all newlines into <br />s before inserting text into the database. This is maybe more efficient, though I probably wouldn't have done it this way.

Are numbers translated too? Because if so, it would seem they are translated back...

Anyways, I guess that's reasonable. Personally, I would have taken a storage hit and stored both a BBCode version in UTF-8 and a cached HTML translation. It would be most efficient, speed-wise (one translation per edit, rather than multiple), and storage is quite cheap (especially for text). IIRC that's what Wikipedia does, and it's a major reason why they can serve so many people so quickly with very few servers.
490  Other / Meta / Re: Something odd on: July 26, 2013, 11:59:33 PM
There's a 65535-byte limit. Characters not in [a-zA-Z ] require ~6 bytes with SMF's encoding, including newlines.

There should be some sort of warning if you trigger this.

This seems absolutely ridiculous. UTF-8 has more characters that can be fit into a byte, and all Unicode characters can be encoded in at most 6 bytes. I assume my post is so large then, because of all the numbers, punctuation, and newlines.

Thank you for inserting my post, though.

Quit patting yourself on the back.

I've never seen so many con men and marks together in the same place.

The Bitcoin world has reproduced in miniature almost every financial scam known, from pump and dump to blind pools to bucket shops to front-running. There are plenty of marks on here who have no clue how to recognize a con game.  It's embarrassing.

I hate to say this, but... con men tend to be more intelligent.
492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoins transferred under 5 secs. w/o confirmations! How possible? on: July 26, 2013, 09:48:39 PM
Hello, new bitcoiners.

Currently, we're discussing how bitcoins can change hands in mere seconds without any confirmations. Too bad you won't see it because this thread has been moved to the Technical Support section of this forum, a place I didn't even knew existed until the penning of this post.

Am I being told that this issue is not even relevant, hence the move?

Maybe it was taken into consideration where the wallet stemmed from, hence the hiding of this important (so I thought) thread.

At the moment, I'm fuckin' beside myself! (not dissing the person who moved the thread)

With all due respect, Phinn, it was moved because it fits better here. The Bitcoin Discussion forum is for things that don't go well elsewhere. In fact, if you look at the average number of replies, Bitcoin Discussion threads are less noticed because of all the clutter. (Average: 16.3 replies in Bitcoin Discussion, for Economics/Speculation it is 31.8).
493  Other / Meta / Re: Why some donators are in default Trust list ? on: July 26, 2013, 09:43:18 PM
The first thing most people should do is remove the Default Trust list and then just add the people they trust. For example. My trust list is based off of only people I've done business with directly. My non-trusting people are folks who owe me and will never repay. I'm also considering putting people in my untrusted list that I can actually prove have defrauded others.

There's an untrusted list?
494  Other / Meta / Something odd on: July 26, 2013, 09:16:53 PM
I was making some expansions to this thread recently. When I saved the post, it was cut off. However, the post is well under the 65535-character limit:

(firefox)
Code:
[17:16:06.713] post.length
[17:16:06.719] 62075

No notice came up; the post was just cut off. The post preview worked as expected.

Why, then, was the post cut off?
495  Economy / Speculation / Re: excuses for the low volume on: July 26, 2013, 08:24:56 PM
Mt. Gox volume isn't reliable. Try comparing total volume. This time last year, no exchange came close to Mt. Gox's volume. Now, Mt. Gox's USD market makes up a paltry 30% of all trades.

Umm... This is one of the creators of Renren (alexa #132). I highly doubt he is the one who needs to provide ID.

Are you sure about that?

Names don't match bruh.

Bolded.

So, if I made a website and claimed to be the co-founder of Facebook, I automatically become the co-founder of Facebook?
How's about some verifiable 3rd party proof?

I received tracking info for all my Batch 3 orders this morning.

At least 48Th is coming online from Avalon Batch 3 in the next 7-14 days. (48Th not counting 4 module versions.)

This will add at least a %20 increase to the current difficulty. Add in 4 module versions and BFL, a possible network increase of %35 in the next 7-14 days. (this is a guess)

err.. that 20% diff increase just happened, now they must be turning them off and shipping. I say well see less than 10% increase next adjustment

I don't think they mine with the chips; I believe they're incompetent rather than malicious. Consequently, they'll be another 20% diff increase. This pattern will continue for a few months.

I think most are missing one important thing: the newbie system.

Other websites take seconds to join. Register, then post. BitcoinTalk is different. The newbie system places a cost on joining. Consequently, people will not join just to flame a certain post they read. People will only join out of genuine interest. After expending the time and effort needed to join, people naturally take the forums more seriously. They then post not out of sudden urge to do so, but out of a genuine desire for constructive discourse.

Many claim the newbie system is too difficult or unnecessary. I believe it is the reason why BitcoinTalk trumps other discussion groups.
