The name of Spectrecoin will probably not change in the foreseeable future. So far there has no striking reason come up why a change would be absolutely necessary. And you should only do a name change in such cases.

Hi rptr!   You are right that price went down like 50% during the past month, but that could have many different reasons ... but nobody can know whether ICO investors are among the people who are selling or not, except the people themselves who are selling.



Now this is a pretty significant claim, because we cannot change the past, and the original number of ICO investors back then will never change in the future. If you claim that the Spectrecoin economy is "completely damaged" by this, that would mean that it will stay damaged for all time, which I doubt. I don't even see it damaged right now, the economy is alive and running! 

So many people, especially people who are new to crypto, are freaking out about the price swings ... just relax. What matters is a project's progress, the price will always swing. The lower the price, the heavier the swings. You cannot predict it or find someone guilty of it... it just happens.

What do you mean? Your question doesn't make much sense to me. What kind of platforms?

The exchange wallet will go offline if they didn't update their wallet in time. They will need to fix that and join the network by installing the update, and maybe resync the chain, which could take some time. Monoxide contacted exchanges and told them to update, maybe he could list the "good" exchanges that updated their wallet here.

Note that this is not needed when you update your wallet before November. In that case, just download the new wallet and start it. Messing around with your data folder is only necessary if a group of nodes (which you are a part of) branches to their own fork after Nov 1st.

Just update now and everything will be fine.

This has been hybrid PoS/PoW since almost a year. However it is unbalanced at this point, so that effectively it has been PoS only for the past 6 months. Next week, the balance fix should be activated so that PoS:PoW is about 50:50 again.

Yes, here is how the market works: It is based on confidence. Confidence depends on a lot of variables, among them:

• The time it has existed
• the quality of the solutions
• being widely known

We are still relatively young (1) and are not widely known yet (3). Regarding (2), the underlying tech is good, but we still have some bugs in the current wallet, and the tech is being improved as well (ring signature system).

(1) will solve itself as time continues.
(2) will be partially fixed with wallet version 1.4, and the next version 2.0 which will maybe come out in January 2018 that brings an improved ring signature system.
(3) is a matter of marketing, which works best when (2) is already fulfilled, so that we get positive publicity instead of negative.

Taking it together, it will still take some time until we see the price going to the next level. What is required is ongoing development and marketing once we have a robust wallet, which should be the case soon with v1.4.

Btw. the Tor+OBFS4 thing is easy to understand, but it's not the greatest accomplishment ever that sets us apart. The real deal is the combination of that with ring signatures.

But if you buy now at 2 sat, and your articles make the coin price rise, you can sell at a higher price and make profit.

I think this notation of counting zeros is greatly confusing ... kk, mm, kkk...  

So, k is thousand, so three zeros, 1,000. kk is thousand-thousand, so ... 6 zeros, 1,000,000. You could just call it 1 million . And kkk means... three thousands, wait, no, three times three zeros, so ... *counts fingers* 1 billion.

Now, m is usually a million for me, e.g. when writing 10M (with a capital M). And you write mm, so ... million-million? 12 Zeros?   1,000,000,000,000? That would be 1000 billion, or 1 Trillion. I doubt that's what you're talking about   (given that the total supply is only 50 billion).

Oh and to make it even more confusing you are not only saying 1 mm, but 10 of them. Some people use constructions like 100kk or so.   So how many zeros is that? LOL.

So I would recommend to just use the names. Thousand, Million, Billion. Use K, M, B for abbreviating it. Then nobody gets confused or has to grab his calculator.

I have never heard of Zencash.  Their website seems to be throwing around with buzzwords a lot, I don't have the time to look into the whitepaper right now. Maybe you could explain what Zencash does, and then I'll tell you what Spectre does differently. 

And what if the price of Bitcoin rises? You should not make yourself depend on other blockchains. We can't reduce the coin supply by a tenfold each time Bitcoin increases by a tenfold. Even if Bitcoin is the base market, it is still unpredictable. I don't see any reason why people wouldn't use the Litecoin market. 

Oh dear.   Note that we were first calling ourselves Spectre, so they just used an already existing name...  Does not seem to be such a smart idea.

The supply has already been decreased from 500 billion. There's a reason for having that many coins, which is having a very small minimum unity that can be used for paying for micro-services, e.g. forwarding a single data packet. (That's my interpretation of it.) I've always been of the opinion that reducing the coin supply to 50 billion was already a mistake (albeit a rather small one.  )

You probably updated libboost-system in the previous step. After updating libraries, you must recompile all programs that are linked against it.

Yep, having compile problems too, but in my case it seems to be a problem with linking leveldb. I'm trying to figure it out.

Btw. your wallet.dat is always stored at the same place, there is no need to import anything.
