501  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Government job or private job? on: October 24, 2023, 06:24:39 PM
Government job is good when you're don't want to learn anything because it's a secure place and the probability you might get kicked is almost zero except you broke the laws.

I'd say that government job is when someone recommends you.
In my town, only people with connections get government jobs. It's especially popular among young people with no experience.

I had a friend whose brother worked for the government and the moment my friend finished his studies he got a job in the same department that his brother had worked.
They will want this because you don't have to know anything or do anything. You're given something that you have to rewrite, print out and put in an envelope and that's your job for the day.
502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The PATRIOT Act comes to cryptocurrency on: October 23, 2023, 07:35:33 PM
I don't use centralized exchanges. Haven't done so for the last 5+ year. Fortunately you can still exchange EUR 1k per transaction with no KYC here. Used to be 10k, now it's 1k, so the noose is tightening, but it's going to be very hard for them to lower this limit, as this would have to come with fiat currency withdrawal limits at ATMs and all that.
Anyway, the system can be "cheated" as the limits aren't per day, but per transaction, so it only makes things annoying, but not impossible to accomplish Wink

As for the US, they're obviously trying to attack bitcoin by making the public think that it's used by terrorists, and since there's a war in Palestine and Palestinians are being labeled as terrorists, it all makes sense. There's always going to be the right side of the conflict. The side that pays more, that can offer more if it wins, and so on.
This is just a proposal and there were many similar proposals in the past that did not get approved, so time will tell how this goes.
503  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I think gambling is inbuilt, kids don't learn it anywhere, they do it! on: October 23, 2023, 07:23:26 PM
I agree with OP in a way. People do gamble with or without it being advertised.
That said, the less gambling there is in the media, the better. At least we won't be responsible for indirectly telling people to gamble.
I have nothing against gambling, but I wouldn't tell my child to go gamble. Allowing ads is like telling someone to do something, because that's how they're constructed.
"Buy our product, eat this, wash clothes with that, drive this, you know you want it!"

Having gambling advertisements everywhere and connected to popular faces or brands or sports legitimizes gambling subconsciously. It makes it socially acceptable.

Isn't it socially acceptable? I haven't seen gambling being attacked, or deemed unacceptable. To be honest, people treat unemployed people worse than they tread employed gamblers, at least where I live.
504  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help this time with a personal situation on: October 20, 2023, 07:13:15 PM
I remember one member who was also from Cuba a few years ago and had similar questions as the OP, and he wrote that the internet in Cuba is very expensive and not available everywhere. According to some information I read, the situation has improved a bit, but I wonder how the OP gets the internet, or whether $2 a day would be enough to cover those costs?

If you do this, you can buy tarjeta Nauta internet, a Nauta Internet scratch card, from numerous shops or even doorways around Cuba.

Many private persons are certified to sell these cards, and they cost 50 CUP (€1,8 or US $1,94) for four hours of browsing online.

There are Etecsa stores in every city and village in Cuba. Etecsa is the governmental telephone and internet provider in Cuba, which has a monopoly on both services on the island. The price of the 1-hour card is €1/CUP 125, and the 5-hour card is €5/CUP 625 for surfing time.

That's interesting (and off-topic) but this probably is the thing that they tell you on many podcasts about bitcoin. That bitcoin's price has a potential many people fail to recognize and that potential lies in countries where internet is hard to access, expensive, or literally inaccessible, unless via a mobile phone, which can be painful to use.

If you're looking for $2 a day, you could try translating texts to spanish, or teaching courses online. Youtube or tiktok videos can get you more than that if you know how to attract viewers. A signature campaign can easily (even for a full member) get you $2 a day. I feel like you could make $2 a day collecting scrap, or sweeping the streets.
Try washing cars, buy a wet vacuum cleaner, or a pressure washer and wash cars. You can easily make some money this way.
505  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cash out or keep playing? on: October 20, 2023, 07:02:52 PM
I've always had that dilemma when gambling, especially in games that allow you some time to think like poker and blackjack.
I had that voice in the back of my mind saying I should stop and take the money. Usually when you're just a little bit ahead, like 2-3% it doesn't appear, but when you're like 50% ahead it gets stronger. If I doubled my money I'd stop playing for sure, but i have a problem with stopping while being ahead 10%. It feels like too low of a profit to even care and then it often turns into a 10% loss Wink
506  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Much do you Value your Privacy in Gambling? on: October 20, 2023, 06:42:26 PM
So, let's assume you luckily won anything as from $70,000 and above with a total bet below $100, and to withdraw this money, or even part of it, the casino requires you to pass all levels of verification in their system, which means that you will have to provide them all your personally information down to the most private of them all, and this casino is relatively new and you are not sure about their reputation.

For that amount of money, I'd go through verification and risk my private data being stolen.
In my country, I can easily change my ID, claiming that I lost it. It costs something like $20 in fees and takes a week to process and I get a new one with a fresh picture and all.
For $70k it would be worth for me to even close my all bank accounts, or rent a flat somewhere to be able to fake a proof of residency.

Anyway, there are options to safeguard your identity if it's a one time only KYC for a lot of money.
I'm against KYC most of the time and I've never done it for low amounts of money, but for more than $70k, I would do it. Too much money to let it go.
507  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you leave gambling if your future wife/husband tells you to do this ? on: October 20, 2023, 06:11:38 PM
I think that we had a similar thread in the past, but I'll answer since these threads are interesting.
Yes, I would do it. I already have a wife, so if she'd ask me to stop gambling, I'd probably do it. There's also a question of why and how she'd ask for it. Each of us are in a different situation. If I was winning a lot of money and had a decent record and she demanded I stop gambling because she want's that, period, I don't think that I would, because it's just dumb. She'd need to give me a valid reason' like her parents will not agree to us getting married if I'm a gambler, or something like that.
508  Other / Politics & Society / Re: One of the Darkest Days of Humanity. (includes Sensitive Image) on: October 19, 2023, 07:44:19 PM
He claim Hamas killed thousands of civilians without any proof, but tells that no hospital is bombed; what a twisted mentality.
Well, what happened a week ago, when Hamas fighters went to Israeli cities? They killed innocent civilians and caused the whole recent upheaval.

Did they (Hamas) really start this war? I'd say the war has been going on for the last 80 years, ever since Rothschild started buying land there for his people to settle.
Once they did, they begun to wage wars with everyone around them. Egypt, Syria, Palestine...

I'd like to remind you that in 1939 Palestinians were already fighting against Zionists

Were these photos staged? Aren't the dead children real?
If they are real. it means the hospital was most likely damaged. The question is if it was an Israeli missile, or one fired by Hamas that failed. They often use homemade missiles that can malfunction, so I wouldn't be surprised.
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Lump sum Vs DCA" for Bitcoin Accumulation on: October 19, 2023, 07:22:48 PM
I'd choose lump sum because I've seen analysis of both of these options and lump sum investors usually do better, especially if you don't have any bitcoin yet.
I'd say that when you're starting with bitcoin and have completely none of it, you should get some.
If you're afraid of not buying at the top, the rule of thumb is to look at the average price. If we're below or at the 200WMA line, it's a safe price to buy. You can also buy above it, but if you buy below the 200, you're not going to feel a lot of pressure while holding, as bitcoin tends to hold near it most of the time.

Anyway, lump sum is usually better, especially when bitcoin gains value, and since bitcoin is mostly up in the long run, you're putting yourself at a disadvantage trying to DCA into an appreciating asset.
510  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Some gambling questions. on: October 19, 2023, 07:05:08 PM
How many percent of signature earnings you gamble away?
My salaries 5%.

Probably 10% a month, but I don't have a sum that I have to spend monthly. It can be more, but it can be less, as I bet mostly on MMA boxing and football.
No interesting events = no betting.

511  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do your parents know about your gambling habit ? on: October 18, 2023, 06:41:21 PM
No, they don't. They're both dead.

My father used to be very strict and scared of gambling. He was also a very religious man, thinking that it's a sin to gamble your money away, just as it is to drink it away.
I would never tell him what I do. It would only end with an argument.

My mother was much better at understanding these things and she wouldn't mind as long as I don't lose too much and go into debt. I wouldn't tell her anyway just to give her less things to worry about.
512  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Key to RFK's New Populism----Root And Branch Reform Of The Fed (part 1) on: October 18, 2023, 06:26:04 PM
Do you really think he could win?
Sure, he used to be the second best option for Democrats after Biden, but I used to think that the only way for him to win would be if Trump lost in court and was convicted and Biden died of old age.

Many bitcoiners, me included, bought into his promises, so I'd at least like to give the man a chance and see if he's telling the truth about being pro crypto, or not. I don't think we'll find out.
513  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin ETF Approval: Fueling Bullish Momentum? on: October 18, 2023, 06:14:39 PM
Many people are underestimating the impact of ETFs on bitcoin, but if you look back at the history of gold, you will see how gold skyrocketed after the gold ETF was approved. I also believe that the impact of an ETF on bitcoin will be huge and very significant on bitcoin price.

If it doesn't have any impact on the market then why is the entire market bullish and paying attention to ETF related news? You can also see that just 1 fake news release in less than 1 hour can make the bitcoin price increase a lot, but what do you think will happen if it is real news?

I think you need to look at this chart to see the real impact of ETFs being approved.

I see something else in your gold chart. Take a look at the years 99-2007. It looks like every previous bitcoin bear market, just placed on an extended time line. There was a bottom, followed by a strong pullback, then another bearish decline that formed a double bottom, so a confirmation of the bottom, followed by a return to the mean that eventually made the price go back to before the crash.

Compare this to bitcoin on the weekly chart. We have our FTX crash bottom, followed by a sharp pullback, this time with no double bottom formation and a return to a stable level of around 30k, which is almost half of the all time high, just like 9k was in 2019.
514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin gift to wife. on: October 17, 2023, 05:35:29 PM
But my wife was able to understand about Bitcoin very easily. I gave him half of the investment as per my word. He is very happy to get Bitcoin.

I'm confused. Is this a gay marriage? Cheesy

Quote
Have any of you managed to teach your wife Bitcoin? Have any of you gifted bitcoin to a wife like me?

My wife knows about my investment and she knows some theory behind bitcoin but she's not using it. I told her how much it's worth and she's afraid to break something.
She has emergency access to my funds but treats it a bit like some of the tools that I have, or the breaker box. When something needs fixing she calls me and doesn't touch electric stuff and my bitcoin wallets.
515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think? Selling all or not on: October 17, 2023, 05:23:54 PM
I'm not going to sell my bitcoin in the bull market, but I'm not going to tell you what to do. We all have our own understanding of bitcoin and our own goals.

My goal is to have bitcoin as a backup money and spend what I earn in fiat money and what I have in the bank.
Over the years I reduced the amount held in fiat money from around 50k EUR to around 3-4k, while maintaining my bitcoin. Unfortunately (or fortunately) i received an inheritance that boosted my fiat reserves, so I can continue reducing fiat holdings for another couple years until I get down to a satisfying amount and let my bitcoin grow.

Some of you will be in a different situation, some might need fiat money right now or next year with no ways of getting it. In such case you might be forced to sell some bitcoin.
516  Economy / Speculation / Re: Recent market manipulation shows the enormous potential to reach the moon! on: October 17, 2023, 05:07:10 PM
You need to realize what happened today does not increase the chances of approval. If anything a rejection is more likely because it demonstrates what types of manipulation can easily happen in the bitcoin markets.

It was a fake tweet and it ended up causing price to break $30K and then head back down again. So it easily could of wiped out many investors with that move. And this is what SEC might use as an example to not approve any spot etfs.

You have to be one dumb SEC member to think that this pump on fake news is something significant or a proof of manipulation.

I'm sure you know what happened to the price of gold when ETF was approved. It's obvious a similar thing will happen to bitcoin and people know it. The SEC knows it, Blackrock knows it, people who hold bitcoin and traders know it and that last group is responsible for the pump. Traders will buy when the approval finally comes and it's not their fault, nor the fault of bitcoin.
The only party responsible for the manipulation is Cointelegraph and they should pay for it.
517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Gold, land which better? on: October 16, 2023, 07:01:05 PM
my father and mother from my family have no knowledge of bitcoin so they keep persuading me to invest in bitcoin.

They don't understand bitcoin so they persuade you to buy it? Did I read it right?
Why? This sounds a bit crazy on their part.

Quote
My parents thought that bitcoins that cannot be seen or touched cannot be an asset.

So they are against bitcoin, but keep telling you to buy it?
Now I'm confused even more Cheesy

Quote
They think that investing in physical assets such as gold, bank deposits, land etc. is more profitable than Bitcoin. But even after I convinced them, they are not ready to invest in Bitcoin. They don't want to believe in virtual currency.

Safer usually means less profitable. For instance, one of the safest investments is to buy foreign currency of a country with strong economy compared to yours, but this will barely allow you to make any money.
518  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you ever feel tired of waiting? on: October 16, 2023, 06:49:43 PM
OP, you need to find a hobby or focus on living.
I felt like you once, when I had not much to do and I'd watch bitcoin videos for hours every day. Then I started to work on my home and go to bed so tired every day that I'd fall asleep in minutes, without even checking the price. It made waiting for another cycle much easier, believe me.

I know that one sig campaign pays up to $1000 per month and I think that is the highest amount that can be earned, but it is not clear to me that you could live like a king with $800 in your country, which is still part of the EU and the Eurozone. The average salary in your country and mine is almost identical, but even a single person would have a hard time living like a king on $800, especially after inflation has raised the cost of living.

For some people who live in poverty, living like a king is very different to what the rest of us might understand by it.
To give you an example, I have a friend who lives with his mother in a small apartment and has a 4 square meter room for himself. For him to live like a king would be to rent out a small apartment for himself, have a fridge full of beer and daily quality food delivery to his door. 1k EUR would be enough to achieve that.
519  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin ETF Approval: Fueling Bullish Momentum? on: October 16, 2023, 06:35:04 PM
I'm not a trader and I don't react to these news and price moves. My bitcoin is safe in my wallet and that's all there is to it.
If you get excited and keep buying every piece of news without verification, you'll end up like these people who bought bitcoin today and got dumped on.

Take it slow people, bitcoin isn't going anywhere. When the ETF finally is approved you'll have a lot of time to enjoy the uptrend.

520  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you play while listening music? on: October 13, 2023, 06:02:11 PM
I don't agree that gambling with music makes it easier for you to blow money away, or that you get more distracted.
I've read some articles about research done in the field and a lot of this depends on the music you listen to and its volume, but working with music on puts more stress on your brain. It doesn't make you more careless, It doesn't make you waste more money. It's just that after 6 hours of working (and gambling falls into that category) and listening to music, you'll be more tired than if you did that in complete silence.

I like to do things with music on, but it's more healthy to do jobs you don't have to think too much with music on. For instance, washing your car, working out with music on is great. Gives you a sense of rhythm and speeds up the work. If you have to write an essay, or read a book, better turn it off.
