Hello I fast browse your thread, but don't find any info how pic (32MX795F512 in demo board. Same chip in production version?) firmware updates are handled?
If your firmware have bugs/improvements how installed boards are updated? Can it done through CAN bus chained board?

Have you released pic sources yet?

PIC 32MX7xx have ethernet. Have future boards ethernet socket? (maybe somebody develop standalone firmware to avoid raspi..?)

When you plan release BOM? BOM and PIC firmware(/source) are needed bare PCB order customers..

BOM, firmware and board designs will be released when project is done and he is in production.
Also, i dont believe it to be interesting to reinvent the wheel. Raspberry Pi is a perfectly cheap solution for running CGminer from out of. It will be much more expensive to have this on each and every board..

Is it really getting hammered?  I didn't see it posted on CNN or anything.

Competition would be my assumption are hitting it.

Right, and they would not know the site? Friends, mothers and family.. can order 1 chip, and still know the site..
523  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: U HAVE ORDERED AVALON CHIPS AND NOT FOUND SOMEONE TO MAKE A COMPLETE UNIT FOR Y on: July 04, 2013, 10:57:07 AM
I have just send him a message that I am willing to visit his office and report to the community. I live nearby.
I got a friendly reply from them. A visit is fine by them, but not very useful at the moment because they outsource the assembly of the machines and don't have received the chips yet they ordered.
They expect the first batch of chips in 2-4 weeks, and their own Avalon clone beginning of August.

So I declined the invite to visit them now, I might take it in a few weeks when more is happening.

And I did suggest them to add an Avalon module only product to their website, there are plenty of Avalon 3-module owners who could add a fourth module!

And made a remark about their pricing Wink

EDIT: My misunderstanding: the first group buy was not theirs.

Correct, they are arranging their own group buy , in US DOLLARS. A plan prepared to fail.. Since they will have to pay in bitcoins, who will take the risk of bitcoin value increase?
524  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: July 04, 2013, 10:54:18 AM
As far as i understood the board works with 10 or 20 chips. Not with any other number. There are 2 groups of 10 chips each. Thats why both boards are nearly the same price i guess. A bitburner x is only a bitburner xx with 1 instead both 10-chip routes enabled.
You know this for a fact?  Yes the chips are logically organised in chains, but initial discussions were quite clear there would be two boards.  Hence why I say, check with the man himself.
Its how the cgminer works i believe. Also, initially he tested the board with only one chip, same thing with klondike k16.

Implemented Temperature monitoring today and tested Overclocking capabilities a bit.
20x 256Mhz = 5.120Ghash/s - 36 Watts 142Mhash/W
20x 320Mhz = 6.400Ghash/s - 50 Watts 128Mhash/W

Serious question to the overclockers: how do you determine your profitability?

i.e. why bother if the efficiency drops off a cliff?  More efficient is better, right?

Thinking about it, I guess you could look at the ROI on the extra output against the power overhead.
By that I mean the first 5.1 Gh/s cost you 36W, the next 1.3 cost you 14W so whilst that is profitable at electricity and difficulty levels then its worth doing.  When its not, don't.

But how much is sensible to invest in cooling to achieve higher rates? Is there a rule of thumb?
You'd need to work out an ROI and set a profit expectation.  Has anyone looked at this?

I see it a bit different. Look at the costs of mining gold. The people who invested tons say 10 years ago, and stuck to their gold until today, are wealthy people today (look at gold increase past 10 years). The ones who mined, and sold it all, made much less.
So sell as little as possible is my strategy, potentially invest in asicminer shares, and increase your rig to get more coins as you increase your hold. That being said, as someone said, the more hashpower i can get, for a slight increase in cost, is irrelivant for me. I intend to stock the coins as much as i can and join upcoming generation chip (avalon 2?, BFL, bitfury) group buys when they come available (to be part of first batches)..
526  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: July 04, 2013, 10:07:12 AM
I ordered chips for a Bitburner X 4 weeks ago.

If it turns out there will not be a 10 chip model anymore I'm screwed.

why not buy some additional chips? They are cheap at the moment and a 20 chip model will be much more efficient and cost- effective.

I've been trying to buy 10 chips from SebastianJu's 5th batch to complete a XX, with no success.

If I order any new chips they will come from the 6th batch which have not been ordered from Avalon yet. It doesn't make sense having 10 chips 'wait around' for another 10 to come from the following batch. I'm better off selling the 10 I've ordered and start again.

All I need is assurance that the 10x model is going ahead as per the first post. I've asked three times now, just need a yes/no!

The chips are chained by 5x5 as i read. So stacking 10 chips on a 20 board should be no problem. (and then you can add later should you want to, batch 6 is ordered the other day).
527  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: July 04, 2013, 10:06:28 AM
Why not stack them according to the design?  The front page shows a schematic.
I still want to 'stack' them in a cube:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=223680.msg2362815#msg2362815
In that cube fans are positioned to ensure good airflow both inside the heatsink tunnel, and over the top of the boards.
It's a Klondike design, but I think it can work here, too.

Noob question: Where do you run the cables through? Wink

I read about a hole in the glass.

I understand, but I hope steamboat honors the original order ranking as he stated previously. Even if most of the orders are from other batches, 20-30 position differences can make a day or two difference and as much as I hate the adage... time is money when dealing with bitcoin.

Of course we just need steamboat to get well at this point. Details are secondary.

I read somewhere that he is assembling hundreds per day.. are you seriously stressing for 20 positions?
529  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: July 02, 2013, 06:09:44 PM
Changed that dammed chip and:

SUCCESS!

But 5GH, must have been a full board then or?
530  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Ann] US based Avalon ASIC chips and assembly: 715 remaining on: July 01, 2013, 08:24:38 PM
I checked the blockchain, it seems that batch #6 has already reached the half way mark, but it has not been ordered. In the past, once half the batch is sold, the order would be placed. It seems that this is not the case with batch #6. Can anyone confirm this?

I know it's none of my business, but have you actually bought into any batches yet?

Or is your main goal in this thread to stir things up?

Well I ordered chips on Fri (batch 6?) and am wondering this also, and I haven't received an email back. I'm assuming steamboat is just a bit behind like he said. Not too concerned at this point, but I would like to see the chips ordered soon if it has reached the usual ordering point.

It is a valid point, and one that buyers in batch 6 have a right to be asking.

However, that is why I asked if "Geode" has actually made a purchase. So far all of his posts in the thread have been somewhat negative in nature. Will all due respect, if he hasn't ordered chips, I'd rather he take his negativity elsewhere. Smiley

Steamboat can't order the chips right now anyway, the store is still showing "out of stock" and there is no button for ordering like there was before:

http://store.avalon-asics.com/?product=avalon-asic-chips-10000

Drumroll, Avalon Asic v.2.0 in the making?
or, its a web tilt, or friedcat has personal contacts with anyone sitting on these amounts of coins?

The Movie "Boiler room" comes to mind here..

Hi folks
(apologies if im out of line posting in this thread)
Been following this thread for awhile and have been considering getting in on the group buy for Batch 6- for 10 fully assembled fully tested miners. Im a bit confused. Can someone clarify if June 30 was the deadline and ive missed it? I got a couple of replies from steamboat via email saying that there was no deadline and that another batch would come online as soon as last one filled. But as yet I dont have clarification if i have missed deadline for fully assembled miners?
Also can anyone share how they plan to stack multiples of these in the most efficient way? Am I right in assuming they will connect to USB hubs?

I asked about the deadline and Batch 6 a little while ago in this thread. Steamboat said:

The deadline applies to batches 1-5.

Glad this is the case, since my funds for the assembly/shipping costs just came through this morning.  Tongue

Yes, so for anyone in batch 6 of chips. there will surely be another deadline for assembly. (if not , you will have your boards ready, awaiting assembly when the 6th batch arrives).

they are two separates. The one on first page is now on 715 chips until order of batch 6 set of chips (it will be ordered and paid for in full immediately upon the 715 chips).
the second one, June 30th , is based on assembly and parts/components order. He said you need to pay and select what assembly you like, for him to be able to prepare the boards up until when the chips arrive (also stated on first page when each chip order is to be delivered).
He has not told us what happends to those who did not pay for any assembly, after the given deadline.
I hope he will do some board testing , show some proof of working boards, and set another assembly deadline for those still awaiting the right assembly partner on bitcoint talk. (there are at least 3).
534  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Ann] US based Avalon ASIC chips and assembly: 715 remaining on: July 01, 2013, 08:02:49 AM
To be honest I am a bit concerned that steamboat has not responded to any of the questions and concerns posted by the group buy members since the order website went live.

His account summary shows that he has been active but the only posts he posted here were regarding the initial order site issues.

I know he is very busy, but the combination of the short deadline time and going missing during such an important cycle of this group buy is making me feel uneasy.

As I result I still haven’t paid for the assembly of my chips.    Cry

Cheers

yes agree. I'm not falling in for stress here. I will buy the assembly that has been verified and tested. bkk has not even gotten all drivers for klondike fully working so might be change of components even though could be tiny.. I'd wait for verified hardware before paying anything. And there are 2-3 that has shown proof of this, i hope steamboat shows us something soon!
I'm in this group buy, didnt pay for assembly and missed the deadline. I dont know if i'll get another chance of assembly, or if i'll have to assemble elsewhere. My money is where i can get a working setup.
535  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: U HAVE ORDERED AVALON CHIPS AND NOT FOUND SOMEONE TO MAKE A COMPLETE UNIT FOR Y on: July 01, 2013, 07:49:17 AM
One other question, since your group buy that you are arranging yourself (stated 9370 chips out of 10.000 left) is done in usd. What if the bitcoin would be valued at $400 when you need to place your order (10.000 avalons are BTC780, not sold in usd)? You will then cover the difference?

Well done sir. (Y)
537  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: U HAVE ORDERED AVALON CHIPS AND NOT FOUND SOMEONE TO MAKE A COMPLETE UNIT FOR Y on: July 01, 2013, 06:49:02 AM
Our previous batch is provided by a private invester, who deliverd the chips by him self
So, this private investor bought 10.000 chips by himself? what batch was he part of? can you shed some light on this..
If we would visit your office, we can then see your cases without the asics mounted but fully made boards?
I think the avalon boards are too pricey in my opinion, difficulty is rising, even klondike might not return its money..
538  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: July 01, 2013, 06:46:19 AM
this looks great. question, i have group buy from steamboat who i believe share the groupbuy with sebastianju, i can still ship the chips directly to you right?
Overclocking, is secondary right, you focus on making a stable 1.0 and then focus on maybe doing overclocking?
539  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: U HAVE ORDERED AVALON CHIPS AND NOT FOUND SOMEONE TO MAKE A COMPLETE UNIT FOR Y on: June 30, 2013, 05:48:38 PM
When our next batch of 31 ordered 85 units or equal is full, we place the order at avalon, when receiving the chips  it is about 2 or 3 weeks to complete the whole batch

If you want you can come and visit us to discuss further business. Our office is in The Neterlands near by Rotterdam.

Just mail us at info@bitminer.nl

So you started a company and have an office for this project alone? And you have already received Avalon chips for previous batches?
If you place an order now of 10.000 chips with avalon, you will need to order the full 10.000 now, and you will get delivery in September. Are you saying you already have the BTC to place this order, can you show some proof of your past orders?
Not looking to be a buzzkill, just something doesnt sound right here.
540  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Ann] US based Avalon ASIC chips and assembly: 2,779 remaining on: June 26, 2013, 08:01:25 PM
Order #100000070 for 16 boards (my 256 chips are from batch 5).

Chose Full assembly + testing, and express mail shipping.

Now I just need to solve the case and power supply situation.

Steamboat, thanks for all the hard work on this!

am i the only one adding spares to the order? what if a chip is dead.. we cannot return them.. and on 256, im sure at least one can be broken?
