Daily volume V at Huobi seems rather low. It is already 08:00 pm in China and V is still less than 18 kBTC.  At this rate, by the time they go to bed it will be less than 30 kBTC.

The last times it was lower than that were

  Sun Mar/23 (18 kBTC) ,when they were DDOSed and stayed offline for 3-4 hours in the mid-afternoon, IIRC;

  Sun Mar/16 (27 kBTC), don't recall is anything special happened;

The New Year Week Jan/29-Feb/06 (< 18 kBTC), when banks were closed.

'when banks were closed' - does this imply the banking ban has worked, nobody can get money in, and whats left sloshiing around is money already on the exchange?
Sorry, i try to keep up.. but you know how it is. So where are we actually at with China?

The ban has worked and these 3rd party charge cards were the loophole for a while... does this new low volume mean that's been chopped too?

Very cool. I like it. It's logical.
543  Economy / Speculation / Re: RE : Wall Observer on: April 23, 2014, 12:30:49 PM

Only if they hold BTC, if they convert straight to fiat as most do then it actaully creates downward pressure on the market.

This is a good point, that often gets overlooked (I know some on here have previously, raised this)

So, with increased BTC retail sales comes increased numbers of BTC being immediately sold for fiat at market, creating downward pressure?

(Inversely, would we be going up without wider merchant adoption??)

At some point, will come the tipping point, where this downwards pressure cannot contain the upwards pressure, Then we will see the next rally.

As an aside, and as a bit of speculation, i can see sideways movement until around the end of May.

This is based on Tera's charts above, and my own (amateur) reading of the tea leaves charts.

Is it because Gox is going to be liquidated as their application for bankruptcy protection was thrown out - i.e. no chance of being saved. (Ok chances were infinitesimal anyway.. but still)

Bitstamp leaked their customer email addresses by the way, that's why all the new phishing attempts. Reminiscent of Emptygox 2011. Fuck all the operating major Bitcoin exchanges.

This is just getting stupid. After Im confident of the reversal and fairly sure its choo choo time Im getting all of my funds off exchanges and not trading until im confident in a competent exchange.
I have Bitstamp verified account and I never received the gox scam mail neither the btcguild scam mail or any other bitcoin related scam or spam. I don't think those are connected.

Me too.. and i hate posting me too posts. But in this case, i'm in the same boat.. i also had a gox account (that i never used cos i never verified) and got none of these phishing mails.

what is more possible that we gonna retest 600$ or goin again above 700$ ?

Both are possible.. but i'd say $700 a lot more probable.
We haven't really gone below 650 (ish) recently.. apart from on spike down to 633 or so..

Denial is a powerful thing

Exactly, denial is not just some river in Africa.. and how do you know 'most of the people' see it as a ponzi /pyramid scheme. How can you say you know what most people think?

I say, people who think this are mis-informed or just don't understand Bitcoin.
Anyway, I've no wish to even get into a debate with you. I've read the last 30 or so pages through today.. there is absolutely no point in getting into it with you.

Rocket primed, last chances to get in. Chart is clear as day... triangle closing...

On what chart 1hr? 4hr? i can see it on all charts, just a matter of timing.. triangle closing soon.. anytime in the next 10-11 hours i guess.
Will be interesting to see if it does kick up or what.

Jesus, such long ass posts.

Do some people on here actually work and sleep? Like Jorge, that man writes books.
Enough with the dramatic theory's, worse case scenarios and bible talks about this all.

Makes my head spin.

Ok.. CCMF.. better now??

I'm not sure who could be behind this, but it is obviously someone who doesn't like bitcoin, and wants to scare people off.

There is also a large scale spamming of the blockchain going on.

This is someone with (i would guess) considerable resources.

Or like suggested above, trying to cause another drop to scoop up more cheap coins.

HODL!!!!

Looks like btc-e problems are solved already.
Maybe bitstamp is doing a wallet update too, just to make sure the double spend doesnt happen at their side?

And cryptsy is just being cryptsy.

I think if this was the case, it would be wholly irresponsible not to announce it first...

Cos, you know, cause panic on purpose without thinking it through first = Bad.

559  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 11, 2014, 11:48:26 AM
is anyone having trouble withdrawing btc from stamp?

I did a btc withdrawal 1 hour ago, still nothing on the blockchain.

Same here. Made a btc withdrawal 3 hours ago, Bitstamp marked it as finished but nothing on the blockchain

Are they going to pull a Gox too? Now THAT's gonna cause even MORE damage.

maybe its the bitcoin protocol thing for real.

somebody is spamming those double spends at full speed.

Evil - Gox?

Damnit.. i trust Stamp.. don't want them to become tainted as well.

Just to throw another thought into the ring.. A few pages back someone mentioned that the flash crash yesterday was in ways a bit similar to the SR takedown and subsequent flash crash.

Remember what happened after that? We went on a rally. Support was proved, confidence was gained and it things got progressively more bullish.

I think we could be half-way there to having a similar outcome.

Gox is not gone yet, but it is dying. One after one, the voices in the bitcoin world came out and condemned it yesterday.

Coindesk removed it from its price index and many other similar operations followed suit.

It had been a bad joke for too long, everyone knew, but no-one quite knew the scale or the exact issue.

Yesterday cleared a lot of this up. They could still be insolvent too, we just don't know yet, but the community has seemed to turn it's back on Gox in a big way.
Good! They deserve it! But the job is only half done and there could be more bad (worse) news to come.

I guess my point is, much like the SR takedown helped to sanitise bitcoins image and proved support and increased confidence.

Yesterday's shenanigans could possibly have a similar effect. The general sentiment seems to be, Gox are assholes, shouldn't have said what they said, and they are to blame. Yes there is a flaw / bug in the protocol, but it is not new and has been known about for a long time. Their problems are their own fault.

We rebounded pretty quickly in my book. I sold a bit at 700 anticipating the dip.
We were back there in under 24 hours.
Sentiment looks good, in fact i'd say improved! Maybe we won't see $400 afterall.

Could that have been the capitulation? Piggy backing on the news? Flash-capitulation anyone?
