541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Digital Platforms should accept Bitcoin - Makes more sense on: December 14, 2022, 09:59:30 PM
I'm not saying that Bitcoin is totally useless. But on a global scale it's insignificant. It has less than 300k transactions per day - that's nine million transactions per month, So a population of one small country would be able to do one transaction per month if they adopted Bitcoin. So what's the benefit of accepting Bitcoin for a large company? It's going to be a tiny share of their payments and not increase their revenue in any significant ways. But it will introduce development costs, maintenance, maybe even legal risks.

The benefit is more sales. It costs very little to accept this new payment method, and it even diversifies their porfolio if they don't exchange it right away like a payment processor does. In El Salvador the State itself is doing payment processing, and you could use any other private exchange entity if you still don't trust bitcoin but want us dollars. It is a very good example because we can see a country transform by this mere action of adopting it. Even if you don't care there are people who does, and went there to invest, people like Max Kaiser, etc. Same reason bitcoin price is never zero, some people care, and they are growing every day...

Many transactions can be offloaded to the lightning network, especially the small ones that need to be fast. For the rest waiting a few hours or a day is better than transferring from bank to bank and MUCH cheaper across borders, which was their first reason to use it.

I wonder if this upgrade will block running other fw again... Someone did 20.9 J/T with Braiins OS+.

I would assume this is the case however it should help those of us that are still running oem firmware.

What I'm really curious about is.... How many of these are going to end up with bricked control boards after the update?

(I'm still down 3 at this point waiting on warranty parts. Meh..)

Of course, nothing new even for them when they used to call it Low Power or Enhanced Low power whatever. MicroBT has a Low mode as well.
My fear is that its good chance to lock out again others from the control board. I doubt it will brick them, just not allow other fw to run without some hardware modification or until someone figures a method to "jailbreak" it.
543  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How reliable is the AntMiner S19 Pro? on: December 14, 2022, 09:33:50 PM
From what i understand of the chip manufacturing process (since the CPU days) they are in fact all tested individually, and some pass at certain speeds while others don't but work with lower speeds (same voltage) and then are classified according to their "yield".

My guess is when they assemble the hashboards, they mix them to roughly achieve the desired overall speed rating per hashboard. Naturally you are going to have fewer chips of high grade than low grade. This is another reason they introduced the "auto"(tune) in 2017 when the option to manually set the speed disappeared from their fw, it makes more economical sense.

And when the low yields start piling up, lower speed models appear in the market.

Around 2018 after Braiins OS was released they did as well.

No confíes, verifica.

Remember when the S9 asicboost capable chips were in the market for a whole two years without asicboost support in the firmware?
If it is 64TH someone already did 20.9 J/T with Braiins OS+.
551  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS+ support thread on: December 14, 2022, 01:17:34 PM
Be mindful that the latest firmware upgrade promised by the manufacturer for Christmas may actually render the machine unable to run Braiins OS+.

Its best to not upgrade and wait.

554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Digital Platforms should accept Bitcoin - Makes more sense on: December 12, 2022, 08:57:19 PM
People don't want Bitcoin. Steam, the largest online shop for PC games had Bitcoin payments, barely anyone used it, and they removed this option when it started creating problems when network fees got as high as $50. For Bitcoin to have any chance to get adopted, three things must happen - the price must stabilize, the regulators must greenlight it, Lightning Network must be officially released and adopted.

Steam was using BitPay and the problem was with them. But rather than finding their own solution they removed the payment method entirely. I have been unable to purchase any games ever since, because believe it or not, you cannot obtain an internationally valid card in all parts of the world. Once i was barely able to purchase some European gifcard paying at least extra 20% but its way too much trouble, same goes with mobile games. It costs nearly nothing to adopt it, but refusing it is only making you lose purchases, nothing else.

Now at the very least you can travel to El Salvador and find a ton more places that accept bitcoin, even famous American franchises...

You simply live in a world where you take everything for granted, while for some of us it is Bitcoin that actually enabled us to do online purchases.
If it is about Google/Alphabet let me tell you something: Google Pay is not allowed for my country. Now what? YT monetization is not allowed for my country either, people from my country cheat the system in various ways like using a VPN, but that is plain discrimination and a big hassle, and sometimes they go after VPN users so its not as simple as it sounds.

Bitcoin doesn't care about any of that and just works. Bitcoin IS freedom.
555  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Qatar Footballl World Cup - People decided not to watch on: December 12, 2022, 05:54:49 PM
If anything its broadcasting rights that are preventing me to watch. In my country not all matches were aired due to those restrictions. A couple of decades ago not just one but two separate free to air TV networks would show it. And no, I'm not paying premium whatever for it. Of the matches left it appears they will allow broadcast of the reminder except 3rd and 4th place match (the losers of the semi finals).

These big international sports events are good to show the rest of the world when some countries are restrictive. In the meantime the Morocco fans are making a mess in France, why don't they make a mess in their Kingdom? Also China learned that the rest of the world is no longer wearing masks or being quarantined inside their homes...

558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Was Bitcoin project a failure after all ? on: December 12, 2022, 04:14:11 PM
Rotund success. Its still working today as intended. You can pay and be paid with Bitcoin, no banks, no exchanges required. 90% of the coins have been already made, so there are no excuses not to use it. Each person decides individually when to use it and how, it is not dictated by neither the State or financial institutions. Its truly a grassroots made money that can't be manipulated on the whim of a few.

All that remains is even more adoption, and that means education of the masses, which only you can do. Remember this: Bitcoin is not an exchange, and its not about exchanging your fiat into it (yes you can do that but) get paid with bitcoin and pay with bitcoin is the real goal.
559  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How reliable is the AntMiner S19 Pro? on: December 12, 2022, 04:00:49 PM
The best efficiency record i have seen so far using Braiins OS+ is indeed with the S19j Pro 104T producing 64TH consuming 1343W. (20.87 W/TH) which is better than the XP using factory firmware.

It was set to Power Target 1616, HOT temp changed to 60C and Dangerous to 70C with dynamic scaling enabled with a step of 200W.

Theoretically with two of these you can surpass the XP:

Single XP 127T 2730W
Two jPros: 128.6T 2686W

FYI: S19 Pro has the chip BM1398 and the j uses the BM1362 while the XP uses BM1366. Silicon lottery varies the results of the individual chips the manufacturer decides to put in your hashboards, but the general trend is that their higher speed rated models are more efficient (better yield) than their lower ones. So as we have already seen for years, getting the fastest one running low gives the best efficiency results.

As for reliability, yeah its much better than the S17 disaster.

For comparison, the best results i have seen so far with the S19 95T doing 24 W/TH (80TH 1965W), and the S19 Pro 110T doing 26 W/TH (92TH 2415W).
