And back to 700 in the next 15-30 min.. that is a good recovery.

Seeing as it was BS / FUD that caused it.. it is a healthy sign. The market is looking healthier than i gave it credit for.

Okay.. maybe slightly longer, but still.

That wall got partly bought, and then added to. Might be here for a little while.

Imagine if bitcoin actually "dominated fiat currency" and became a global finance leader for banks etc. like the bulls dream of, and then shit like this happens. No way...

I know what you are saying.. but IMO if it were to evolve to the point where it was in a position to do this, then it would be far less subceptable to these kinds of crashes and fluctuations.
564  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: February 10, 2014, 12:01:44 PM
Bitstamp down to 530, then up to 630 again (in like 10 seconds), now 645
Guess i will panic buy a bit more bitcoins i want to have. What about you? Was this the crash

the support after the crash to 102 was incredible. very volatile, but I wouldnt be surprised of this reaction to 630 if the evening had played out as I expected it.
I think in the next days we should expect it to explore 400-500. but right now.....holy moly. I have'nt a clue.

I think it only dipped to 102 for a second, not many people who had bids around there would of had them even filled.

It happened because someone dumped 8000+ coins!

No just a panic induced knee jerk reaction based on Gox's news. The released a press statement, basically blaming the bitcoin protocl for their issues.
A truer way of putting it would have been to say that there is a known bug in the software / protocol, and that their custom wallet can't handle this properly.
They use their own custom wallet for storing bitoicns.. as you would expect from an exchange. It is this custom wallet tht cannot properly handle this bug.
No reason to panic, but that's what folks are bound to do.

It's not the real crash, since this was news based IMO.

I still expect to see $400's

Looks like a recovery.. or bull trap? i don'T know.. who wanted $100 coins??

567  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2014, 10:51:15 AM
My transfer just hit Bitstamp.

Time to buy, guys!

If i were you, i'd wait.. closer to 400 is the trend line.. so we may see a dip below this, maybe not.

Do you want the FUD version, or the truth??

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1x93tf/some_irc_chatter_about_what_is_going_on_at_mtgox/cf99yac

Gox uses custom software for it'S wallets. It's just that they made a mess of implementing it.

I am not personally concerned— at least not by any of the details here. MtGox's slow speed at resolving these sorts of issues and poor communications are not terribly inspiring. They seem to be horribly short staffed— but competent and trustworthy people in this space may be hard to find: The regulatory morass of that business is sure to make many steer clear.
The claims that the delays indicate insolvency strike me as just hysteria: the technical background doesn't support this conclusion, and there may be a bit of opportunism at play from people who want to manipulate the market too. Don't get me wrong: I have not seen their books: Gox may well have financial problems— though with their income its hard for me to see how— but if any problems like that exist they're not being indicated here.
Of course, none of this suggests anyone should be happy with the service MtGox has been providing, but our anger should at least be well informed.

Im' not spreading FUD but do you really believe bitcoin will not crash to 10$ ?

That statement is incongruous to the point of being an oxymoron.

Hehehehe- that comment made my morning!!  Grin

Hats off to you sir!

I'd be glad to inform you!

As an aside, i posted this message on Saturday morning after reading about Mark's story.

The link i posted was to a local newspaper, who carried the story.

The story was also picked up in the national press, indeed Irelands foremost newspaper ran a story on the matter:#

http://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/blind-man-asks-to-be-charged-with-cannabis-possession-to-challenge-law-1.1666863?fb_action_ids=10152156419980349&fb_action_types=og.recommends&fb_ref=.UuKMUnQqjVM.like&fb_source=aggregation&fb_aggregation_id=288381481237582

And now it looks like he is going to take this further, by running for election to Europe:

..any further developments, i will post them here..

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

rpietila - when you speak of final capitulation, it sounds kind of drastic.
I'm imagining you are not saying we're going to zero, as this wouldn't fit with any of your long term predictions.
And that rather, you just mean the final leg down to the bottom in order to complete the whole series of moves down from the double top.

At which stage we begin a new rally? Am i correct so far?
How long does it take, and how far down does it go?

Have you any links to threads where maybe you discuss this final capitulation in detail?

Thanks in advance.

Hello people of the bitcointalk forum..

I'm bringing you the story of one man's legal struggle to have medical marijuana in Ireland.

Mark became blind from Glaucoma 5 years ago, and finds cannabis to be extremely beneficial, and has had bad reactions to prescribed painkillers.
I am from the same part of the world, and avid bitcoiner, and would like to reach out to the good people of this online community,
that if you find it in your hearts to donate a small amount of btc, however miniscule to help this man with legal costs etc, to aid his cause.

Here is the story:

http://talkofthetown.ie/2014/01/24/dundalk-man-presents-himself-to-gardai-with-cannabis-and-asks-to-be-charged-in-order-to-challenge-law/

If you wonder what my connection is, and what are my motivations for helping, just read the story. If you feel like supporting, please do.
I, myself have only read the story this morning, and before that i didn't know Mark Fitzsimons. I have since contacted him on facebook (he wasn't hard to find, as we're from the same town and have mutual facebook friends) and i told him that i would like to help. I sought his permission first before i posted anything here. This can be backed up and verified by either me or him.
I would also add that i am not doing this for myself. Bitcoin as you know is fully traceable, all transactions to the wallet can be 100% audited and are 100% public, available to see to anyone and 100% transparent.

If you support this and would like to donate, however small, then please use the following address to contribute:

Bit off topic.. but i know this thread get's plenty of attention, so cheekily i'm posting here.
It's a link to another thread i posted, it's the story of a man who lost his sight through Glaucoma 5 years ago, and is attempting to fight a legal battle in Ireland for the right to have medical marijuana..

if you feel curious, please check it out. I've been in contact with him and have since set up a address to help aid his cause, legal fees and so on..

sure go on.. have a wee look -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=431596.new#new
