561  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you think that this is aperfect analogy of how gambling addiction starts? on: November 29, 2023, 07:04:36 PM
Read this transcript of Andreas Analogy
The person who wins thinks they were lucky, but they don't think about all the times they lost. As you are doing this, it is triggering your dopamine centers.

This is just how addiction starts,  the hormone dopamine makes them become excited and motivated to gamble even when the game is becoming a problem to them. Most times, the victims do not even take note of all these signs of addiction,  all they know is that they are happy playing and when they lose, it motivates them never to give up.

Addiction can also set in when a gambler has no other job aside gambling.  No other hobby aside gambling. This can be disastrous as the gambler will channel all his time, attention and resources to gambling.  With time,  all he will think about will be gambling and there are every tendencies that he will become addicted to what he channels his mind to always. To avoid addiction,  every gambler needs to have other hobbies and jobs where they can channel their attention to too.
562  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sometimes betting is just ridiculous. Sometimes it is complete nonsense. on: November 29, 2023, 02:27:51 PM
Gambling is not limited to sports alone. Gamblers can bet on anything including war. I have seen cases where Gamblers place bets on women, especially those ones that prove to be too hard to get. Anyone who is able to convince the woman wins the bet. As ridiculous as it may seem, that's gambling for you and many derive fun doing this.

This now becomes a matter of personal decision to decide on what exactly to bet on. It is not morally right to gamble on humans especially when the victims are being affected negatively. During wars, lives and properties are lost, people become internally displaced along with other negative effects of war. This is a time they need our prayers,  moral support and even resources. Making money from this situation shows no regards for humanity.
563  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Is Ai a threat to Nigerias educational system on: November 29, 2023, 07:41:11 AM
I fon reason this matter tire and to me I no see anything wey they wrong with using Ai for school the main reason for that thing na to help reduce the work of students when they wan do assignments and other research. Waiting I come to understand say life they change gradually and the same time things they change. Our parents time school hard because them no get access to all this things, i  can not argue that students are getting lazy but the issue of Ai to me no be bad thing. Sometimes am sure the Ai self go give better explanation pass lecturer.

Yea, during our parents time school hard. Dem dey over stress themselves to get answers to questions and you know the difference between them and us now? That their educational era produce employable graduates.  Dem fit defend wetin dem study anytime and any day.

But you see this present generation now wey no like stress at all? na dem dey spoil the system and na still dem dey shout "school na scam". Why school no go be scam when students no know wetin dem dey do for school? They prefer to copy and paste rather than do their findings and researches themselves.

AI or no AI, the truth be say majority of our Nigerian students dey lazy and that one no be better thing. No be AI sef be our problem,  our problem too long.
564  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can someone explain ? Educated people but all they do is just scam on: November 29, 2023, 06:51:01 AM
You have to understand that intelligence does not always equate to moral integrity. I've come to believe that it is often the individuals with extensive education who engage in scamming activities. This might seem counterintuitive at first, considering the societal expectation that education typically leads to respectable professions and ethical behavior. However, if we delve deeper into this matter, the reasons become apparent. Educated people usually possess a wide range of knowledge, strong analytical skills, and advanced problem-solving capabilities. In scamming, these intellectual abilities provide the tools necessary to devise intricate schemes designed to deceive others.

These highly educated scammers can create elaborate tactics that manipulate others into falling for their scams. Their strategies may involve psychological manipulation, complex fraud schemes, or sophisticated digital scams. They can present their ploys convincingly, making them difficult to detect and resist. With their high level of intelligence, it allows them to adapt and modify their tactics as situations change, making it even more challenging to apprehend them or prevent their activities.

Anyone can get involved in scam activities no matter their educational backgrounds. The educated people people are even more likely to engage in fraudulent activities and scams because they know what people know,  they know what people want to hear and they also know how to manipulate people into buying their ideas. Being educated does not in any way guarantee righteousness.

Many youths this days don't want to stress themselves in getting legit jobs. They prefer to use the knowledge they have acquired in defrauding people and make quick money. I won't tag it laziness because this people invest their time in few cases money into their "scam  business ". The moral consciousness in people is declining rapidly and people can  do anything now for money now.
565  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Not this guy on: November 28, 2023, 02:53:12 PM

I think its those people who can actually afford to lose, the rich ones. Tho I think being reckless like is not only done by the rich ones. There are those who cant afford but still do reckless gambling, many I know. It's like these people get a kick out of the risk and excitement and they don't really sweat the potential downsides. They've got this mindset that as long as they're still breathing, everything's cool, no matter the state of their bank balance. They think they can make up for everythingn they bet.

This young man obviously needs help. This has nothing to do with if he can afford it or not, there are many gamblers out there who can actually afford the amount they gamble with. No one whether rich or poor is ever happy losing money consecutively,  especially very large sums. The young man is obviously addicted to gambling and the bad part is he doesn't see anything wrong with it. Oh yea! Its his money and can spend it anyway he likes but if he is not given the necessary help he needs, with time he will go bankrupt.

Responsible gambling is for everyone whether rich or poor. Same consequence that will befall the poor will also befall the rich ones. It will even be more severe for the the one will the higher amounts to spend.
566  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do not gamble with Loan Money~otherwise you will be in danger like me on: November 28, 2023, 01:22:29 PM
That is the biggest mistake a gambler will make: that the money to gamble with comes from debt. Most of the gamblers who did that did not become successful, maybe even more in debt because the loan was probably used up immediately after losing.

Maybe there are still people doing that, and maybe not all of the loans were used for gambling, but overall, this style remains a bad habit. This shouldn't be a good habit for the gamblers here.

Sometimes I wonder where people who borrow to gamble get their motivation from. What exactly makes them believe 100% that they will play the game, win and pay back what they borrowed. Winnings only happen by chance and one need to be careful of the kinds of decisions they make while gambling as these decisions are capable of ruining them for a very long time.

How come you could make such a mistake even after being active here preaching against addiction. It's a pity though that you would have to go through this as a result of the loan you took for gambling and it turns out south for you.

As easy and simple as it may seem,  not many are matured enough to stick to what they preach. One might become so overconfident in what they can and cannot do and become carried away in the process believing that they can manage themselves,  only to get disappointed when things get messy. No one is above mistakes, that is why we have to be conscious at all times because anything can happen at anytime.

568  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling game is not good and everyone should stay away from it on: November 27, 2023, 09:40:59 PM
Gambling is not for the weak. Gambling is fun. Just like beer, it is sweet and also bitter. It is capable of intoxicating you if you do not play it responsibly. So, If you are not strong enough to withstand the heat, quit!

The issue with problem gamblers is, they put all their hope in gambling and when they lose, they keep chasing losses and when they finally lose everything,  they blame it on the game. Gambling is not an investment,  play it to keep yourself entertained.

OP, if the outcome of your father's games were good, I bet you won't tell us to avoid gambling. The problem is not the game but how you play it. Once you notice gambling is becoming a problem to you, quit when you still can.
569  Economy / Economics / Re: Teaching My Nephews About Wealth Through the Game of Monopoly on: November 27, 2023, 09:18:54 PM
Teaching children about wealth means infusing into them the investment spirit from an early stage. They do not need to become adults first before they decide on what to do with their lives to create wealth. This is a welcomed development and the the right thing every parent and adults should to.

No time is too early to let a child know the value of money and other properties. I have seen children who engage in wasteful spendings because they know absolutely nothing about wealth. Give them the right information and they will grow with that consciousness. They will never be liabilities to anyone.

A child who is exposed to wealth and how it works will be financially conscious, the knowledge they have about wealth will reflect in their daily lives either through their spending habits, the kind of things they demand for and they will most likely develop the savings culture.
570  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Restart, is it a good thing for humanity? on: November 27, 2023, 04:32:01 PM
Starting modernisation afresh? Nothing will change.
Curiosity will still make humans try out new things until they end up discovering and even producing things that will in turn be a problem to humanity. It is impossible for humans to live without trying to alter their environment. Humans will always be humans.

Humans are social beings and must interact with one another. Most times, while in the course of interaction, conflicts may arise, this has nothing to do with modernisation. It is in the human nature to disagree to agree most times. The only difference will be how conflicts are resolved  due to the fact that there will be no weapons of destruction. But know that humans are natural explorers and will explore till they advance technologically again.
571  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Streamer wins seem too good on: November 27, 2023, 03:36:42 PM
Streaming is one of the ways casinos promote their businesses just like any other business and yea! Most of these streamers are actually being paid by these casinos. They play very 'magical' games and go home with very huge wins , thereby convincing the gullible public into playing these games with the hope to win too of which luck doesn't always shine on the public just like it shines on the streamers' sides.

This can be a very exciting thing to watch and if not controlled,  one will greedily spend all he has hoping to win but end up going home empty. One needs to be careful with this beautifully decorated promotions, be careful enough to ensuring that your emotions do not leading into gambling away your hard earned money. At all times,  gamble responsibly.
572  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What I've learned so far as a gambler on: November 27, 2023, 02:02:52 PM
As the Web3 Betting platform we would advice betting the amount of money that you are not afraid to lose. It's like going to casino: you have to learn saying goodbye to the sum that you are not afraid to lose. Moreover, when you win, you get more happier with the final result.

And the most important thing is ALWAYS analyze everything before betting.

We get this advice almost all the time yet gamblers keep ignoring them. Most people who get depressed after losing a bet or game see gambling as a money doubling scheme. They can go as far as borrowing to gamble,  hoping to pay back once they double their money. Such people are causing more harm to themselves than good. Gambling is supposed to be a form of entertainment. Just like any other game, its either you win or you lose. If you use up the amount you initially set aside to gamble with,  go home! Chasing losses will only cost you more money. Until people's perception about gambling changes, they won't stop making costly mistakes while gambling .
573  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why rush, instead of taking your time to learn about the forum ? on: November 26, 2023, 08:43:05 PM
The truth is, many newbies joined the Bitcointalk forum just to make money and not with the pure intent of learning or contributing to the growth of the forum. This explains the reason for the rush. They want to quickly catch up with the reason they joined the forum in the first place. This can be risky as they may end up going against the forum rules and of course we know this comes with consequences.

A newbie is supposed to be a novice,  someone who has very little or no knowledge about a particular field they've just entered. The right thing to do at this point is to learn first. What ever notion you joined the forum with needs to kept aside first for you to give way for self development. Open your mind to learning then merits and ranks will come naturally.

575  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can old generation cause the habit of gambling in young generation ? on: November 26, 2023, 04:00:09 PM
There are some old people in my family which are paying cricket fantasy games. They usually talk about the games and their performance is matches almost daily. It is obvious that if any younger guy in family will listen about this, he will also be eager to know more about this. How can I stop the younger generation in my family being carried away by this and focus on other important things like studies only ?

It is not the younger generation you should be stopping,  rather, you should be stopping the older generation from playing such games and having conversations about them in the presence of children. As far as all these habits are done in the presence of children,  they must take note of them.

A child's mind can easily absorb anything. They are very curious to know and practice what they know. You do not necessarily need to sit them down in a classroom and teach them what they should know, they learn by observation.  This explains why most children behave the way other people in their environment behave.

Adults should learn to do certain things in private where children won't see or learn from.  It is way easier to prevent a child from learning certain things than forcing them to  get rid of habits they have accumulated already.
576  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The most important thing in a betting site on: November 26, 2023, 03:10:23 PM

In general, if a betting site makes excuses to delay withdrawals, imposes limits on the amount you can withdraw per day/week/month, or requests an excessive number of documents for a $50 withdrawal, then these are major red flags, at least for me.

So, what's the number one thing on your list?

Rather than being so interested in financial gains and withdrawals which only comes by chance,  what should be of most importance is the reputation of the gambling site. Before jumping on any gambling site that gives sweet offers like promos, bonuses and quick withdrawals, we should ask ourselves

  • is the gambling site licensed to operate in your area?
  • does it have good legal records?
  • what are other gamblers saying about this site (reviews)? because this can help you decide to stay or leave.
  • how well do they handle gamblers' complaints?

You might ignore all this vital information and end up loosing all you already had. Settle for gambling sites with very high reputation. [/list]
577  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can a gambler be a good bitcoin trader? on: November 26, 2023, 02:16:32 PM
I base my question about whether a gambler can become a good bitcoin trader, because both of them share one factor which is risk. A gambler is a risk taker, he stakes his money without knowing the outcome of the game that he is about to play. There is no guarantee that he will win, yet he goes ahead to play, knowing fully well that he can lose his bet. Same thing with a bitcoin trader, he goes ahead to engage in trading knowing fully well that the market can turn around  negatively for him, making him to lose his bitcoin. Yet he goes ahead to trade in the hope of making profit.

Although there are some differences between the two, like most gambling depends mainly on luck. You play and let luck decide fate of the game, that is the risk factor, because the gambler doesn't have any control or influence to determine the outcome of the bet. Also a bitcoin trader doesn't have any control or influence to determine how the market swings, he takes the risk to trade his bitcoin without knowing the outcome whether it'll be profit or lose. The diffidence between the two is that a bitcoin trader can predict the market, while a gambler can not predict the outcome of a bet, except in sports bet.

So if a gambler where to go into bitcoin trading, do you think that the experience of taking risk in gambling will be an added advantage to face the risk of bitcoin trading?

Though we advocate that gambling should be a form of entertainment and not an investment, we will not deny the fact that gamblers and traders share certain qualities together. Two qualities a gambler and a bitcoin trader share in common is risk taking and patience.

The decision to put your funds in projects you are not certain about it's outcome is risk on its own and both the gambler and the trader are perfect examples of risk takers. If the gambler can risk putting his funds in games and bets that are purely base on luck, why then should he be skeptical about trading Bitcoins?

In most cases,  a gambler can gamble for a long period of time without winning yet he never quits, that's patience and for one to be referred to as a good trader, he must possess this quality.

A gambler can be a good trader, all he needs to do is to learn the basic skills needed to trade effectively and he is good to go.
578  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: November 25, 2023, 02:41:44 PM
If Manchester City can win this match Manchester City will continue to be at the top of the standings and Liverpool will not succeed in taking over first place.
Do you have the feeling that Liverpool will take the first place this season? I mean they might take it temporarily but for how long? I don't find them very stable although they improved a lot comparing to the previous seasons.
In today's game, Manchester City weren't able to win and a draw between these two top teams seem to be logical. That will be a good opportunity for the other 3 teams behind them to get closer or even top them. I am talking mainly about gunners which have a game against Brentford today and are expected to win.
With all amount of modesty, I can say that Liverpool posses the trait to beat Manchester city in the race to the English premier League champions this season than any other club in the England. Since Manchester city began her dominance of the English premier League, it is only Liverpool that has given them a very tough fight
When you also talk about the coaches that has gotten higher number of wins against Manchester United Guardiola, it is still Klopp, so Liverpool stand a very big chance of competiting for the English premier League title is their form will remain in this fair range.
Quote
I am talking mainly about gunners which have a game against Brentford today and are expected to win.
I do not regard gunners as a team that has the ability to fight Manchester City to the tittle after they slipped last season. They might be good now but towards the end of the league, they will fall apart.
579  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: November 25, 2023, 12:55:18 AM
Breaking News: Manchester United want to sign Thomas Müller in the January transfer window:
Erik ten Hag wants to sign Thomas Müller for Manchester United because he wants to make some new changes for the club. So I think it would be a good decision from Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag because Thomas Müller is a very appropriate and well-experienced player, and his way of playing is world-class, which might be very helpful for the Red Devils. Thomas Müller's contract will expire in 2024, and Bayern Munich wants to get some benefits from him to sell them to Manchester United.
Thomas Müller is a very creative and possessive attacker as well as a midfielder who would make some good passes or make some creative chances, despite the fact that Manchester United needs this type of player who contributes all of his best performances.

What did you guys think? Would it be good for Manchester United or not?
Source

I am surprised how you praised the gesture of Manchester United wanting to sign Thomas Muller of Bayern Munich. I think it is a very wrong idea, even if Thomas is the only player that can score for Manchester United, I do not buy the idea that he should be signed by Manchester United. If I may ask, what is the goal of Manchester United? What type of team do they want to build or are they are indecisive as the Glazer's family?
If loom at Real Madrid you will understand that they are tilting towards young players and that is why they signed and retained players like Rodry, Valverdes, Vinicius, Bellingham and more. What exactly is the goal of Manchester United? They signed Casemero from Madrid few seasons ago and we all understood and today Casemero is facing difficulty to heal from injury because of age. They signed an young Hojlund and now want to sign someone whose all live was in Bayern. What is the aim?

Man United recruited Rasmus Hojlund for a transfer fee of 72 million pounds. However, the Danish player's performance is extremely unstable. He started struggling in the Premier League and still needs goals for MU in this arena. I wonder why Hojlund hasn't been able to score in the Premier League yet. I liked Hojlund's performance. He is a speedy striker, ready to outrun the opponent's 4 or 3 defenders. However, it will take some time before he stabilizes. Rasmus is new to the club and is slowly getting used to the rhythm of the other players. Hopefully, he will become a good striker in the future.
The young striker will adapt to the playing style of England. He hasn't played in England before and he is young, he needs support from other tean members like Rashford. Unfortunately Rashford will not give him such a support because he himself is not well this season.
