561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cashing Out Thousands of Bitcoin on: September 28, 2023, 06:15:23 PM

Why would you want to sell everything right now? If I had that much money I'd first think of something that I need. I'd run out of ideas after 10 m probably.
What would you do with that much fiat money? Why would you want to keel that kind of money in an inflationary currency.

I can tell you what I'd do with 100 m in bitcoin.
Sell 1m right now to start spending on the things I need. Keep 99m in bitcoin for as long as I can.

3) What would happen if you suddenly sent a hundred million dollars to several banks/financial institutions? Would the IRS be immediately notified? Would your accounts get frozen? How do you avoid this?

Yes, the IRS is notified even if you transfer 100k USD to a bank account. Above a certain amount bank has to send reports and in the EU it's probably something like 20k EUR, but I might be wrong since they're sometimes changing it.
Accounts don't get frozen just like that, but the bank would probably contact you to ask about it.

I've been reading comments from the other side on this and the argument seems to come down to Waffen-SS Galicia Division, or the SS 14th Waffen Division technically has not been found guilty of committing war crimes as a division during Nuremberg Trials (even though Waffen-SS as a whole clearly has). So there you have it, Russians are Nazi, real SS Nazis are not Nazis, War Is Peace. Freedom Is Slavery. Ignorance Is Strength.

Funny that Canuks are receiving flak for inviting and applauding a known Nazi, but no one is really questioning how a known Nazi managed to safely live in Canada all this time and how many other real SS Nazis Canada is still covering. Well, Poland seems to be catching up Poland seeks extradition of Ukrainian SS veteran who was applauded in Canada

What about Finns? Are they Nazi? Are they more Nazi than Russians, or are Russians more Nazi than Finns?
In 1939 Russians attacked Poland with Hitler's forces. 2 months later Russians, the strongest allies of Nazi Germany, attacked Finland and forced it to give away a part of their country.
Finland asked Germans for help, which they provided and attacked Russia. When Russia begun to get overwhelmed it asked Allies for help and changed sides from being a Nazi helper to a Nazi hater.

History is written by the victors, so now Russia is portrayed as the country that saved Europe from Germany, Poland is the country liberated by friendly Russian forces and Finland which only defended its borders is an ally of the Nazis.

I wonder what sparked this pump. Any ideas?

Gensler's poor performance in Congress? Cheesy
563  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The role of political and religious leaders in the society. on: September 27, 2023, 07:36:37 PM
Religion and politics should be separate. You can look at Iran if you want to see what religious leaders can do in a country if allowed to roam free for a few decades.
Usually countries where trust in religion is very high, like in Muslim countries, end up being poorer, less technologically advanced and more bound by rules. People lose too much time praying to gods that never help them in any way instead of learning, working and spending time with their families. We all make our own choices though, so if they want to do it I'm not going to be the one to tell them otherwise.
564  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Reasons you should not gamble on too many things at once. on: September 27, 2023, 07:25:53 PM
It's important to prioritize and not spread your funds too thin, as it can lead to faster losses. Dividing your focus between many games will increase your chances of losing. But it's just my opinion. Some talented people with ample funds and a solid strategy can make multiple bets simultaneously.

Really? I don't need to watch every single match to bet on them. There's no real "dividing focus" when you bet on multiple matches all at once.

Many people do it during large events like World Cup or Euro with success because often matches are played at the same time on 2 or more stadiums so you can't even watch both at once, but you can bet on both.

This argument that a gambler has to focus while betting on more sports events on one day is rather baseless.
565  Economy / Economics / Re: Chase Bank New Policy On Crypto - Users Beware !!! on: September 27, 2023, 07:10:53 PM
"Chase is the U.S. consumer and commercial banking business of JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Is this really their US branch? I've read this news 2 days ago and they were clearly saying that it's Chase UK that sent this information to clients.

LONDON, Sept 26 (Reuters) - JPMorgan's (JPM.N) British retail bank Chase will ban crypto transactions made by customers from Oct. 16 due to an increase in fraud and scams, the company said on Tuesday.
https://www.reuters.com/technology/jpmorgans-uk-bank-chase-ban-crypto-transactions-2023-09-26/

If I were in the UK and had my money in that bank, I'd use my power to vote them out, meaning I'd move to another bank. It's funny how sure of themselves they are by saying if you want bitcoin you can try with another bank. Try? I don't have to try you MOFOs! 90% of banks in the world will allow me to do it.
566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Inspired Me To Invest In Bitcoin. on: September 27, 2023, 07:01:14 PM
3. Unless you're talking about lightning and other L2s, bitcoin isn't really 'that' fast. Just a lot less annoying than using traditional methods especially for bigger amounts.

Not really. I'm sure you've tried to send money to someone during a bank holiday, the weekend, or something like that.
My bank processes transactions 4 times a day in what's called a session. I think it's something like 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. If you send money past 3 pm you're not going to have it processed until 9 am the next day. Might look like nothing, but I have a job and one day I wanted to buy a car. The seller lived two hours by car from my house, so on that day I had to call in sick at work just to be able to drive there on a week day and be at his place before 3, to send him the money. Otherwise I'd have to go there twice, one time to see the car, wire money and get there the next day to pick it up, which would mean about 8 hours of driving only because I'm unable to send my money whenever I want. Bitcoin doesn't limit you like that.

4. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

Tell that to market analysts who draw charts every day by looking at past years.
I don't like it too, but the whole stock market is built on these principles.
567  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 27, 2023, 06:29:58 PM
O trust me my level of understanding is beyond your comprehension

Pretty sure that's what Putin says to himself before going to bed.

Should I buy or sell?  Huh

Do you want to be the sole owner of your money, or not?
Are you in profit, or at a loss?
Do you have money for your everyday needs, or not?
Are you scared looking at the current price, or not?

It seems like the economy is beginning to take a heavy toll on equities. I wouldn’t doubt it if we saw a 15% correction in the S&P 500 from here over the next several months. Interesting times as we await to see if a recession cancels out Bitcoin’s 4-year cycle. I’ll admit I’m not sure how it will react, but I know we’ll have our answer in the next two years.

It will depend on whether there's an ETF for those Wall Street guys to run to. If their stocks go down significantly and they're forced to take a loss they'll want to move the money to something that doesn't go down as much. Bitcoin market is so tiny that some funds might try to pump it alone. If you dumped a billion USD on spot markets you'd see it pump so much that those "bitcoin is dead" people would borrow money to buy some.
Elizabeth Warren would make an emergency meeting of her team, Brad Sherman would lose the rest of his hair and China would be forced to ban bitcoin for the 25th time.
568  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 26, 2023, 05:42:08 PM
IIRC he spoke about lending in a former interview.

And using it as a collateral for loans.

If bitcoin really becomes a way to digitally store value, people who have a lot of money and are affected by inflation the most will start noticing it. When you have 10k in the bank you don't care about losing 5% that much, but when you have 500 million, the amount the government steals from you every single month is life-changing money. Money you could use to start another business, or invest in someone else's startup.

As for Saylor, it's going to be the best or the worst decision of his life and we'll know what it was in the next 12 months.
569  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do No Send Your Bitcoin To Your New Hardware Wallets I Do This! on: September 26, 2023, 05:34:51 PM
Quote
Step 1.

Don't send your Bitcoin to a hardware wallet until you've thoroughly tested it.

How often do people buy a hardware wallet, send money to it and find out it's been hacked or is bugged and wiped the keys from its memory by itself?
I wonder if you've done some research on this because I'd say this is very uncommon. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I haven't heard of anybody, who bought an original, unpacked device, verified that it's legit, set it up, sent the coins and lost everything.

Quote
Step 2.

Then send it back to the exchange.

What if you don't use an exchange, or can't send it back and forth? You don't trust a wallet provider, but you trust an exchange?
I buy my coins from a physical office, where I bring cash and they send coins to my address. I don't use centralized exchanges with KYC at all.
570  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will The USD (and military) remain a Global force for at least 5 more years? on: September 26, 2023, 05:24:04 PM
We have more than one question here.
1. Will the dollar collapse at all?
Yes, I think that at some point it will die and get reset, the way European currencies were dying and being reset, like the Reichsmark > Deutsche Mark > Euro.
This is bound to happen to the dollar sooner or later, unless we get to remove all the small bills and start printing $1k bills again. Many of you may not know that the US used to print them in the 60s but stopped because they weren't used back when $1 had some real value. Nowadays $1 is barely used and cents have no value, so $1k might be back, mark my words.

2 Will it collapse in 10 years or less? I don't think so. The US will pull all the aces to keep it afloat, including threats and war.
For instance, it could start sending troops to Taiwan if it wanted to escalate the conflict. If the war in Ukraine ends, the US will probably benefit from it, selling supplies and rebuilding the country.

3. Will its military remain dominant?
10 years is not enough for military equipment to become obsolete. Look at Russians and Ukrainians they're using gear made in the 60s. Some soldiers even use WWII weapons.
571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MicroStrategy Bought More BTC on: September 26, 2023, 05:09:54 PM
The amount is not that much, but still, if it will be used for holding purposes then the demand will increase oversupply. Simple as that. How many of you found it a good news?
Not that much for him, but Jesus....I'd never have to work another day in my miserable little life if I had that much bitcoin (lol).
You wouldn't have to work even if you had 100 BTC, to be honest. Wink I don't know how old you are, but in my case a mere 50 BTC would set me up for the rest of my life.

Quote
I'm not so sure about your assertion that Saylor's purchase is going to have an effect on the supply/demand curve.  Bitcoin has gone up a little bit since this news, but the market cap is such that there would have to be a massive, massive purchase made in order to have an effect on the price.
If he was buying on exchanges it would have an effect. Just look at the volumes that move the price. On September 19 someone bought 250 BTC on bitstamp and that moved the price from 27k to 27450.
You can expect that a spot purchase of 5k BTC would get us at least 1k up in price (globally), but this whole week we haven't seen anything like that.

I believe institutions are either buying OTC, or setting buy orders and waiting for scared people to dump into them. Setting floor purchases doesn't affect the price, but takes a lot more time to complete, whicjh they have. They've been doing this for the last year.

572  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling all about luck? on: September 25, 2023, 08:49:02 PM
It mostly is luck, that's how I see it, although it's one of these threads where we can't really be sure, rather say what our gut is telling us.

A good poker player will tell you that it's all about skill and experience, although you can continue to get bad cards and be forced to either fold, or bluff each round. Since you're forced to bet every round, it's going to cost you, so luck plays an important role.
Some people say sports bets are based on skill, but what if a star player has a bad day. We've seen it more than once. Rhonda Rousey was 12-0 in the UFC and people thought she was going to be the champion for a long time and then she lost 2 fights in a row and retired. Who would have thought?

You can't predict many things in gambling so experience, calmness, good money management can help, but they're just pieces that make the whole.
573  Other / Off-topic / Re: Hope $ Wisdom... on: September 25, 2023, 08:21:03 PM
It's an interesting question.
In my country you expect old people to pass away. Nobody is amazed that someone lost his grandma. We simply move on and continue living.
The situation is much different with children. Their deaths are always a shock and people cry over the opportunities that child could have, the things it could have experienced that were taken from them.
It's especially sad when a child dies tragically, like in a car accident or is murdered.

As a parent, I'd choose to die to let my child live. I'd rather lose the experience that I have, but give a chance at longer live to someone who has whole decades before them and the strength to take full advantage of this time.
574  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Flip or Trade? What’s The Bigger Gamble? on: September 25, 2023, 07:58:32 PM
I don't like day trading to be honest, so I'd choose to flip a coin. If you're a swing trader, that's a bit different, long-term traders who hold an asset for a year or longer are also a different breed.

It's hard to choose since you're not giving us more details about the type of trader that you are, but when I read predictions by some people who constantly get everything wrong when it comes to bitcoin, I start to believe in coin flips more and more Cheesy
575  Economy / Economics / Re: If They Can Pay off their Debts, Why Don't They? on: September 22, 2023, 06:51:46 PM
But I don't understand why you say "no one pays their debt", everyone pays their debt right now except for some 3rd world countries, it's not like the US or any other country has a fixed debt and they are just adding money on top of that, the US is paying previous debts, Germany is paying previous debts and they are both taking new ones if the market is good enough for them.

They pay interest, but none of these countries are able to pay their debt in full, unless they'd do something crazy like dedicate most of their yearly budget to this.

In most cases the countries don't do it because it would be a suicide for the party that decides to do it. The voters don't want it to happen at the expense of other things like healthcare, wages and all that. If any government decided that they'll freeze wages, pensions, stop building new roads and houses, stop social benefits and so on, nobody would vote for them.

In other words, governments repay as little as possible because people want to see progress at any cost.
576  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A matter of family conflict regarding Bitcoin. on: September 22, 2023, 03:21:11 PM
Don't say it is all because of Bitcoin. Bitcoin is only one of many investment assets that can be chosen by investors.
He wasn't an investor but a trader. An investor doesn't just lose all his money like that. His loss must be recent because I doubt the guy would lose money in that FTX crash last year and wait a year to finally settle things with his angered wife, although everything is possible.

More likely he bought bitcoin when it was going up above 30k and sold everything at 26 or 25k

He was obviously mentally unstable since: The next day, the police continued their close monitoring of Kritsada, who was under stress and in pain after shooting himself in the leg.
577  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting significant amount on: September 22, 2023, 03:12:05 PM
My heart palpitates during this bet and I really love the intense feeling.

That's what gets people addicted and I feel like you're going to have some problems quitting because the way you describe it, you like it too much and in time you're going to bet more and more to feel like this, just like a climber must go to a higher mountain to feel like he's achieving something and a race driver is going to push the car to the limits because it's harder and harder to get that adrenaline rush.

Quote
Most of the time I lose on this but it's really worth it if I win since I recover my original bankroll plus sweet profit of 20% of my bankroll.

But you lose most of the time. That and the word "worth it" don't go together well.

Quote
I'm always doing this whenever I'm down after long gambling session just to finish with a big bang of surprise.

And feel even more beaten most of the time.
578  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is Marriage a contract or a union? on: September 21, 2023, 04:20:17 PM
It's important that your spouse has the same goals in life. In other words, you have to match perfectly and then you don't need any contracts.

I can give you 2 different examples of couples.
My parents got together because they were having fun, going out together, having sex, and they made me, so they got together to start a family. There was no real chemistry between them, they were together because they were bored alone and didn't really want to be in a stable relationship, which is why they split after more or less 10 years and both never married again.

I met my wife when we were in our 20s and we were together more than 10 years without marriage. We felt good with each other and never needed any paper to seal that. We did that for our families, to make it official for them and so that we'd have it easy if one of us gets into an accident, or dies, because a spouse has all the formal rights to visit you in the hospital, to inherit everything after your death, but a partner doesn't. You need wills legalized by a notary for everything like bank account access and all that, so it's just easier and cheaper to get married.

Anyway, we're together for more than 15 years and it's the same relationship we had before the contract.
579  Economy / Gambling / Re: Casinos not asking for KYC to register and play, but do require it to withdraw on: September 21, 2023, 04:05:19 PM
A copy of Government Issued Photo ID (in some cases front and back depending on the doc)
A selfie of themselves holding the ID doc
A bank statement/Utility Bill

I always find these rules to be awkwardly built to eliminate a percentage of players and allow the casinos to hold on to their funds.
How can you expect someone who gambles on a crypto casino to have a bank account? Maybe the reason they're using crypto is that they're promoting self-custody?

Utility bills are also a funny requirement that not all of us can meet, because when you rent an apartment, the landlord gets the bills in his name and pays them. When I lived like that I never saw a single bill, as the landlord lived in another town and had everything sent to his home address.

The bill and bank statement request has nothing to do with identifying you and all to do with trying to scam you. This should only be asked of players who are suspected of accessing the site from a restricted country.
580  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Never gamble in front of your kids. on: September 21, 2023, 03:46:46 PM
In general, don't do anything you don't want your kids to try.
This includes getting drunk, smoking, taking drugs, swearing, being aggressive towards other people, fighting, abuse animals... Kids learn by imitating you so you can expect them to try all the things you do with their friends and other kids at school. You kick your dog, don't be amazed if a kid goes too far with it and beats a neighbor's dog to death.

Coming back to gambling, I wouldn't teach it to my child, as I don't want to be responsible if they start gambling at young age, but if they start on their own, I'll be there to help them be rational about it.
