561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place on: August 05, 2018, 06:42:20 AM
I feel you phil.

But;  I also see it this way...

Let people drop off the GPU side; and we will see more instances like our Skien days....   Everyone was heavy on asics..... either asics or ETH for the most part.

I see the exact same happening in the future;  just;  a different piece of hardware and manufacturer now.... as well as different algo.

I still must admit:
Each device has it's place....  (good or bad)

But when you consider the ramifications of the devices when compared to each other;   yes;  asics secure BTC;  but,  they secure BTC...    Each different algo has seemed to bring along its own waves of differences in effects on all other devices and strategies.  Just because a powerful device worked for one scenario;  doesn't mean its a good idea for the current scenarios.

If these companies; designed the devices to only make a modest profit;  we would have a winning company/device to support in my eyes... the problem would be severely lessened.... to a point... a dull point.

I wont ever buy a brand new piece of shitmain gear.   Never.    They are a crooked company and don't deserve it in my mind.   I hope many people do the same.      They got excessively greedy;  look at the profit margins that can be deduced.    It's insanity.

I hope we find a way to change the meta of POW mining.....  level the playing field and try to keep this thing from getting out of control and 100% centralized; which is my ultimate worst fear.

Powerful devices further the divide between the "decentralized and attainable by the layman";  and "big fish that can afford to dump on the latest and greatest to reap the second best rewards (first best being the manufacturer).   How can we change this?
562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: XMR-stak-JK 2.4.4 Compiled with no devfee on: August 05, 2018, 06:20:15 AM
Is there a way to adjust the gpu fan speed? I noticed that my gpu got hotter using this miner and the fan speed is only set for 20% and my gpu's temp climbed to 65c, Hope that I can get some help..

Thanks @Dev for this miner for no fee!

Many thanks really go to fierce-UK for making the source freely available so I could compile with no devfee.

what brand of cards?

using nvidiainspector, you can use a command line switch to change fan speed....  maybe that can help automate changing your fans... incorporate into a batch to change settings before then after the app closes....  would be a super simple batch file.

Code:
Nvidiainspector.exe -setFanSpeed:0,100 -setFanSpeed:1,100
makes device 0 have 100% fan speed, and device 1 have 100% fan speed.

AMD?  Not sure of any utilities;  as I leave bios stock and use active cooling in my setups and don't depend on gpu fan speed.

XMR is an intensive algo;  and it does make quite a bit of heat (a prime example is the heat a cpu/laptop will generate when simply syncing and updating the XMR blockchain.....)

Side note:   Monero will be algo-forking again.

As soon as a known good source gets released for the update by the original dev;  Ill pull the source, and attempt setup and compiling it again.
563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: August 05, 2018, 02:58:44 AM
Believe it or not local miners here are now selling 1080tis at the $350-$400 price range.

nutty........ regular reference/blower 1080's are fetching the same price right now here in the bay area....
564  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: August 05, 2018, 02:01:32 AM
https://github.com/monero-project/monero/pull/4218

looks like a new fork for monero

this is pretty good news.

the key is can they fork often enough to hold off the asics?
thank god.

I was watching the diff vs. price recently and it made my heart sink....

now i really gotta get off my ass and try to recompile xmr-stak with zero devfee again shortly... I hope to god the compiler behaves this time.
565  Economy / Exchanges / Re: yobit.net is a scam ? on: August 05, 2018, 01:51:00 AM
Provide forensic evidence that your coins are tied up in their stake.    I bet you can't.

I bet I can...
Here is my Alexandrite address (the one yobit is withholding) : aDeTcJLEPLFPAmP9oJ1cvZRaQ1SVCAEkZz

You can check it here on the explorer: https://prohashing.com/explorer/Alexandrite/

and you will see with your own eyes the coins generated by stacking. But of course you won't admit anything and you will come back with all kinds of silly arguments to try and save whatever piece of credibility yobit still has because you are on their payroll as you yourself have admitted in this thread...

Forensic evidence is evidence obtained by scientific methods....  Not by saying:  "Look, I sent $ to the bank;  and look, they are getting interest on some of their ledger; see, they are stealing money because they have mine;  and they are still making a profit".

scientifically you expect the layman to magically fathom how many of your coins are tied up in their stake....    Do you understand how the entire process of staking works?  The layman would easily be able to follow a dictation of forensic evidence directly connecting A to B.   You are pointing at A, and saying B is happening because of A.

Fact: Just because I have coins in my wallet;  and am staking with my wallet;  does not mean that all of my coins are tied up in the act of staking.... Is it possible to stake with all?  yes;  but it requires configuration to do so.  Do you have evidence of this?  (can you comprehend the missing info i've been speaking of yet?)

You need to have a good understanding of what happens to your "staked coins" when they are used for the stake....  it seems you do not have a clear picture.

I understand your dismay all in all.  been there.  done that.  it fucking sucks.

I also better understand the concept of putting your funds in a blind 3rd party's control.    Risk is always a factor;  weather you use poloniex, coinbase, or yobit....  risk is always a factor when you hand control to someone else that you don't know; or even don't know at all.  You can't blame them for this.  And you can't blame them for swapping behavior solely for your circumstance.....   this is a historical issue.  Why do you think I have mentioned several times that I havent sent any funds to yobit for years now because of complaints and encounters i've had myself?  for the fun of it?

Now;
You speak as if Im actively going out of my way to promote yobit through my own actions and words.   Your shallow analysis of situations is what I keep poking at....  because it keeps bleeding out.   Tell me when I have personally endorsed them and suggested people use the exchange because they are "great" or whatever else people would do to shill a douchebag group.

Maybe this analogy for your misconception about what a signature campaign is and what it entails may help you:
If someone random offered you a guaranteed pay to wear their logo on your shirt... and for every time you spoke to someone while wearing that shirt.... with zero other obligations to the agreement;  and you get paid handsomely....
would you not take it?

And in my current position, would you throw away a free 0.0003BTC per post?  Especially when comparing this particular campaign to all the others currently available that I could ditch them for and pick up?
There presently isn't a campaign that comes even remotely close to what they are paying me;  because this payrate extends back to bitcoin ==~$200.

Could you possibly see the banner on my sig as a way for me to get re-compensated for losses to them?  Through the powers of deduction i have determined apparently you do not... not yet.

You think to shallow about most of these situations;  and I can guess that the reasoning is most likely because of your anger at what 'is'.

All I have been doing is feeding analysis, insight, and suggestions that you are clearly overlooking.

Adding more separate circumstances and instances of people making mistakes, or whatever else;  does nothing to further/better your position.  I.E.  saying they are using your coins to stake and make profit;  is an evidence-less based accusation based on conjecture.
Literally conjecture.

Again, to explain again; in your quote you spoke as if that guy's situation was something it is surely not.   Just like the countless other people whom sent smart-contract coins to yobit's ETH wallets and wonder why nothing ever shows up;  because yobit has stated that they don't accept smart contract coins;  only base ETH tokens....   Yet those people still scream murder because they themselves sent the wrong funds to an incompatible receiver.....  Or they got a piece of malware that drained their accounts, or that they used a 3rd party service to do something and are demanding more BTC to look at the situation.

I am in no way saying they don't operate in a shady manner.   They always have.   But here's the rub;  that's what you picked.   Did you research it before you took the risk?

(BTW, thanks for the conversation;  it helps more and more to pay back what was lost)

566  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Solar Window - a complete power game changer or vaporware? on: August 04, 2018, 07:00:21 PM
... 50 times more electricity ...

No more need to be said to figure out the validity of this nonsense....

Maybe they started this company in hopes that another solar handout by the govt will happen... so they can silently spend it all and fold like everyone else did....
567  Other / Off-topic / Re: Complicated networking configuration discussion..... on: August 04, 2018, 06:22:09 PM
am confused. Will have to read through this 4x and get back with something

Totally what I was expecting.

It's a complicated one.

Basically I am just trying to merge two internal networks at different locations using an openVPN service on a device thats inside network #1.

If my network #1 had a server instead of a router;  it would be one step less complicated... but i would still have the issue of the VPN's network, separating both network #1 and network #2 from being able to freely see and talk to devices on each other.

Since being on network #2 allows me to communicate to devices on network #1 (they are on the outbound to the internet so to speak),  It adds a layer of confusion that you can't ping a device that's on network #2; from network #1.    The only way I can do that is to ssh into the "router" pc for network #2, and from that terminal, I can ping and talk to the devices connected to its ethernet port... and that's pinging a network #2 device from network #2....  not what I need.

Part of this configuration goal is for farm maintenance.   Part of it is so that my family can access my countless terabytes of media and whatnot from their home(s) when It is able to be set up the way I want it.

This task isn't for the feint of heart.
568  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Solar Window - a complete power game changer or vaporware? on: August 04, 2018, 04:26:47 PM
seeing how solar has historically evolved....

I think this will end up like all of the solar companies that have lead up to today....

falling short of expectations, and more importantly, being way too expensive for what it is;  never truly making it to the cost-effective realm of a product and ultimately failing and closing down as a company.

Just a hunch.  A rather big one based on lots of history.
569  Other / Off-topic / Complicated networking configuration discussion..... on: August 04, 2018, 04:23:43 PM
Ok,

I'm going to try and articulate this properly....

I have two networks.   IP addresses are used as an example.

First one is the "Main network".  Attached is my DNS name and several personal services I run from this network.  One machine in this network is a VPN service for my second network.  I am using OpenVPN; and it has been extremely reliable.  The network layout is as follows:  Internet->Router->Devices. This router is set on 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

My second network is a remote network at another property.   It's network layout is as follows:  Internet->Router(With OpenVPN connection)->Devices.
When I connect to "the internet" from location 2;  it automatically connects to my OpenVPN TUN device (remote gateway is 10.8.0.1, 255.255.255.0, the OpenVPN default) and gets the IP 10.8.0.2 as assigned. (so far all as expected)
The router then shares that TUN connection to the internal network at location #2.

From location #2:
I can ping 192.168.1.1 and administer that router, as well as other PC's on that internal network.  I can not see the network shared drives via browsing in windows networks.

From location #1:
Location #2 doesn't exist and is unreachable.

My ultimate goal is to have these two networks linked seamlessly.

I know it should take some sort of custom routing tables or settings in my routers... I am just at a loss.   I have configured openVPN as per all of the documents out there;  as well as following several how-to's on "joining two networks with openvpn" and other such similar topics with no avail.

Now;
The router at location #1 is a Linksys new fancy $500 model with crazy amounts of wifi capability, and plenty of bells and whistles... not a problem there so far... Should be plenty configurable for my needs.    The server hosting the OpenVPN service is running a flavor of Debian Linux.

The "router" at location #2 is actually a server PC running ubuntu 16.14;  Using a USB connected modem, and is using the built in network manager for sharing the network coming in from TUN0 to the ETH0 port.  From there it connects to my 3com switch and disperses across my devices.

There is no way to properly "bridge" an ETH0 with TUN0 so that the local network #2 gets it's IP from the openVPN DHCP service that the router#2 gets it from;  that would take one layer off of my onion....    Does anyone know how to do this?

I would ultimately like to be able to browse shares and admin those remote machines at location #2;  from location #1;  without having to SSH into my openVPN server and try and talk to those devices... and even then, i can only talk to my machine that acts as router #2.

If I need to draw a photo with bubbles and lines... I can do.... but I think I have advocated my issues here.

Interested to hear possibilities for remedies.   I know there has to be a way to add some sort of routes that allow my devices connected to router #1 to be able to talk through to network #2.
570  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: XMR-stak-JK 2.4.4 Compiled with no devfee on: August 04, 2018, 12:07:55 PM
I'm using windows 7. I'm having errors:

After this, the system will seriously brake and Afterburner does not work.
It is possible as that to solve it?
those alerts are likely because it was not run as admin; and because its the first time run on that machine before rebooting. (memory alloc errors)

give it a reboot.  try again.  be sure its run as admin.

as for the rest of the stuff crashing;  check the docs.  individual devices need to have their threads and intensities trimmed.   The auto-configure is just a ballpark setting; and can be wrong out of the box (see the notes on 1080ti issues that are on the github).  Also see the docs about windows and the bfactor/bsleep settings.  They are important.

so far, what I see in your screenshot...   is normal.  VirtualAlloc failed, but after memory pinned, and it moves onto the next thread.

The system seemingly locking up is the miner working... the OS will be come horribly unresponsive.  Its using 99.9% of the GPU resources; and is bottle necking the display port's activity.  The system wont be usable while mining unless you trim down settings in the config txt files.... so do all work/modification with the app not running.
571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: XMR-stak-JK 2.4.4 Compiled with no devfee on: August 04, 2018, 11:32:08 AM
How to configure the display of statistics in the window of the miner (as in ccminer)?
how to disable support for mining on the CPU?
there is none.

to disable individual devices you should read this thread;  it already explains how to modify the settings and comment out the necessary lines and disable/change different devices in the nvidia.txt, cpu.txt and amd.txt....

What would be better is you should check readme.md, compile.md, etc on the official github:
https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak     Just scroll down;  there's links there to each subject.  It goes into great detail.

I didn't write the program, I just compiled the source with no devfee.
572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: XMR-stak-JK 2.4.4 Compiled with no devfee on: August 04, 2018, 10:14:50 AM
yes, this one is current, i am unaware of any algo changes coming up soon.
573  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: XMR-stak-JK 2.4.4 Compiled with no devfee on: August 04, 2018, 09:20:30 AM
please give the file a start.bat for GTX 1070.
I tormented myself half a day, I can not start it at all. I do not understand what to write there.

There is no batch file.

You run the app for the first time, answer the questions, and it generates .txt files with the configurations and starts mining right away.

When you go to run it thereafter, you simply launch the .exe to mine.

You can reference the docs or this thread for how to trim and modify each video card's properties/intensities; as well as how to create separate configurations for use with different pools/algos.

But;  if you wish to have the app auto-run at startup (especially in windows 10);  it should be run as administrator;  its folder should be in the root of C for example;  do not use a .lnk to launch it from the startup folder;  you must make a simple batch and the batch file should look something like this (modify it for your config; and this should be one of the only reasons you should need a batch file for xmr-stak):
Code:
@echo off
cd c:\XMR-stak-JK_2.4.4\
start xmr-stak.exe
Be sure this batch file is set to run as administrator.
574  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dwarf FPGA – the anti-ASIC on: August 04, 2018, 01:28:32 AM
Well, I’m willing to risk $500 to find out what this is all about, but I don’t know I wouldn’t encourage anyone to make this purchase. It is all the pieces of an elaborate scam, and all the attempts to send a review unit, get any independent confirmation, etc. are not happening.

I wouldn’t be surprised to hear in short order than their “factory” is suddenly not working with them because Bitmain and their bank has frozen assets.

Just look at how all these other hardware introductions went before you risk the $$$...

Look at how pandaminer stepped in just the same way this guy did;  but unlike this guy, pandaminer took steps to prove validity and honesty such as samples reviewed by trusted forum members.

I'm getting out a HUGE bag of popcorn for this..... especially after my ignored requests for validity from the OP some pages back... that are STILL unanswered to this day.

--but unlike this guy, pandaminer took steps to prove validity and honesty such as samples reviewed by trusted forum members.
How often does the ETH change the algorithm? Pandaminer is just a bunch of GPUs in a vanilla box. There is no problem to check it indefinitely.

--and why he ignores posts about sending a sample board to a trusted forum member
Because it's sold without this Wink

--1.5M € is no joke and this whole process should be taken more seriously.
This is the annual salary of ten FPGA developers. Without taxes, rent and equipment.

--I replied to the invoice email they sent me asking for clarification about 8 hours ago - no response yet, although to be fair.....timezones
A lot of orders and problems with paypal, thanks to the vigilance of customers. We do not issue new paypal invoices until we solve this problem.

Notice the bold highlights.....

Now let me re-quote his reply to my statement:
--but unlike this guy, pandaminer took steps to prove validity and honesty such as samples reviewed by trusted forum members.

Please explain to me how this answers or is EVEN RELATED to the statements I have made in this comment, and in past comments/questions.....

Red flags guys.

Yes... this product could be real;  but who on earth would expect to be able to do legitimate business with someone of this low level of comprehension???

Anyone whom lost to this guy;  deserved it.  Reference the above quote as a primer.....  Notice the exaggeration of the red highlight.    This guy answered my question like Obama would have;  by making a statement about a different topic.

and reference all of the posts from page 1 to this quote on page 9 and beyond.

Why is this subject still a thing again?
575  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: the RISK of FPGA mining on: August 03, 2018, 09:47:09 AM
My only FPGA risk assessment:

Creating a FPGA based mining schism just entices another shitmain to come to fruition.

The future is seen through these eyes.  I see the future behind us.
There's only greed now in crypto prices for fpga's will never go down only up once a greedy bastard like shitmain starts getting evolved just swapping one devil for the other

that's right. Too much greed is involved in crypto world and it is raising too high. It is shame.

but also look at it this way:

What happened after the Americas were 'discovered'........... up to now.

It's human nature.   A "natural cycle" sadly.

The only thing we can do is try to prevent the bad behavior.  Not teach it to people.

A seemingly impossible task;  but something people should strive for.... to fix the parts about human nature that are least desirable.

But I digress.   I do what I can and this is just another wave in the cycle;  thus my final sentiment about our future being behind us.
576  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: XMR-stak-JK 2.4.4 Compiled with no devfee on: August 03, 2018, 09:41:36 AM
Calling 1080Ti users of this build:

I just got back from servicing a few of my friend's miners;  as well as disassembling and re-pasting cards to be resold...

At the end of my night;  I loaded xmr-stak 2.4.4 and it would crash when it loads the threads for the nvidia cards....    one card, both cards, either card... same result on the 1080 Ti's.

Here's a big rub:
I updated the video driver.  Clean DDE and install clean via the latest available download.    Same results.
Tried my build of 2.4.2.   Same results.
Tried modifying bfactor/bsleep.  Same results.

Here's the twist:
I was given a 1080 from him as a thanks for all the work today....    brought it home;  works like a champ (not Ti...).  We did not test XMR-stak on the 1080 machines, because they have all been dismantled, cleaned, and re-pasted and re-boxed to re-sell and invest the return in crypto during this low....   so;  in my own eyes, to this day I have seen it work with every card I can throw at it except:  1080Ti, and GTX 2xx series....

So has anyone here had success with their 1080 Ti's?
If so:
What OS, Video driver version, and make/model of card do you have?

FYI; this is a driver crash, leading to a cuda error because the driver crashed.    As mentioned above, changing bfactor/bsleep/threads changed nothing.   Mining other algos (xevan, skien, neoscrypt, etc) works fine.

Thanks.    Hopefully this will help me figure out whats really wrong.

I didn't mismanage anything. I sent the coins to the RIGHT wallet. Your response means you didn't properly read my post.
I sent coins to RIGHT WALLET and the wallet was WORKING AND ONLINE when I sent the coins so your pathetic and stupid attempt to make it seam like its my fault is not gonna work.

I was only banned there because I exposed their shit in front of everybody and will continue to do it till people are warned against this scam
You are advertising for a dishonest exchange that is stealing people's money and for that you should be ashamed of yourself. If you advertise for scammers then take makes you one of them.

I repeated myself because you seem to take a situation such as the following quote and repeat it as if its the exchange stealing funds.  See the below:

After opening this thread I am watching in horror how many similar cases....
Some stories are real horror
They are holding 10 Bitcoins from someone since January (when 1 BTC= 16k USD) and not giving it to him even till now (June 2018, 1 BTC = 6k USD)

i.e that person LOST 160k USD because he trusted yobit and even if they fix it now (which i doubt would happen) he would still lose 100k USD   Roll Eyes

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2718718.0

This guy understands his mistake; and another reason why its served as an example to you.   Nobody stole from anybody.  You know nothing if they have access to the coins he sent.   So you have no basis for your use of the word 'holding ...  from someone' and 'not giving it to him'.

You frame it as if they stole the funds and adding it to your shit brigade of a tantrum to try and further your empty case.   Stop it.  Broken logic.  Just stop.

Tell me where on their site that withdraws are guaranteed; and no less in a manner that fit's your schedule at that point in time.
Provide forensic evidence that your coins are tied up in their stake.    I bet you can't.

You have a recorded Tx in limbo.   Guess what, you aren't the only one....    But I guess you could care less about what funds I and others have waiting in the same manner.  IT is why I have always openly stated "only expect to withdraw BTC"... reference many pages in this thread for that.  Guess what;  it's still in-progress.   Just because you think it should be a way, doesn't mean it is a certain way.    Stop with the assumptions and emotions.  Bring facts to the table.

Take this for perspective:
If you have a 8 year old child screaming in your ear; because you are not dropping everything to go out of your way to sit down and do exactly what they ask; right now; non stop.....
Are you going to be inclined to give them what they want?
Or would you be inclined to teach them a lesson about their behavior?

I'm trying to help you see the bigger picture.     I understand 100% what you are getting at.  Pitching a fit isn't going to change reality.... it surely hasn't when it mattered the most (taking directly to yobit... you know, the people who can actually help you)

Yobit IS scam
They stole a shitload of coins from me
full story here with screenshot proofs: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4469296.0
those "proofs" are only proof that you know how to mismanage your funds and blame someone else for the end result of it.
your constant spam is part of your problem and reason you would get banned from sites like yobit... and here.

as well as the mentality of "I mismanaged my funds, and they stole them from me because I don't know how to send them to the right wallet and I expect them to go out of their way to fix my MAJOR mistake when this is one of the most dangerous types of requests to fulfill".
