581  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallet Cables on: April 30, 2021, 09:21:22 AM
If you want a future-proof one, I'd go with the Type-C cable. More and more devices seem to be using that one instead of micro-B. Type-C will surely be a future of almost all laptops/desktops as well, and if you want to be able to plug it anywhere then go for it. Otherwise, there's one more option: cables that have both Type-C and micro-B such as this one (but a higher quality of course). Or what about this one? Such cables allow your project to be plugged into about any device existing today.
582  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: iranian governement and cyber police thinks that i am thief! on: April 30, 2021, 06:04:00 AM
Besides your IP and seed/account, there's no way really to prove that you aren't the thief. Proving you are the owner of an account/wallet is easy, but proving you aren't is about impossible..
583  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Storing bitcoin offline, are these steps secure? on: April 29, 2021, 07:37:10 PM
1. Boot Linux.
2. Do not connect to your home internet.
3. Transfer the electrum installer that is verified to your freshly-booted machine.
I find it easier and perhaps safer to download a Linux distro with Electrum already installed on it instead. Tails has Electrum preinstalled. It's amnesic, so there's no need to get rid of anything after using Electrum in the first place. The USB disk can be wiped through a Linux terminal afterwards.. or just destroy it instead and buy a new one - Tails requires minimum 8 GB of storage; in Romania a 8 GB flash disk is ~$3.5.

3. Transfer the electrum installer that is verified to your freshly-booted machine.
This is not very safe if you don't transfer the installer properly. If you do it by USB, chances are you're going to plug in a malicious device into the offline computer.

6. Copy all of your receiving addresses and transfer them to your USB as a txt file. You can view them by clicking on “View” --> “Show Addresses”.  (Warning: The addresses, not the private keys!)
7. Get rid of the linux and copy that txt file to multiple drives.
Here I think it's a better idea (although not sure if it's as safe as storing public keys) to store the pubkey which is basically the access key to all public addresses you own on that seed. Rather than copy-pasting hundreds/thousands of lines, you just import that one instead.
584  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin newbie willing to pay to be guided through the whole process on: April 29, 2021, 06:46:56 PM
It's much easier if you ask some specific questions instead. If I had to tell my story and what you should avoid or what you shouldn't, I'd probably have to write book-long posts - and I think anyone here who has at least a few years of experience with BTC and/or alts could confirm this.

My very general tips: avoid KYC, be careful with taxes since some countries have very annoying and strict crypto tax requirements, keep your coins in a personal non-custodial wallet (check out NotYourKeys.org for more important info on this) and try to generally avoid anything that seems too good to be true because 99% of the time it really is. Also, since you're new, I highly recommend to stick on to BTC first before even contemplating investing in alts.

Read, read, read. Helps a lot.
585  Economy / Economics / Re: How a digital EURO may look like on: April 29, 2021, 05:31:45 PM
When central bank coins will be out the main FUD central banks will have toward Bitcoin will be lack of privacy. People will get very sceptical of using Bitcoin and give their information's for everyone to see compared to have same privacy as they have right now with central bank coins.
There's definitely more privacy with BTC than there'll be with CBDCs. What these guys'll do is they'll make it so that you'll probably have some kind of imaginary privacy, something similar to the COVID-tracing apps. You theoretically have privacy since the data is exchanged randomly, yet it's not that hard to link a device to their owner or two devices to each of their owners.

We are pseudonymous. CBDCs will be fully open to the authorities, something very similar to the banking system we have today. What I'm more worried about is that Bitcoin doesn't have any privacy besides coin control, mixers and CoinJoins, out of which the first is a quite difficult task if you want some persistent privacy while the other two are seen as coin-stainers. If that many people want privacy for a digital coin, then I'm afraid neither BTC or CBDCs are the proper answer.
586  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alts will find their own course? on: April 29, 2021, 04:05:55 PM
Alts have tried to find their own course every single BTC cycle, yet they failed tremendously every single time. They'll keep on following BTC - these pumps are only temporary and usually end up in the cripple of the entire market.

I was here back in 2017 and I remember the alt hype. It was insane, and it did convince me to move some of my funds to alts as well. It only took a few weeks for the entire insanity to stop and make an U-turn tho, and when it did, I did not only lose USD value out of my portfolio. Bitcoin pumped like crazy and I lost both in USD and BTC pairs. At the end of the day, most alts are still useless P&D schemes.
587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IDEA! Bitcoin Dominance - $hitcoin's v Satoshi's on: April 29, 2021, 10:24:53 AM
Imagine it as a slingshot. The more money is attracted from BTC into alts, the more the slingshot is pulled. The release will be once Bitcoin moves up again and it'll certainly be a strong bounce, just like all the previous ones.

I don't know but mentioning satoshi priced in USD instead of bitcoin to trick newbies thinking that it's cheap could work. It's just Psychology.
Even if it does work from a psychological POV, what are the long-term benefits? Is it really worth the efforts? Best case: more people see Bitcoin as a still cheap asset.

A better way to check this out is by comparing the supplies and create a proper price ratio of those shitcoins vs BTC's. Bitcoin has ~18.7M coins in circulation. DOGE has ~129,389,700,000 coins in circulation, which is 6921.5x more than BTC's. Therefore, if DOGE had Bitcoin's supply, it would've been worth ~$2146 right now. Is the price worth it for the useless coin? I'd say it's a big no.

Another factor why they buy Doge is that they believe it could increase in price like bitcoin.
To be honest, if someone thinks DOGE could rise even to the high Bitcoin had in 2013, ~$1200, and sit on a tremendous mountain of $155,267,640,000,000 as a market cap without even being useful at all, then unfortunately they deserve to learn this is impossible through their own mistake.

These people prefer to put their money in bags of shit hoping they'd become billionaires overnight instead of actually documenting and studying these coins and seeing what kind of wonders Bitcoin can do. There are so many signs everywhere around not only that Bitcoin is here to stay but also that pretty much 99.9% of the coins are completely full of bullshit and useless. Not willing to listen to those signs is a personal choice. When they'll want Bitcoin, it's gonna be too late and you'll find these guys in ponzi/scam networks like "Pi" hoping they'll find one very special grain of sand among the shore.
588  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Sleep Mathematics. on: April 28, 2021, 08:51:33 PM
We fall sick surely and it affects our activities and that also means sickness reduces our active lives.
It reduces our activity, but it doesn't stop us from being active. Or, are you a full-time potato whenever you get ill?

Anyway, how many times does one really get ill per year anyway? For me, it was twice at most an year out of which only 1 or 2 days were lazy-days, but definitely not full-time-potato days. In 30 years, this might account for 60 days at most of laziness, which probably is completely different to what OP seems to be calculating. When you sleep, you're not really aware of the surroundings..
589  Economy / Economics / Re: Biden's IRS Plans Could Boost Crypto Adoption on: April 28, 2021, 08:42:32 PM
Not really a good idea, unless privacy coins are used. Otherwise, blockchain analysis might get them into a lot of trouble.

At this point, I think it's better to stay offline and keep your illegal activity there as an underreporter or non-payer. Much better than moving to crypto. As far as I know, these guys keep their bank activity in the grey zone where txs are interpretable. Anyway, I have a quite strong feeling that the vast majority of those not paying are part of the upper class rather than the poor.

The upper class is way more experienced and has instant access to experts that could teach them how to avoid taxes while still staying in the legal area, while the poor pay taxes under the fear of messing up in case they try to move just a little bit away from the system.
590  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Cel mai bun card crypto? on: April 28, 2021, 03:35:46 PM
591  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoin: Too Big to Fail? or Too Big to Jail? - FED Goes Full Retard or Ponzi? on: April 28, 2021, 09:35:41 AM
I have two questions for you:
 1. Why call it a ponzi?
 2. Why do you keep repeating that China has control over Bitcoin when there is clearly zero evidence to sustain your point? No "exits" have been closed for the West or any other part of the world ever before and any attempt of control has one, very strong counter-attack: HARD FORK.

China is becoming a global superpower. They clearly produce so much cheap stuff that they can afford to own the majority of the hashrate. If and when they ever plan on being malicious for the network, the devs simply pull them out of it. Simple as that, because it's open source..
592  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Any idea how to get back assets from Cryptopia? on: April 28, 2021, 08:10:36 AM
They had a lawsuit and AFAIK they allow for coin claiming since the end of 2020. Go over at their website where you can see the latest updates.. if you had an account over there, it might also help to check out your emails from them.

Keep in mind, this process of claiming requires very rigurous KYC procedures.
593  Economy / Economics / Re: Are some too blind to see? on: April 28, 2021, 05:58:05 AM
Of course there are so many blind people and of course the rich are profiting off these opportunities. It's literally multiplying your wealth by mentioning one word in a tweet. One must be silly not to do it when they know it works.

But this thing is itself a mega opportunity for you. If you see there are so many blind people, take some action before they wake back up to reality. While they're taking care of their shitcoins, you go and invest in real coins instead. Be a few staps ahead of everyone else.
594  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Offline Transaction on a airgapped computer -Transaction process- on: April 28, 2021, 05:53:21 AM
This older post of mine may help you our with the process. It's not that hard, but it does require quite a few more steps than the normal wallet does. Smiley
595  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: RUMOUR: Facebook will announce they hold #Bitcoin on: April 27, 2021, 10:35:08 PM
If this is true, I expect a huge leg up in the BTC price very soon. As much as I hate Facebook, they have an incredibly large userbase. I wouldn't be too proud to know that corps are investing in BTC either, but it is what it is. They're chasing profit, but the scary part is the kind of power they earn over the economy through their billions. Facebook and Tesla alone could cripple the markets within the snap of a finger if they wanted to, considering the mass of BTC they could own together.

If Facebook really holds Bitcoin, then it seems really interesting to me that they still haven't announced it. Tesla made a huge investment and they announced it, for example. If Facebook also makes an announcement like it, the price could go to the moon again.
Wouldn't make sense to announce before the investment. Tesla didn't either. It'd be a very bad idea. Best thing they can do is keep silence and invest in the background while nobody suspects a thing. Otherwise, Tesla or Facebook would have to purchase after a pump..
596  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is it profitable running Bitcoin core validator at home? on: April 27, 2021, 09:46:54 PM
There are no "validators" in the BTC network. There's just mining and full nodes, out of which the latter are not incentivized. Closest you can get is mining, which requires expensive hardware that needs regular upgrades.

Validating is something specific to Proof-of-Stake blockchains. Bitcoin is using Proof-of-Work. If you want to read more about this, check this link out.
597  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Cumpara Bitcoin fara KYC: ATM-urile Bitcoin Romania care respecta anonimitatea on: April 27, 2021, 10:38:18 AM
598  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 26, 2021, 09:25:07 PM
What a boring time. Bitcoin seems to be making moves but only in the wrong direction.. waiting for it to recover seems like a damn eternity!

TSLA is releasing their financial results.
They didn't Hodl, and sold some of their bitcoin stash:
Is there any chance he's purchased Doge temporarily instead, moving from BTC onto it in order to multiply his coins? He already knew very well how much influence one tweet of his could have over an alt.
599  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Cel mai bun card crypto? on: April 26, 2021, 02:59:09 PM
Smiley
600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Full Node Poll on: April 26, 2021, 02:23:41 PM
Just realised that in my previous post I haven't replied to the thread itself; I'm running a few full nodes already and I'd happily run one 24/7 only if I had a low power-consuming device such as a phone/Pi to run it on.

It depends what kind of Raspberry Pi device you are using for your bitcoin node, and I know some people who are using Pi4 and run full and pruned nodes without any issue, but important thing is to have enough RAM and solid hard drive.
Yeah, well, Pi's with >4GB RAM and decent storage are way well over $10 so in this price range you only get the Zero, which is practically useless..
