5841  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League Betting Pool v2.0 | Current pot: £420 on: January 18, 2018, 12:54:15 PM
For me we can establish a BTC amount regardless of its equivalent value in £.
0.003btc seems  the right amount.
I wanted to propose to insert a small contest with bonus points: each user will predict the final standing of premier league (first 4 positions) and only those who guess exactly (the 4 teams in the correct order) will have a bonus of 50 or 100 points  add to his final score.
Do you like  this idea?

Although, I like the idea of people competing and trying to guess the top 4. It's probably unfair to those who have accumulated points through the rounds. 50/100 points is a lot and could see a user leapfrog over multiple people because of it. I think guessing the scores/results is much more difficult than guessing the top 4.
5842  Other / New forum software / Suggestion: Patrol filters on: January 18, 2018, 12:40:31 PM
I've looked at the current requirements:
Quote
A patrol page which shows only posts by users in certain membergroups, allows quick reporting/deleting/nuking, and keeps track of which posts on that page have already been seen. Plus a user setting to show a link to this page in the header.

It doesn't seem to mention anything about filters.

I think adding filters to the patrol page will help users report more due to it being more clean and relevant to the user viewing it. For example, a lot of the patrol page is local boards which the majority isn't relevant to the user patrolling it. Could we either have a filter included on the patrol page or automatically ignore any of the boards that the user is ignoring?
5843  Economy / Reputation / Re: My list of users banned from signature campaigns + Submit your own spammers on: January 18, 2018, 11:55:14 AM
I've been compiling a list of my own the last two or three days. Most of them are spamming in the altcoin section, I tend to report their post and then take a look at their posting history. If they have more of the same I will add them to the list. I then archive their posts, before reporting any of the other posts that are breaking the rules.

I archive it due to most of their posts will be deleted after I have reported them, and I want some evidence to back up why they are included in my list. My list will only contain Members and up. No newbies or jr member accounts. Otherwise, this list would be thousands long, and it's simple for a newbie to just make another account.

I'll probably send this to many others which maintain a public list, and potentially campaign managers. Depending, on how this list is viewed/implemented into the existing lists I'll either send updates to people who want them or create my own list in the future. I would like to be able to reference the list when reporting users who have spammed before, had their post deleted and continued to do so. Staff members may appreciate that, and it may lead to users being banned rather than they posts simply deleted continuously. (As admins are the only ones to see deleted posts)

Whether or not staff will accept an archive for evidence remains to be seen. Depending on the public reaction, I could potentially add comments to each of the accounts to specify my reasons for inclusion on the list. Quite frankly though the list consists of those who break the rules, broken english, poor replies, repeating previous replies in the thread and users who mainly only participate in bounties.

I may consider organizing the list in the future into categories. For anyone looking at this list though, I suggest not implementing/tagging them without looking at the archive yourself. Don't look at their post history alone, as it's likely that a lot of their posts have been removed. I'll be going through the list shortly reporting any replies which are breaking the rules.

This isn't the final list. A few accounts on here will likely be removed in my final revision. Consider this a temporary list, which I would appreciate if anyone wants to nitpick a few accounts which shouldn't be in the list. Although, I will say a few of these accounts have replies which have already been reported by myself and got deleted before I thought about making this list and archiving their history.

You'll have to determine yourself whether you are going to add any of these and what sort of blacklist they fall under.

I'll work on formatting after the final revision. Believe it or not this took several hours to collect the usernames, archive their posts and then include them into the list. I wasn't originally going to release the list so the formatting wasn't taking into consideration in the early stages. I'll probably not do weekly updates either. I would imagine I'll be doing it every 2 weeks ish. Some of these users have been banned which I'm going to go through and either strike them out or remove completely.

5844  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] 500.000+ Bitcoin's Users Email list ($99) on: January 18, 2018, 02:01:40 AM
When you say "scrape" are you collecting emails which are already public or have you managed to download the databases of several different sites which were obtained illegally and are now trying to earn a quick buck off of them.
5845  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League Betting Pool v2.0 | Current pot: £420 on: January 17, 2018, 12:47:15 PM

I'll give it 24 hours and hopefully there'll be a bit of stability as it seems to have steadied a bit already but who knows what will happen during the rest of the day. Most people will send the money in on the day I send the address out but it'll likely take a couple to get every one in and I would rather people not decide to pay just because others paid much less than them (or the opposite).
Whatever you think is best. I guess I'm a little bias because I don't really care about the current price of Bitcoin. I would be happy to send in an equal amount of Bitcoin, rather than fixing it to the price. Obviously, it's already been agreed to send in to the price on the day, so it probably wouldn't be right to fix it to a Bitcoin value.
5846  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League Betting Pool v2.0 | Current pot: £420 on: January 16, 2018, 11:50:45 AM
You could start sending out the payment address to everyone now, but include that if they don't want to pay today, due to the instability of Bitcoin right now they can wait until x deadline.

Otherwise, we could have the issue of sending the payment information out too late and some people not meeting the deadline. So in both instances the pot wouldn't be as big.  As long as the information has been sent then it's up to the people involved whether they want to pay now, or closer to the deadline.

You should already know this though, as everyone who uses the forum should have read that thread at least once.
5848  Economy / Reputation / Re: Fake translation service needs a nag tagging on: January 14, 2018, 05:03:39 PM
Hey, if you can do as much as possible to tag the shit posters I'm all for it. Because they aren't always banned and their posts are more often than not just removed. I don't think I've got the patience to report, archive and then neg them though. I might consider adding their username to a list then I'll send anyone who's publicly listing spammers. For example, Atriz and SMAS.

Most of them being newbie accounts, so I'll probably filter them to Jr member/Member and above.

I was in a hurry I changed it now.
I found it funny nonetheless.  Tongue

5849  Economy / Reputation / Re: The Pharmacist - Attacks Filipinos here in BCT on: January 14, 2018, 03:42:53 PM
While The Pharmacist tends to go a bit overboard in his rhetoric, as many have mentioned, his frustrations aren't completely unfounded. Nothing has led me to such desperation as watching East Asian and Russian spammers flood the forum with waves of crap that I'll never be able to mop up, no matter how hard I tried. And while the not every [insert nationality here] is a spammer principle applies, trends do exist and certain countries with shitty living standards do tend to dominate the spamming sphere more than their more affluent counterparts. (Usually) not the individual's fault, but the mind does tend to lump people into categories.

I've witnessed how much work the mods actually do to try and combat the spam that keeps on popping up. By the time they have mopped up a few hundred posts when they check again there's another few hundred posts to deal with. It's a vicious circle right now which quite frankly won't be prevented by hiring new mods. Changes to the structure of the forum is likely the only way we are going to combat this. But, then we risk hindering the actual legitimate users of the forum, which I for one aren't a fan of.

Signature campaigns are a big problem of the forum. Changes have been forced which are far from perfect. The changes which have been made have done little to actually stop the widepread spamming. Serious discussion and it's sub board for example isn't dealing with it directly but, allowing a safe haven for discussions that people want to talk about without the annoying spam.

It isn't just signature campaigns. Altcoin annoucements and bounties are a big part of the problem and it tends to be a spamming ground for many non English, broken English and English responses.

You could pay $2 per post, whatever the fee per post, it has to be enough to pay for at least 6 new mods, 2 of them to be active for 8 hours, another 2 for the next 8 hours and the last 2 for the last 8 hours of a 24 hours day. forum needs more than 6 new mods, this is just to have 24 hours online mods on the boards with the most spam.
Let them pay, if you have enough moderators, you could stop them from breaking the rules. you say they'll rank up by spending time? they are doing the ranking up and are earning at the same time, if they'd post just to rank up without breaking the rules, you couldn't do anything to stop that, it is their time.
The forum shouldn't have to accommodate for signature campaigns. Signature campaigns should accommodate for the forum. What should be done is if the signature manager isn't doing it's job then the thread should be trashed and the manager punished.

I don't know if you've ever run something which requires using moderators, but it's incredibly difficult to find trustworthy ones who most likely have no identity attached to them, more so on a cyptocurrency forum. Plus, any of the reports that I make normally get dealt with within a few hours at most. The forums staff team cover almost 24/7 between them.

Fixed, thanks. Whenever this happens, please email or obfuscate-then-PM me what you posted. Cloudflare has a ton of rules, some of which seem useful (like detecting fake robots), but others do stupid stuff like that.
5851  Economy / Reputation / Re: Fake translation service needs a nag tagging on: January 14, 2018, 02:52:29 PM
That account is on his way to getting banned he's already had several posts deleted in the modlog and has several posts which aren't allowed which have now been reported. I don't personally give anyone negative for shitposting, simply because there's way too many to deal with and they'll only claim why hasn't x received negative as he does the same thing. Especially newbies as they'll just create a new account.

Fair enough for higher ranked members. If you were to tag all of the shit posters in just the alt coin section you would be negging around a thousand a day.

I'm not sure whether a negative is deserved for the service he is offering. If he's willing to use an escrow and the escrow can verify the translated texts then that's fine.

Although, it does appear he uses the word "threat" for thread a few times in his posts:
Quote
unique venture is there bounty program for ANN Threat translation in Arabic
Quote
It's a unique project. Do you need translation for ANN Threat in these languages Urdu , Arabic, Russian, Indonesian, Hindi, Portuguese

Probably not a one time typo, and probably can't translate to a good standard. Doesn't seem to post in any other language considering he's fluent in them either, you would think he would at least translate his announcement thread to local boards. Was your title being ironic when you spelled neg like "nag"?
5852  Other / Serious discussion / Re: 2-Factor Authentication on: January 14, 2018, 12:23:27 PM
For a lot of people if not everyone , their belief lies in reputed and "trusted" companies.
This shouldn't be the case and especially so with an authenticator.

Any particular reason why? I have been using authy and I say it is any day better than Google authenticator, for it doesn't BACK up your fucking data. Almost had a nightmare when I un-installed it by mistake, had to contact so many exchanges to remove the 2FA Undecided
I personally have never had any issues with authy.

The main reason why I wouldn't use Google authenticator or Authy is because it's not open source. There's open source alternatives which have been mentioned above which are simply better. Before you say Google authenticator is open source, the app which you download on the store is not.

Also, for their multi device feature to work, then your keys need to be stored on a server for it to work. So they certainly keep records/data. These are encrypted by the backup password you set. This is encrypted using AES and a randomly generated salt using PBKDF2. So the data is stored otherwise, it wouldn't be possible to restore access using another device.
5853  Other / Serious discussion / Re: 2-Factor Authentication on: January 14, 2018, 01:17:12 AM
If you care about your privacy you shouldn't use any Google's product, no matter how good they are. It's how the company make its income, using your privacy.... Who knows if in 10 years we learn that in fact, it was another shady product
This is almost true for anything which isn't open source.

I have read Authy is far better than Google Authenticator.
I would recommend staying away from Authy, but if you are to use it then make sure to turn off multi device in the settings. This prevents recovery from other phones. If you ever want to transfer to another phone though this option will need to be enabled.

Send a PM to him: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=35

Don't expect a answer right away, he probably receives hundreds if not thousands of personal messages a day, and most of them will be trash.
5855  Other / Meta / Re: Account is stolen, Please help to restore on: January 14, 2018, 12:02:48 AM
Unless, that document isn't loading correctly on my phone there's no Bitcoin address there. Even if there is one listed there that's using an external source which won't be accepted as it's easily editable. The address needed to be posted on the forum and unedited.

That account is walking a tight rope with these types of replies though:

5856  Other / Meta / Re: Account is stolen, Please help to restore on: January 13, 2018, 11:49:04 PM
I don't see any address posted here, and you've seemed to have signed a random address which has never been posted publicly. You've linked to a bunch of social media profiles which aren't accepted as proof of account.

The account hasn't posted an address publicly, if you have ever sent one via personal message then include that. If not you aren't getting that account back.
5857  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: PLEASE HELP !!! UNCONFIRMED BTC TXN on: January 13, 2018, 11:15:30 PM
50 satoshi per byte is a very low fee, according to the current rates. Depending on the client you may be able to perform a childs pay for parent. I'm assuming you are using Bitcoin core though, considering you have posted it here in technical support. Really, the only option you have is either using a paid accelerator or attempting to use a free one. This is basically paying miners to focus on your transaction.

In future, look at this website to find out what sort of fees you should be sending.
5858  Other / Meta / Re: My original account hacked on: January 13, 2018, 11:03:02 PM

I ask to return this email address

tnx

This isn't accepted as evidence. Only an address which was either posted publicly or sent via a personal message. Without that information you aren't going to get the account back.
5859  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: should you advise me to buy bitcointalk account? on: January 13, 2018, 09:12:55 PM
Buying the account for the forum will not be accepted or tolerated by the forum moderators bro. If you are come here to make the money alone here in the forum that is also not good for you bro.
If you know about the rank and activity growth of your account i do not think that first you will have a thought to buy the account and all. If you make post daily you take your account to full member rank with in 4 or 5 month without any issue.

You are wrong. Mods won't do anything about you buying an account or selling it. It's allowed per the rules. Although, DefaultTrust members and DefaultTrust2 will certainly tag you if you are buying/selling accounts. Don't buy accounts. You'll either be scammed or red tagged.

Ik that's the problem wait time 4,5 months. Why mods don't  tolerate selling and buying and yet it is available here? I don't mind if I will end up being active for few months but if there's a good shortcut why wouldn't I use it?

Do you happen to know safe way to do the trade or I should simply forget about it?

Because you will be tagged. Plus campaign managers should also look at the posting history of the account and access whether they get accepted by that. If you are buying an account it's likely been farmed and is obvious. Don't waste your money because you'll be found out eventually.
5860  Other / Serious discussion / Re: 2-Factor Authentication on: January 13, 2018, 09:07:40 PM
If you are that bothered about privacy issues then you can always use a separate mobile phone just for that purpose. I mean they are pretty cheap to pick up these days.

If you are using SMS verification then those messages could potentially be intercepted by someone malicious and Coinbase actually hit the news for this reason.  I don't believe that a third party website is required to send any of the credentials to Google though. So you are safe in that aspect.
