I have always wondered, why we can't see who is banned and who is not. To prevent abuse which you mentioned, temp bans shouldn't be shown, and perm bans should.

I think, best case scenario everybody should see who is banned and who is not. If that's not an option, users who actively reporting should get this privilege, as a small bonus.
I'm not sure what the benefit of knowing this information would be though. If you are reporting one of their posts then it doesn't really matter whether they are banned or not if their post is off topic/spam or what ever as it adds to the clutter of the thread.
4942  Other / Meta / Re: Additional moderators still needed on: July 27, 2018, 02:19:19 PM
There has been votes in the past: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1685557.0

However, that particular link was for promoting an already existing staff member to a global moderator. As you can see from the disclaimer in that thread its an unofficial vote, and doesn't guarantee any results based off of the vote. Theymos likely already has people in mind for hiring as staff members though, and its likely that they are the ones reporting in these sections actively.

I'm pretty sure that there has been elections for local board staff members, and they have been considered.
4943  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 27, 2018, 01:21:20 PM
Non staff can't see a users banned status, correct?
That's correct. Although, there can be telltale signs such as signature etc.

Is there a reason for that?  Perhaps one "privilege" for a large number of reports could be the ability to see banned user status?

I remember having to check the modlog to see and it was a little annoying!

Probably, to prevent abuse. If someone is temp banned for a week or so, and this is public knowledge it could come up later down the line. I'm not sure about displaying banned members. It can be useful for reporting, but I guess removing their message if it infringes the guidelines is probably the right thing to do anyway.
4944  Other / Meta / Re: Global Moderators fired? on: July 27, 2018, 11:18:15 AM
Yeah, its easy to track their payments. However, note that some moderators might not have an address listed or they are using a private one instead of the one listed on their profile. There's several reasons why they might have done this. Its also optional for a moderator to receive payment, and I'm not sure if any of them are doing this, but its certainly an option.
4945  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 27, 2018, 11:06:49 AM
Correlated to the report badge topic, it would be nice to have general aggregated report statistics alongside the general forum statistics.  A list of top reporters could be another feature, but we’ve seen members comment that they would not like to see a report badge on their profile so showing up on a list would not be to their likes either and may act as a deterrent for reporting in some cases.

General statistics on reporting could:
-   Show how the overall reporting effort pays off.
-   May act as an incentive to reporting (alongside the badge concept).
-   May act (wishful thinking here) as a discouragement for spammers.

It could be generalized, and not show specific users, but the amount of reports that are being made site wide or for specific sections per day. Avoiding anything which could identify users that are reporting. I'm guessing there's a lot more actions made by moderators that whats being reported to them.
4946  Other / Meta / Re: Temporary ban, permaban, nuke, what are reasons? on: July 27, 2018, 05:43:32 AM
I have a question for mods: People who come here to sell illegal stuff here, be it pirated content or be it drugs, will they be perma banned?
Generally no. Illegal threads are only removed if they outright illegal everywhere. But, for example someone selling marijuana isn't going to get banned, because its legal in certain places. Generally, its up to the user that's trading to determine whether they can get in trouble for it or not.

I want to know, for how many spam messages one account can be banned?
This is also pretty situational. At least for me. It really depends on what type of spamming they are doing. But, even if I recognize they are bots or users that copy and paste I generally take the side of caution, and only nuke them if they are continuously doing it.
4947  Other / Meta / Re: Global Moderators fired? on: July 27, 2018, 05:32:20 AM
You know a lot about this even after being a non-mod! And how do you track mod payments!!
I'm not sure if this was sarcasm or not. But, thats hilariousandco's alternate account. He's a global. You can easily track mod payments by looking at the address that they have on their profiles. Its really not a lot.

Alright, I like the handshake icons a lot. That might be a more friendly icon than the nuke icon. Shaking hands could represent a few things too such as saying thanks, but also helping each other out. Nice one BTCforJoe.
4950  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 26, 2018, 04:32:18 PM
@sncc

I'm liking the Irish feel of the four leaf clover, and the others. I guess it doesn't really represent reporting, but definitely something that looks cool.

Agreed!!!! Another one of those achievements you can have and be proud of here in the forum. Having that badge and showing off you are contributing in the forum by cleaning up some worthless garbage is some of the goals you can have here, the big benefactors here are the ones who have already been cleaning and reporting posts even without this kind of appreciation to begin with.
Yeah, it's pretty amazing to see a community pull together, and actively dedicate hours of their time to report. I'm a big fan of rewarding these select few that have dedicated their time, and I think a badge is probably the best way to go about it.
4951  Other / Meta / Re: Account as collateral - How it reflects the forum rule? on: July 26, 2018, 02:14:20 PM
Account collateral isn't a bad collateral at all.
I doubt a Lengedary user would want to waste his account for example for a 50$ loan when most signature campaigns here pay them 100$+/week

Its bad because you don't know their circumstances. For example, some one not planning on ever returning might see $50 as a good deal for their account. Its just not good collateral, because if it does fall through then you can't offload the account, and recuperate your losses.
4952  Other / Meta / Re: Default Ranking-Up System as a Compliment to the current Merit System on: July 26, 2018, 01:57:58 PM
I can see a bright spot in his proposal: loyalty to the forum. Most shitposters and spammers come here because of bounties. But ICOs is just a trend and will fall into decay soon. A great number of bounty hunters will leave the forum follow that. Besides, OP also stated out that this default ranking-up system co-exists with current Merit system. I don't think a shitposter is willing to wait 11 and a half years to become a Legend. If he does, his patient is worth it.

ICOs will always be popular because there's a way for both the developers, and those participating to earn a mad amount of profit. Unfortunately, most of the popular projects aren't worthy of their hype. However, there's a few which are interesting. Often though these aren't the ones that are popular, and gain traction because they usually aren't promising free coins.

Besides, from a forum point of view they don't care about ranks, and no one has to wait until legendary to participate in most of them.
4953  Other / Meta / Re: Account as collateral - How it reflects the forum rule? on: July 26, 2018, 01:38:16 PM
This shows the importance of not accepting collateral at a value the lender is not confident he can sell quickly for the amount lent, plus interest, plus the value of his time selling the collateral. A smart lender will be familiar enough of the market of whatever he is accepting as collateral to know how much he can sell whatever he is accepting as collateral, and lending out sufficiently less than a quick liquidation value so the borrower has sufficient incentives to repay his loan. In other words, the lender should only lend out so much based on the collateral he is receiving so he will profit if the borrower defaults on the loan.
My stance on it is an account should not be accepted under any circumstance anymore. I guess there's a valid reason if you believe that the person highly values the account, but you never know what sort of situation they are in financially, and it doesn't really mean much. There's just better ways to go around it.

You could also run into problems from a moderation point of view if an admin isn't aware its changed hands, and the user that gave it to you for collateral gets banned it could be a problem.
4954  Other / Meta / Re: Should merit system really exist? on: July 26, 2018, 01:29:17 PM
why should you care about your forum rank unless you are here to make money from signature campaigns

I guess it comes with other benefits. However, the vast majority are wanting to rank up for earning potential. Although, there are legitimate other reasons to want a higher rank. Especially, the lower ranked members wanting a slightly higher rank. People are oddly motivated by having a avatar for example. I guess it gives them some sort of identity.
4955  Other / Meta / Re: BCT have gone a little QUIET. on: July 26, 2018, 01:27:16 PM
Introduction of merit system on the forum have reduced the number of shit posts as well as newbies and multiple account makers.
Nah, its not reduced the amount of spam that's being made. Its just not being rewarded like it used to with the old activity, and ranking up system. The merit system hasn't really reduced anything other than the amount of shit posters ranking up.
4956  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 26, 2018, 11:58:28 AM
= (5000 good reports) , I still think it's a tree and not a nuke thing. Cheesy

Yeah, it should probably be tied to good reports rather than total amount. Just like the "your report history" page. Although, regarding the mushroom cloud/tree it definitely looks like a mushroom cloud to me.

However, that particular one might be confused with a volcano perhaps.
4957  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 26, 2018, 12:05:48 AM
But I want a mushroom cloud and only have about 1200 good reports  Sad  Angry  jk

I wouldn't mind that, I like that it's kinda unique!
Damn. I guess your going have to report out of your jurisdiction then Wink

Nah, I don't care too much what limits are on it, but I definitely do want something like the mushroom cloud. Looks great.

Hey, I had no clue that mods have a real nuke button for nuking idiotic bots. Not fair, yo mod, share that.
It's nothing special. Just says "nuke". Hey theymos can we have the nuke button as a mushroom cloud at the very least? Tongue
4958  Other / Meta / Re: Account as collateral - How it reflects the forum rule? on: July 26, 2018, 12:02:05 AM
My thought on offering an account as collateral is that it could be looked on as
account selling by stealth.

If I really want to sell my account I could apply for a loan and offer the account
as collateral and just not pay the loan back so in effect I have sold my account!

On the issue of selling an account received as collateral, I dont have an issue.
I these transactions are allowed the lender has to retrieve their funds and the
buyer of the account can potentially rank up.

This has happened in the past no doubt in my mind. Even, though I don't have any specific threads to pull up this is definitely still going on. In fact Vod, and a few others have been trying to protect against this for as long as I remember now.
4959  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 25, 2018, 11:57:04 PM
Yep, looks like a mushroom cloud to me. Not quite what I had in mind, but definitely one of the better ones suggested in my own opinion. Maybe, only having one mushroom cloud for a higher report number, and not for all of the thresholds.

It sticks out so I think it's better than the higher amounts of reports rather than 300 etc.
4960  Other / Meta / Re: Account recovery. Signed BTC address pmed to Cyrus- waiting for action! on: July 25, 2018, 07:19:28 PM
then they should hire more personal to handle this. Afterall i have paid some hard earned money to get this retarded evil fee removed- why did I have to pay it? no idea, I have done nothing wrong. and the only reason I paid was to be able to get my account unblocked. basically if they know it takes months to do that, they they shouldnt charge anything at all.
It's an option, and I believe some members of the community have offered their support. Its all down to theymos though whether he wants to make this a higher priority than it is now, and trusts certain members to carry out the job. The account has been banned though.
