4921  Other / Meta / Re: How recognized are you in the bitcointalk world? on: August 03, 2018, 01:49:45 PM
even I was inactive for a long time I am still at #272. That made my day Cheesy
I've also been inactive for a few months in the past.

I expected my rank to drop, but it actually went UP to 2nd place!
I smell corruption within the system Wink

I don't recognise most of the members in the first few hundred. Maybe I should look around Bitcoin Talk a bit more. Also, I put nullius on ignore. I thought he was just here for a bit of ego massaging, and not for the benefit of the forum, but obviously I haven't read most of his later posts, so perhaps I misunderstood his motives.
I guess it's using statistics rather than actual viewpoints of the public. So the data is always going to be a little skewed.

Yes, of course! It is possible to send 300 reports in 1 day!

Possible, but not many users are willing to do it. I guess with the incentive of badges it will increase the likelihood of users that didn't report before to start too, but that's only a good thing in my opinion.

More badges can be added for higher amounts once we start seeing more people earn the current badges though.

4927  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: July 29, 2018, 11:53:25 PM
So I just gained access to my report log. This is going to be helpful when reporting those clumps of garbage I stumble open from time to time.

I must say it's been nice having some feedback/conversations with some of the Mods along the way. I appreciate that some have the time to reach out and explain a particular action they may be taking, despite them being in no way obligated to do so.

Thanks again Welsh for bringing the log to my attention as it became the tool I could look forward to receiving and putting to use.

I try to message users whenever If I think they need an explanation or some reminder. However, it can pretty difficult to contact everyone, and my inbox gets bombarded with messages. I'm thinking of dedicating a time at the end of each week to reply to the more important messages.

The report history feature is a nice one though I admit. Gives you some feedback on your reporting habits, and does promote improvement.

Well, this thread seems to be working in increasing the amount of reports being made from my observation. Unless, Sundays are normally like this. I woke up to around 500 reports, and they were still being made as I was dealing with them. I also had to step away, and some other moderator stepped in, and I still returned to quite a few hundred later on.
4929  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: July 29, 2018, 01:21:10 AM
I was just wondering if mods will delete a topic that I started, and if they will also delete a locked topic started by someone if I reported it. Both of these topics are on archival section. There are also locked thread, and only the word "delete" or "please delete" is posted, why mods are not deleting those threads?

Personally, I move things to the archive section if they have been edited or received a few replies. Often users tend to try to cover up their threads by editing it to nothing. If they have edited it within 10 minutes, and it doesn't show its been edited, and hasn't received many replies I'll just remove it instead.

To my knowledge there's no real guideline on this, but this what I like to do personally. This way I'm not removing threads from existence so that anyone that saw the thread before it was edited can reference if they wanted too. I guess it also depends on the topic. If it's a sensitive topic I might opt to sending it to archival instead of deleting it even if it doesn't fill the criteria above.

4931  Other / Meta / Re: Beginners (altcoin) board? on: July 28, 2018, 02:58:56 PM
Yeah, I agree. The altcoin section really does need to have a few other categories to better organize all the threads that get posted there. At the moment most threads are being lost because the sheer amount of threads in one section. Most of these aren't worthy of deletion, but don't really fit the section 100%.
4932  Other / Meta / Re: Please autoban this spam bot promotion! on: July 28, 2018, 02:32:06 PM
I think I might of nuked this guy before even seeing this thread. He kept posting this bullshit all over the place. I believe they have already tried with other accounts since though.
4933  Other / Meta / Re: Need explanation from moderator who deleted my post (2) 4 days ago on: July 28, 2018, 10:13:24 AM
I did not repost anything neither I replied anything in that thread since my post was removed.  Wth?
You've made this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4745443.msg42976394#msg42976394

Probably what mprep was referring too.
4934  Other / Meta / Re: Need explanation from moderator who deleted my post (2) 4 days ago on: July 28, 2018, 08:18:08 AM
@marlboroza, Welsh is also a moderator of that board, you can PM him to have your answer.
I'm not a dedicated moderator in the Bounties section, and thus I can only deal with newbie accounts there.
4935  Other / Meta / Re: Disable signatures/bounties til a user reaches full member status. on: July 27, 2018, 10:56:14 PM
Regarding the " full Member rule" , dont you think that it could force another type to spam to start growing - bounties can tell users to iclude their ICo in the post?
As in advertising within the post? Yeah, that wouldn't be allowed, and the posts would be at the very least removed. Advertisements on threads are only accepted in rare circumstances on particularly substantial threads, and I believe it requires theymos' approval too.
4936  Other / Meta / Re: Lets go deeper in "brand new" and " newbie" statistics on: July 27, 2018, 10:18:54 PM
This is an interesting find. How about deleting accounts with no activity for years ?
Its probably not needed. I don't see any real benefit other than space, but I don't think that's too much of a problem for theymos. I guess it does skew the forum statistics a little bit, but I don't think that justifies it. I don't really see too many benefits of doing it.

Maybe, later down the line things will change, and theymos will start pruning old accounts, but I think I remember this being discussed before, and it was ruled out for a few reasons. I can't seem to find that thread though.
4937  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 27, 2018, 10:12:26 PM
I think I agree with theymos here after seeing the amount of creative ideas for badges I think we need to find more reasons to have badges, and I'm excited to see what comes of the courses, and how it will tie in with the badges.
4938  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: July 27, 2018, 09:47:36 PM
I don't know whether to give you my congratulations or condolences for your ascension to mod-hood, but I do know that altcoins needs all the mod help it can get!  Tongue

Yep, and anyone that's willing to help me by reporting anything that they think needs to be reported would be much appreciated. Settling in has been a little bit iffy, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of things.
4939  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 27, 2018, 04:59:11 PM
I was thinking along the lines of "tally marks", so maybe just a few scratches on the wall, 5 for lowest rank, 3x5 for highest rank.

I'm not good at producing graphics at all, so I'll just link a picture to show what I mean, this is most likely copyrighted etc., so I don't suggest we use it, but somebody should take the idea further.

This could be a cool thing to do, and is easy to add up to in the future when more people have higher amounts of good reports. You could award 1 mark per 1000 or something. I doubt too many people are going to have high amounts which would lead to it looking unsightly.
4940  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 27, 2018, 04:34:20 PM
For selfish purposes, I think it would be nice to have an icon for those with 3,000 good reports.

It also might be beneficial to have a special sub for those with 1000 or more good reports that can be used similarly to how the staff sub is used, to report spammers, identifying trends, ban requests etc.
It would be deserted. Just like the donators, and staff forum. Probably don't need another section. Its a good idea in principle, but some users are already doing it themselves in the Meta section now anyway, and its not like its disruptive or anything.
