That's the reason why I haven't reported these kind of posts. I am sure my report history which consisted of around 350 reports didn't have even a single "Good Project" post. It's literally a waste of time for us reporting these posts and the mods handling these reports. At some times the mods would even get annoyed with these reports. A spambot is created for the sole purpose of just posting "Good/Great Project" and bumping up their thread to the top. Anyways I will start my work from today or most probably tomorrow in reporting the users. Deleting the whole ANN would just delete all the newbies spams in one go.
I won't get annoyed if you do report them individually. Although, I would say try, and check whether they are offering an incentive to post. Sometimes though its not certain that the thread owner is behind it because they post it on external sites, and you can't 100% verify that its them behind it, and not a competitor. Under this situation I would just remove the spam comments. Alternatively, just report one, and say something like "more of the same". I'll take a look at the other comments when I have spare time then.

I am still waiting.
I have paid the idiotic "evil fee" although I didnt do anything wrong and now I would like to get my moneys worth. this shouldnt take longer than 5 minutes!
cyrus/theymos probably receive hundreds of messages per day. cyrus has previously stated that account recoveries can be quite complex, and require a lot of investigation. There's currently a huge backlog, and you'll likely be waiting longer.

I'm not too sure how frowned upon it is to sell accounts that you've received through lending as collateral. I've seen quite a few high-trusted members in the past that sold accounts that they received through lending w/out any repercussions.
Yeah, a few years ago it was kind of accepted. At least it wasn't enforced like it was today. However, these days I think users have become aware of the problems with selling these accounts, and are now actively fighting against it via the trust system. A few high ranked members have been tagged recently even when selling accounts received through collateral.

I understand that part however my question was about the afterwards, precisely if they default... This become an alt of mine? Let's say I will not sale it since selling accounts are unofficially (I guess) prohibited.
Probably. If it's provable that the account has changed hands then any rules that you break will likely have an effect on that. Your unlikely to get an official answer on this though. Probably case by case.

Done, the internet detective looks pretty good on smaller size, i kinda like it. And the meme . I would of said I liked this, but the mushroom clouds linked above are just too good to pass up on I think. At the very least I would like to see the mushroom cloud as one of the higher up icons. Maybe, add another one at 10,000 or something insane like 100k. I'm sure a few years from now we'll see users hitting that...

I personally don't like the "cop" theme (I don't want to be seen as a cop hehe). I also think we can come up with something more unique than check marks or badges or stars (no offense intended).
Fedora, white hat, top hat is pretty good. But I think something that other forums don't have would be cooler!
Maybe the mushroom cloud could be black for 300, half red for 1k and full red for 5k!
Yeah, the cop theme is so so. Although, I wouldn't mind it too much. I'm not sure what other forums use, because believe it or not this is one of the only forums that I used regularly. I guess the fedora hat would be a popular one. I do like the mushroom cloud idea though. Even, if its just a colored version at 5k reports.

Just a question, What is this report badges for? Does it affect the ranking system? If yes, Iam sure that lots of user will do reporting excessively even if the reported replies is useful for everyone.
What are the consequences if you do not maintain the report counts?
It's a way of showing appreciation for reporting. Not only that, but certain individuals are motivated by status gain, and badges are a way of motivating these individuals to report more. Its exactly the reason why online courses use badges as a reward. It might sound a little silly if you don't care too much about status, and others perception of you. But, some people do.

Stars are fine, and Flying Hellfish of the mushroom cloud is an interesting one. However, I would personally refrain from using any types of ticks for the badge. How about a white hat or something?

if this is implemented I hope there is a way to hide this badges in my country having a report reward is a bad image. it's called "sumbungero "which is a negative image for some of us. this is one of the rewards I shame to show.
I'm sure theymos has already considered the fact that many users won't want to be labeled as a "snitch" or "Sumbungero". It will very likely be optional. Probably be best that it was turned off by default too.

No that is not something I want. I have a 100% report rate because I report stuff i find inappropriate either way. This was a suggestion how to involve those who have the time and are willing to participate because they see rule breakers and spam all around.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day this is too easy to abuse, and doesn't represent what the merit system was introduced for. You could be good at picking out reportable posts, but make horrible ones yourself. Plus, theymos is already looking to introduce report badges which should offer enough of an incentive for most users.
|
|
|
It's a pretty big change, though. Are there any downsides people can think of? Any potential for abuse, etc?
Not a downside per say, however instead of manually deleting it yourself you can just report it. Self moderation takes away from freedom of speech a lot of the time, and I would prefer if threads were kept the way they are now, and have an option to make it self moderated. At least you know what to expect in that thread then. But, if its regarding spam, and other posts breaking the rules it doesn't take that much more time to report it.

Not really! I have a thread started a thread here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2971165.msg30527846#msg30527846 where I gave merits for finding alts, connecting accounts etc. a similar approach to OP's idea. I don't think everybody is capable of writing "great posts" and that shouldn't stop them from ranking up on the forum. Obviously, by this, I don't mean they should continue spamming the forum. There should be an equal opportunity for them to rank-up. Although this shouldn't be done officially, it can be subjectively done depending on how one would like to spend their s-merits. That's what the merit system was introduced for though. Demonstrating the quality of someones posts. I'm not personally against rewarding merit for those who find alt accounts or bust scams, because it takes some investigation work, and as long as they show that its very likely going to be a quality post.

|
I don't see a solution for this situation now. I will keep reporting and see if what else comes up...
A lot of the time these types of threads that are subject to these kinds of posts, and activity are offering an incentive to post. This can sometimes be difficult to find out as several projects put this behind a registration now. However, anyone that finds threads offering an incentive to post, and can provide as much detail as possible will earn my respect. Not always though. If I can't find any evidence of it then I'll just remove the posts individually.

Rule is the rule,no more excuses and apologizes. You are no more allowed to post here because you got permaban for plagiarism.
They are allowed to post in Meta about their ban. But, that's all they are allowed to do. I do believe that the email included in the message isn't monitored anymore or at least that's the assumption that I've made based on other threads. So, it's fine to create a thread here on it. Doesn't mean it will be unbanned though.
|
|
|
As long as they have a point then its usually not a problem. Unfortunately, if you are easily offended by 'bad' language then this forum isn't going to be the best place for you as it encourages freedom of speech.
If it turns into a "my dick is bigger than yours" argument its likely off topic.

I know from a moderation stand point its far from quiet. You only have to look at the modlog to verify this. I haven't had too much time to read, and reply on the forum as before though. Settling in, and all that.
