61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin miners extorting people that are making transaction? on: December 21, 2023, 03:42:50 PM
It's not an extortion scheme but it's not a good thing for many people, it's like an exploit scheme more than anything but then again, we can't blame miners for going with all this even if it's a dogshit times for doing transactions due to ordinals, they're trying to get as much profit as they can while halving hasn't arrived yet. Your friend is lucky OP, he's only paying 10 dollars for the transaction meanwhile I'm still sitting on my bitcoins in Binance waiting for the fixed transaction fee to go down, the amount that I'm paying is enough to buy myself a novel so I'm waiting for the opportunity that it finally goes much lower, losing sleep waiting for the tx fees to go down.
62  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The risk and reward of having Bitcoin on: December 21, 2023, 03:10:47 PM
There is a saying that what ever had an advantage also had a disadvantage, why am saying this is because most people especially the newbie's thinks when having Bitcoin the situation is always win win win. So I will be listing a few of the advantages and disadvantages of having it.
disadvantage of having it

*The high volatility attach to it can be very risky.

* It's not generally accepted by all.

* It can be stolen if your system is hacked.

* It's almost near impossible to retrieve if sent to the wrong address.
Argument to disadvantage 1: Volatility can be to your advantage, volatility means that you can get in because the price is going down sometimes and then going up sometimes which means that you can afford it if you can wait and you also don't need to worry about the risk of volatility if you're in bitcoin for the long-term hodling, you're always going to win in the long-term with bitcoin.

Argument to disadvantage 2: It's not really a disadvantage because that's what makes it sought after because it's prohibited sometimes. The best analogy I can think of is drugs, the more we restrict the supply the more the demand will pay for a higher price.

Argument to disadvantage 3: It's not the fault of bitcoin, it's a me problem. If you're careless about your security, you're likely to be vulnerable to attacks.

Argument to disadvantage 4: Near impossible isn't the word and even with that word, that means that you can still get it back unless it's sent to a burn address which is impossible.

advantages of having it

* It can make you filthy rich during the bull run.

* It decentralized, no third party like banks and financial institution.

* It's a self custodian asset, the privacy is priceless.

* It's very accessible at any given point in time.

I don't know if I missed some that I didn't mention.
Clarification to advantage 1: It will depend on how much you've invested, it will definitely make you filthy rich if you've invested hundreds of thousands and the price gone up to about a 1000% but if you've invested only in satoshis but a constant one, it's not going to make you that rich.

Clarification to advantage 3: It's pseudonymous, not that anonymous as many like to think. But still it's enough to keep your privacy.

Clarification to advantage 4: In a technology oriented world it is definitely but in a desert or a mountain with no electricity, not really.
63  Economy / Speculation / Re: A big buying opportunity might be on the horizon on: December 21, 2023, 02:25:31 PM
If the SEC denies the approval of ETF, I also think that the sentiment of the market will be affected.  We might see some action here where those who wanted to buy BTC at a cheaper price may probably spread FUD to fuel the disappointment of traders and investors thus creating some dump in the market.  If that happens, then the thread title might have a huge probability of happening.

But I think it would be temporary because halving is also on the horizon, and it is the major catalyst for transitioning from a bear market to a bull market.
With a lot of people already preparing for both outcomes, it's safe to say that it's not going to affect the market massively because people have already covered both possibilities. I'm just speculating that everyone's have their bases covered though because me, I already did what I just said, I have an adequate amount of bitcoin already and I also have a large stash of fiat ready to buy bitcoins in case it goes down dramatically and get as much value and bang for my buck. Definitely a temporary thing if it happens, that's why I think that it's a good thing to have your fiat and bitcoin ready whatever happens, you're going to be fine.
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SATOSHI IS BACK with satoshi@vistomail.com BUT ITS SCAM on: December 21, 2023, 01:34:55 PM
Could have been a dangerous scam to be honest with control of that email but anybody in bitcoin for a while would need to see a Satoshi claim proved cryptographically. Nobody has ever been able to do that, notoriously Faketoshi Wright.

Also the main clue that this is nonsense is that Satoshi would never promote some cheap, nasty thing like OTOM. Bitcoin is his baby, his art, his masterpiece. He would never come back like this.
Yes a lot of people would know that they're going to need the proof that it's the real Satoshi but those "a lot of people" are just a drop of water to the current ocean of crypto enthusiast meaning that there's bound to be some people that won't know that there's going to be a specific proof to confirm the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto which means there's a lot of people that's going to fall for this scam which is a good thing for scammers because not everyone knows who he is and that he's gone forever. Of course, the real Satoshi won't promote something cheap but the people that didn't know him wouldn't know that and they'll think that Satoshi is real and that this is a legitimate new token from the Bitcoin founder.
65  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Local Base Or International Based Online Casino on: December 20, 2023, 04:53:34 PM
Dude, fruit games been a staple of illegal gambling in the country for a really long time, it's as popular as the arcade horse racing and has been the subjects of many police raids because they're illegal. That game's not going to last long because either the authorities are gathering more evidences or the protector of this operation isn't going to be happy with just a small paycheck monthly. When it comes to this kind of stuff, I'd just go for international based because it's likely to be a problem for authorities and the games there are more fun compared to this games which I've played already when I was younger.
66  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: do you lose on slots? on: December 20, 2023, 03:52:20 PM
I'm not really a fan of superstition so I don't agree that it helps you in a karma way to tip the people near you when you hit a win, all slots are programmed to do the same thing and the probability that they have in there are all the same, unless the machine Gods and machine spirit is real, then those stuff can't be true about slots and if they're true then you're still fucked because you're the unlucky one.
I remember that, 15 years ago, when I played Second Life (beautiful memories) there were slot machines in some lands I frequently visited, and that I gave them a try. I think that they were badly programmed, because the more I played, the more I won, which is not sustainable for the service provider.

It is true that, as Lindens (the in-game currency) were difficult to buy at that time, I had just a few bucks, so I didn't make a great profit. Chances are that for higher amounts the outcome would've been different, or they were simply bad programmed. But it was a long time ago and I don't think modern slots online have that kind of flaws.
Wow, Second Life is that old? I just see their ads recently and didn't know that they're that old. Haven't played it long enough to explore it, just do some chats with other players and some trolling and that's about what I did there and finally just dropped playing it. That slot machine wins is definitely a programming bug, it's most likely as you've suspected.
67  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best exchange to start trading? on: December 20, 2023, 02:59:21 PM
First of all, we should all do our due diligence on the exchanges before we trade anything. Because if we trade in any wrong exchange while trading then we will have more chance of losing money. So it is very important for us where we are doing exchange.
You don't have to worry about that if you're using Binance or KuCoin or Okex or Huobi because those are some of the most reputable exchanges out there that has hundreds of thousands if not millions of user daily that trades in billions of dollars so I don't think worrying about your money being lost is a worry that needs to be addressed if you're in an exchange that there's not a lot of people. You don't have to research on the exchanges I've mentioned because they're reputable and the only thing you might want to look for is the coins available in their platform for trading because crypto A might be available in KuCoin but not in the other exchanges.
68  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Arbitrage as Business on: December 20, 2023, 01:58:57 PM
It would be a difficult thing to do because you're going to need someone to be in the other country to sell the bitcoin for you and that takes a lot of trust to do especially most of the people that do this have millions to start their business so it's not a waste of their time. I would say that it's a great avenue to make money but the expenses and the effort that you need to pull this off is going to be difficult and isn't this kind of thing been done before and the people that have done it got banned in the exchanges that they're doing their arbitrage trading?
69  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Actionable steps to be 10x better than you're on: December 20, 2023, 01:11:23 PM
Yes OP, they're all really good things to have in you as a person but I got to say, you should be more different than the others who's saying these stuff because they're all the same but the problem is that they tell you what you need to have and need to do but they don't tell you how you can do it or the steps to achieve those things, make it make sense at the very least OP.
70  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: So how does this ordinals minting work exactly? on: December 20, 2023, 12:24:43 PM
There are dedicated websites that make Ordinals inscriptions easy without having much technical knowledge. There is usually an interface with the option to mint BRC-20, add text, or attach an image to your transaction.

Depending on the type of inscription you want to create some metadata is added to the witness field of a transaction. Bitmap is a type of text inscription that allows you to claim ownership of a Bitcoin block in the Ordinals metaverse if I understand correctly.
So basically it's like some kind of NFT but in this case it's not like NFT but like a vandalism on the NFT and you claim that vandalism? Is thst how ordinals inscription is like? Kind of weird and now I can understand why I hate ordinals, it's because I don't have love for NFT or anything like that. Does this contribute anything to the bitcoin network anything at all or not?  It's just some sort of vanity for some people to throw away their money?
71  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: December 19, 2023, 04:51:37 PM
That's a difficult to follow timeframe because gentrification is expensive, it will replace thousands of industries that have been in operation for 100+ years so the change will definitely meet some resistance from those old industries that are going to be affected. I mean look at the whaling industry, when the demand for whale oil plummeted because of electricity, a lot of industry was affected then it's going to be the same for the current automotive industry. I wouldn't say that it's a dream though because progress is going to happen no matter what and I just believe that it's not going to be in the year 2035 that we're going to see that from ever happening.
72  Economy / Economics / Re: Sea Piracy, it's effect on the local economy on: December 19, 2023, 03:53:21 PM
Piracy isn't that profitable anymore, UN or was it NATO have launched the operation Ocean Shield to protect cargo ships from pirates and so far it's effective because piracy rates in the hotbeds of piracy are lowering throughout the years and not to mention that cargo companies are investing in security be it the soft kind of security like barbwires or anti rope railings to lethal security like guards armed to the tooth or mercenaries with their own boats to guide these cargo ships, it's a bad time to be a pirate right now even if we believe it to be a good way to improve the economy of the pirate's country of origin. Most of the money that they're getting isn't going back to the economy, most likely it goes back to guns, drugs and other contrabands.
73  Economy / Economics / Re: How to gain money on: December 19, 2023, 01:18:38 PM
Get a job my guy, there's a lot of websites that are helping you with that and honestly if you really want to get money, that's the only way that's going to make you satisfied but at the same time make you tired but hey, if it puts food on the table, it's nothing to scoff at. Or you can go down the dark path and commit crime, it's easy money but you're selling your soul for a really cheap price and you don't even know that yet until it's too late. Doing business seems like an okay path but not everyone can be a businessman so stick to what's going to make it easy for you to gain money.
74  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casinos and gamblers are struggling with high tx fees.? on: December 19, 2023, 11:32:04 AM
They're probably fine with it and it's not like you can't set how much tx fees you're going to pay for a transaction so casinos are probably doing just fine and players can just switch to using other crypto with a lower tx fees to prolong and sustain their gambling habit, it's unlikely for a lot of hardcore and some casual gamblers to stop due to high tx fees so I don't see any struggle maybe a little down on the number of players but there's still some consistency in my opinion in players that are active.
75  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Has gambling ever whispered you with different strategic prediction measures? on: December 19, 2023, 10:56:07 AM
I haven't tried that before and this isn't a movie, this is real life so I got to say that it's definitely not a thing for me to do any changes to how I approach gambling. I feel like it's wrong to deprave yourself of one of your senses to try and get even, like dude you got the complete senses then at least use all of them, depravation of senses is a long game so it's going to be difficult for you to do it anyway which makes it useless. OP probably have seen that gambling scene in John Wick 4 where Donnie Yen's blind character is playing a game of poker and he knows the cards really well by feeling it.
76  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: who Want To Bet On 2024 USA elections? on: December 19, 2023, 10:11:37 AM
~
Well, I'm not sure if it is a good or a bad thing, but Trump is definitely more "mainstream TV worthy" than the current president of the US.

A lot of people right now care more about what is happening to the Trump case than what is happening in the US itself.

It's a bit crazy I think, but these are the times we are living in.
A lot of people seems to be clamoring to have Trump become the next president, hopefully we get to see that from happening. The US housing is just getting worse and I think that it's that time where a businessman has to get in to manage that problem, not to mention that Biden is just too old to be clinging on to the office. Regarding the Trump case, I think that it's fizzled out entirely. It wouldn't have been this crazy if we didn't let it get this far, if the people were vocal about their problems that the government is pumping out then we would probably see a different path for ourselves but we ended up with all this crazy stuff because we let them go by and we didn't do a thing and now it's too late.
77  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers trickily claims they wins the bet while they never did. on: December 19, 2023, 09:26:10 AM
I think that everyone here knows that, it's a basic etiquette on the Internet to not trust what you're reading and always take everything with a grain of salt because there's no way that everyone here tells the truth when you can be anonymous. To me, I just let them be like that anyway, their fantasies about how to gamble is a thing that keeps them alive and you don't have to worry too much about them if you can think for yourself, their advice would be useless when you're not following anything blindly anyways.

But in regards to all these tricks and lies that some people are saying about their gambling journey, remember that a lot of gamblers have similar experience on some games in most occasions so take that in mind before calling them out because you never know and there's also the fact that sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction.
78  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does match fixing concern you often? on: December 18, 2023, 11:50:30 PM
This is the reason why I dont bet on a minor league anymore, there is a risk that I may place a bet on a fixed match when betting on the minor leagues.
And when that happen, the bet will be void and the account might be marked by the system then trigger a KYC and casino blocked the account.
btw here is the example of match fixing from some sports, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_match-fixing_incidents
It's weird that they're doing a scorced earth approach to this kind of problem, the real problem is the leagues that do this but the innocent players get the boot too. I guess they really don't want any person that's involved in match fixing to reap the benefits, I'm sure that it's not just the minor leagues that have this kind of problem, big leagues probably is just more sneakier and the people that they let in on the knowledge of a fix are much fewer. To answer the question, I'm really not concerned because I'm not in it and the people that get caught in match fixing are always going to get busted so whatever they do to catch these incidents, just keep on doing it because it works.
79  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Risk management and responsible gaming on: December 18, 2023, 11:02:45 PM
yup, that gambler needs to give a strong push for control by himself first. Then, support from others afterward. It's also useless if support comes from close people, friends or family. If he still wants to continue betting and forgets about risk management. If it happens, then be prepared to face bad things that can destroy his life. When they experience this, then any advice will no longer be able to help them and they have to really try on their own.
You're right and those stuff that you're saying is obvious already but I have to say that it's not really a good idea to say that external support is useless even if the person that's addicted or needs help in stopping from gambling doesn't want to help themselves. As much as we want all to emphasize that the right thing to happen is for a person to have the will to stop themselves in gambling, a constant support from their loved ones is a good thing even during those denial periods because that could be a factor in speeding up the process because the person that's being supported would find it in their heart to give them what their family wants and try to do a recovery.

Regarding the help from the government, I don't know where you're from OP but it's such a good government if they're doing this because I haven't seen any program like the ones that you've mentioned here in my country or if there's one then they're not heavily promoted to reach more audiences which I think should be the goal for these types of program even if it's a low effort one as long as someone's able to know about the programs.
80  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which type of gambling have more gambling addicts ? on: December 18, 2023, 10:21:29 PM
Well, I did ask the question that you've got in Google and I got the results that it's electronic kind but it seems that you haven't mentioned it so I assume you don't consider it or are making your own choices as to which one has the most gambling addicts. I can agree with the result that I've seen on the web because electronic or online casinos are more accessible to people compared to the physical ones which is kind of an hassle because you've got to go there physically and spend some time and effort to get there. In conclusion to this question, I think that it's the convenience that's being the factor as to which one's got more people getting addicted so if electronic gambling isn't the one that you're looking for then the one that's most convenient of the 3 options that you've given is the likely one to have more gambling addicts.

Here's the link to the top search of that question.
