1  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Pay off DEBT by do Gambling? think again before you loss more on: February 25, 2024, 09:07:59 AM
Stupidest thing that you can do honestly, what did you expect that you're like those other people that was able to gamble away all of their money and win to payback their debts? That's probably the easiest mistake that you can avoid but it's funny to me that there's still some people that are falling for this kind of trick, I guess when you're so desperate you don't think right and you're moving and deciding things too fast because you feel like it's the end of the world for you so you take the riskiest but the shortest route to getting out of debt, it's sad but you can't be too soft on people that commit these mistakes, they're probably in too deep and they know that they have to get into it.
2  Economy / Economics / Re: The increase of dollar affecting underdeveloped countries economy on: February 23, 2024, 08:16:26 AM
It actually depends. A weak currency doesn't necessarily mean the country won't anymore engage in global trades. As a matter of fact, a weak currency could actually be designed on purpose. It could actually be intended by way of a policy to be used as a strategy in order to increase trades, exports in particular. In which case, since the currency is weak, exports are cheaper, making them more attractive for buyers compared to their competitors. Of course, there's also a need to balance since a weak currency would also mean imports are expensive.
But that's not really going to benefit the country in the long run, weak currency in global trades means that you've got a cheap export tariffs or something trade related but you're not really benefiting from it because you're paying a premium for those exports which is going to go to your local market much more expensive because you have to get some profits out of the payments that you've made in trades so in the end, the only one that's benefiting from this is the people that are on the outside of the country and not the people inside.
3  Other / Meta / Re: (Any Guesses?) Are there many real (unpaid) people still posting here at BCT? on: February 23, 2024, 07:02:10 AM

I have never heard of this, or thought about this. That someone would deliberately create a new account to raise shitty topics in order to easily complete post quota. I mean this forum is wide enough for anyone who wants to drop 50 posts a day. Besides, I have seen people who discuss in threads above 10 pages and get paid even when it is possible that those posts won't generate any view. So, what's the need for creating new accounts just to raise topics. Well, the idea doesn't sound like something that will not happen. It is just possible.
Well, if I can think that there's a possibility that they might do this then there's a likelihood that they are really doing this, I'm more surprised with the fact that there's someone in this forum that can do 50 posts in a day, I can't even manage to do a 10 in a day and they can do 50? That person probably got no life outside of the forum because if they did then they wouldn't be churning out such ungodly amounts of posts even if they're spams and useless rants, the effort it takes is still too much.
4  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto investment vs real estate investment : Which one more dependable? on: February 17, 2024, 10:29:22 AM
I want to know what country you're from OP because I want to move there, just 2.5k USD to invest in real estate? That's either an absurd amount or the property that you're buying is in the middle of nowhere so in your case, you're probably better off with crypto investment but not just any crypto, make sure you invest in bitcoin but invest what you can afford to lose. In a broad sense, if you think about which one's more dependent, it's usually which one's got the most security and stability and crypto doesn't have that since it's a volatile investment so I'd say that real estate is more dependable, you know that the price of that property is going to grow.
5  Other / Meta / Re: Locked topics, free speech on: February 12, 2024, 08:29:38 AM
While I'm just enjoying some Earl Dibbles Jr.  music, must someone try to quiet my voice?
To use your example of enjoying music as an analogy to free speech, you're free to enjoy that but you still have to understand not everyone likes or enjoys the music that you're listening to so the best thing that you can do is to be considerate to those that don't want to hear your music, you're free to play that but you have to respect those that don't want to hear that music.
6  Other / Meta / Re: The effect the mixer ban has had on the forum. on: February 10, 2024, 03:12:10 AM
As off-topic as it is, it is disappointing to read about the de-listing of any crypto that was being used by the community because of an actual function it provided (such as privacy) compared to many others that do not provide anything other than hype. Binance are doing what they are because of their owners wanting to remain on the right side of regulating bodies but the trade-off will affect many people.
They're a CEX after all, of course Binance will want to stay in business, I don't think they're of interest if they keep on delaying or avoiding the regulations that's being imposed on them by the government, too bad that they do delisting of these privacy coins especially Monero but I do salute their stance about privacy and that they're never compromising, love that idea that there's still people in this world that will stand on principle and not worship money.
7  Other / Meta / Re: BCT vs BTT abbreviation for this forum on: February 10, 2024, 02:30:08 AM
Both names/abbreviation make perfect sense IMO, but I believe that the majority here, including me has been accustomed to the abbreviation BTT, while the last two later “T” makes it even easier to pronounce; Therefore it will be nice to continue with the Abbreviation BTT because changing to BCT will have to take people some amount of time to master, we will even see a situation where people will still be writing BTT instead of BCT or even write BTC. I vote BTT.
I haven't been able to vote but I'm on the BCT more because for me it makes sense that it's the abbreviation, BitCoinTalk but at the end of the day, I don't think that this will matter a lot because we're all different individuals and I guess use what you're most comfortable with, what works for you sometimes doesn't work for me at all.
8  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Chess Gambling on: February 09, 2024, 04:24:02 AM
I often see chess gambling in the streets, played by some elders. Bets aren't that much and I guess those are just to add more thrill to the game itself and not primarily to promote or intensify the competition unlike with other sports such as billards (not offered by majority of the sports provider), basketball, and football matches.
This is what I was thinking too when I was writing about this post, if it can be done on the streets then it can be done online right but then I see the concerns about cheating in chess using AI, I don't think that it's going to be a problem though as there are AI detection systems out there to determine if someone's cheating and I don't think that if anyone out there would do this, they would definitely have a way to implement this so hopefully we get to see this in the future.
9  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Chess Gambling on: February 07, 2024, 12:19:40 PM
This isn't the one that I'm looking for, what I mean is that any chess player can play and do a PVP style of game but to join a matchmaking, they need to put a certain amount for example, you and me will each put a 0.005 btc and the total pool would be 0.01 and whoever wins between us will be getting the pot and Coinplay isn't that, it's just betting on professionals and grandmasters.
10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Chess Gambling on: February 07, 2024, 10:37:11 AM
I have been here in this forum for a long time and I have an on and off relationship with gambling and I don't know if it's because I don't search so much or there's really no one that's doing this but is there any website that offers chess matches where the winner will win the pot money that was pooled together by the two players fighting? I assume there's none of that yet but imagine the stuff that could happen when this is real, Carlsen playing for a 2 million dollars pot money against Nakamura, FIDE and WCF would definitely be mad about this if this is real.

I'd delete this thread in the case there's an existing discussion about this.
11  Economy / Gambling / Re: Betting without losing your money/no need for deposit on: February 06, 2024, 04:57:44 PM
How does a player not exactly lose money here when they have to bet a little amount of crypto? Wouldn't that still be a loss for them right? What's the games that you're offering anyway, I don't want to click on any links so I hope you can provide them and if you plan to stay in this forum to create your community, you'll be benefiting a lot when you buy a copper membership in case you want to post images.
12  Other / Meta / Re: (Any Guesses?) Are there many real (unpaid) people still posting here at BCT? on: February 05, 2024, 09:24:02 AM
If a shitposter isn't in a campaign, they're probably looking to rank up and get in one or have some other nefarious motive for cranking out generic, zero-value posts.  That's always been my view, though I don't have any data to back it up.
If you observe newbies that are posting in Bitcoin Discussion, you can probably collect a lot of data from there although I don't believe that those accounts are really newbies, the way that they post about different bitcoin related topics might look janky to us but there's some hints that most of them aren't really that totally noob when it comes to the way the forum works, I have a conspiracy that this "newbie" accounts are created so there's more topics to reply from because they've been in a lot of campaigns for so long that they're probably running out of topics to reply to.

14  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Visa Integration and the Rise of Innovative Payment Solutions on: February 04, 2024, 09:55:51 AM
Last year was characterized by harsh crypto regulations; however, crypto service providers did not relent in onboarding innovative products to ease transactions and potentially attract more users.

Despite facing drawbacks, the crypto industry has shown remarkable resilience, exemplified by the onboarding of Visa, a global payment giant. Visa has doubled down on cryptocurrency adoption by enabling a new method to exchange crypto to fiat currencies without relying on centralized exchanges. This move is commendable, especially considering the challenging business conditions.

Several exchanges, including Binance and , most recently Bitget which introduced its own credit card dubbed "Bitget Card" have rolled out their cards. This development seemingly signifies a significant marketing strategy that brings both convenience and accessibility to crypto users.

My curiosity arises from being in a region not particularly friendly towards cryptocurrencies, and I would like to understand if acquiring and using these crypto-powered cards is similar to traditional bank cards.
The regulations hasn't stopped yet, in my country Binance is going to be unusable because they've been operating without a license but that's a bullshit by the Philippines SEC, Binance has been operating just fine for a really long time and they suddenly want to shut down the operation with millions of people in the Filipino crypto community using it as their main exchange? I just hope that they lose interest again because I really don't like it when the government is on my tail with what I do in crypto, they don't have any business being in here anyway besides being part of the global adoption goal of bitcoin.

It is available on Playstore, but do not download your wallets from Playstore, it is recommended you download Electrum from the original website, and this is the link to it: https://electrum.org/
~
You simply download Electrum from the original website and install it. If you only have a mobile device, then you have to buy a hardware wallet, so you store your funds offline and in a safe environment.
Can you redirect me to the original website of Electrum, I don't want to end up downloading a fake and end up losing that bitcoin for nothing. I'm not really sure about the first website that pops up when I search "Electrum wallet" on Google.
16  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Beware of Crypto.com (difficulties cancelling debit card) on: February 03, 2024, 09:34:44 AM
This is when you want to yell at whoever is at the other end of the line out of frustration, but you'd find it frustrating too because you realized you're dealing with a bot.
Or you're dealing with an underpaid customer service representative, I always have this tendency when I ask for a support to be rude but I always try my best to be polite and courteous about the interaction even if it's a bot, I try my best to be at my best behavior.

I've heard of Crypto.com before and I thought that they're a really good site for this kind of thing, if I recall they issued this card that offers special privileges like lifetime Spotify and lifetime Netflix but that seems to be not enough and all my friends that have their card back then quit their services too.

1 star reviews from where? I remember reading low rated reviews back then on mycelium from people complaining about stuff they're at fault for lol. Wouldn't be weird if we have the same situation here.

Anyhow. Blue wallet is recommended! it's open source, feature packed and actively maintained. Trust wallet however is closed sourced which is a deal breaker for many of us. Then again, the open source alternative I could think of for multi-coin wallet is only Unstoppable Wallet which apparently appears to be prone on syncing issues -- in my case, it only happened once. Lemme link the discussion thread, see: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5436273.0
1 star reviews from users Playstore but it's overall around 4.6 stars, Blue Wallet has been recommended to me by a trusted friend so I might consider that too, that's probably the only two wallets that I've been mostly recommended by my friends because they're easy to use and they didn't have any problems using it. I might check out your recommendation too, is it available on Playstore?
~
Even for temporary storage I woulnd't consider Trust Wallet as its a closed source owne by Binance and its only a decent solution if you need a hot wallet where you plan to store no more than few hundreds of dollars worth of crypto.
As of another alternative for (temporary) bitcoin storage, why not Electrum?
I don't know how to set it up on my Android phone, can you link me a thread that will teach me how to do it, I want to use Electrum ever since but the problem is that I don't have a personal computer and I don't like installing one in Windows.
18  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance alternatives on: February 01, 2024, 05:51:33 AM
I have seen people telling that they should support local exchanges in our country like PDAX, Gcrypto, Coins.ph and Maya. But as we know, not all of them supports every cryptocurrencies that are found there. A lot of them can be found in many exchanges and as for that exchange, I've been hearing a lot with kucoin, okex and bybit. But this is still depending if the decision of our SEC will also ban and stop their operations here until they comply to any regulating laws applied on them.
I wouldn't even trust them with my bitcoin, I don't think that it's going to be a really good idea to place my bitcoins on a local exchange that will make me easily marked as a crypto enthusiast so the government can watch me behind my back, I've see GCash (Gcrypto) got their customer's funds stolen by hackers so it's not a good idea to go to that exchange even I don't care too much about my bitcoins, I'd just burn it if I would have no choice but to put it there. For temporary storage that don't aren't CEX (rejoice to the people that are right all along, you've converted me), I'll be putting my bitcoins in either TrustWallet or BlueWallet and if there's anyone here that can provide me some other wallet because I'm scared of the 1 star reviews of those two wallets.

Don't take it as a disrespect when others advice you to not store your cryptos in centralized exchanges. They give you this basic advice because when you don't have access to your coins, you don't actually own them. But since you intentionally want to store your coins on centralized exchanges, then you can use Coinbase, Kraken, OKX and the ones listed above. I think these exchanges are available in your country but you should check it yourself again.

Hardware wallets are the best option but you have to carefully choose that. At the moment, Coldcard and Passport are one of the best wallets. Keep in mind that you should never buy Ledger and probably other closed-source wallets.
I'm not taking it as a disrespect, maybe it's the frustration for me but I do welcome those but there's a sense of urgency for my inquiry so I want to disregard that as much as possible and get to the right one, I'm sorry if that came out disrespectful. I mean you did recommend me the exchange which is what I'm looking for but some of the replies just want to tell me not to do this and do that. I do know about closed-source wallets, definitely staying away from them because some of my friends have told me about it and they're really good at breaking programs.

So you're listening or choose to be as it because it gives convenience? Because I can't able to understand that you learnt storing Bitcoin in an exchange is risky but you're not concerned about losing it.

If you only have bitcoin and just install electrum wallet and store your bitcoins in it, the non custodial wallet actually gives the complete control of your funds and you can sell whenever you want just sending the funds back to exchange only paying the fee required at the time.
Correct, I'm not concerned it's not a big deal amount so I do it anyway, the convenience is a bonus. I do plan to install an Electrum wallet but I don't have my own computer yet and I want to learn how to navigate in Linux so I can be much safer so that's the deal for now but rest assured, that's what I plan to do someday with my bitcoins.
