64-bit encryption is only used for accounts that have no public key and haven't done any transactions. It is recommended to make public key and do at least one transaction. Send someone some NXT, buy an alias, basically I think any proactive usage of the account gives 256 bit protection

How do I make public key?
pay at least 1 NXT fee for any kind of transaction

Or forge a block.

CFB don't want to spread a fear or panic in market, he'll sell everything in steps, until 50000 block Smiley

What happens after 50,000blocks?

And this is why making this kind of jokes are not a good idea...

625  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 10, 2014, 12:12:24 AM
well, if you look at original stakeholders who owned 1.000.000.000, 3 days ago they owned 139,681,005 Smiley

source? this is incredible news if true.

It would be more accurate to say, that original accounts only have 139M left. Not the same.
626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 09, 2014, 12:33:09 AM
There's a thread in this forum about bugs in the code release. After my client had been attacked, I analyzed, what exactly happened and figured out, how the attacker managed to get the clients to basically crash. JLP and CfB fixed that now mostly by 0.5.3, the only thing that is left is the actual browser page. So when you see negative blocks, just refresh the tab in your browser and everything will look normal again. On the server side (communicating with other NXT clients) the server now behaves normally, even if you don't refresh your browser window.
If you want to see what kind of bugs we're finding and that are getting fixed, jump over to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=397183.0

0.5.3 been running since released, so far so good. If it's still running OK in the morning that would a new record for me. Can't wait to find out. Smiley
627  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 09, 2014, 12:17:44 AM
Do we know how to make the NXT server more stable. As it is each time it hangs, for personal use it is annoying, but not that big of a deal. Unless you are racing to the airport and can't send NXT!

What I'd like to know, what developers doing about this? Because if I know they are working on it, I can be patient, but I find it worrying that a few times this problem was bought up, it was simply brushed off as not important, or even nonexistent.

New features are important, some of them I'm very much looking forward to, but these stability issues absolutely should take priority.
628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt source code flaw reports on: January 08, 2014, 09:54:55 PM
In my opinion this is a problem that should by solved in the nxt code: ReferencedTransaction says that you can link a transcation to another and the second gets only confirmed when the first got. So we should ensure in the nxt code that this system is save.

I agree, I meant as a workaround until then.
If we can just watch the unconfirmed transactions for bets this could be really fast.
629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt source code flaw reports on: January 08, 2014, 09:45:53 PM
Could you elaborate that? I've run a simulation over the hole blockchain (like every transaction did before is a game play), and the winning odds are 50/50. You could also write me a PM I am not sure if it is the right place to discuss that here.

Thank you CfB!  Wink

ricot has just explained it.

Yes, i see the problem now. So it is better to wait for at least one confirmation right now. Anyway cool feature: Makes the assignment of bets to payments easier. But it would be really nice if it possible to improve that feature.

Maybe we could include T2 (that has T1 as ref transaction) only in a block if T1 is confirmed + the creator of the block, in which T1 got confirmed, is not equal to the sender or recipient of T2 or T1? So in the rare case when the recipient/sender of the block generates it, T2 waits for the next block. Could this solve the issue?

We are also developing some games for Nxt, and I was counting on referencedTransactions for instant bets.
How about if we make a rule in the game to invalidate (or delay, if with transparent mining we can predict who will forge next) every bet from the forger of the next block? That would make it safe?

How come there are such large jumps in trading volume for NXT? Last week, there has been a period of it being at around $400,000-ish every day. This morning I'm pretty sure it was in the $30,000 range and now it's at $150,000.

Before jan 3, there were no trading fees on dgex. That can work wonders for the volume. Just look at BTCChinas volume before and after trading fees were added.
631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 07, 2014, 01:40:46 AM
does anybody know about mcjavar?
Maybe he just fallen asleep,  it's 2:30 am where he is. Smiley
I wouldn't worry too much, it would be stupid of him to try to scam you, if I remember correctly, he is identifiable, he registered aliases with uri pointing at his personal website. (If it comes to that, I'll try to verify this info before posting.)
632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I'm dumping Nxt and here's why you should too on: January 06, 2014, 10:56:42 AM
How about we look at the OPs posts about Nxt price in chronological order:

tl;dr: NWO is trying to manipulate the price all the time.

Considering there is ONE BILLION coins dispersed among a small number of unknowns who for whatever reason cannot give their true identity (unlike Ripple or eMunie). VERY high chance of being scammed. The market is being manipulated to create a frenzy - which is sadly working.

So many people about to get burned...

I've been trying to login to dgex for 30 minutes now to dump as there is going to be a BIG crash from all of the 1,000,000+ holders looking to clean up on the late comers. Now it has been removed from coinmarketcap.com

What is going on? Did the unknown developers and the few investors run? Really concerned  Huh

What is going on with Nxt? I am trying to dump and dgex won't load due to an internal error. Anyone else getting this? It is annoying because the price is snowballing.

January 3rd is the official launch of Nxt when the open source documents are revealed. I wonder what price we will be looking at?

I think around 0.0003

Edit: Price is already rallying. We have seen over 40% in a matter of days.

One day closer to lift off  Tongue

The official Nxt launch is only days away  Shocked

Pump set. $1+ for 2014 set. Ready for take off!

We have drawn closer, only 1-2 days depending on where you live. Price has already shot up 40%+  Grin

Open source incoming! Rally has begun! Anything below .0001 is CHEAP  Grin

Yes, everyone. BUY BUY BUY. Open source will put this on parity with BTC! GO GO GO!

And now this topic.
A day from now, when price is rising, he will tell you to BUY BUY BUY.
633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] "BitBaY" Commission Shares thread! on: January 05, 2014, 10:03:29 PM
I'll take 10.
634  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] "BitBaY" Commission Shares thread! on: January 04, 2014, 10:18:46 PM
Although we are capable of launching tonight. We have decided we will launch at 9 PM US Central time tomorrow.

198 Shares still up for grabs. Post if you want them! Price goes up to 0.1 after release so grab them while you can.
Estimated ROI is ~1-2 months!

Justin, I think you need to give us a better incentive. From a risk managment standpoint it's better to wait a day.
Right now we only have a promise of a site. After the launch we can assess much better, and that's worth the 34% price increase.
If you can give us a preview, I take 20 more shares.
635  Other / Archival / Re: [VSC]Visacoin:Born for circulation--based on BTC-Gold--Project start!!! on: January 04, 2014, 07:02:05 PM
Another 29 BTC donation...

Seriously?
If this is a scam, the guy popping champagne right now.
If it's not, he'll have a problem with uneven distribution.
636  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 04, 2014, 06:02:38 PM
Without knowing where the bug is, attempts to work around it like that will only complicate the code.

There is no proof it was not a human error, which is possible when there are many transactions to be sent in manual mode.

Has dgex ever reported this error? He sent the most transactions on the network.
I mean, somehow he lost that 800k.
637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt source code flaw reports on: January 03, 2014, 09:45:01 PM
And, the devs really need to get a whitepaper together.
Among other things. As someone who has a nice amount of money invested in Nxt, I'm not that happy this days about how many thing going with Nxt.
But screaming at the devs without offering anything constructive, is less than pointless, unless he have an agenda.
And if I remember correctly, it's not even the first time he seen the code, he posted last week on btt and on reddit already about it, after he decompiled it.
So this is pretty much rehearsed bashing.
638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt source code flaw reports on: January 03, 2014, 09:32:53 PM
FrictionlessCoin, I don't know a thing about coding, so I can't make a judgement about who is right.
But what you are doing here, strongly reminds me of something. I've been a professional poker player for 10 years.
During that time I met a lot of people who were good at poker. But I was better, and when I beat them, they behaved the same way you are doing now. They were making statments about my shitty play, and how I am a lucky idiot.
They did this, because while they knew their way around a poker table, they simply weren't capable of thinging at my level.

Granted, I may be way off base here, but not from what I seen so far.
How about you do as some of the others asked, and instead of making grand statement about high school project you point out specific problems. Fundamental errors. Examples of bad logic, security flaws. Something. You know just to be ontopic for a change.
639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 03, 2014, 12:59:26 PM
I'm afraid I myself done trading on dgex. More than 1 BTC in withdrawal fees total, I'm still waiting for my BTC withdrawal from yesterday, and this disabling login without so much as a line of explanation thing really pissing me off.

But still, I don't wanna trade in Ripple. Smiley
640  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 02:38:06 PM

Going forward from this moment:

How can we be 100% sure someone coins are actually stolen? the victim could himself open an account and send the funds there....then after a period of time he then transfers the stolen funds to some new account and carries on happily ever after.

MOTIVATION: Those who have there funds stolen may get some sort of funding to compensate for their loss.  An greedy individual may take advantage of this.

Because of this reason, I think only PaulyC and newcn are eligible for some type of reimbursement/ bounties for uncovering the bogus client.

You guys need to rethink this.  The evidence shows pretty conclusively that Sparta_cuss was actually robbed and reported it before either PaulyC or newcn.  Plus Framewood beat them all to it by a couple of days.

So - we gonna create a loss fund to cover 300K NXT and counting?

Paying back stolen Nxt is not realistic. Shit happends.
However PaulyC (and for a smaller extent newcn) should (and did) get bounty for uncovering the method of the theft, saving others.
