Wo ist denn der Enthusiasmus von damals geblieben? Warum jetzt kleine Brötchen backen? weil das meiner erfahrung nach ziemlich kompliziert ist. wenn es eine grosse party sein soll brauchst du eine grössere location. also eine anmieten, aber für wann? welches datum? gute locations sind monate im voraus ausgebucht. und wer nimmt das finanzielle risiko auf sich alle verträge zu unterschreiben? location, pa, bühne, catering, security, etc, etc, etc... einer muss unterschreiben, der ist dann haftbar. und dann stürzt der kurs ab. was dann? grosse sausse, weil der kurs einen dreijährigen double-top hingelegt hat und jetzt wieder abstürzt? da hat dann keiner mehr lust zu feiern. aber einer hat dann plötzlich ganz viele schulden. daher: kleine spontane party im kreise dieses threads wenn der kurs ein paar tage/wochen über 1000 € bleibt und gut ist. wenn dann der kurs abstürzt hatten wir wenigstens ne gute zeit. klein und spontan find ich gut. Vor Jahren hatten wir mal das "Problem", daß fiat-geld nicht schnell genug zu den exchanges kam. Es gab verrückte backlogs bei mtGox usw. Könnte es sein, daß wir jetzt das genau Gegenteilige "Problem" haben: wegen der Verstopfung (ist keine spam-attacke), kommen die Bitcoins nicht schnell genug zu den Exchanges.  ;-) |

Based on this post, and your earlier posts about your average cost per coin, here is my approximate estimate regarding the number of coins that you own.
Approximate amount invested: 4.53 x $750 = $3,400
Based on my foggy memory - estimated average cost per coin: $150
Approximate current number of coins held: $3400 / $150 = 22.67 ( 1/one millionth of the total BTC supply)

It's really hard to screw up security-wise. One mistake I've seen a newbie make is to take a photo of the seed words he had written down with his phone (out of fear to lose them). It dawned on him he had made a potentially fatal (for his coins) mistake. He reinitialized the device after I confirmed this was a really bad idea. |

I don't member 15c exactly, but i member mining it on my CPU for one night, then realizing that i didn't mine a single block for the whole night it was running so I gave up on BTC for a year or so. Damn this ADHD generation
exactly the same here, dunno what the price was. I member it was May 2010, though. Had the client running for a couple days. It didn't "generate" even a cent and since I hadn't read the paper or anything really, I thought this bitcoin thing must be broken ;-) fuck. |

10% of the Icelandic population took the effort of claiming in 2014-2015 "10% of the icelandic "social security numbers" (kennitalia?) we're used to claim coins" would probably be closer to the truth. I don't mean to FUD about possible (likely) shenanigans with the airdrop process or even accuse anyone, but you have to account at least for the fact that probably a lot of Icelanders claimed coins for their friends and relatives. 10% is insanely high, I just don't believe it unless it's supported with some proof or at least indications. Before the first airdrop my hope was that 1% would claim their coins. The more interesting question I have is: how many Icelanders (or internationals, doesn't make much difference) HODL any AUR? If you ask people here if they know cryptocoins they all know about Auroracoin.

So, I've been trying to find out when the mining reward will half.
Looking at the code, it seems like it's going to be at block 2,100,000, which *would* turn out as roughly 4 years from genesis had we been mining multialgo all along. But since the first 225000 were mined with much lower speed (but equally higher subsidy), we "lost" 2 years and the reward halfing will be roughly 3 years from now (6 years from genesis).
I rounded the numbers generously, but is this correct?
Molecular, you are correct. Instead of trying to make changes to it, we just went with the static number based on what it would have been had we been multi-algo. We figured if there was significant reason to calculate the 4 year mark and redo the code, we had a bit of time to make it work. Any worries about it other than it changes the reward/time curve for this initial period? -Fuse Nope, no worries. However: if you do want to make a change to shorten the period, you should rather do it early (as in: now) than later. I would suggest to leave things as they currently are, though. Any change affecting predictability of supply (not just total supply, but also generation rate) better be damn well reasoned. I really can't think of any reason that would merit such a change at this point. |

id like to remind everyone that
SegWit is great for Bitcoin. It brings more transaction throughput, fixes malleability, defrags the UTXO set, makes hardware wallets more secure and most importantly, it enables Lightning which will bring instant low cost Bitcoin transactions to the world. The team at BTCC have been working hard at making their exchange and mining pool services SegWit ready, and everyone else should do the same.
You are correct but people are forgetting one major thing; Bitcoin cannot go mainstream with just bigger blocks. You need something like 1gig blocks to make a shot for it, the internet cant even handle that. Hardforking from 1mb all the way up to 1gig is just a no-go zone, Lightning will fulfill that job because you really want to have high capacity when ''monkey see monkey do'' situation arrives. This is correct, but: why stop natural growth at 1 MB? It's not like we'll be at 1 MB for 10 years and then BOOOOM, we scale to global level overnight. There is nothing wrong with bigger blocks, but we need extra layers to make Bitcoin mainstream. I agree. Increasing blocks will be much smoother when the community, dev, miners are on the same side.
What side? The side that wants to keep the 1 MB blocksize limit? You're saying we should all agree to that in order to remove that limit? What twisted logic is used here? |

Bitcoin is too fragile to be used for 'global economic unity' or anything like that. Try to think in a timespan of beyond 20 years in which it will definitely be hacked/cracked by then or they will find some way to keep the network from functioning in some way or the other. In a best case scenario, we briefly touch something like $20,000 in a speculative bubble before crashing. That is the play here.
Agree, one last hurra and bust seems possible. I don't think that's how it's going to go down. I'm much more optimistic. |
