That's great! Where could I buy a few thousands of these raspberries? For NXT or USD (not sure how long USD will be accepted so I prefer to get rid of dollars in the 1st place).

After digging a little more, I see Newark has Model B units (the one you want, the Model A doesn't have Ethernet) for $40 each including the programmed SD card - over 27,000 in stock for same day shipping.  This is the cost of two months of cloud server rental, so it's a realistic option, I think.  If you are serious about a one week crash effort to get some large number of Raspberry Pis deployed under NXT dev control, the hardware is there to support whatever plan you concoct.

rickyjames do you want to post your findings on there?

Sure, I'll post some thoughts over there.  I was a member at the raspberrypi.org forum from day one.  And I always have something to say.   Smiley

The best place to buy a Raspberry Pi with worldwide outreach:

http://www.newark.com/raspberry-pi-accessories

..altho there are many others (Amazon, EBay, etc).

Liz Upton of the Raspberry Pi Foundation is in direct contact with the Sony factory in the UK that turns out 40K units per week.

Something to use as a springboard document:

Good news on NXT on RaspPi:

Next thing I will do is making a ready-to-run-package for Pi users that they can put on their box.

AWESOME!   Grin

Wow, that didn't take long.  If you get a procedure posted, I'll get it plastered on the Raspberry Pi site.

Or I could read the thread thru to the end and see that Ola has been busy.  Way to go!!! Grin

Just out of curiosity, do you think this current DDos comes from banks, government agencies, or bitcoiners?

I think it's Luke-Jr but this is a pure guess.

Modus operandi is the same.

Had never heard of him.  Now I have.

I love this. Thousands of little Raspberry Pis around the world running for NXT.

Me too. That would be a small technical revolution.

I gave this thought a few extra minutes and now I am sure that THIS WOULD BE TREMENDOUS!

We need this.

Why? Whu would nxt runnin on raspberry pi be such a big thing? (Im a noob)
Because many nodes are needed right now to fight off a DDoS attack that is probably going to get much worse in coming days.   There's a million raspberry Pi's already in public hands that could be organized into a huge web of NXT nodes, with the secondary benefit of bringing MANY new users into the NXT fold.  Plus, the Pi is so cheap it would be relatively cost effective to field large numbers as needed by the core NXT faithful.

I am off as a self-assigned project over the next hours and days to investigate who has put the NXT client on the Pi - and even give it a go myself.  I'll report back if I find anything of use.

I strongly urge you to get in touch with Liz Upton of the Raspberry Pi Foundation ASAP.  You've got a big problem and she has a possible solution she could get implemented very quickly.

Someone else should do that. I'm not a CEO of Nxt.

Let me rephrase my comment.  I volunteer to contact Liz Upton of the Raspberry Pi Foundation if somebody can provide me with a node script for the Pi and possibly some sort of NXT donation proposal for the Foundation / users to sweeten the deal for them.
691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Hot dog on: December 25, 2013, 11:42:21 AM
could raspberry Pi idea work?

Yes. I saw an article in russian where the author stated that he was running NRS on PI.

Plus, when the apocalyptic showdown between Bitcoin and NXT starts in earnest in a week, there would be a certain delicious irony seeing $5000 ASIC operators in a death match with $25 Pi operators.

Most of bitcoiners r our allies in the fight against banks and government agencies.

Just out of curiosity, do you think this current DDos comes from banks, government agencies, or bitcoiners?
693  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Hot dog on: December 25, 2013, 11:25:12 AM

We need to survive until 3rd of January.

I think there'll be even more needed then, when source code is opened = more DDOS and other type of attacks, there is only 1 week left to build a large network.

Just brainstorming here as an ardent NXT supporter/Linux script kiddie trying to set up his first VPN at digitalocean to help out a little while learning a lot, so be gentle when you tell me this is a stupid idea.

You could possibly kill two birds with one stone by coming up with a step-by-step checklist on how to make a Raspberry Pi into a NXT node, if such a thing is possible.  It already runs a form of Debian.  There's over a million Pis out there in the hands of hundreds of thousands of people willing to try something new with it.  By going over to the Raspberry Pi forum at raspberrypi.org and making a single post, you could probably get thousands of people to do this in a week.   If a generous donor gave Eben and Liz Upton of the Raspberry Pi Foundation (a most worthy UK charity pushing the Pi as an educational computer) a substantial NXT donation, plus staked any new Raspberry Pi node operator with 10 NXT, you could get some massive publicity, have a massive number of nodes, plus get a massive number of new people introduced to NXT in a very short period of time.   If Liz would do it as a site headline article there could be an avalanche of NXT nodes in 24 hours.   Win win win.

Plus, when the apocalyptic showdown between Bitcoin and NXT starts in earnest in a week, there would be a certain delicious irony seeing $5000 ASIC operators in a death match with $25 Pi operators.

694  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ADT Androids Tokens repair plan on: December 22, 2013, 06:57:45 AM
I've had a deposit to Cryptsy with 0 confirms since Dec 8th... apparently it will never clear? How do I sweep them back to my wallet?

I've had an ADT withdrawal from Cryptsy listed as "processed"  into a wallet that won't sync since Dec 14, leaving my coins in limbo.  So sweeping ADTs back into a wallet doesn't work.

The only way you're ever going to see your ADTs again is to put your trust in Zack to find a new programmer to fix the wallet and the ADT coin in general.  Venting your frustration with this situation on him hasn't seemed to help for those members that have tried that route.

695  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ADT Androids Tokens repair plan on: December 22, 2013, 01:37:38 AM
OK, Zack, you want to ID programmers with altcoin experience, here's the jump off point for finding them.  You want to base a revised ADT off of some other altcoin with more stable code than ADTs, such a coin has got to come from this list.

Check back on this post because I will be adding new blocks of info 10 coins at a time, so this list will grow.  I don't know how all this will format so it may be a mess, sorry.  I have taken the list of altcoins from coinmarketcap and starting from the bottom, here are seven items of info on each coin:  The coin code, coin name, official website URL, the bitcointalk intro URL, the person who who started the intro thread, the github repository for the code, and the list of contributors to that repository.  If you click on individual contributors at that last one, sometimes they give their contact info like email addys.

Seems like a logical way to start is send the batsignal up asking for ADT help here at bitcointalk via on-site message to the other altcoin intro thread originators, who are most likely the key dev for their coin.

Let me know if you see a better way for me to be focusing my effort here, or if this is even a good idea at all.

Here we go, roughly from the bottom of coinmarketcap to the top:

Heres a subset of the above information, just the bitcointalk member who started the bitcointalk intro thread on each respective coin.  Maybe start with a Bcc: bitcointalk message to all of these explaining the ADT dilemma and asking for their ideas / input / help?

Just for the heck of it, I've gone thru the thread to this point and summarized who has contributed what and where they stand.   Pardon my lack of formatting.  For better or worse, this is the ADT recovery team.  Zack is quarterback and preparing to throw a Hail Mary pass at the endzone as the clock runs down.

jagrapolite5      ADT original founder - I am 100% behind Zack.
the dev fund is still here and will go towards repairs, as always.
zackclark70      Owns 4,000M ADT and has a proposed recovery plan
mullick      Was paid 500M ADT ($1500) to fix problems and has jumped ship
rickyjames      Owns 423M ADT - I am behind Zack 101% for a viable plan to get ADT back on track.
KeyserSozeMC   Owns 400M ADT - Bitch bitch bitch
coinbloke      Owns 200M ADT - I am backing you Zack - no coins in pending transactions or wallets should be lost.
ehoffman      Owns 20M ADT
Until we have any incentive to mine again, the sync will not come back
Why burn electricity at mining just to generate blocks?
         3 bad ideas here
Have preset max num of 'PoW' coins / then remove the need to mine
PoS concept is bad for the coin economy encourages people to hoard
30 seconds blocks kills anybody wanting to solo-mine
I think the MINIMUM should target 2.5 minutes
opticalcarrier   Owns 8M ADT on Cryptsy
Winky         I am a owner of ADT too, and i think this is a good plan
eureka      Thank your hard work for ADT.
pgbit         Thumbs up for a fix
wEEcoIn      Zack, Just run the plan you have full support of the ADT community
elrapido80      Good luck Zack!
digitalfog      Zack should be compensated via a premine allocation
PTseller      My wallet stuck at 8 December sync date
zeeyoon      Concerns about loss of ADT in wallet
cryptohunter   Do not reduce current ADT holders worth who have mined/bought ADT
kelsey           what it needs is pennies type pos
gxp3848      Concerned listing on btc38 will kill ADT
glongsword      bct38  will no longer announce coins before adding them
yanxuch      posted link to http://www.btcltc.com/home/index/adt_cny
saamxx      Zack and its one day users army arrived from the hell?
Scooby903      Has reservations about proposed recovery plan
tokyoghetto   Increase the PoS% to something tangible like 5 percent
Make ADT PoW again so we can GPU mine it again
Lower total amount of coins to < IFC so we can go to the moon
Avoid increasing the amount of coins so we don't end up like CENT
                       Lastly, don't fuck this up
wtman      You need to work harder

Zack, be sure to take another look at my long list of coder ideas, I've done a lot of editing and adding of other possibilities.  Hang in there.

OK, Zack, I've got a specific idea and I've got a general idea.

The targeted idea I've got is go to this guy I read about a month ago at WSJ in his vanity press release:

http://online.wsj.com/article/HUG1746545.html

Christopher Franko is a totally solo operation that has had his fun and time in the spotlight over the past month.  His coin FRANCO is now on a straight downward slope and is currently in 44th place at with a market cap of under $200K at coinmarketcap.  He definitely has the chops and maybe with his coin on the downswing he's got the motivation.  He is the main poster on this forum:

http://forum.frankos.org/index.php#c1

Here's his Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/chrisfranko?hc_location=stream

I "think" this is his twitter stream - if so, he's a rather, er,  jolly guy...:

https://twitter.com/chrisjfranko

He posts on Fethercoin, so he is willing to have dealings with other altcoins - plus he seems a little bit of an outsider there, not somebody neck-deep in a dev project...

http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?topic=5805.30

Here's other contact points:

Community Forum: http://forum.frankos.org
Community Chatroom: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#Franko
Reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/Franko
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Frankosorg
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/FrankoCurrency

So, Zack, you willing to take the lead on contacting Chris by logging onto one of his haunts and sending him a message there?

******************************************************

Another specific target would be Mark Friedenbach of friecoin fame:

http://osrc.dfm.io/maaku

https://twitter.com/MarkFriedenbach

Not sure but I think his CA phone number is 408-984-1642

********************************************************

Other specific second tier coin developers:

http://spectrum.ieee.org/computing/networks/whos-who-in-bitcoin-zerocoin-hero-matthew-green

Here's matthew green's twitter:  https://twitter.com/matthew_d_green/status/401797786347114496

He's a college professor, maybe he could assign a grad student to fix ADT as a thesis project!

http://spar.isi.jhu.edu/~mgreen/

**********************************************

https://github.com/gronager (this guy did libcoin : https://github.com/libcoin/libcoin )

********************************************************************

http://spectrum.ieee.org/computing/networks/whos-who-in-bitcoin-altcoin-advocate-dennison-bertram

********************************************************

OK, for my general idea I am in brainstorming mode here, so if this sounds nuts feel free to say so.  If contacting Chris Franko at the forum above doesn't get up progress, I propose we draft a post saying we are looking for a coder with PoW/blockchain coding experience (or whatever the correct buzzwords for the experience is) in the style of a forum post.  Then we start going down the list at coinmarketcap.com and try to find that coin's discussion forum tech area and post it there.   I think we can skip Bitcoin and Litecoin since they are so big they will just laugh.  I got into cryptocoins just 30 days ago with Quark and I can tell you those devs are deep undercover, it's some knid of of Russian hacker operation (seriously) so forget them.  I say we carpet bomb the rest on the coinmarketcap list because we only need one response and there is no way of knowing in advance where it will come from.

Comments, anybody?

Zack -

I want to get involved more directly in helping you find a coder and in order to do that I need to know more details about specifics of the task.

First of all, exactly what and where are the source code files that needs to be examined / modified and what language are they written in?  Could these be placed in a publicly accessible area like dropbox so prospective coders could examine them, or are there proprietary info in these files even tho they are "broken"?

Second, please draft a good a task description that we can circulate and post it here that is the "want ad" for a programmer, describing in as much specific detail as possible what needs to be done and what payment we are talking about budgeting.

Hang in there!

I'm thinking that since zackclark70 has been doing the heavy lifting on this (and spending his own funds) that he should be compensated via a premine allocation.

I second the motion.

Zack, I'm stating the obvious, I guess, but be sure to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the middle link to see all 7 guys volunteering for cryptocoin work, and don't just get distracted by the big photo of the lowest bidder at the top of the page...

Hang in there, buddy.  Ignore they naysayers, you've still got pals behind you here.
