681  Economy / Speculation / Re: the next checkpoint $13,800 on: July 26, 2021, 01:12:58 AM
Great piece of analysis. And we are currently seeing the market rebounding.

I would actually still Dollar Cost Average into the market, even with the recent bullishness. These prices are low relative to the ATH and there is a high likelihood that come the next halving, these prices will be seen as cheap.

The support at $30k seems to be robust, and the trend reversal seems well under way. While I do still expect some dips in the short run, dollar cost averaging as a strategy that allows you to ride out these dips and benefit from them through lowering your cost basis.
682  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The houses always win, are you the house or the gambler? on: July 26, 2021, 12:21:00 AM
Actually, the lines have been blurred between the two in recent years.

You can now be both the house and the gambler. Just think about sites like Bitvest where you can invest & play at the same time. The process of funding a bankroll has now largely become more democratised than ever before.

And no, the house does not always win. In the long run, and theoretically, yes. But in the short run, the gambler can really push the house to its limits (just think about Nakowa on JD years back).
683  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is key to the future of Twitter, Jack Dorsey says on: July 25, 2021, 09:18:58 AM
Very interesting.

Obviously Dorsey probably has something in it for himself in order for him to say this. However, I still appreciate the support.

I personally see BTC more of a store of value going into the future, although it definitely has the capacity to scale quite substantially as required. Institutional adoption and investment levels are definitely ramping up, and it's not going to stop any time soon as the new generation who are more comfortable with the idea of BTC enters their primes.
684  Economy / Economics / Re: EU wants to ban crypto anonymous transactions and wallets on: July 25, 2021, 05:54:35 AM
Therein lies the beauty of bitcoin - you simply cannot do that.

There is no centralised point of failure as there is for traditional wire transfers, which is what makes BTC so unique and useful in the first place. No central entity can control transaction validation, money supply, or even censor transactions. It's simply not possible unless they somehow shut down all of the nodes worldwide.

They could always formulate regulation, but whether or not they'll be able to enforce it is another issue altogether.
685  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anything like excess gambling on: July 25, 2021, 04:11:47 AM
Do you feel compelled to gamble whenever you have free time?

If the answer to the above is yes, then you probably have a problem. I've seen friends who see gambling as a surefire way to make money and treat it almost as if it is a second job. Obviously, it is not, and more often than not these same people end up chasing their losses and losing more than they initially had planned.

Be brutally honest with yourself - are you gambling for the sake of fun, or the sake of making money? If the latter, you need to reconsider your strategy, potentially apply for self-exclusion schemes, or take a short break to adjust your mindset.
686  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetJA.com | The highest Payout + Free BTC + Multi-Bet Insurance on: July 25, 2021, 02:45:25 AM
Welcome. Seems like a great site and I will certainly check you guys out with some of my own funds soon. Odds seem great and I really do appreciate the multi-bet insurance, which will probably save me from those last leg losses quite a bit.

You'll find though that a lot of retail gamblers don't really care about the odds that much, though. If they do care about odds then they are more likely to bet on a betting exchange and make their own market.

Try to build rep by hosting giveaways, tipping comps, etc. and perhaps even sign a message from your wallet address to prove that you have a reserve of funds to pay out on. That will put a lot of people at more ease.
687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 on: July 25, 2021, 01:56:35 AM
Not surprising from China.

I expect a lot more medals coming from the US & Australia though, given that they are a bit more versatile when it comes to other sports. But in terms of the medal count I do think that it's a lock for China.

In terms of COVID cases, I think that there is virtually no way that they suspend play now. Tokyo has invested way too much time and money for this to keep dragging on - it's now or never.
688  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitRoul.com the only Roulette with no Zero and a solid Provably Fair feature on: July 25, 2021, 12:56:44 AM
Hmm, interesting.

I personally don't mind the fact that there is a withdrawal fee of 1%. If your gambling volume is high then it's actually a much better deal for you.

Even if you just turn over your balance once, you're essentially playing roulette at the house edge of dice which is not a bad deal whatsoever. However, I do agree that the site aesthetics needs work and reputation needs to be built before whales are comfortable with playing here.
689  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Different Types of Live Blackjack(Evolution Gaming) on: July 24, 2021, 11:16:14 AM
I personally prefer speed blackjack. Classic, simple and quick.

But I think that if you are looking for a game that gives you the maximum RTP then potentially infinite blackjack would be better for you - provided that you play the optimal strategy.

Is it worth it to learn a whole new set of strategies just to get that few hundredth of a percentage of extra edge? Probably not, imo. Just play the game that you like the most.
690  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should online gambling companies be responsible for harm related activities? on: July 24, 2021, 10:14:08 AM
I think that companies should definitely offer things like self-exclusion to their clients. And they also have a degree of responsibility for sure when it comes to enforcing these self-exclusion orders when they come from the clients themselves.

However, there is only so much that they can possibly do when it comes to these things.

You can't expect them to physically chase up people and ensure that they are not gambling. It just doesn't work.
691  Economy / Economics / Re: Who is Happier: Stock investors or Bitcoin investors on: July 22, 2021, 10:12:06 AM
I personally think BTC investors.

They are backing a greater cause, imo, given the fact that BTC is a whole movement towards decentralisation. Individual stocks have certain purposes but mostly, they are just there for profit generation and profit generation only, without trying to disrupt the existing system to make it better.

In terms of volatility, BTC investors definitely have to ride through a lot more ups and downs - but they get rewarded quite handsomely too for their belief.
692  Economy / Speculation / Re: TESLA will re-accept bitcoin & SpaceX owns BTC, said Elon Musk. Ready for pump ? on: July 22, 2021, 06:29:46 AM
Look, fact of the matter is that even after they announced that, the market simply did not move that much. BTC didn't even climb by more than double digits.

The biggest reason for that is because markets have already priced in the majority of what Elon said in anticipation, imo.

I still think that we are in a mid-term downtrend right now, given that there is a lot of market fatigue with hype and institutional adoption. And until the next halving, I seriously don't feel like there will be any legitimate shot of us breaking out of the $30k-$40k range.
693  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Preferred Escrow and why? on: July 22, 2021, 04:53:31 AM
Forum escrow for sure.

A lot of the escrow platforms out there are simply too clunky to use. The dispute resolution process is absolutely atrocious and their decision making is quite arbitrary. I'd rather have the history and track record of some of the forum members on here.

For currency exchange, Localbitcoins is a good option. I've personally used them quite a bit and encountered issues occasionally but they were all resolved reasonably fast.
694  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Terms and condition a must read before signing up any online gambling site on: July 22, 2021, 04:14:06 AM
Gamblers should ban together and stop supporting poor gambling sites

*Easy to read terms and conditions

*KYC free

*Free withdrawals (even if it's only once a week)

Any site that is missing any of these points should be avoided

Yes. But you shouldn't take it as the only determinant of whether or not you want to play on a site.

A site with a very convoluted and draconian T&C may not enforce it in practice, and it may be okay that you play on their site. Meanwhile, another site with a very simple T&C may actually be a landmine waiting to be stepped on, and actually enforce KYC on all of its customer accounts.

This is very reputation is probably a bit more important than the T&Cs alone, imo. Anyone can cherrypick conditions when it comes to it, but reputation usually indicates whether or not they actually do that in the first place.
695  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin go down below $20,000. on: July 21, 2021, 10:17:01 PM
Personally expect a similar scenario to unfold.

Fact of the matter is that the investor sentiment across the market right now is incredibly bearish and unless there is some sort of catalyst to really overturn that (e.g. positive government regulation). Musk & Wood's conference did not really deliver the bullishness that I think a lot of people expected, which just reaffirms where we are now in the market cycle.

We are momentarily above $30k for now but that is not likely to hold itself for long imo. $20k is definitely possible.
696  Economy / Services / Re: 1xbit.com honest review campaign (open) on: July 21, 2021, 09:16:19 PM
I have played with a bit of money on 1xBit before all the allegations kicked in. Personally didn't have any issues at the time, but you will see through a quick browse of the forum that this is far from the experience of others.

1xBit's UI is definitely one of the best in the business. It's more intuitive than a lot of competitors. No doubt about that.

Its reputation is definitely tainted, though, and for that reason my honest recommendation would be to avoid playing at their site. There are multiple outstanding reputational/accusatory threads that are open against them, some of which relate to unpaid winnings.

The management team seem to be at least communicating on the forum and trying to rebuild their reputation through various campaigns. However, I can't see any evidence of all of the previous accusations being resolved. I may revise this stance in the future if they do finally handle these allegations.

Final verdict: I would not recommend this site until management shows that all previous accusations are satisfactorily resolved by community standards. That is something that I value more than UX alone.

697  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: USA Basketball loss odds on: July 20, 2021, 09:43:55 PM
Now they don't even have Kevin Love or Brad Beal.

US odds are still heavily inflated even after the exhibition games, imho. They don't have any closers from years past that would be able to seal the deal for them if the game was close. They also have never played together as a group.

Meanwhile teams like Spain, Nigeria and Australia have excellent chemistry that just can't be brought up in a few weeks. Definitely worth a punt imo for hte rest of the world to take home gold for this one.
698  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is BlockFi safe in the event of a stock market crash/another financial crisis? on: July 20, 2021, 09:42:12 AM
Probably not.

The problem with all custodial models is that the operators get insanely greedy and take on massive amounts of leverage for no good reason at all. In essence, they deviate from their initial pledge of investing in liquid assets only. And with a fractional reserve system it's inevitable that we reach some sort of breaking point soon.

Blockfi and other services could pay you some interest, sure, but it's definitely not worth the risk that you are putting on.
699  Economy / Speculation / Re: Repeating the price cycle every 4 years on: July 20, 2021, 06:35:12 AM
There will certainly be a bull run in 2024 imo. But the question really is how far the extent of the bull run will be.

Each time the amount we grow by has decreased. It makes sense since the market capitalisation of BTC has grown exponentially and it takes significantly more capital to move prices each time round.

I certainly don't expect a $300k BTC in 2024. A more realistic target would likely be $75k or $80k given the trillion dollar valuations assigned to crypto at this stage.
700  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling on friendly matches on: July 20, 2021, 03:33:32 AM
Probably just luck, imo.

You have to realise that the methods that bookies use to price risk as well as all other players in the market is probably a lot more sophisticated than you. Even if your matches are indeed more likely to go over on the over/under, it's going to be futile if the odds that you get are atrocious.

It's very hard to find true market inefficiencies, and they disappear very quickly.
