701  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tokyo 2020 Men's Olympics Basketball Tournament on: July 20, 2021, 01:24:48 AM
+2500 on Australia?

I think the odds are definitely way too skewed in the US's favour. There is a lot of youth and inexperience on the US roster, and they have definitely shown weakness when it comes to exhibition games.

Serbia, France and Australia are all very good picks to win at such long odds.
702  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is there a pattern when there is a dump like this? on: July 19, 2021, 11:48:31 PM
No pattern.

Technical Analysis certainly doesn't work when there are more important macro trends in play that are simply not accounted for. There is a reason why TA is sometimes dubbed astrology for men.

People said that $40k was the bottom and won't be broken through - until it wasn't. They said that everything was pointing towards $32k being the ultimate resistance - until it wasn't. Looking for patterns in the charts is merely wishful thinking.
703  Economy / Economics / Re: Are Renewable Energy resources the future? on: July 19, 2021, 11:27:29 PM
There is no doubt.

The electrical vehicle (EV) industry has been gaining a lot of traction and will only continue to do so into the future. Investors are just becoming more environmentally conscious in general by the day regardless of the area we are talking about.

However, be careful of the fact that adoption of renewable energy doesn't necessarily equal an increase in the stock price of certain EV makers or whatnot. They are very loosely correlated.
704  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the next economic crisis in the world instead cause financial inflows into on: July 19, 2021, 10:57:18 PM
I'd expect BTC to move in tandem with the rest of the asset classes during the crash, but rebound much more strongly after the fact.

As we saw during the COVID pandemic, BTC initially was panic sold all the way down to $3k but recovered to all time highs after stocks started to rally.

With inflation sky high right now I really do think that it is a matter of time before people start looking for safe haven assets. Gold is too clunky, so BTC is likely going to receive a lot of attention on that front.
705  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: YoBit stole 10 ETH from me – a conversation with Dominik Herzog - Chat Log on: July 19, 2021, 10:23:01 PM
Bump YoBit is still ignoring me

Look, unless you can find out where they are located, what their address & company rego is, you're not seeing your money.

They essentially have complete control over the private keys and as you said, it's up to them to sweep the funds out of the ETC wallet.

They have absolutely no incentive to do so. They don't have a brand reputation to begin with so they don't have anything to lose, and they know that you don't have any other avenues of contacting them unless you somehow magically track them down IRL (which is pretty much impossible since people have been trying to do it for years now).

Just expect the worst and hope for the best. All you can do.
706  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling attracted to emotion or luck on: July 19, 2021, 09:40:54 PM
Pure coincidence.

Also, you might feel as if you are luckier when your expectations are lower. When you are expecting a profit, you tend to exaggerate losses in your mind a lot greater than the profits that you generate. Whereas when you are expecting nothing, any profit you make feels much larger.

The RNG rolls don't care whether you feel good or feel bad. There is zero point trying to get into a care-free mindset before you bet.
707  Economy / Economics / Re: Only young and naive guy believe in high risk high return on: July 18, 2021, 10:17:08 AM
Definitely has some truth to it.

The fact of the matter is that a lot of deals are only available to the elite to begin with. The private equity deals that are available to a dentist, for instance, will be worlds away from private equity deals afforded to investment bankers who has a high net worth.

High risk =\= high reward always. Whilst the correlation is true in certain asset classes, it definitely does not hold in fields where some have an artificial advantage over others to begin with.
708  Other / Archival / Re: Will we break the key support at $30 800 or not? on: July 18, 2021, 08:42:09 AM
Personally I think it's a matter of time before a correction takes us down under.

There is simply too much bearish sentiment in the market right now. The FOMO mania is all but past us and I don't think that will return for at least until the next halving cycle.

I think that we'll steadily decline to around the $20k level, test the support there, and potentially go even lower than that. $30k support is going to be transitory.

Either way though, this is a great opportunity to accumulate if you are looking to get into BTC for the long run. Start your DCA schedule.
709  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Binance P2P on: July 18, 2021, 05:37:23 AM
Don't recommend that you use it.

The fact that you are accessing it with VPN from a banned country is definitely not reassuring. What if you were to be scammed and Binance mediation was called into resolve the issue? Certainly not the best look for you if you had to explain all your details were incorrect at signup.

Especially with the currently hostile environment between Binance and regulators, they will probably up the KYC.

Just use on-forum escrow or LBC, I think you're much safer with them.
710  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your betting budget on: July 18, 2021, 04:48:30 AM
I kind o like feeling in control of my finances and that means controlling my spending and being very aware of what goes in and what goes out. I normally check my accounts every month and may make a few decisions on what to spend next month if things are not looking correct. One of the things I do is to set aside 10% of my income for things that I really do not need - expensive clothing, gadgets and electronics, books, games,... and part of that is gambling. For me, a reasonable gambling budget is 3 to 5% of my income, although I may allow more if I have some extraordinary income that month. How do you plan your gambling or fun budget?

This is really good if you are looking to gamble at all.

You need to look at gambling as an expense that you are willing to pay - much like entertainment. In fact, it is a form of entertainment that you pay through incurring negative EV on casino run games.

I personally allocate somewhere closer to 2-3% and consolidate that with the rest of my entertainment expenses (subscriptions, etc.). Definitely not anywhere near the double digit percentages that a lot of other people seem to be working with.
711  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Funding project development through slot gaming token on: July 18, 2021, 02:55:35 AM
Inevitably, a lot of the benefits from the token still would flow onto the development team.

That in itself is nothing wrong. But when you have large amounts of capital from the initial offering flowing developers who give you a gimmicky product in return that didn't take half an hour to whip up, that becomes a problem.

I personally still think that we're quite a while away before we can have a mainstream casino through crowdfunding. The development team definitely needs to show a certain degree of competence and ability to commit capital themselves before any investor would jump into the ecosystem with them.
712  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Taxes on gambling send the right message? on: July 18, 2021, 01:23:40 AM
I was thinking that many countries are reluctant to legalise certain activities such as gambling, prostitution, smoking, ... and, apart from countries that have strong social and religious restrictions (I refer to those as the death-by-boredom countries) others simply consider than the state should not profit or allow activities that are considered diminishing for the workers or that may harm their health and personal relations (it must be difficult to be an addict to gambling or a prostitute and have a normal life).

However, other countries simply set high taxes to these activities, which I think is a false morality, as if by paying these activities can be less questionable. (Note: I personally do not question regulated gambling).

Definitely think that it's a bit hypocritical.

Also, the taxes simply don't do anything when it comes to deterring people from gambling. All that will happen is that there will be a black market created from all of this where gamblers would go instead of going to regulated casinos.

Is that the better outcome that the government's trying to achieve? I suspect not. So why pursue it?
713  Economy / Speculation / Re: The market is full of opportunities to come on: July 16, 2021, 01:00:19 AM
Expect a short term selloff in my opinion.

The $30k level is definitely something to keep in mind and watch going forward. If this support is broken through then we could potentially regress all the way back to $20k or so before we see a major rebound.

The sentiment is undeniably bearish right now. There is no denying that - but that's when opportunities strike. Starting your DCA strategy to accumulate BTC for the long run right now would be a fantastic idea.
714  Economy / Speculation / Re: David Gokhshtein: Bitcoin Price Will Reach $80K on: July 15, 2021, 12:42:02 PM
He's literally a person who is known for being a crypto investor. What else do you expect from him?

The problem with these predictions is that they have absolutely no basis. If you select 100 random people, and tell each one to give you a random number, at least one person is probably going to give you a number that is close to BTC's price in one year.

People confuse accuracy of prediction with luck. This guy clearly has not provided any proven basis for his analysis, and until he provides anything more than the arbitrary narrative that banks are trying to get people to sell their coins, any accurate predictions he may make in the future should be considered to be lucky. $80k could certainly come, but probably not due to the reasons that he has listed.
715  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you are a shapeshift user then it's your lucky day on: July 15, 2021, 11:59:31 AM
Seems a bit like a marketing ploy to gain traction with their token.

Fact of the matter is that most people won't have access to their ETH wallets from that long ago or can't be arsed to go and claim it. The liquidity in these FOX markets are also very poor - if everyone rushed to exchange their tokens there is nowhere near enough depth in the orderbooks to catch the market orders.

Great for Shapeshift's PR, but I doubt many will actually benefit. Congrats though OP.
716  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Any "broker-less" stock exchanges that accepts crypto payments and withdrawals? on: July 15, 2021, 11:21:57 AM
If by broker you mean any middleman, then no, there doesn't exist anything like that yet. DEX is not yet that advanced.

But yeah, FTX would be a good option if they don't constitute a "broker" in your mind. Uphold could also be a possibility.

Do note that your risks do increase quite substantially by going with these guys. Essentially, you are trusting these people to hold your funds custodially for you. They could be performing fractional reserve for their own profit (and they probably are), and you wouldn't know a thing about it until they go bankrupt with all your funds.

The legal waters here are murky and untrodden. If you were investing in stocks you might as well get things under your own name.
717  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin and GBTC premium on: July 15, 2021, 06:04:35 AM
You're confusing cause and effect here.

The fact that BTC is projected to be in a protracted bear market from this point onwards is the reason for the discount to NAV. As such, the only thing that could catalyse a reversion to a 0% discount/fair value for GBTC would be a bull market.

Institutional fund managers aren't dumb. They wouldn't mistake a GBTC trust with 1:1 guaranteed exposure to BTC - so the arbitrage forces would probably also be missing there.
718  Economy / Economics / Re: Singapore, the banking industry, and Bitcoin on: July 15, 2021, 05:32:12 AM
Everyone is looking at El Salvador to be “the home” of Bitcoin, but I believe Singapore is better to be the true hub of the Bitcoin industry, with serious players.

Singapore has made a lot of effort on the technological sector. It cannot be said of El Salvador.

Singapore has clean governance, and almost zero corruption. El Salvador’s government structure might be corrupt everywhere from the bottom to the top.

Singapore’s banking industry is what made the country develop into one of the richest countries in the world. It can further develop by embracing the Bitcoin industry.

Agreed.

Right now a lot of what has been said about El Salvador is pure hype.

It is a country with zero governance, no prudent authority in charge, and very little social security. Even if they offered next to zero corporate taxes, why in the world would you choose them over something like Singapore which has proven itself with robust administrations and a historic track record of innovation?
719  Economy / Economics / Re: Understanding marketcaps and valuations on: July 14, 2021, 10:16:29 PM
Of course not. Market cap is really just a theoretical concept that has very little bearing on reality.

This is why you see M&A transactions for target companies typically being done at prices that exceed the current market cap - there is simply no way to get shareholders to forego their stock any other way, since if one bought on the open market then they would slowly bid prices up.

Similarly, a very small precedent transaction at an IPO shouldn't be taken as an accurate predictor of the company's size or whatnot, especially if the initial float is low. Just doesn't work that way.
720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: This is heartbreaking on: July 14, 2021, 09:34:40 PM
Absolutely.

We're currently seeing the end stages of an altcoin mania. There is no longer any real innovations going on in the ecosystem, everything is either a parody or a copy of an existing project except marketed better.

99/100 of these new tokens coming out will go to zero within 6 months. I can guarantee you that. Dogecoin was original and hence held its value relatively well, and none of these new tokens are original. You'd be a fool to be investing in this garbage.
