701  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: LTC GPU Mining...Where's the downside? on: April 04, 2013, 08:46:19 PM
The problem I see with LTC mining is the difficulty changes every 2 days or so vs 2 weeks with bitcoin. With bitcoin you can mine for 2 weeks at a time and only worry about the exchange rate dropping and hurting your profit. With litecoin you have a 2 day window... difficulty can change 15 times in a month, which could be 15 increases.
702  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sent bitcoin to bitcoin-qt wallet before it was fully sync'd on: April 04, 2013, 05:37:45 PM
All is good. The transactions are all stored in the blockchain, you just have to download it to view/use it.

Just wait and you should see the coins come in.
703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fiat -> Bitcoin -> Bytecoin on: April 04, 2013, 04:55:15 PM
I think the biggest problem is that everyone will hoard it, trying to become rich. The only way an economy can function is if people spend the 'money'. If EVERYONE hoards then it will fail.

i really think its a pretty dumb idea and have/want no parts of it unless there is more to it than I have seen thus far.
704  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Litecoin GPU mining efficiency. on: April 04, 2013, 03:09:33 PM
Its all in how lucky you are, just like with BTC mining. With solo mining you could make a lot more if your lucky but could also make a lot less. Pooled mining takes some of the 'luck' away and gives a more constant payout.

Over a long time period (1 year maybe?) each method should average out and you should make about the same either way.
705  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Importance of GPU RAM for Litecoin Mining on: April 03, 2013, 11:24:13 PM
I dont mean to thread-jack but I have a similar question...

Does litecoin mining use more system ram or GPU ram? I know scrypt is very memory intensive but which memory does it use?

I hope pics are posted once its all setup, would be cool to see!

711  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin instead of 401k? on: March 28, 2013, 01:20:47 PM
I dont have any real advise here but I am interested in what others may say. I have thought about doing the same thing with my 401k. One plus for me is Im young, so if I lose it all I have time to rebuild.

Wow you guys really don't know much about mains power if you think a modern US house is gonna be limited to 9.6kW.

The US standard for "regular" outlets is 120V, but they still run 240V into a most houses, plus a neutral leg which is used to make the 120V circuits.  A lot of the really high current appliances (electric stove, heat pump) are run on 240V circuits, for efficiency and to save on wire cost.

I have one of my "regular" outlets wired up for 240V, and I run my GPU miner on it when it's here.

so excuse my us ignorance, do they have a mixed power supply there where they have a lot of step up transformers from the generators to give 240

or do they have 240 supply mixed in with 110v so dual lines or something

Huh

Im no electrician but I think to get 240v its just 2 120v lines tied together.
713  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASIC Batch 3 [Open again for a 6th unit] on: March 26, 2013, 10:34:49 PM
I assume you have the ability to power all these units?

More than enough. I have a 30a 240v and a 60a 240v circuit that I can use.

Cool!  Grin

716  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: VGA cards in mineral oil, remove heatsink and fans or leave them on? on: March 26, 2013, 11:14:33 AM
Not sure how much the fans will help but I would leave the heatsink for sure.
