thank you rxalts for this, would merit the raffle but alas I have run out of smerits atm so all I can do is say thanks! you do a lot of raffles and auctions that I have seen in my short time here in the collectibles area of the forums - to which I freely admit I am new to this area Smiley

good luck everyone!

As part of my recent paid moonbits raffle, the following users were allotted free spots in addition to the general free spot per user: minifrij (2 spots), sweeteye (4 spots), kryme (4 spots), Stryfe (4 spots), Agrawas (12 spots),  Hookzup1 (14 spots). They received a DM requesting spot selection prior to listing of this raffle.

question - we got 2 spots for each spot we bought in your prior raffles - are we also supposed to pick a spot that would normally be free to anyone? I only ask as the above says we were allotted free spots in addition to the general free spot.

7047  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Bitcoin Gift Cards - What’s at your local store ? on: May 09, 2020, 03:59:33 PM
That would defeat the whole purpose of buying a crypto "gift-card"....  It needs to be loaded at time of purchase from the retailer.
Why would someone want to go sign up for an exchange just to load a nominal amount?

but from what you said earlier there is a requirement around "signing up to be a money transmitter"?

I plead ignorance on the subject - but does that make it harder for someone to sell the gift cards?

in my head i see this no different than any other gift card - except you use your local currency to load btc on it vs that currency

Lot 1 .0065 BTC
7049  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Bitcoin Gift Cards - What’s at your local store ? on: May 09, 2020, 02:56:21 PM
I would think that you should be able to buy btc at the value it is when you are currently buying the gift card and have it loaded to a card - the cards could be premade with a secured private key under a scratch off or behind a hologram and  a public address visible so that the seller could load whatever amount you are wanting - the person you give the card to would then redeem it by revealing the private key

but if thats the case that is already what ballet and coldkey offer essentially - though to your original question concerning stores selling them - that is not done for either company to the best of my knowledge.  But it should be possible to buy bulk cards from either ballet or coldkey and then put them in a storefront.

Sure... and then you can sign up to be a money-transmitter... so easy

ok so there are some laws/rules which make this more complicated then, I take it?

You know you’re a lot sharper than everyone always says! Tongue

This is exactly right. Bitnovo if I’m not mistaken adds the bitcoin after purchase somehow. People would pay a nice premium for these, helping offset any fluctuations (most of the time). I know there are others out there. Not sure if any are pre-funded however. ( This is also my guess why Satori never came back ).

Edit- I do mean funded but would love to hear of any DIYs in stores too.

Haha thanks, I try not to always be a fool  Grin

I believe this exact business model would be similar to Stockpile which functions as a brokerage so in theory you would want a reputable exchange to sell these gift cards to guarantee settlement for the bitcoin. However, I did find that Stockpile allows you to purchase GBTC which is Grayscale's Bitcoin Trust so in theory you can buy Bitcoin via gift card this method.

In closing, if I see you with a sig campaign for Kraken, Coinbase, or Binance gift cards. I expect a thank you cut  Wink

"In closing" ..writing a term paper here?  Cheesy

I'm curious why exchanges don't have these in gas stations or grocery stores.  They could easily put a card funding section up on their website.  I know plenty of people have no clue how to buy bitcoin... They find these cards with instructions how to load them and at minimum these exchanges make a few bucks with the potential for a new customer on the exchange itself. I would think they have the proper money transacting license needed for this that FinCen requries already.   ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(I've seen Coinbase cards before too)

this is kind of what I meant but I guess the difference here is the store is only selling the card and not loading actual funds to it, right? the buyer would have to still go to an actual exchange to get the funds loaded to it?

I think this also is what minerjones was getting at - the issue of being the one that converts/loads the cards having to be a "money-transmitter"?

I'm just making sure they get the proper information.  No worries, I'm certain it was an honest mistake.  Be well and stay safe out there.

at least you were nice about it - I pointed out the gold ones on another thread and I was called a shilling deceptive piece of shit and threatened with negative trust. nowhere did I even say it was the halving one - simply that there are gold wallets for sale and even provided a coupon code that would save the guy 5% off if he wanted to get one of those. when the other dude went off on me - I did edit my post to specify that they are simply gold ones and not the halving edition (though I never said it was)

my point is there is a proper way to let me know they missed some details or in clarifying a post. I thank you for being one of those types vs the other.
You forget to add that you were directly posting a reply to a Newbie in a thread titled "Bitcoin Halving Special Edition Wallet". What item did you think he was asking about? We take care of our Newbies around here. You're walking on thin ice. Let's see if you can get up to edit 4, 5, or 6 in the other thread trying to save face.
If you don't know something for sure.. save your +1 post count and let someone who does know what they're talking about answer. I know with affiliate codes in play the early bird gets the worm though right so that'll never happen with you.

you forget to add that the thread had an invalid link in the op - in fact that the thread in question was a complete mess up as they created a whole second site on a second domain with a different price to boot - i simply pointed to the actual site - and i was pointing out that simply there are still gold ones left - anyone reading the details on the site would see that they are not the same. you were taking care of no one - you were being a douche bag.

the edits were simply to avoid adding other posts - I am not saving face. I posted about gold cards still available - never claimed they were the halving versions, yes, I offered the link in my signature (because the one in the OP was INVALID and did not point to their official site in any way!) and yes I offered a discount code - I was not bending his arm to use either. Relax. I also edited the post to clarify that.

My point is you could have simply pointed out that I was missing the fact that they were not halving editions - you did not need to start name calling and threatening.

the only thing I did not do was specify that it was not the halving one - but I also did not claim it was. I did edit the post to say that.

if you want to take care of people - there is a right way and a wrong way and your way is wrong. I am not worried about my post count sheesh. People like you do not belong in society - you are a bully.

edit: see below for someone truly just going for the +1 to post count...

Lot 1- .0025BTC

i am confused, you are bidding on your own auction?

As rxalts stated, some of these lots are donations from other members. Normally bidding on your own lots wouls definitely be a shady ass move ... That’s simply showing everyone you’re not happy with the price and are essentially shill bidding openly. Lot 1 is a donation from another member.  (Technically I could even bid on my own lots/items and I’m not sure it would be a big deal. This is all going to charity and I will be showing proof it does. So that would just mean I’m not happy what it’s selling for and forcing bidders to bid up if they want it. Since I’m not pocketing they money, not really a big deal. However that’s still kinda iffy and odd so I’d not go down that road).

lol nah I was looking it simply as um, hes bidding to buy something he already has? um why not just keep it and keep the money? lol I totally missed that these were donated items - very cool for the community to do! I am new to the collectibles pages so still getting the feel for it!

It’s not “his” auction. He just organized it with donated items from across the community. All of the proceeds go to charity so it’s not like him bidding is a bad thing especially for all of the time he has put in to organize both auctions.

Ahh, gotcha!
