Gavin Andresen (watch the interview!) says that he fully understands the delays from Butterfly Labs: Hardware is hard. Hardware delays are the norm. This was an enormously irresponsible statement and damages Gavin's credibility. The delays at BFL are beyond normal hardware issues. They assert to have and accepted money for products in their queue that physically cannot exist with the technology they have delivered to market. And before you say I don't know what I'm talking about Josh, you fucking tell me how you are going to scale a 10 watt per GH design to 1500 GH/s unit in a case the size of a full ATX tower? Have a fucking engineer explain it to someone because it just doesn't make any sense.

The road ahead comprises of several thresholds. First there is the notion of mainstream adoption of Bitcoin. This requests a correction of the PR issues of Bitcoin, reduction of the knowledge and software barriers to entry and making Bitcoin relatable to everyday consumers. Second, once millions have entered the ecosystem, there will be a battle over the protocol itself and investment in many different standards. Some alt coins will be elevated, many will die quickly. Eventually the market will settle embracing a small subset and regulations will lock in those standards. Bitcoin could die here.
Third, all modern payment systems will adapt the new standards into their software resulting in a ubiquitous online currency. We will also see significantly better exchanges develop alongside a host of financial products thus improving liquidity and reducing short term volatility.

Ok I have a little more info. The seizure warrant came out of Maryland and it was on behalf of ICE. It seems like a financial crime investigation most likely involving either RICO or anti-structuring laws. We'll get more info in a week or so.

Goal is 100k by the end of the year and then more courses on Udacity, Coursera and Edx. 1 million by the end of 2014.

I don't think I know enough about them or I would. That may be something better for a discussion with a few panelists or something. Over the Summer, I'm going to be doing a huge amount of reading and coding for my course: https://www.udemy.com/bitcoin-or-how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-crypto/I'm also going to be writing a proto-bitcoin for an upcoming course on how to develop an Alt coin. I'd love to include exchange tech in my course somewhere especially what's needed for a P2P exchange.

|
|
Anyone interested on doing a lecture on P2P Exchanges?

Order book functionality and front end websites are trivially implemented.
The problem is and always be: how do you handle the movement of non-bitcoin currencies?
That is not a problem that can be solved with software. That's what I'm getting at. It seems to be the missing link in the entire puzzle

|
|
I'm actually greatly confused myself, which is why I've been trying to get David to do a lecture on Ripple for my course.
|
|
|
I'm talking about a secure protocol that is P2P and totally decentralized. I understand Ripple accomplishes this but it is controlled by a single entity and regulatable

Due to the recent events with both Dwolla and the $75 million lawsuit against Mtgox, it seems increasingly clear that a centralized exchange system is both a significant point of weakness and a heaven for manipulation. I'd curious if anyone in this community has invested a significant amount of time in attempting to develop a P2P exchange. Has anyone written a write paper? Did you come up with an idea but couldn't get funded?
I am considering funding some new ventures in the Bitcoin community after the Summer and if there is a working P2P exchange on the table, then it would be high on my list. Let's start a discussion.

Does anyone have any clear information regarding Dwolla?

If you preordered in bitcoins last year, then bfl will not refund the full amount just the market value of bitcoins as of today. That means some people have lost thousands of dollars.
|
|
|
Working on my end. You can also google bitcoin udemy

Just answer my question. You might fool me into pre-ordering again. You know, Me being not so bright. Mooc Josh is in way too deep. He can't legally answer any of your or my questions. If they fail to deliver but continue to take preorders, then we will file a class action lawsuit followed by a criminal complaint to the relevant authorities. Contrary to Josh's meager understanding, it is illegal to accept almost $100,000 dollars in preorders for minirigs when the company has evidence that the sales claims cannot be true. It is consumer fraud. And before Josh you say false, Cloudhashing has claimed they preordered the minirigs. Either you are lying or they are. Cloudhashing's Proof of Purchase https://picasaweb.google.com/104878918886305681953/ProofOfPurchase?authuser=0&feat=directlink#5866587391835308050Note the last date of purchase in April. BFL had already received their ASICs and verified the power consumption was too high to scale to the minirig. Therefore, they knowingly took money for a product that did not exist pending R&D. Def of Consumer Fraud: Deceptive practices that result in financial or other losses for consumers in the course of seemingly legitimate business transactions. Seems pretty clear here. Cloudhashing was never told about the R&D risks or given a rough delivery date. The bitcoin preorder option was another example of consumer fraud. We in the community have a reasonable expectation due to the deflationary nature of bitcoin the price will increase over time. To accept bitcoins for preordered goods last year and then not deliver for months on end without refunding the appreciation of the bitcoins at time of delivery is beyond reproach. Some people paid over 3,000 dollars for their 5 GH/s units.

Take notes people ^
1. Doesn't answer questions (cherry picks)
2. Tries to take the high road of making the poster he speaks of as not using their brain.
3. Deflects from main points about delays and focuses on irrelevant point about benches used to assemble units.
4. Asks the user if they are really that stupid.
5. Because he doesn't like one itty bitty thing about the poster's past he will disqualify ever giving any answers to any questions.
6. Calls the questions asked as "ASININE".
7. That is the way to justify not answering questions. ^
I for one am excited either I get a BFL product or Josh goes to jail. It's a win/win for me.

Maybe you could learn a thing or two about integrity. Where have I been dishonest? I've been working for free and brought together many different people towards a common goal. I've always been honest about the goal- make bitcoin accessible and relatable for everyday people. So far we've gone from nothing to over 1,000 subscribers and rapidly growing with ten contributors including the author of Million Dollar Pizza, the makers of the upcoming bitcoin documentary, two different economists including Jeff Tucker from Ludwig Von Mises, Jon Matonis from Forbes and several entrepreneurs in the community. In under a month Matt. Give us a Summer and we'll be significantly further along. I just can't understand what the hell your issue is? I'm arrogant? Ok and? I've been friendly, open and answered hundreds of email questions over the past few weeks. I've always invited people in this community to share their knowledge- including you. But that doesn't matter because I said other projects aren't as important as mine? I believe this is where the community is at Matt. We are about to open the floodgates for millions of people to enter the ecosystem and there needs to be a serious effort towards a unified, community vetted and built point of entry. I'm sorry you feel it isn't important and you also feel the need to attack my integrity.
