781  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 02, 2014, 01:07:01 PM
It seems that rallies and crashes and blips and blops only occur when Huobi is active, which is only when the Chinese are awake and not having New Year's dim sum with their families.

And there are many bitcoin chart/statistics sites that do not even mention them...

bitstamp is still down
They're down for maintenance if I recall it correctly.

You want to move to Costa Rica on the whim of a dream?
Yup. Atleast look at the possibility to do so!

You need to search for expatriate blogs or forums for the countries you are interested in. This is a bitcoin forum  Grin
That's why I asked in the Off Topic section Smiley

If you're a dreamer, go for it. But tell your friends and family first  Grin.
I am a dreamer, so no problems! Cheesy However it is probably a good idea to tell my family and friends. I'm also pretty sure my mother will start to panic (she tends to do that when I leave my safe apartment in Sweden).
The biggest problem is how I'm going to fund it… I have a very limited amount of money haha...

Anyway, I'm thinking of this instead of Costa Rica: http://www.thisamericangirl.com/2013/05/08/please-dont-go-to-little-corn-island-nicaragua/

Ah yes, funds can be a problem. Do you not have m/any Bitcoins?
I've got some, however that will just cover the flight ticket and maybe a week of living… Probably have to work a for a while to save up some money. The positive thing is that it's really cheap to live there, so I won't have to save for that long! Cheesy

I'd put your dream on hold and hold those coins until they're worth a lot more, then go travelling. That's what I'm hoping to do.
That sounds like a plan… Well then, see you on the road in a few years from now! Cheesy

I have my address+key and address where I want to send BTC. What is the easiest way to do it? I would prefer online service. Also without registration (or really simple). Is there any service where I can just add these 3 informations and that's it? Thanks.
Don't you have some kind of client?

Hello there!

This night I had a dream in which I moved to Costa Rica. Since I woke up I now have been thinking about the possibility to do so.
I mean, it is cold, snowy and gray here in Sweden, I can speak some spanish (I'll probably learn it quickly if I go there to) and I love rain forests and warm oceans.
So, do anyone of you have any tips on where I should look for apartments, houses or something like that in Costa Rica (or the rest of Central America)? How are the temperatures at this time of the year? How much is the cost of living?
792  Other / Off-topic / Re: Book recommendation on: February 02, 2014, 10:41:58 AM
I'm a big fan of Terry Pratchett's work. I also enjoyed Mark Haddon's "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time."
I had to read that book in english when I still was in High School. I myself got an A on the test we did afterward, however a friend of mine didn't even get a grade, just the question "Did you actually read the book?".
Anyway, it is a good book.

794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHY ARE WE wasting so much computing power?Cant we get coins for helping science on: February 01, 2014, 11:24:03 PM
Well you keep working on that. I had a crazy idea today where people would just get paid for whatever they really wanted to do with their lives no matter productive or useless it was. Seems maybe there is room for that in the world. But if someone can write a program to solve things like mortality and women they can get great funding as is, it is a shortage of something beyond computing power is my take. I could be wrong.
Like this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_income

Lol, what? Solve things like moratlity and women?! Please explain! Cheesy
795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many bitcoins do you have (poll)? on: February 01, 2014, 11:12:44 PM
important is not how many btc u have but which price u bought it
Why would that be more important?

Paper wallet is not easy to set up by the way
Why do you think that?
797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHY ARE WE wasting so much computing power?Cant we get coins for helping science on: February 01, 2014, 10:43:40 PM
It is used for something. It is securing the first decentralized cryptocurrency from attack.

Monetary freedom is one of the most important things that can exist. So much good can come from people who are free.

cant this also be useful for solving better problems?

No, not with the current way proof of work is implemented in Bitcoin.

I suggest you read about the proof of work, how it is implemented in Bitcoin, and get a greater understanding before continuing down this path.

There have been many threads on this forum discussing this topic.

TL;DR: Work that has another purpose does not create any security for the block chain.

will bitcoins have to be mined forever to make it work forever?
Yep. Someone has to confirm the transactions.

But at that time one cpu can do all the work.

SO WE WILL be able to use the power once used for btc mining for solving better problems? How long will btc be mined?

140 more years and if you mean the asics no. Theyll be useless

Bitcoin will be "mined" forever, regardless of the block reward. If Bitcoin "mining" ends, Bitcoin transactions are no longer processed.

Bitcoin will be mined as long as Bitcoin is used.

At that point one cpu can mine

If you want transactions that can be rendered invalid by someone with two CPUs, sure.
There will still be lots people mining since there will still be a transaction fee to pay the miners.

I have 7592.39477210. Proof:

Code:
$ bitcoind getbalance
7592.39477210
Is that bitcoin balance, or balance of bitcoins in USD?

By default it's going to be BTC. I don't know if deamon offers mBTC yet, though it's output should state the unit, if options are avaliable.
What's suggested of course is not quite the proof that public addresses would be; I won't be convinced until I see the private keys for that.
The private keys? I highly doubt he will give you his private keys as proof haha Cheesy

example 1234 people want a new 3D PRINTER designed. They fund it like Kickstarter.com and whoever solves it get paid according to how much theyve solved.Obviously the 1234 people who want the design can mine too.

I don't really understand how it would even be created? It's not really like you just can say to your computer "Design a new 3D printer"!
