Hopefully it will be brought back with the new software!
522  Economy / Exchanges / Re: buying / selling bitcoin on: April 09, 2014, 12:43:45 PM
Bitstamp and BTC-e are two very popular exchanges.
I myself would recommend Bitstamp. It's serious, easy to use and has so far never been hacked.
523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is that OpenSSL bug enough for using bitcoin alert? on: April 09, 2014, 12:38:32 PM
I believe this is a situation where that would be good. I mean, why have the function, just to not use it?
It could save many people from losing their money.

Because it's an indirect exploit, hackers are not going to target individuals they will attack sites/servers etc (Mostly Linux) and alert feature is useless unless they are using alert-notify function and windows IIS is not vulnerable

Correct me If i am wrong.
They will probably mainly attack servers, however, there could be attacks against private persons as well.
I assumed that there would come up as a pop up window? I only know about alerts from Litecoin-QT.

I have around $1200 kept aside just for that and as soon as I understand whatever there is to understand about Bitcoins I will.

I have made another wallet at blockchain.info.
I'll look into multibit now. Private keys means password right?

Thanks
No, the private key is essentially the wallet. It is the unique code that contains your money and address. If someone else have it, they can do whatever they want with the funds on it.

Yes, Blockchain is the main site actually to deal with! Next you should read what is cloud wallet , mining (if you want to mine the coins) and you should read some press to know about present situation in BTC world!
And, finally, welcome and good luck! Buy and sell ! enjoy bitcoins  Wink
Still, you should avoid web based wallets completely. You should be the only one with access.

527  Other / Off-topic / Re: A lawyer.. on: April 09, 2014, 12:05:10 PM
There are all different types of lawyers...

Personally, if I were to be a lawyer I would go the route of being a patent lawyer or something that deals with business.
A patent lawyer? Really? That's kinda opposite of what bitcoin stands for.
528  Other / Off-topic / Re: You are transported to January 2013. What do you do? on: April 09, 2014, 09:36:08 AM
I would invest all my money in bitcoin and probably open an online business that have the main currency bitcoin.
I would invest all of my money in LTC, wait until November, sell them all and retire! Grin
Or maybe build my own country (I seem to get back to that idea)...
529  Other / Off-topic / Re: Windows XP Support Now Dead on: April 09, 2014, 09:12:27 AM
I am still using Windows XP is my favorite, but Windows seems to force people to use the news version   Sad
They cannot continue support for a 12 y.o. OS. It makes perfect sense.

Though now I have to convince my grand-mother that she have to install a lightweight linux like Lubuntu (her machine is from 2005). But does not want to, since a 70-80 year old man she know will come next summer and install Windows 7. Good luck I say.
530  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: April 09, 2014, 09:06:14 AM
A year ago 1k was completely unthinkable. Guess what? Last november we reached it!
So you think 10k is to much? Just wait and see. During my 1.5 years following bitcoin I've seen it rise from ~14$ to ~1200$.
Never say never, you know.
531  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi on: April 09, 2014, 08:59:17 AM
Hi,

Very new here, just made a wallet at coinbase because I don't know how else to get a bitcoin address?

What should I do next?
Get some bitcoins, lol! Cheesy

You should avoid web based wallets, I recommend MultiBit for a quick start! Smiley
Remember that if you're not the only one with access your private keys, you don't have any bitcoin.
532  Other / Off-topic / Re: If I started my own nation... on: April 09, 2014, 08:55:55 AM
are you serious? join some new county and defend it in military? no way
life is too precious to be on a whim of your business
Don't join then. Hopefully we wouldn't even have to defend it, loss of life is just unnecessary.
However, if they do attack we have to defend, otherwise we cannot build our utopia.

Btw, about this build a new island idea, since it's going to be built in international territory, that could interfere with the interests of all UN-nations.

how?

as the law goes who discoveres an island at least 12 miles away from shore of any country can claim it as its own, as we created it and claimed it I see nothing that could go against interests of all UN nations
If you build a new nation in a place that belongs to everyone, they might consider it to be territory stolen from them. I don't know if that would happen, but it's worth taking into consideration. It has never been tried before.
534  Other / Off-topic / Re: If I started my own nation... on: April 09, 2014, 08:02:06 AM
The same nation with bryant.coleman? No problem with me if you got hot babes in your nation.

Nope. It is different. I am trying to build an artificial island in the international waters. He is talking about seceding from an already sovereign nation. Both options have its own advantages, and disadvantages.  Grin

yes, but bryants version is legal and the other one is not

if we want international support and recognition we must do only what is legal Smiley
Just remember that his idea could be considered illegal according to international law, since none has ever tried that before (I totally support that idea anyway! Smiley).

Yes, it's true that my country would not be "legal", but then, who decides if it's legal or not? The rest of the world? Sure, they can tell me it's illegal, but that wouldn't change the fact that I had an independent country. This project (which is only hypotecally) would not give a fuck about what the rest of the world thought of us. Sure, they could invade us, but as long as we are willing to defend it against the invaders we could succeed (because if they invade and kill all people in a place that they do not recognize a country, it would be considered murder by the rest of the world).

It could be, I don't know. This was just an idea I got, so this could be a new island, or an island already claimed by some country.
Well then, I'll make sure there are some hot babes when I start it! Cheesy

will you legalise prostitution? Cheesy
Yes, if the prostituted person wanted to be prostituted it would be ok.

depends where the country would be located
In a warm place, like the Caribbean! Cheesy

http://www.ideabounty.com/blog/post/2655/spiral-island-ii-the-floating-plastic-island

Maybe something like this could be built, moved in to location, and serve as a base for the creation of something more permanent.
I've got to say it's really cool. Maybe we could build a floating archipelago around this new island we are going to build?
That would mean more people could live there!
539  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OpenSSL 'heartbleed' bug exposes memory blocks - including passwords. on: April 08, 2014, 06:03:40 PM
OpenSSL has been revealed to have a huge gaping hole.

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-26935905

Those who have been securing communications using https (which is essentially all of us) should change all passwords they have used with those systems.

Those who have used the same password in https that they have used to encrypt their wallets - yeah, you can figure that out, right?  An attacker may have the old password.  You should be using a different one.

This is quite bad. That'd mean I'd have to change almost all of my passwords… Geez, that will take some time!
At least my wallet is encrypted with a completely different password.
540  Other / Off-topic / If I started my own nation... on: April 08, 2014, 05:54:37 PM
If I started my own nation, would you join?
Would you be willing to by military means defend against the country from which we stole our territory from?
We would be a nation with the principles of "Be nice" (yes, marijuana would be legal).
We would be a nation where you only work a few hours a week with communal stuff like farming, fishing or building, and in exchange you'd get a house to live in and organic food (and most of the time you could whatever you want, like: lie on the beach and getting high).
Weapons would be banned unless we were invaded (there would be no reason to have them otherwise).
Hard drugs would be illegal (like heroin or cocain).
We would live in harmony with nature, and our electricity would be 100% renewable.
We would have a direct-democracy, so everyone could get their voice through.
Yeah, basically start an utopia?

Which of you would join?
