I hate to be so pessimistic, but this guy is probably lying about this entire situation in order to get free BTC.  Every one of his posts in this thread has something to the effect of:
I'm depressed
I'm poor
This is all I had

83  Economy / Economics / Re: 2013 Taxes on: February 01, 2014, 11:32:34 PM
I figure some small and large businesses may be filing net gain or loss. But I was wondering what individuals may choose to do this tax season.
I would if I made anything significant.  I don't think the IRS cares too much about my 3 $0.50 gains.

Make an offer in this thread.  I don't have any minimum price in mind.  I will accept or reject offers based on the following factors:
  • Offering Price
  • The weather
  • Whether or not I've had a good day

Escrow with a mutually-trusted third party acceptable at your cost.  If you choose not to use Escrow, you will send the funds first.  Must have a NameCheap account for domain name transfer.
85  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-01-31] Forbes - Silk Road Vendor Filing Claim For Seized Bitcoins on: February 01, 2014, 09:55:49 PM
For those confused by the $95K number.  Pull up a year long Bitcoin chart.  Lookup exchange rate at the time the silk road was closed.   Multiply that by 1000.  It isn't $95K.
Oh, yeah, that makes sense.  I wonder if he kept all of his revenue on SR or if he has a bigger stash offline.

On Thursday, Ward began the process of retaining a lawyer to file a claim for what he says were 100 bitcoins–worth around $95,000 at current exchange rates–seized by the FBI in the takedown of the Silk Road online black market for drugs last October. Unlike most of Silk Road’s sellers, Ward says he earned his bitcoins through entirely legal means, offering the same merchandise that he advertises on the public Internet from his head shop Planet Pluto in Devon, England.

There were many legal sellers on Silk Road. I had money on deposit on SR at the time of the seizure for coin mixing purposes as the SR mixer was huge and provided a pretty good protection against taint analysis for the cost of transaction fees only. If my deposit was worth more I'd be doing the same thing.

Go PlutoPete! I'm so happy that it's him who decided to fight this. For those who don't know, PlutoPete was well known on SR he sold pipes, papers and bongs and had written before about how he registered his Silk Road business with tax authorities in the UK.

Also interesting:

All of that means the FBI, who were in communication with the NCA, should have considered Ward’s claim to some of the Silk Road bitcoins, according to Steven L. Kessler, an asset forfeiture lawyer who Ward is in the process of retaining. “The statute requires that if the government of the United States has knowledge of an individual with an asset subject to forfeiture, the owner has to get notice,” says Kessler.
This is going to be a fun argument to hear.  How many bongs did he sell to get $95k in revenue?
88  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your answer to "Bitcoin is a Ponzi Scheme" ? on: February 01, 2014, 06:36:54 PM
Other people call Bitcoin a "Pyramid bubble"

Wikipedia
A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to its investors from existing capital or new capital paid by new investors, rather than from profit earned by the individual or organization running the operation. Operators of Ponzi schemes usually entice new investors by offering higher returns than other investments, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent. The perpetuation of the high returns requires an ever-increasing flow of money from new investors to sustain the scheme.[1]

When a Ponzi scheme is not stopped by the authorities, it sooner or later falls apart for one of the following reasons:[1]
The promoter vanishes.

Satoshi Nakamoto vanished
There's no person or company that is paying out profits to investors.

Why would you ever use these emails with an employer?
91  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: THERE IS NO TAX and there NEVER be any Tax on Bitcoin on: January 31, 2014, 08:55:00 PM
Nothing stops the gov from making a crypto currency of their own, or banning the sales of BitCoin to US residents (USD--> BTC)

Why would anybody choose to use it? The whole point of crypto is to get away from the government.
That's not true at all.  Bitcoin itself (the protocol) doesn't have any preconceptions about governments at all.  That's all from some of the people using it.  Your ideals != everyone else's ideals.

The attorney, who helped obtain regulatory clearance for the first U.S. ETF more than 20 years ago, said the Bitcoin proposal has almost no chance of being approved in 2014.
Well, I'm pretty sure that all ETF's take months-years to be approved by the SEC.  I doubt that it's just because of Bitcoin (although I'm sure it does make the process more complicated).
94  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Legal best practices on: January 31, 2014, 08:44:00 PM
Can we at this stage draw any best practices from a legal point of view of what is need as a legal framework in order to operate as a business
Very generic framework:
get your stuff together, file what you need to file, prepare for a grinding halt if you fail to comply. Roll Eyes
Pretty much this.  The reason that you haven't seen companies like Coinbase (MtGox actually has had a seizure in the U.S.) stopping operations is that they did their due diligence (they got their stuff together, filed what they needed to file, etc.).
95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Fast confirm? on: January 31, 2014, 08:39:18 PM
You need to pay 0.1 mBTC per 1000 Byte of your transaction.

1 input is about 180 byte.

So if you have 1000 Inputs you'll need to pay at least 18 mBTC or 0.018 BTC to send it.

There is no going around that.

And how much time it would take to confirm?

As long as you pay the min fee, it should get included in a block soon even for a huge tx.

It might take a bit more time if you pay min fee, but it will eventually get confirmed, because some pools don't take low-fee transactions.
If he needs it done ASAP, he should probably put 1.2x - 1.5x that fee.

Best offer over .5 BTC takes it.   I will also include an 8gh does 9gh BFL Jalepeno .  That would be best offer over .8 BTC

These chips are harder to come by.

Let me know.
How do we know if you even have these items?  You would have much better luck if you post a picture of the item.

Hi all,

This months payments have been made!

A few people have mentioned that they want me to use a different exchange rate. I'm starting to lose hope in MtGox ever sorting their banking issues out so from next month I'll be considering Preev.com (thanks marcotheminer). Do thye have an api?

Also I'm gonna free up 2 slots due to inactivity:

i3lome
polrpaul

I don't have enough time to go through and find who asked first. If you see this post and have posted before, link me to your earlier post saying you wanted to join and add the siggy. You'll be included in next months pay. (You have a week to claim your spot from today).

Thanks all.

See you next payday.
Thanks, Seal!  Can you change my payment address to 18G85v1wvSYVdRcajKEHdHqhyAiRTmQnYd (it's my long-term paper wallet)?
