801  Economy / Goods / [SOLD] Samsung Galaxy S4 AT&T 16GB - used for 1 week! 4.8 BTC on: May 18, 2013, 10:40:52 PM
I tried going to the dark side with an Android phone, and just couldn't grow to love it.  I used it for 8 days, then factory restored and put it back in the packaging today.  Headphones were tried once for a short while, and I didn't like them (I don't like any of them that "seal" to the ear).  It is AT&T locked, but has a clean ESN and all that.  Also comes with an Otterbox Commuter case (again, used for only 8 days) and 4 extra USB cables bought from Monoprice.  Everything is in mint condition and works perfectly.

Want 4.8 BTC.

Nice!  And dang, at the same time, the power efficiency isn't enough for you to help me win my bet with Micon.  Sad  Unless you manage to find a way to measure wattage at the jack instead of at the wall.

At the jack?  Not sure what you mean...
Basically, measuring anywhere after the power brick, so you aren't taking in to account the power brick's inefficiencies.  To do this, you'd have to either cut the wires and connect an in-line measurement device, or you could simply split the two wires from each other (keeping the insulation on them is just fine) and use a clamp meter around one of the wires to measure amperage, calculating total wattage from there.

Clamp meters don't require the wires to be separated out. An easier way than cutting wires would be to make a simple adapter out of a male and female power jack (whatever size the adapter uses). This way you could just plug it in, inline with the adapter, without actually having to alter the adapter itself at all.
They don't?  Is that because it's DC instead of AC?  I know on AC power, they do have to be separated out.

806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Excel formula to convert DER key to Base58? on: May 15, 2013, 04:22:24 PM
Alternatively, is there an offline brainwallet.org I can use?  Can I just save that page and use it offline?

You can use bitaddress offline, not sure about brainwallet.
Thanks, that'll do for now I suppose...!

I don't understand why anyone thinks Ripple is a good idea in its current form.
808  Economy / Auctions / Re: * AUCTION - SERIES 1 Casascius coin * on: May 15, 2013, 03:49:00 PM
btw I would recommend the Firefox add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/En-us/firefox/addon/foxclocks/ which shows world times including GMT/UTC in your status bar, very useful & doesn't rob your wallets also.
I appreciate add-ons that don't rob my wallets also.
809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Excel formula to convert DER key to Base58? on: May 14, 2013, 11:13:57 PM
Say I have a HEX private key derived from the DER format like so:  c4bbcb1fbec99d65bf59d85c8cb62ee2db963f0fe106f483d9afa73bd4e39a8a

Is there an excel formula I can use to convert it to the typical Base58 private key format?

I know I can get the SHA256 formula here:  http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/excel-questions/468698-sha256-hash-function.html

Alternatively, is there an offline brainwallet.org I can use?  Can I just save that page and use it offline?

811  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dwolla can no longer process deposits or withdrawals to MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 08:26:35 PM
Interestingly, the price is rebounding right back up.  I wasn't expecting that at all.
812  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dwolla can no longer process deposits or withdrawals to MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 08:18:40 PM
Good news is that if you managed to sell on word of this news at 116+ like I did, you'll be able to buy back in some cheap coins soon.

If you haven't sold yet, sell now!

Bitcoins will be on sale, probably just temporarily though.
I could have sold at $118.... if my yubikey was with me.  Sad
813  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dwolla can no longer process deposits or withdrawals to MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 07:42:40 PM
Wait, I'm confused....

People are still using Mt.Gox?
Who else are you going to use?  Everyone else has lax security or no US-customer options.
814  Economy / Goods / Re: Thinking about creating my own physical Bitcoin... on: May 14, 2013, 07:36:40 PM
I wonder if I could do a kickstarter to get this thing off the ground...  Hmmm...

Go and try at the Bitcoin kickstarter.
You mean Bitcoinstarter.com?  Has anything ever been funded there?  I was under the impression it was still below "critical mass" to be useful.  Maybe I could run parallel campaigns on both kickstarter.com and bitcoinstarter.com, and let one pick up the slack on the other as needed.
815  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dwolla can no longer process deposits or withdrawals to MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 07:33:05 PM
Well, that's inconvenient.

I have indeed.  5 BTC worth of business...

How many quality firstbit addresses do you have? What will you do when you run out?
Around 15,000 is my best guesstimate.  I had around 25,000 that I purposefully "reserved", but as far as which ones of those are good firstbits, I'd guess around 15,000.  Maybe less, maybe more.  These include patterns like neat numbering sequences, letter sequences, english words, and various names.

When I run out?  Start a new series that isn't hinged upon firstbits...!

If I were sgtspike I'd sell those ones at a premium.

Mind you, forstbits have gone a bit out of fashion
They have, but there's no reason they can't go back into fashion again.  Wink

1xxxxx and shorter are fairly easy to generate, I'm sure he can make more.
I can't make more if they are already taken.  I couldn't make two 1sexy coins, for instance, because the 1sexy firstbits would already be taken by the first one.  And I think most, if not all, 5 letter English words are already used in the blockchain at this point.

Definitely interested in 1 BTC silver rounds!  The market needs competition.
Thanks for the feedback!
