1. make fake paypal account and verify it with fake info
2. buyers send payments to that account
3. use that account send money to your main account (for added legitimacy, buy it using ebay)

8485  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why do the exchanges use temporary deposit addresses? on: June 12, 2011, 07:57:41 AM
Would an end user not prefer to have a permanent address to which they can send BTC to their exchange account?

  Ah ha!
Simply appears to be a design issue.  By expiring addresses after a certain amount of time those expired addresses no longer clog up the list that is used to determine which account the funds received should go to.  This is an easily solved problem so perhaps the exchange will at some point allow addresses to be static and available for re-use.

8486  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the Bitcoin network Slow today? Please Help! on: June 12, 2011, 07:46:58 AM
Because I don't know what on earth went wrong, ok? If I request a withdrawal to me, and 3 hrs later I still see nothing on my screen, how can I be sure that if I do exactly the same thing to my buyer, he WILL get the bitcoins within a reasonable amount if time!

When you withdraw from Mt. Gox, the transaction will be announced to the network and after some time it will show up in a block.  To see if a transaction has been processed by a block look at BlockExplorer:

The delay between when you send bitcoins (e.g,. withdraw from Mt. Gox) to when that transaction appears in BlockExplorer can range from just seconds to many minutes -- unless the transaction is deemd "low priority" and then it could take hours even.

Before the transaction is included in a block it will likely have been seen by Bitcoin Charts which publishes a list of Unconfirmed Transactions (unconfirmed, as in it has not yet been included in a block):

In most instances, when the payment appears in either of those site view the recipient should be able to feel comfortable that payment has been sent and is truly enroute.
8487  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Dwolla to Mt. Gox vs. Dwolla to TradeHill on: June 12, 2011, 07:25:46 AM
Stephen I like what you wrote.  One thing that confuses me is ..ok my money is at mtgox I've put my buy order in and lets say it gets filled then how is the Bitcoins sent to me and from who?

The bitcoins you buy are added to your bitcoin balance in your exchange account.

If you wish to withdraw those bitcoins to your local wallet or to send them anywhere else, use the link for Withdraw:

8488  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Dwolla to Mt. Gox vs. Dwolla to TradeHill on: June 12, 2011, 07:21:32 AM
Here's copypasta from my dwolla account:

Sent To: Mutum Sigillum LLC
Sent On: 6/10/2011 3:03:10 PM
Expected Clearing Date: 6/16/2011 by 5PM CST

Even ignoring the weekend, this is 3 days. I'm calling Dwolla.

Three business days.

Dwolla certainly doesn't have your funds yet.
8489  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Eliminating Arbitrage on: June 12, 2011, 07:14:40 AM
I added Tradehill more than an hour ago.

The exchange now treats LR USD as a separate currency.  Could you add an entry for that to your site?
8490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Exchange Arbitrage Opportunities on: June 12, 2011, 07:13:27 AM
The price differences between the various exchanges can be quite big,

There's an app for that!

It was a page with two columns, showing buy and sell, and how much volume on each price, from Mt. Gox. Uhh yeah...really simple website..

8492  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Is it true that you can't withdraw more than $1000 per day from MtGox? on: June 12, 2011, 06:32:48 AM
is it becauseof US legislation?

The exchange is based out of Japan.  Businesses there too have anti-money laundering restrictions in which this Know Your Customer requirement applies.
8493  Economy / Economics / Re: Have any major sites announced that they will accept bitcoin? on: June 12, 2011, 06:29:11 AM
Right now among the most recognizable names that accept Bitcoin as a payment method.

 - Wuala by LaCie http://wuala.com/bitcoin
 - Memory Dealers http://www.memorydealers.com
 - VirWoX exchange http://www.virwox.com

The biggest name tied to Bitcoin is Google:
Google pays the salary for an engineer who works on BitcoinJ as part of his 20% time project.

And there has been a couple of well known individuals involved with Bitcoin:
  - Randall Munroe creator of XKCD (mines bitcoin, trades on #bitcoin-otc)

  - Jason Calacanis, This Week in Startups show has Bitcoin as a recurring topic
  - Steve Gibson, Security Now show has Bitcoin as a recurring topic

Indirectly, bitcoins are already being used to make purchases at big names globally:
  - Buy Amazon gift cards with bitcoins http://www.bitplank.com/products/amazon-com-gift-card-25
  - Buy NewEgg gift cards with bitcoins http://www.btcbuy.info
  - Buy VISA / Mastercard prepaid cards
8494  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: another transaction is already in process please try again later (mtgox) on: June 12, 2011, 05:17:48 AM
i got that error during the price drop today when i tried to sell some of the btcs. The trade never got registered - several times. Anyone else having the same issue? was mtgox shut down bc of traffic?

This is a problem acknowledged by the operator of the exchange.  It happens when there are too many attempts to enter orders.

If Mt. Gox is at capacity and unable to accommodate the heavy trading maybe the entrance of TradeHill is where those finding the errors will start to head.  Mt. Gox has been working on new software and perhaps when that is in place the situation will improve as well.

I'm glad it's the currency of the future for I love waiting inordinate amounts of time for blocks to sync and for transactions to be verified!!!

Getting started using the bitcoin client does take some time.  Perhaps an eWallet such as MyBitcoin.com would be a little more convenient for you?
8496  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the Bitcoin network Slow today? Please Help! on: June 12, 2011, 03:08:28 AM
Good try DonnyCMU. Ignore this scammer.

What the hell??? I'm initiating the payment, and Mt.Gox transfer can't be reversed (... right?)

I too wondering why you don't just buy bitcoins using those Mt. Gox USD and send the bitcoins yourself.  It'll cost you less than 5%.
8497  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Dwolla to Mt. Gox vs. Dwolla to TradeHill on: June 12, 2011, 02:14:21 AM
Anything would be better than Mt. Gox right now which says it will take nearly a WEEK to take the dollars I sent it via Dwolla.

I think you might have misunderstood something.

Dwolla is a cash service.  Getting cash into dwolla is what takes a long time.  From there, sending the cash already sitting in your Dwolla to either Mt. Gox or TradeHill is fairly quick.   Technically, it happens instantly -- Dwolla's debits your Dwolla account for the amount you sent and then credits the Dwolla account to whom you sent funds.

Now, the method that the exchange uses to then credit your account at the exchange with the funds received will vary per exchange.

Mt. Gox processes Dwolla transactions manually and sporadically [Update: see MagicalTux's response, below].  Because that exchange is likely in a different time zone than you, their daytime schedule is likely different from yours.  As the result, instead of that batch being processed in minutes, it can take hours, or a dozen hours maybe [Update: an hour] before it is processed.

TradeHill, based out of Chile, might have an automated method so it is processed instantaneously or a manual process that runs more frequently or has operating hours that are in the same time zone as you.

If you have sent funds from Dwolla to the exchange and it has taken more than one business day for those funds to become credited to your account on that exchange, then that's not normal.

Re. my experience: I work in IT as an entrepreneur and mostly have experience with LAMP servers, PHP, MySQL, Wordpress, shell scripting and some ajax/js coding.

Wordpress?  Have you built any wordpress sites using WP e-Commerce?  There is a growing need for people who can provide assistance to Wordpress users who wish to add Bitcoin as a payment option to their ecommerce site.

8499  Economy / Marketplace / Re: avoiding chargebacks on: June 12, 2011, 01:37:33 AM
is there any way to make it so a chargeback isnt possible.  like transferring from one pp to another.  or making a new bank account then getting your money out right away?

PayPal has protections against these tactics.  As soon as you receive a more than a normal amount of activity, PayPal might impose a rolling reserve.  When they do so a certain percent (e.g., 5%) of what you receive gets held for a long period of time.

The delay after transferring funds to your bank is 3 days or more after you've made the transfer.  So usually if a chargeback occurs, it will happen before your bank has the funds.  And even if you did get to withdraw those funds, PayPal can initiate an ACH pull to claw back previously sent funds so kiss away the ability to use that bank account without PayPal getting theirs.

So, to summarize. no, there is no way to make PayPal more like Bitcoin  with regards to irrrevocable payments.

8500  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox wants nine confirmations now? on: June 11, 2011, 10:22:49 PM
I've been doing a few transfers lately and none of them show up after 6. The last one I did wasn't in until 9 confirmations had shown up. One before I think might have taken 11.

When testing was performed so as to have the correct measure for the Wiki page, there were inconsistent results between six and seven.  Blocks are being generated quite quickly at the moment, due to a lot of additional capacity having come online since the last difficulty adjustment.  It's entirely possible that the exchange also has imposed a minimum wait for based on a time clock (e.g., 1 hour) as well.

If not, perhaps the exchange is having trouble handling the volume in a timely manner.
