8587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unusual activity on Bitcoin Monitor? on: May 22, 2011, 01:46:26 AM
This is an example of the type of noise that makes useless the metrics for the total number of transactions and the total BTCs transacted over a period of time.

Bitcoin Watch shows that there was about $4 million worth of BTC that traded in the past 24 hours:
These types of transactions cause that metric to mean relatively nothing.

The BitcoinDays Destroyed metric will provide a more useful metric:
8588  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Bounty] Publish result of Days Destroyed calculation on: May 22, 2011, 01:43:18 AM
Do you just want a total for each block, or a calculation for each transaction in each block?

The total BitcoinDays Destroyed for each block.
8589  Bitcoin / Project Development / [PAID] Publish result of Days Destroyed calculation on: May 22, 2011, 01:25:42 AM
This is a bounty award to develop a script to compute the BitcoinDays Destroyed by the transactions in a block.

Description:
Scan all the transactions in the block chain and dump out a .csv file that shows BitcoinDays Destroyed calculation result per block.

Requirements:
  - Accesses block chain using bitcointools  (see the project's statistics.py as an example)
      http://github.com/gavinandresen/bitcointools
  - Developed in python and licensed MIT/X11
  - BitcoinDays Destroyed Calculation following ByteCoin's recommendation:
      http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=6172.msg90789#msg90789
  - [edit: ] accept (optional) block number argument  to produce calculation result total for a single block.

The bounty so far is: 10 BTC
8590  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Congratulations to the owner of "19JWKd..."! Winner of 128 BTC on BitLotto on: May 21, 2011, 10:15:23 PM
there is a discrepancy between the balance of the address (52) and received (67).  There have been 15 BTC sent _from_ that address.  Can you please explain this?

When I spot checked a few of the spend transactions I see that they were used as part of the payout for the May 4th draw.  When the May proceeds were forwarded to the winner, the Bitcoin software chose which coins to use when spending that transaction.

If you notice, the address for wagering on the May 4th draw still shows a balance even though all 128 BTC were forwarded to the BitLotto winner: http://blockexplorer.com/address/18dts6fXXA7jVKfYMBpsFqx7iZCELCfDpk

Adding up the balances for each of the draws shows a total slightly higher than the outstanding total wagers yet.  Thus at this point in time the wallet holds enough coins to payout all coins wagered so far.

So I can start Aleqibitcoin from scratch right?

Also, without any changes to the source other than the id and the port, I hope you don't mind a few hundred GHash/s unwinding and double spending transactions:

Hey guys, I've been on the forums recently, I've paid out several BTC for similar errands (last time I was trying to cap out my dropbox space).

Would be nice to see you listed in the OTC web of trust (WoT).  The OTC WoT can be used regardless of whether or not your trading is done here on the forum, on the #bitcoin-otc marketplace, or anywhere.
  http://bitcoin-otc.com/trust.php

[edit] You might find a wider number of willing participants once you have a rating and history in the WoT.

Here's web access to the #bitcoin-otc IRC channel:

  http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#bitcoin-otc

Registering w/ GPG isn't necessary to trade there unless you want an order added to the web order book or a trust rating.

You might find someone there in #bitcoin-otc willing to assist with your trade.

To register with GPG you'll need GnuPG:

and once you have that, the steps for creating your GPG key:

8598  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to make bitcoin mainstream = Ebay on: May 19, 2011, 07:12:47 AM

Ebay is an auction site.  PayPal is one of the payment methods for sending payment.  Bitcoin is another.

It is happening.

   [Click "See Full Description"] :
"For this auction I am willing to take bitcoin or paypal."

Bio: "Oh, by the way, I accept Bitcoins."

In addition to seeing Bitcoin appear in more listings and profiles, I expect to see ClearCoin start appearing as an escrow method.  Combining bitcoins for payment and ClearCoin for escrow is a combination that has so going for it.  There's almost no other alternative for affordable escrow for $100 or less purchases.  Add in the #bitcoin-otc gpg Web of Trust and there no reason these tools can't be used by a wider user base.
