861  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why bitcoin will hit 100000$/BTC in 2014. My conspiracy theory on: January 12, 2014, 06:12:02 AM
Oh, you mean 100 satoshis?  That seems like a reasonable way to price a tooth brush.  Don't like that, how about 1 microbtc?

That doesn't change the fact it's still a ridiculous fraction of a whole value.

So what if it is 1/100,000,000th?  Guess what a penny is?  Roughly 1/2,100,000,000,000,000th of the worlds money supply.

If what's 1/100,000,000th? What does the worlds money supply have to do with this?

After deciding on 21,000,000 total coins, Satoshi estimated the worlds money supply and set the divisibility so that if bitcoin was the only money in the world, 1 satoshi (1/100,000,000th of a bitcoin, the smallest portion of a bitcoin currently) would be valued at roughly a penny.
862  Economy / Economics / Re: Does bitcoin foster economic growth or stagnation? on: January 12, 2014, 06:07:02 AM
Deflation is terrible.... If you have debt denominated in that currency.  Otherwise, no problem.  The only victims of deflationary death spirals are debtors.  Everyone else sees a drop in prices and wages eventually follow, but cheaper goods and services balance it.

Read Adam Smith.  He describes historical inflationary and deflationary periods that occurred during the time of metal based money.

Deflation isn't the enemy, but high debt loads and central planning can make it a menace.

As a potential investor, I was wondering if you would consider doing recycling of electronics.  You could recycle purchased items that a beyond repair, as well as accept bulk electronics by the pound for recycling.  I know I have tons of old shit that has to be more valuable than garpage dump filler.  At the very least, there is bound to be some gold in them.

In addition, what about GPUs?  I'm sure there are lots of used GPUs in the bitcoin community that should have decent resale value.
866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can your face serve as your Bitcoin address? on: January 12, 2014, 04:20:53 AM
just take a picture of your face and do a sha256sum.  then to decrypt, do it again.  although the lighting and facial expression must remain exactly the same!  also the zits on your face must be in the same position

867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can your face serve as your Bitcoin address? on: January 11, 2014, 11:52:13 PM
The point is that it allows you (the owner of the face) to be paid without using a QR code . . . I'm not talking about a biometric private key. . . for that you'd use DNA or a retina scan, presumably.

A uniquely identifiable facial recognition scan is -- by definition -- a biometric identifier.

Do you mean the scan is the public key? How are you going to do this without the exposure of the private key? How will you account for 'CRC errors' in the public key, due to inaccuracies?

He means that after the scan encodes the biometric information, it is sent to a web service that looks up your address in a database.
868  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 11, 2014, 05:57:46 AM
we need to see some serious volume either tonight or early morning tomorrow or this "bullish" breakout is looking very bearish indeed...

I'm starting to think you're right.... Now what to drop from the shopping cart?  The iClebo robotic vacuum, the kitchenaid mixer, or the breville oven?

Or do I wait until tomorrow and hope for the whole lot? ($913 coinbase)

Unhodling is hard.
869  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 11, 2014, 05:17:01 AM
So I need $913 on coinbase to afford my o.co order with the BTC on my phone.  Make it happen people! Tongue

871  Economy / Speculation / Re: Single digits this weekend? on: January 10, 2014, 08:27:33 AM
And again a single digits post..
Who is going to make the next topic next week announcing single digits?

Don't you get it?  Next week we will be at single digits.  So the threads will be those crazy bulls calling for double digits.

Silly bulls.
872  Economy / Speculation / Re: Its going down in a few hours on: January 10, 2014, 07:51:38 AM
I see the right shoulder forming.... For an inverse head and shoulders pattern. Tongue

It's sloppy, but neckline 950ish, head at 875, shoulder bottoms 900, target 1000-1050.
873  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Volatility trends are mostly down since 2010. on: January 10, 2014, 06:55:43 AM
Wasn't the price of 1btc actually a very stable growth till about sometime around the middle of last year when the price just skyrocket? Seems like the price has been more volatile in the last 6-8 months then ever before. I might be wrong though

Only if you ignore the summer of 2011.

2011 was nothing compared to what it did last year only about 4 months ago

If you look at it in terms of dollars the price moved, yes the price of 1 BTC has grown by a lot more dollars lately. But if you look at it in percentage terms, 2011 moved much quicker.  $0.1-$32 only took only 9 months.  If we started back at the $65 low that this rally to $1240 began at, 320x would be $20,800.
874  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 10, 2014, 06:42:22 AM
I wish you luck sir.  Don't miss the train.

I take that as a rather bullish statement.  Do you have any particulars that you would share here?

DCA means...?

Take your pick: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DCA

Hint: Other Uses

And, nothing in particular, just a mixture of chart gazing with my favorite indicators at lots of time frames across several exchanges, my daily scans of this forum guaging fundamentals and sentiment, and of course, my mood plays a role whether I want it to or not.  Oh, and I first missed the train when it hit $3.  That was three times what I was going to make at $1, and I was already doubling my hardware investment at $1.  It had to come back down and I could easily get more coins.  It didn't come back down until after $32, and was only that low again for a brief window many months later.  I don't ever again want to be faced with selling more than a tiny % and having to decide between holding fiat for months and hoping for a small window of opportunity or just taking the fiat and hope I can DCA my way back to an acceptable stash.  I still trade, quite profitably, but only with a small portion.  That way, I keep my stress low and can make good decisions.
875  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 10, 2014, 06:26:25 AM
DCA is the best way to grow a stash.  Trying to pick bottoms is the best way to shrink a stash.
876  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 10, 2014, 06:18:44 AM
time to test support levels is it ?

yes

and

i'm ready, i was born ready!

What is your target @ stamp adam ?

i start buying at 700, i go ape shit at 650

Thats it? You think we have resistance at 700 to 650?

I was thinking closer to 550.

I wish you luck sir.  Don't miss the train.
877  Economy / Speculation / Re: U.S. Justice Department have access to the Ulbricht’s bitcoin cache on: January 09, 2014, 01:56:01 AM
Is the money evidence, or just the wallet and the blockchain?

Regardless, it is seized property and can't be sold until the owner is convicted.
878  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 09, 2014, 12:55:53 AM
Hey Bitcoin gods. I'm doing the longest time thing and all. But I'd like to get filthy rich tonight, so would you mind hurrying up Grin

You'll have to w8 a bit , the guys in rpietila lounge are talking about a drop to 500 =))))

The girls aren't though.  Grin  I don't think we will ever see 500 again!  Even BitChicksHusband thinks I am overly bullish and a little too exuberant at times so keep that in mind.  I could be totally wrong.
It would be really easy to see 500- again if something else happens in china and huobi starts going down or the Chinese exchanges get shut down. Basically all the exchanges are still slaves to the huobi manipulation and without it there is no real support. The order books and volume are a joke - so tiny compared to earlier last year before china. When the shit really hits the fan in china then its game on.

Bids are at an all time high in dollar terms on gox:
879  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone noticed the parity between exchanges? on: January 09, 2014, 12:53:14 AM

I am sorry for the confusion, you are right. I didn't mean to imply that you can trade them.

do you really feel like you need to tell everyone in your signature that you're gay?

do you really feel like you need to tell everyone by your postings that you're a complete moron?

Do you really feel like you need to tell everyone by your posting that you don't pay attention for months on end?

So... How about that parity.  You know, on the exchanges.
880  Economy / Speculation / Re: Downtrend started? on: January 08, 2014, 11:05:01 PM
I know a smattering of rails, and very little about security. I'll get right on a leveraged exchange, I've registered passiveaggressiveunironicallyironicpermabullcoinica.com

I know all about "security".  Here, use my rails fork: https://github.com/yrral86/rails

Just make sure you frequently update your gems so you will always have the latest "security" patches.  I will also gladly review your code for "security" vulnerabilities, for the good of the coin bling, of course.  Just let me know when mining starts.
