883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] yacoin: yet another altcoin. START is now. on: May 10, 2013, 02:05:45 PM

you make valid and solid points, but therz always a catch, m speciality is networks, but the little i know about crypto coins shows that with current implementations, its either  you go the cpu way and deal with botnets or you go gpu and hash it out with 100000 people who have this.
http://www.btcpedia.com/list-of-bitcoin-mining-pools/

i think the community will watch this coin beacuse it had a fair launch and it is still not too late to jump on the train, and looking at the difficulty figures i think someone will compile cgminer for this within a month.

So I'll ask you 2 questions:

1. Isn't YACoin a Scrypt based coin?
2. Are those miners in that picture Scrypt hashing?

For sake of argument let's say the YACoin wasn't a scrypt based coin and that the picture was of 1 person's mining farm.  Wouldn't you want 100000 people having the same set up for your coin?  Decentralization is good right?
884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is FTC / FC dead? on: May 10, 2013, 01:51:24 PM
From a noob's perspective it might look that way, but if you look at what actually happened. FTC had a great launch, nicely timed no head start, no pre-mine,  lot's of people jumped on it and the hash rate went though the roof in no time. As the difficulty increases started to kick in to compensate, we suddenly had the unexpected release of CNC at a much lower difficulty putting it far higher than FTC on coinchoose.com, so miners simply jumped ship, that caused the difficulty on FTC to remain high, so more miners jumped ship.

Sorry mate. You lost out. Your FTC are sinking fast and soon to be worthless. Like one of the posters above wrote, FTC was a 100% perfectly executed pump-and-dump. Your pals who were singing the praises of FTC 2 weeks ago are now long gone and have left those naive enough to invest in FTC hanging high and dry. The community that was FTC is fast becoming a ghost town. It's over erk, it's over.

I mined my FTC so they have been nicely profitable, and I will mine them again when the difficulty drops and they will still be nicely profitable, FTC is the 3rd most traded alt on BTC-e only beaten by CNC and LTC, way ahead of NVC, TRC,PPC, and NMC in volume of BTC traded for them(or dollar value if you want to work it out). If you call coming 3rd dead, then I can't help you.

886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] yacoin: yet another altcoin. START is now. on: May 10, 2013, 01:40:39 PM
The early days of Litecoin followed a very similar path as YACoin is doing right now.  A CPU only coin is a very good idea because it makes mining for most of the world with a computer a no brainer.  The designer's intentions are genuine but we also have to take into account the realities of the world we live in.  Early Litecoin adoption by botnet operators made them all rich.  And truth be told, they are once again glad a CPU only coin is back in play.

Next up for YAC will be a discussion of how decentralized the network is when large groups own the majority of hashing power.  Resistance to 51% attacks is limited if non existent.  Will the community step up?  Do the majority of new "crypto-bugs" even know what any of this means?

The LTC Community fought at least 2 such attacks and won (1st by Luke-Jr & 2nd by BCX) No other coin has survived even one (including Bitcoin - there have been worries with pools getting too big, but no planned attacks to take the currency down).  Litecoin also owes a little bit of gratitude to Solid:facepalm:Coin for building the Reaper protocol.  While their intention was yet again to take down Litecoin by turning it into a GPU coin, they actually strengthened the base and helped to make it a stronger DE-centralized network.  Botnets using CPU power lost their strong advantage over miners armed with GPUs.

While we all love the idea of a CPU only coin at what cost do we see if it is worth trying AGAIN.
One thing is for sure...  The Botnets aren't complaining.
887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A proposed fair premine idea on: May 10, 2013, 01:00:05 PM
-----------------------THREAD SUMMARY THUS FAR---------------------

OP has a subject line containing an oxymoron.  "Fair" & "Premine"
This sets up a debate on purposes of crypto coins: for betterment or for profit
blah, blah, blah.  many arguments about opensource and historic precedence.

Summary conclusion question: If the point of SN's Bitcoin project was to flip the financial system on it's head and not to get rich quickly, and it's proving successful, then what is the point of all the imitations (alts)?

Discussions of to premine or not, to make such and such coin with different block times and total coin amounts are all mute if the original idea (Bitcoin) is doing it's thing.  No matter how a creator of a new coin wraps their argument up with a pretty bow, the clear goal is to get rich quick. Otherwise they would be helping Bitcoin be the best it can be.  The groundwork is there, growth will come with time.  Are you following Satoshi's steps of fixing a broken financial system or are you trying to find the elusive golden egg?

Bitcoin isn't broken, so which is it?

Would love to get XRP pricing from BitStamp.

Me too. Any idea where I might find an API call returning said price?

I'll look.  Looks like Ripplecharts.com is grabbing a feed from somewhere.

No i still won't go first. I'll just use escrow and whomever wants the escrow can pay the fees. I'm tired of scumbags scamming me

So you'll pay fees since you want escrow  Huh

Nope. I'm buying XRP because I want more XRP.
