quick question about merged mining:

If i mine monero and merge mine with fcn or mcn, am i losing out on potential monero?

Thanks  Grin

As i understand for merged mining there are not so optimized miners as are for mining Monero. What you get beside Monero is worth so little, that cant cover that difference.

So i would be better off just mining monero?

I have 8 cores and 4 nvidea 750 ti's, would my best bet be to run 3 cores on monero and run the 4 cards on darkcoin? or can i get away with adding more cores without taking away from the gpu processing??
This whole conversation would be better off either on the Moderated Monero General Discussion Thread or better yet on the Monero Mining (unmoderated) thread.

882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Moderated Monero General Discussion Thread on: September 30, 2014, 03:26:24 PM
It would be nice if MEW or the core devs set up a Monero wiki, similar to the Bitcoin wiki (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Main_Page). It's a bit hard for newbies to navigate Bitcointalk to find accurate and up-to-date information, given the level of anti-Monero FUD and trolling.

There is one here http://monero.wikia.com/ but it is focused on development. Personally, I find it a shame to "burn" the monero name for development wiki - it should have a greater scheme than that. I don't remember who is the creator of the wiki, but I suggest anyway that we start writing some topics out of dev here. It is always possible to use a "development" category to isolate devving from the rest.

The emission curve on deletions in this thread needs to be examined, and perhaps adjusted.

From anon136:

Yes I will do this. From this point on if its not troll or containing of demonstrably false information it will not be deleted from this thread.

*edit* Also responses to troll or fud posts. If I see something that I just deleted quoted than I'm going to delete that also. The idea behind this policy is that i dont think it makes a terrible amount of sense to delete a fud or troll post and then still have it present in its entirety one post below the one i just deleted. The draw back is that certainly it will result in some entirely well meaning responses being deleted. Interested to know if you guys agree with this policy. These rules are not at all ridged and definitely subject to chance, interested in any constructive feedback. I'm quickly learning just how much harder this job is than one might anticipate.
I'd say: if the post with a deleted post only contains replies to the troll/FUD, it should be deleted too - after all, replying to trolls is almost trolling by itself. If the post contains both reply and unrelated content, PM the author to modify the text. Finally, the OP should be updated with this rule (e.g. the small letters at the end of the post).

BTW, 2629 votes on Cryptsy.

Update: interesting discussion on the MEW thread regarding which project to priorize.
883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 29, 2014, 12:28:56 AM
Thanks, I guess I missed it, but what is "MEW" btw?
Monero Economy Workgroup

There are two sides of the Monero coin: obverse is the core team, devoted to the technology i.e. coding. reverse is MEW, devoted to the economy i.e. encouraging adoption, business opportunities... Let's extend the metaphor: the edges of the coin are the gray area where coding and economy overlap. The emission curve is in this gray area.

The core team works internally under the collegiality (peer) governance system and externally under the benevolent dictatorship (for life) model. MEW works internally under the weighted voting governance system and has not (at least for now) any external governance system.

The Core team and MEW are independant of each other: none can force the other to change its mind. A vote from the MEW doesn't imply the core team has to abide; in reverse, if the core team asks the MEW to do something, MEW is not obliged to follow suit. Therefore, no one feels like being controlled by the other. If a post seemed to imply that one govering body rules above the other, it would be a misinterpretation.

I hope this will help you understanding it better. For future references, point people to the Community FAQ entry for MEW.

I have put him and this whole history on the ignore, there is no point in waste time on that anymore.

The same as here, but without the trolls.
This is a new thread, moderated with the monero-extended account so that there will always be one or more moderators here.

If you wish to apply for moderatorship, PM me. Round-the-clock moderation is always welcome.

We had some hiccups with moderation at the beginning but it should revert back to normal. Give it a try. I personally will privilege posting on the moderated thread instead of here.
885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Moderated Monero General Discussion Thread on: September 28, 2014, 10:34:40 PM
Thanks. We already have a need for mnemonic seed for the wallet. Any languages welcome, except English, German, Portuguese and French. Contact me if interested.
Other needs will arise later, so I should add you to the translator's list.
886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Moderated Monero General Discussion Thread on: September 27, 2014, 02:23:19 AM
For the immediate funding needs, can an early GUI be offered to donors for a test-run?

For long-term funding, can the mix-in include a percentage fee to the devs?

And thank you for creating a Troll free zone. If I ever see the name Surplus Bob on here, I'll, I'll...thank him for helping me get discounted Monero  Grin
Unfortunately, the early GUI is not possible. This is not a puzzle where you can appreciate half of the picture if you only have half of the pieces. When the GUI will be usable, it would be 90% complete.

Personally, I'd love to see more and more traffic moving there, but the market will decide.

OK, the thread is not only for registration but also for discussion. So, which topics should be considered here? Some ideas:
  • What is the exact perimeter of MEW (as opposed to "core team" and "neither core team nor MEW")
  • How to increase visibility of Monero outside of Cryptoland
  • How to better fund the core team
  • List of business opportunities, either started or proposed
  • What about the governance of MEW
  • Others

F___t (my turn Smiley)

Seriously, I just re-created the moderated general thread for scalability reasons. When I proposed that the ANN would have a dedicated account, I expected it would be useful and it actually proved to be beyond imagination. For obvious reasons, I created this thread with "monero-extended" and not "monero". Anon136 has the password so he will moderate if he agrees to do so.

blaaaaacksuit, xulescu, statdude, Anon136, pa, smooth, Mumbles, Nekomata, PestoQuinty, generalizethis, iourzzz, Bassica, ×, feel free to repost your old posts here.

I'll conclude with one of my favourite quote, from The Cathedral and the Bazaar:
Quote
When you lose interest in a program, your last duty to it is to hand it off to a competent successor.
So, Anon136, don't forget to find a successor when you'll be tired!

Done.
Anon, you can lock this topic and I will send you the PM for the Monero-extended account.
891  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Moderated Monero General Discussion Thread on: September 26, 2014, 11:08:15 PM
I could have given you access to the monero-extended account (created for this exact purpose, moderating threads and maintaining OP), so that someone else could take the lead later on (plus monero-extended as the creator would probably give more legitimacy, nothing personal anon). Here, we are stuck with only one person able to moderate.

If interested, contact me.
892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 26, 2014, 02:27:38 AM
I doubt any not technically expert from MEW will try to make changes in the technically expect of coin. Since if goes wrong price would fall and their reason why are here would go down.
It is my belief that if it is technical, this should not even be discussed in the MEW. MEW is about adoption, ecosystem, B2B. To each their own and overlap should be minimal (although probably not non-existant).

Let the DEV's work on the code and let MEW build a viable peripheral economy.
I agree and not only I hope but it all looks like this is the case here.
+1
893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 26, 2014, 02:23:58 AM
Wait, Risto says you are one of the 7 developers. But you pay someone else to develop? :Mind Blown:
We do. A lot. Even by allocating as much of our time to it, we do not have enough manpower by ourselves, even including the volunteer developers. So, yes, we outsource. And outsourcing is rarely free. Remember, we don't have 5 years of Bitcoin shoulders to stand on, especially considering we are addressing issues Bitcoin did not (and may never do).
Note: this is not as much a reply to a possible troll than something that new readers would be interested in reading.

That is smart and I did just that, thanks!

However I still don't understand where the difference between their 64 chars and my 64 chars is....oh well.

Hexadecimal. 0 to 9 plus A to F (case-insensitive). For instance, ShrikezShrikezShrikezShrikezShrikezShrikezShrikezShrikezShrikezS would not work, because apart from e, no letter is an hexadecimal number

Are you aware that there is a space between the d and the n (at the end) in the adress posted at 1.1? I don't know if that's meant to be, just notifying before someone sends to the wrong adress. Will soon send mine.
Thank you, this is a known SMF limitation and an oversight from us. This is corrected. No risk of error, though, the payment would not have been processed.

What about having a logo for MEW, both inspired by Monero and yet different? Much like the Monero Research Labs?

  • Advantage: consistency
  • Disadvantage: risk of confusion, people could believe that MEW is an official Monero project, which it is not.

Food for thoughts.
897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 25, 2014, 11:19:47 PM
Ideally, the development team is non-financially motivated, but since they are
We are not, but tell me how we'll pay the developers and the consulting and everything? Have you cake and eat it? How much did you donated? How much ALL  OF YOU holders donated?
Answer: not enough. Now if you have a solution, we are all ears. You are calling us greedy and I take it as a personal insult.

How can I join in?
Follow the instructions on the OP

I created a Dexpla support hall of fame to help Dexpla overrides his crush. And if this is not enough, consider it as a crowdfunding campaign for cryptoclubz.com.

[HYP] Dexpla support Hall of fame
900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [HYP] Dexpla support Hall of fame on: September 25, 2014, 02:31:33 AM
HyperStake holder Dexpla got his coins stolen (340k). It created a real life family drama on top of ruining his chances to bring http://www.cryptoclubz.com/, a social network for cryptocurrency enthusiasts (which would use HYP) into fruition.

I believe that, even if ultimately, it was his own fault (pretty basic social engineering), giving some support would be nice. Let us show that the HYP community cares. And if this is not enough, consider it as a crowdfunding campaign for cryptoclubz.com.

You can use Stake 4 Charity/HyperSend feature to make it very simple. For the moment, there is no trigger allowing to send "up to that much HYP by staking", but if you want to give just a certain amount, do a standard sending. If not, you can devote 1% or your staking.

Address is pC65u6zPz9SHkffKYa4Jn69dAD5zy8yyVY and I will add the name of people who announced giving.

If you want to know how much you gave, follow this one-picture tutorial
