I don't understand how it really works but should we be worried about the price or BTC dominance? see...

On 12th May BTC was $57k and BTC dominance was at 42%
Today 19th May BTC is $39k and BTC dominance is at 40%

That's 31.5% price drop... but market dominance is slightly changed.

Stand your grounds and trust bitcoin there is nothing happening to bitcoin... this is a regular ups and downs... see the old graphs. Bitcoin recovered every dip and came back even stronger every time.

I don't know, but I don't like it. I think the bull market is over for a little while now. While we have seen alright volumes at this level we're not seeing a strong bounce yet, so that's not promising. If it is over we should see BTC start to gain back dominance like before, but probably won't reach the 70% highs again due to the fact that there are now many more shitcoins than before. I'm thinking we'll hit 60% at most.

So I wouldn't worry yet. The concern right now should be are entering into a 2013 bear market or a 2018 one, I still think 2013 and if I had a pot of fiat I would be buying now.

Unconfirmed transactions have shot back up into the mid-high 30k area, my bet is that is all the coins getting sent to the exchanges to sell.

It will be interesting to see the coins on exchanges charts over the next month. I see that there has already been a speedy increase.
923  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 19, 2021, 05:31:29 AM
Mother fucker.

Looks shocking, head and shoulders played out and has pretty much hit its target. Would be fucking retard stupid to sell now. Any mindrusts yet?

I guess when they said bitcoin was dead all those years ok we should have listened to them and not invested.

Every major miner has now signalled for the taproot upgrade with at least 1 block. It's takes a little while for their entire operation to signal every block, so we will miss activating taproot this round, but next one it is definitely going to happen. Good news in an otherwise shitty past day.

futures premiums have collapsed. Down to high single digits, guess nobody expects the price to rise then, which probably means it will.

Maybe he is warming up to launch his own version of crypto LOL

He may not need that, the Dogecoiners already follow and worship him (I wonder for how long).
On the other hand an USD-Elon has the potential to bring him and Tesla way more wealth than car manufacturing and the green certificates deals. Just he has to hurry up and make that before the US Govt.

Facebook, tried that. Didn't really work out.

Pretty sure that is not true, I beleive silca gel is carcinogenic, at least I was told that once.

However, he said oxygen absorber, which is not silca gel. Silca gel is for absorbing moisture. So it may be nothing, or may be something, in such small doses I'd say nothing.

If it were really serious they would not be able to sell the stuff as is. I'm sure this happens all the time.

Just edited post, SDS says not a problem

So last night I'm at the home cinema room watching a movie and I open a bag of Jack Link's Beef Jerky to eat while watching. First time to try it, it's an American thing, not found where I live, had to specially order it. Room was dark, saw a little bag inside it, and thought it was some kind of seasoning (maybe salt of pepper). So I open the little bag and spread the contents over the pieces of meat. I ate everything, it was delicious. Guess what: this morning I realised that the little bag said DO NOT EAT outside it. Fcuk! It was something called "oxygen absorber", supposedly to keep the meat fresh. Lesson learned: always read the label before you eat (do) something. I'm still alive (for now)!

As for Elon, I think he has sold already. It doesn't make sense to HoDL and act the way he did (and still does). Maybe the earlier dip we had before the recent bigger one was him selling? Anyways, I'm not so good at this sort of thing, it makes Bitcoin seem like stocks and shares, which I absolutely hate. Of course, I haven't sold a sat, and even thinking of BTFD. In any case, Elon will soon be forgotten, and Bitcoin will resume its upward trend again, as it has done so many times before. Silk Road, MtGox, forkenings, China bans, ETF rejections, mempool spamming, CSW/Ayre/Wu/Ver attacks, you name it, Bitcoin has always chewed them up and spat them out, and so it will do to Elon.

Let's wait until this thing settles. Maybe there are things at play we don't yet know...

As someone who likes the stuff and the South African version Biltong I find this quite funny to read. You'll live.
From Google:

What is the do not eat packet in beef jerky?
According to Slate, silica gel is “an inert, nontoxic substance that’s essentially harmless. … So if you accidentally eat some of the silica gel in the beef jerky packet (or if your kid does), don’t worry. It’s completely harmless.

Maybe stick with popcorn or crisps next time.  Grin

My living room in essence is a cinema room btw. 5.1 setup with Epson projector and a 110 inch screen. It's not a very wide room so can't go bigger really.
Sometimes I do have my dinner in there but will usually leave a corner lamp on whilst doing that. Once finished eating it goes off.

Edit: just check the SDS for silca gel, NOT carcinogenic, so that's good. Still don't know what the hell oxygen absorber is though. Most likely no problem.

Damn! that's a scary story. Might be best to check the SDS for the chemical and see what it says for accidental ingestion.

Oh that sucks. Of course, the guy is a pathological liar so I don't beleive him.

Last thing that anyone should want is for Musk or Tesla to own any Bitcoin.

Back In HODLsleep for a few more ...

I hope things look better on your return.

Asks starting to fill up a bit Sad

I think some really interesting data could be gathered from analyzing the book like especially whether walls are being bought or moved. Probably some inferences could be made about the players too.

I think you're right.

Edit: we're getting some large differences between exchanges in price. $500 at one point between finex and stamp
933  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 17, 2021, 04:34:03 AM
Fair enough. I feel bitstamp is the only genuine orderbook anyway, as most of us feel here I'm sure.

I know coinbase isn't well liked around here but I'm more not including them mostly because you can choose to get enough data about the order book to fill up your HD quickly or hardly any at all. Finex seems to be less unpopular here than I feel about them but I think one is enough for now anyway.

Problem with coinbase here is not the exchange itself, but more the person running it, nobody here wants to support if for that reason. I also don't think anyone here views bitfinex with high regard honestly.

For me, I would trust coinbase's orderbook over bitfinex. I think many would. But, keeping it on bitstamp make sense for stated reasons.
934  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 17, 2021, 04:20:50 AM
Well, if that's the case maybe just bring it out for times like these.

Also, what exchanges have you included in that?

That's just Bitstamp. I'm still gathering data on finex and gdax but will probably just stick with bitstamp.

I'm thinking of putting chartbuddy on twitter (or similar service). People would then be able to post in here as needed. It was a plan for a while. He was on bitco.in for a while but people got fussy and now it's not for BTC anymore really. Twitter would just be more generally available. Unfortunately somebody already grabbed the chartbuddy handle.

Fair enough. I feel bitstamp is the only genuine orderbook anyway, same as most of us here feel, I'm sure.
935  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 17, 2021, 04:14:21 AM

Exactly what I was just looking at

see https://data.bitcoinity.org/markets/books/USD

good time for chart buddy's return I might add

Your post prompted me to do it.

Unfortunately, I don't know if ChartBuddy will be able to come back. When I was logging in for that, I was reminded that there is an anti-bot Captcha on login. I  can't see any easy way around that.

Well, if that's the case maybe just bring it out for times like these.

Also, what exchanges have you included in that?

Not looking great Sad
Was Musk the manipulator all along?
Seems like he is at this point.

I posted some scenarios about what I thought might happen the last time I was on the forums:
I am pretty certain this all was just an attempt to thwart the main goal of cryptocurrency so to gain more customers for his companies.
In several ways:
1. Appear on a national syndicate television show and say something to garner an audience world-wide and have a play on words so to leave speculation for what everybody was expecting to happen but it didn't.
2. Once he had everyone's focus say something else which will leave a bad taste in those investors mouth.
3. Tweet out that using a certain cryptocurrency is bad for the environment but I am here to fix that with said other crytpocurrency he garnered speculation on.
4. Present his solution that the company in which he owns will be providing clean energy to those who are using the cryptocurrency which is bad for the environment.
5. Gather more attention to said company and tells of the first cryptocurrency will be paying for his second company's journey into space.

Seems like he had it all thought out and is just setting his plan in motion.
One step at a time.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5336007.msg57014563#msg57014563

This was prior to the tweet heard around the crypto world roughly 7 hours ago in response to Mr.Whale causing this mass hysteria.

If this is the case he just shot his load, because the order book is not following it.

At least not yet.

At this point who knows, a lot of fear out there right now so probably just natural selling.

orderbook getting pretty compressed over on stamp now

Observing @ $43,620 🤣

Who is selling?

A bunch of cowards. Mempool is also starting to fill up again over the last few hours, I imagine that is all the sellers.
