a) who do you do that (I have a Bitstamp account but nothing on it neither XRP nor BTC nor fiat)
b) is that the only exchange? is there also a mt gox "issuer"
Thanks!
If you look on the ripple wiki there should be a list of gateways. I have used bitstamp and WeExchange (they are the ones which link to BitFunder). MtGox does not currently have any direct gateway within the ripple system. Do you mean "How do you do that"? OK, stop me if I am going into too much detail: (skip any steps you have already done) 1 - Go to BitFunder, register for an account. 2 - Go to ripple.com/client, open a ripple wallet 3 - Fund the ripple account with the minimum XRP reserve by doing one of the following: - 3a - buy some XRP from a forum member (either here or on the ripple forum) - 3b - ask for one of your friends who already uses Ripple to gift you some XRP - 3c - get a loan (and pay back after buying some XRP using the system later) (If you want to go this route PM me) - 3d - On the ripple forum there is a "pay it forward" thread for helping people get started using ripple 4 - Send BTC (or USD) to your BitStamp account. 5 - On the Bitstamp website you should find their Ripple account number (I think you can see it if you go to Deposit - Ripple), Copy that number and go to the Ripple client, click on "add contact", paste the account number and write BitStamp in the name field. 6 - Go to the "trust" page, add a trust for BitStamp greater than the amount of BTC you deposited. 7 - On the BitStamp website, go to "Withdraw", choose "Ripple" and fill out the form. Now you have BTC from BitStamp on Ripple. 8 - Now go on the Ripple website to the "Advanced" - "Trade" tab. Click on the "Change issuer" and select Bitstamp. You can now trade XRP/BTC or BTC/XRP.

What you want to do is change issuer to BitStamp. Then you can trade the BTC/Bitstamp for XRP.

And again I am thankful I pulled all my money out of MtGox weeks ago. Sucks to be MtGox users now.
Hmm, they are still accepting deposits, but are no longer processing withdrawals. Sounds fishy.

Bitcoin clears payments faster than any other financial system I'm aware of except cash by orders of magnitude, and I do not anticipate that changing any time soon.
Unless you are trying to do a cash transaction at a distance. It might take a couple days for the cash to go through the mail, clearly bitcoins clear much faster than that.

See, website around bitcoins can't even keep themselves running. Like when SatoshiDice had its domain registration expire. There are so many people who can't even keep their websites running that it is dragging down bitcoins and the price will continue to slide downward.
Bitcoin is bigger than any one website. As bitcoin expands it brings higher and higher quality people into the community. Even though some sites are failures, others will take their place. The survival of the fittest.

You can still see your post count on your profile page.
It doesn't matter. There should still be a total post count stat next to your avatar. I don't click every single persons profile when I read their name. So you ignore people it their post count is not high enough? Seems rather short sighted. Why are people so ignorant and make such bold assumptions? Have some decency before you say something so moronic and embarass yourself. I have never ignored anyone because of their post count, it is ridiculous to not have total posts part of your name. No clicking profile, no this no that, it should be displayed. Period. Every forum works like that. End of story. Why should it matter what their post count is? Your post count is not part of your name. Why is it so important to you to know what their post count is?

Presently, it's just that it seems like it's easier for frozen molasses to run uphill in winter than it is to sell a digital product with a bitcoin payment gateway.
Digital goods are a natural use of bitcoins, the digital cash. I have bought digital books using bitcoins, I have also used bitcoins to buy amazon credit to buy other digital books. One problem with selling for bitcoins is that transaction confirmation takes too long. I suppose users could be emailed the link to download after confirmation. But there are problems with that approach as well. For instance what do you do if the email ends up in the spam folder and the user doesn't see it? Email tends to be unreliable.
This goes into the issue of real-time payments. For small purchases it might even be acceptable to do 0 confirms, 1 is plenty.

Hello guys,
To me, it seems pretty strange that people actually continues buying btc now... I understood why they wanted to invest in btc before, after the Chyprus crisis, and all the articles in the media. But now?
I don't get it.
Here's why my brother is getting into it. He has a disability and collects disability, but they monitor his bank account and if he has too much they cut him off. So he can't save a small amount for future hardships. Bitcoin gives him that option. Related to the discussion in these two threads: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=205597.0https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=9879.0

I wonder why you thought this splash screen contest would get more entries, though, with much less payout and a much more difficult project?
You do not seem to understand what is at stake between the two "contests". The first one had a payout of 10 btc. The second one has a payout of 1.3 btc to the winner, and further amounts and work for anybody deemed to have talent.

This is bullsh*t. If your going to do a post/activity ratio crap, you need to have both available next to the avatar. No one is just going to click your profile?
It's discrediting longtime forum members. Please Fix this immediately!!
Everybody has been saying that measuring people based on post count is a bad way to grant trust, so this should not affect anybody detrimentally.

Interesting: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=27827Post count = Activity for him, but 2 of his posts are separated by 2 minutes so its not the number of days during which you posted I'm going to guess that it's a formula that theymos will tell us about later.
Edit: I'm winning so far with 532
Is there a way to see the ranking by activity? Looks like it's the same bounds than post count: 5, 100, 250, 500 No, I mean a list of all the forum members in the order of decreasing activity?

Slowly as in not comparable to say the transaction speeds you can accomplish with a credit card. I've been searching for answer to this. Is there a specific component like network propagation that severely effects processing time?
There are two things going on, the transaction must propagate through the network, and the transaction must be confirmed as valid. Both credit card and bitcoin transactions propagate almost instantly. For small purchases it could be acceptable to complete the transaction as soon as the bitcoins are seen with 0 confirmations. That is what credit card users do as well. Bitcoins are confirmed when you get to the number of blocks you deem necessary, most places use 6 confirms, but I have seen 3 or 9 as well. Credit Cards, on the other hand, take much longer to fully confirm; the transaction can be reversed weeks later by the credit card company.

giving an address over the phone is almost impossible.
If I knew I had to tell someone an address over the phone, I'd first hit up btc.to or pay.btc with some easy to remember (and vocalize) link. Firstbits would be great for this. This is what I see in this thread:
BULL: I think bitcoins are great and can't wait until the rest of the growing world accepts them. Yay!
BEAR: Not! See look at my FUD look F-U-D...see three letters that you need to know bitcoin is going to crash! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
LOLz so funny to watch sometimes.
I think you got the colors reversed. Red should be Bears and blue or green should be the Bulls. But aren't real life bulls associated more with the color red than blue? No, the bull-fighters wear red or something, so the people fighting the bulls should be writing in red to taunt them.

If you really want something to keep you busy and you like epic fantasy, you could start in on "The Eye of the World" by Robert Jordan. It is the first of the "Wheel of Time" series Jordan started, he got through about 11 books before he died and Brandon Sanderson finished of the series splendidly (I think there are 14 books), each book is 800-1100 solid pages of fantastic imagery, intricate magic, exciting action and relatable characters.

microwaves heat food with soundwaves. there is no radioactivity involved like so many people want to believe. however, boiling water releases many of the minerals and other microscopic nutrients that may be in the water to begin with. probably not lethal, but not the healthiest.
^^^inconclusive; that's why I didn't vote.
No, just no. Microwaves use microwaves, not sound waves (that is where the name microwave comes from). Microwaves are electromagnetic waves with wavelengths on the micrometer scale, so they have less energy than light (nanometer scale) and more energy than radio waves (meter scale). Microwaves happen to be the same energy as the rotations and vibrations of molecules (especially the O-H bond vibrations and the rotation of the water molecules), and so due to resonance when you blast a molecule with microwaves it absorbs the energy and vibrates and rotates faster increasing the energy and temperature. If you let the water sit, the energy will dissipate and it will go back to how it was energetically before you zapped it. Boiling water does expel any gases dissolved in the water, so it can change the pH (by releasing carbon dioxide). Also, some organic molecule can be destroyed or altered by the high heat. So the water can be changed chemically, depending on what traces were in it before you started.

Thanks guys, I will be checking out both, especially peter's recommendation, sounds like my type of book.
If you like "Black Hawk Down", you might also like "Thunder Run" by David Zucchino. Not quite as intense, but still pretty good.

I really liked "Black Hawk Down" by Mark Bowden. It is a true story but is written almost like a Tom Clancey novel, you really get to know the characters and what they were going through. The movie is pretty good too.
