81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is now a good time to buy BNB? on: June 29, 2023, 05:02:06 PM
Binance's native blockchain token (BNB) experienced a dip in price after the SEC fiasco. The exchange is facing heavy pressure by the US government regulatory agency. If Binance wins a lawsuit against the SEC, BNB's price could go all the way to the moon in an instant. But if it loses, BNB could experience new lows until it goes below the "triple digits".

I'm wondering if now is the good time to buy BNB or should I wait a little bit more? The crypto market is still bearish, so we should expect further pressure against an altcoin like BNB in the short term. Who knows if BNB will reach higher prices in the future? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
82  Economy / Exchanges / Kraken asking for full SSN on: June 29, 2023, 04:50:20 PM
I've used some exchanges in the past, but none of them asked me for my full SSN (Social Security Number). Coinbase only asked me for the last 4 digits of my SSN. But when I when to verify my ID with Kraken, I'm being asked to provide the full SSN.

With exchanges being a constant target of hackers, this would pose to be a huge sexurity risk. They could easily steal the identity of US-based customers. Has anyone gone through this experience before? Why is it that some exchanges ask for the last 4 digits of the SSN, while others don't? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. 83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Yield farming vs Staking on: June 29, 2023, 04:43:18 PM
I've came across "yield farming" which looks quite similar to staking. You basically go on a "hunt" for "De-Fi" platforms which offer the best rates for your stablecoin (or token) holdings. This is done in a non-custodial manner through the use of smart contracts. On staking, I can basically "delegate" my coins to a validator and earn daily income.

What I want to know is if "yield farming" is better than staking. An overview of the advantages/disadvantages between the two would be nice. Any clarifications would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley
84  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Are BRC-20 stablecoins the next big thing? on: May 31, 2023, 04:35:10 PM
There's a new stablecoin "in town" that goes by the name of Stably. It's a BRC-20 token issued on the main Bitcoin blockchain. I believe it's the first kind of stablecoin to be ever released on BTC. I'm not sure if it'll be backed by Bitcoin itself, but at least, Bitcoiners can now use stablecoins without having to move to another chain. The downside of this is that it will increase on-chain fees by a large margin. It's an Ordinals inscription after all. Would you imagine USDT, USDC, and other stablecoins launching their BRC-20 version on the BTC blockchain? It would be a complete disaster! The idea is cool, but it's best to move everything else to a separate chain or off-chain scaling solution to keep BTC fast and cheap for everyone to use.

What are your thoughts? Are BRC-20 stablecoins the next big thing? If not, why? Do you think BTC will be able to survive a flood of BRC-20 stablecoin transactions in the long run? What do you think about Stably? Will it have a future? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
85  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Best open source hardware wallets for BTC? on: May 31, 2023, 04:25:12 PM
Does anyone know of any good hardware wallets that are open source? I've been using a Ledger Nano for years but not being open source is a deal breaker for me. With the Ledger Recover feature meant to help restore people's private keys/seeds by complying with KYC, the hardware wallet could be compromised as we know it. If it's not open source, it cannot be trusted.

Any suggestions and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley
86  Economy / Collectibles / Which do you prefer? Physical or digital collectibles? on: May 31, 2023, 04:18:24 PM
The inception of NFTs brought a new era in the world of collectibles. Anything from art to rare items can now be collected in a digital manner. To some people, this is revolutionary because it eliminates the need to find space and protect your most valuable possesions. But to others, physical collectibles are better since they're something you can actually touch and carry with you wherever you go.

I'd prefer physical collectibles since they're something that could last forever. Not digital (intangible) items that are stored on a centralized server subject to fade in an instant.

Which do you prefer? Physical or digital collectibles? And why? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Smiley
87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Staking is not as trustless as it used to be on: May 23, 2023, 03:30:07 PM
I remember the good-old days where you could stake coins like Peercoin and Blackcoin on your own node in a decentralized (trustless) manner. After ETH announced its intentions to become a PoS coin, those days are over. Most PoS coins require you to "lend" your coins to a validator or third-party for you to start earning income right away. ETH, Polkadot, Polygon, and many others now work this way. Isn't crypto's intended purpose to eliminate the middleman? By requiring trust in a PoS system, you're bringing back centralized banking to crypto. Money talks, so don't expect this to change anytime soon.

Do you think there's hope for PoS to become decentralized again? If not, why? Can we blame governments and VCs for the path PoS has taken lately? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Smiley
88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Which are the best crypto mixers of 2023? on: May 23, 2023, 03:21:24 PM
ChipMixer was among the best (if not the best) crypto mixers in the world. It was shut down by the authorities easily because of its centralized design. I've stumbled across Tornado.Cash, but it got sanctioned by the US. I know there are "clones" of this mixer, but I'm not sure how trustworthy they are.

Things change quite fast in the crypto space, so I was wondering if there are any new mixers that are worth the shot (either centralized or decentralized). Any suggestions and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley
89  Economy / Economics / US Debt Default: Good or bad for crypto? on: May 23, 2023, 03:15:47 PM
There are talks among US politicians and economists about the country defaulting on its national debt. Congress usually approves raising the debt ceiling, so I don't see what's the issue here. But if somehow the US defaults, how would the crypto market react? Positively or negatively? The USD is the reserve currency of the world, so it's likely everything (stocks, crypto, etc) will crash alongside it.

What do you think? Is a US default good or bad for crypto in the short term? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
90  Economy / Collectibles / Looking for Very Much Wow (June 2014) in digital form on: May 09, 2023, 04:41:26 PM
I'm looking for the second issue of the Very Much Wow magazine (June 2014) to read electronically on my PC or phone.

Here's how it looks like:

I've been looking for it all over the web without any success. There was a link on Isssu sometime ago, but the publisher deleted it for some reason. The link was the following: http://issuu.com/verymuchwow/docs/vmw-issue2_jun

I already own a physical copy of the magazine, so there shouldn't be an issue reading or downloading it online if it's available.

Does anyone know where I can find this? Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley
91  Economy / Collectibles / How to remove scratches from acrylic coin slabs? on: May 09, 2023, 04:37:06 PM
I have a couple of graded crypto coins from ICG that have scratches on them. Slabs are made from acrylic, so I was hoping to find a solution that would help me remove scratches in the safest way possible.

Has anyone ever tried this? I'd like my graded coins to look just like new. Any suggestions and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley
92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Can NFTs last forever? on: May 09, 2023, 04:30:19 PM
All of the NFTs you know and love today, have their data stored their on centralized servers (images, video, etc). What is only stored on the Blockchain is just the properties of the NFT itself. While you're basically the "owner" of the NFT, you could lose technically lose it if the centralized server hosting the content of the NFT goes down.

So, what's the point of investing in NFTs if they can disappear in an instant? Unless all of the content is stored on the Blockchain itself, I don't see how NFTs will be able to last forever. Are there already solutions in the works that I'm not aware of? Please enlighten me on this. Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Will the Ordinals craze cause a UAHF soon? on: May 09, 2023, 04:23:28 PM
Fees on the Bitcoin blockchain have been on the rise ever since Ordinals became a big hit. There's a lot of NFT inscriptions that's making BTC slower and expensive to use. We've already seen some criticism by Bitcoin users all across social networks (Twitter). Last time I've checked, TX fees were as high as $30. It's insane!

I'm beginning to wonder if nodes will eventually reject Ordinals transactions, leading Bitcoin towards a hard fork (UAHF)? If that happens, we'll be heading back towards the era of the scaling debate which lead to the creation of Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Do you think the new hard fork will be a success? Will it destroy/ruin Bitcoin? If not, why? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Smiley
94  Economy / Exchanges / SEC wants to regulate DEXs on: April 19, 2023, 10:32:53 AM
I've read a news article from Reuters that the SEC (a US government agency) claims exisiting rules for exchanges also apply to decentralized exchanges (DEX). More details on that here: https://www.reuters.com/markets/us/us-sec-weigh-taking-more-feedback-plan-expand-exchange-definition-2023-04-14/

Does that mean the SEC will begin to enforce regulations on DEXs? Most of the so-called DEXs we know and love today are not as decentralized as they claim to be. Some have publicly-known developers, while others are hosted on centralized servers using centralized infrastructure. I fail to see how the SEC will succeed, especially when there's a small minority of DEXs that are truly-decentralized (it becomes difficult, if not impossible, to enforce regulations).

Do you think the SEC has gone too far on its crypto/Blockchain crackdown? If not, why? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
95  Economy / Exchanges / Best Exchanges without KYC? on: April 02, 2023, 07:58:50 PM
Which are the best crypto exchanges that doesn't require KYC? Aside from DEXs (decentralized exchanges), I'd want to know if there are any centralized exchanges that don't require you to verify your ID to trade crypto. Something like Shapeshift (instant exchange), but without the KYC part. I know this is like finding a "needle in a haystack", especially when governments have tightened regulations against crypto/Blockchain tech.

Any suggestions and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley
96  Economy / Exchanges / Coinbase vs SEC on: April 02, 2023, 07:52:50 PM
The SEC threatened Coinbase with a lawsuit if it doesn't comply with securities laws. According to the US agency, PoS coins are unregistered securities. Coinbase decided to ignore the SEC warning and continue offering staking services to US customers stating that "staking is handled by decentralized protocols". It's likely there will be a lawsuit between the SEC and Coinbase soon.

If the lawsuit becomes a reality, which do you think will win? The SEC or Coinbase? The US has been tightening its regulations towards the crypto industry, so a win by Coinbase could bring some "relief" to US-based crypto exchanges.

Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / A crypto world without CEXs...How would it be? on: April 02, 2023, 07:47:39 PM
If major countries around the world decide to reject crypto/Blockchain tech sometime in the future, there's a high probability CEXs (centralized exchanges) will cease to exist. They will shut down their operations as crypto is declared "illegal" for mainstream use. Without an on/off ramp to/from the Fiat and crypto worlds, I wonder how would the industry survive?

Will a world without CEXs mark the end of crypto? I know crypto is decentralized, but the truth is that CEXs provide most of the liquidity of the market. DEXs are "second-hand" options that have their own set of issues. Either mainstream adoption for crypto/Blockchain tech starts to decline, or all the other way around. We've seen how exchanges have been "closing up shop" in the US due to strict regulations. What makes you think other countries will tighten regulations especially when they claim crypto can be used to avoid sanctions?

Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Smiley
98  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is it worth staking stablecoins? on: February 13, 2023, 04:14:27 PM
I have some USDT and USDC in my portfolio that I'd want to stake in a "De-Fi" dApp without worrying about it in a long time. There are liquidity pools in Uniswap with attractive stake rates, but there's also Compound.Finance with its lending services. Both of these platforms are built on the ETH blockchain, so gas fees would be astronomically high. I've read about some platforms being compatible with Polygon (MATIC), but I'd have yet to see if it's worth the shot (especially in terms of security/reliability).

Do you know the safest way to stake stablecoins without breaking the bank? Also, do you think it's worth it? Or should I consider other options? Any suggestions and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley
99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Monero to PoS? on: February 13, 2023, 04:02:51 PM
Many of today's altcoins are switching to PoS just to increase on-chain performance and reduce energy consumption in the long run. I know PoS makes the Blockchain centralized, but it seems like the path crypto is heading to in the future (except Bitcoin). Would you imagine Monero becoming a PoS coin someday? Or at least a hybrid coin making use of both PoW and PoS consensus algorithms? Having a full-fledged privacy coin like Monero turning to PoS would be the first of its kind in the crypto/Blockchain space. I'd prefer XMR to stay PoW forever just like BTC, but you never know if developers change their mind sometime in the future. Even Zcash proposed the transition to PoS.

Do you think there's a possibility Monero will switch to PoS? If not, why? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
100  Economy / Speculation / What will happen to BTC price if the US defaults? on: February 13, 2023, 03:10:17 PM
There are rumors that the US will default on its national debt soon. If that happens, the global economy will plunge to new lows. After all, the US Dollar is the reserve currency of the world. While BTC and altcoins are a new kind of asset class, they rely on the mainstream economy to survive. People usually tie BTC's market price to existing Fiat currencies (mainly the USD).

The US Dollar will no longer be the world's reserve currency after the US defaults, so I wonder what will hapoen with BTC's market price after that? Will it rise like skyrocket? Or will it fall for good? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Smiley
