781  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum vs Lisk on: February 21, 2016, 08:18:43 PM
There is going to be an ICO for the release of a new coin, or should I say a decentralized platform for applications, similar to Ethereum called Lisk. Seeing it myself, it looks very promising and it will be a true competitor to ETH, but I would like to hear your opinion regarding this new kind of platform.

Whereas ETH uses solidity programming language, Lisk would use JavaScript which would be easier for developers to adapt to it since it is one of the most popular programming languages out there. What do you think?  Smiley
782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Making a BTC node hidden service? on: February 19, 2016, 10:24:33 PM
As far as I know, there isn't practically any BTC nodes running under the Tor network. (based on what I have seen on the web) I would like to know how do I setup a full BTC node that would run as a hidden service under the onion network. Is there any simple way to do this? A guide or tutorial would be really helpful. Please let me know since I want to support Bitcoin as much as I can.  Smiley
783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Where to learn Bitcoin Programming? on: February 19, 2016, 09:23:20 PM
I know like to know how to make apps that would work with the Bitcoin block chain. Is there a way to learn how to program with Bitcoin? I would like to know since I would starting testing my own apps from within the BTC network. Then, I would publish them so that others could use them too. Also, I was thinking of making a website that would run on top of the Bitcoin blockchain, similar to what Qora does. Is this possible?  Grin
784  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / What is your PoS strategy? on: February 19, 2016, 08:54:32 PM
Besides mining Proof of Work coins which take a lot of power and effort, I found out that mining PoS coins are better indeed. Since I started with this a few months ago, I would like to know what strategy (if any) do you use to effectively generate more stakes and profit from it. There are different types of PoS coins in the market, with different interest rates, but I have tried some and didn't benefit too much from it (perhaps my strategy is wrong) Any ideas?  Smiley
785  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is there an easier way of making an alt coin? on: February 19, 2016, 08:32:37 PM
I know that you could fork the BTC source code in order to make your own alt coin, that that is to much work and coding for me. Is there an easier way to make my own clone of Bitcoin (or an alt coin)? If there is, please let me know as I would use this to test out the creation of another coin for educational purposes.  Grin
786  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Cheapest BTC miner for learning? on: February 19, 2016, 07:32:03 PM
I am going need some recommendations regarding looking a cheap BTC miner with the purpose to teach others about the process of mining. I don't really need one to profit from it (no matter if it has a very low hashrate) just want one for educational purposes and use it as a medium to promote Bitcoins too. Any ideas on what type of miner would be the one suitable for this task? The cheaper it is the better.  Smiley
787  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / About NXT aliases on: February 19, 2016, 06:15:22 PM
I heard that you could make an alias from within the NXT platform, and the same could be used as a domain for your site. How is this possible? What do I need to do exactly to configure it from within my server? Sorry for asking. I am practically new to the NXT platform, and testing its features to see how this would really work. Is there a guide or tutorial you could share? I would appreciate your help.  Grin
788  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / RPi Zero BTC Node? on: February 19, 2016, 05:57:16 PM
I want to know if the Raspberry Pi Zero is really capable of becoming a full BTC Node before I start getting one for myself. Has anyone tried this? I would like to know your experiences about this. Considering it has lower specs than other RPis such as the RPi 2, it makes me wonder whenever the Zero one could have the requirements of running a full BTC node and remain powered on 24/7.  Smiley
789  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Do you think Emercoin's price is all about hype? on: January 14, 2016, 09:02:26 PM
Since Emercoin's partnership with Microsoft Azure's Blockchain as a Service (BaaS) there has been quite significant changes in the terms of price and marketcap of the same. In just a few days, the price went from $0.06 to $0.12 and now it is worth $0.30 per EMC

Do you think that the result of this price increase is just a matter of hype? Share your thoughts here.
790  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is Bitcoin Unlimited another Bitcoin XT? on: January 12, 2016, 10:23:03 PM
I am so confused. First came Bitcoin XT which tried to solve Bitcoin's block size cap (and apparently it failed) but now there is something new called Bitcoin Unlimited? I just read a few things about it and as far as I understood you can choose any block size right? What is this? Another alt coin or a fork?  Huh
791  Economy / Goods / [REQUEST] Coin Center Pocket Bitcoin White Paper on: December 31, 2015, 01:16:25 AM
Does anyone own a Coin Center Pocket Bitcoin White Paper? I tried looking on their site to get a FREE one but I guess that I'm too late now. If anyone has one, please let me know and we can make out a deal. I am willing to pay with Bitcoin (especially to trusted members) and would probably use escrow too.

Example of pocket whitepaper:

Thanks in advance  Smiley
792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Will Bitcoin get faster transactions like Litecoin? on: December 12, 2015, 12:57:39 AM
I know how disappointing it is for having to wait around 15 to 30 minutes for a Bitcoin transaction to get confirmed by the network. But I think faster transactions could be achieved if devs decide to improve the code. Just look at Litecoin, Dogecoin, and Ethereum. They have faster confirmation times and some good features. I have no doubt that Bitcoin will be improved in the near future and it will remain as the top crypto currency.
What do you think about it?  Smiley
793  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Affordable motherboard for GPU mining? on: December 11, 2015, 10:53:33 PM
I'm looking for an affordable motherboard for GPU mining that would have at least the requirements to be compatible with the latest GPUs. I think it is based on the PCI-E 2 or PCI-E  connections, am I right? Sorry, but not sure how to set up the GPUs on the motherboard.
I have been looking into ASRock motherboards (since they are cheaper) but I'm not sure if they are recommended for this tasks. I would like to know your thoughts about this matter. Thanks.  Smiley
794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin arcade machine? on: December 11, 2015, 10:48:43 PM
This might sound crazy but do you ever imagined yourself playing with an arcade cabinet, with the ability to pay with Bitcoins instead of a quarter? (0.25 usd)

I have been looking for such machine that would serve that purpose, but I can't seem to find it. It will be real fun to play some of the arcade classics with your BTC. Don't you think?  Cheesy
795  Other / MultiBit / How to get into Testnet? on: December 11, 2015, 09:33:52 PM
How do I manage to connect to the testnet, instead of the mainnet? I can see a small checkbox near the word that reads: "On Testnet", but it seems to be unchecked. I tried clicking it, but it doesn't activate? Is there a way to access it? Sorry for asking this, I have never tried it before.
I'm using multibit wallet, but I think the instructions are the same for other clients such as Bitcoin Core, right?  Huh
796  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Hedge Bitcoins against devaluation on: November 29, 2015, 11:09:33 PM
What would the best way to protect my Bitcoin investments against its devaluation or when its market price goes down? I thought about exchanging my BTC to Nubits, but they are not always pegged 100% to the value of fiat. Then there is BITUSD, and Tether but I'm not sure if it would be the safest way to do this. Even if Bitcoin's price goes to the moon, at least I would protect them in case their value goes down.  Grin

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Cheesy
797  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Are Smartchain based cryptos worthy of investment? on: November 29, 2015, 11:07:11 PM
Do you think Smartchain based crypto currencies such as Stellar, Ripple, Bitshares or Ethereum worth the investment? Each one of them have promising technologies and maybe get the opportunity of replacing Bitcoin.

Here is what I think of them:

Ripple - Is centralized, but it is currently # 2 in marketcap and due to its centralization it might bring the attention of banks and/or governments to adopt it as their currency.

Stellar - Looks much like Ripple, so I don't see any real difference other than they claim that they are decentralized and have a better upgraded network than that of Ripple. They changed their currency name from Stellar to Lumen.

Bitshares - Provides a decentralized payment system with Delegated Proof of Stake, the ability to invest in assets pegged to their fiat value, and better TPS (as they claim to be)

Ethereum - Similar to Bitshares with the ability to create Smartchain contracts and execute them with gas or Ether. It is basically a decentralized application platform.

Any thoughts or recommendations on which I should invest into? The way I see it, I think that Ethereum would survive, but I'm not pretty sure. What do you think?  Smiley
798  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Are HDD minable alt coins profitable at all? on: November 22, 2015, 12:58:24 AM
Had anyone tried mining HDD Proof of Capacity coins such as Burst, Sia, or StorjcoinX? Can anyone confirm if mining one of these is profitable at all? Because I have checked Burst's mining profitability with the provided mining calculator, but so far it isn't profitable to mine it at all. You will end up spending more on a hard drive than you would on getting a ROI. Any hints on this?  Huh
799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Virtacoin Core CPU Usage on: November 21, 2015, 10:48:28 PM
Have anyone experienced high CPU usage when leaving the Virtacoin Core wallet open for a little while? I've noticed that it takes up 99% of my CPU usage when I look at the Task Manager.  Huh

Here is the screenshot:

Any idea on what this might be or how it could be solved. I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.  Wink
800  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How to determine the most profitable coin to mine? on: November 07, 2015, 11:12:53 PM
How exactly is it that you can determine which crypto is most profitable to mine? Is it by its network difficulty, hashrate, or market cap? I just want to know, now that I want to return to mine with my Gridseeds GC3355. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Smiley
