61  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Learn from what is happening in the forum with address re-use on: August 23, 2024, 10:54:38 PM
Privacy is the goal of this evolving technology, and every form of privacy need to be implemented. Today I want to share the disadvantages of address re-use and remind everyone how crucial it is to generate fresh addresses for new transactions. A famous minor example happens in the forum every day, where accounts are linked to one another because of address re-use. While this won't affect our daily life, let's look into a real-life example.

Identity collapse is a process that links multiple Bitcoin addresses to one another through the Bitcoin transaction graph. The address makes the work easier for the operators. According to this wiki
Quote
There are publically-known databases that exist, right now, that have not only collapsed millions of Bitcoin addresses, but used publically-available information to link those collapsed identities to individuals, and these databases are being actively maintained.

Another disadvantage of address re-use has a lot to do with face-to-face transactions. When you re-use an address a merchant will be able to know all your transactions input and output and may involve the bad gangs to attack you and retrieve your bitcoin.

In a nutshell, address reuse helps your privacy and keeps everything clean. Stay private everyone. The wiki above contains more examples of disadvantages of address re-use.

Add your knowledge.

You are confusing privacy with anonymity. It is a common mistake to make

Bitcoin was never meant to be anonymous. Although it can easily be; for example by using a mixer or swapping Bitcoin->Monero->Different Monero Address->Bitcoin. Although I do not recommend it.

You can still be identified by other markers - like if you send 10.2312355 Bitcoin and swap it back to another address as the same amount (who else is sending that exact amount to a single address? Probably only you~). Or if you pay with that address for a purchase which is connected to your bank account, E-Mail or even IP.

What do you guys think?

I think I see an inverse H&S on the daily. Are we in for a pump? I think we might be. If the pattern checks out, we are probably looking at 80-85K
63  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it Ideal for parents to demand rent from their child who stays with them? on: August 22, 2024, 02:30:53 PM
If the child is making money then that child should want to help pay the bills, especially after experiencing what work is like. Otherwise that child is simply spoiled rotten. On the other hand, forcing a child that does not want to pay rent to hand over cash will not teach them the value of money, as many parents hope it will, and I think it is a misguided attempt at parenting.

64  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Luck or Experience on: August 22, 2024, 01:45:38 PM
The gambler may win some big money in the gambling after some game in the gambling site with some experience. Some claim the winning happened in the slot and blackjack games due to the luck.Day before yesterday,I met my gambling friend who was in gambling over 7 years of time,he said me the game after the experience was based on the tactics and strategy based on the experience.

But my question is many new gamblers also make the huge money after few games. So the new gamblers made the money by luck or experience. My view on the new people is purely based on the luck, because not have huge experience at the initial stage of game.In this we need to consider some experienced gamblers making huge loss again and again after the huge experience because of greedy.Greedy should be avoided to loss the entire capital loss.Share your opinion based on your experience in gambling games.

When it comes to gambling, it is always about luck. The only thing experience is good for in the world of gambling is to know how to play whichever game. If gambling was not based 100% on luck, then we would see casinos around the world going bankrupt. And that would not be a very good business model.

Summer ends next month means 4 weeks+ of depressing bear market.

October is almost always a mega green dildo.

Let's hope for it.

I turn my candles orange and purple. For that Spooktober feeling.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: He wants to Invest in Bitcoin for His Retirement. on: August 20, 2024, 12:42:39 PM
As much as I love Bitcoin for the amazing investment it is, I would still advise against putting all your eggs into one basket - In other words do not put all your wealth into one investment. Especially if you are trying to save up/grow your money for retirement.

68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fractal Bitcoin - Upcoming BTC L2 on: August 20, 2024, 01:39:41 AM
There is something about most L2 projects which makes them almost completely unpopular (low user bases). While I like the idea of building on top of Bitcoin in order to improve the Bitcoin ecosystem, many of these sidechains are trying to be their own thing, disconnected from Bitcoin, but still wanting to be a part of the Bitcoin in name only, for marketing purposes... Most of them are just altcoins in disguise and I do not really trust them.
69  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you think of the current bitcoin price recovery? on: August 19, 2024, 01:47:28 AM
Friday's dip remains unconvincing to me. Even considering the last few weeks of selling pressure. But we did bounce off a primary support @49K so even if we might see another continuation to this seemingly meager recovery.

Sunday night dump, everyone. Set your watches.

Set. Clocked in. And planning to sell the watch in order to buy more Bitcoin.
71  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My Electrum wallet says I have no Bitcoin on: August 19, 2024, 01:26:58 AM
I went to my wallet today for the first time in ages and it shows no coins.  I know I have money in there.  I updated to the latest version but that didn't fix the problem

Can someone advise how to to fix this?  Please talk to me like I'm in the 4th grade.  I know how to use things but have zero understanding of how it works.

Thanks.

Here is what you do:

1. go to https://blockchair.com and search your wallet address.

2. Look if there has been any transactions since the time you left your wallet alone. If there have been transactions, then somebody moved the coins. (maybe you or someone you know, hopefully)

If, however, you do see coins in the wallet then they have not been moved to another wallet address, then that means that probably something is wrong with your Electrum. In which case, your coins are safe but you might need to reinstall the newest wallet software. But make sure you have your seed phrase so that you can access your wallet in the future (from any wallet software).
72  Other / Off-topic / Re: Tell me, do you have a goal to be a professional gambler in the future? on: August 19, 2024, 01:21:07 AM
I believe there are many gamblers here in the forum who regularly share their wins and losses. But I'm curious—has it ever crossed your mind to consider becoming a professional gambler, someone who makes a living out of it and enjoys a life of financial freedom?

WTF is a professional gambler? It is not a skill that you can refine to become a professional. If anything, unless there is a steady source of a net positive (like an income or other gains) then you are merely an experienced gambler. Sure maybe even an expert gambler.

But a profession this is not.
73  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fulgurpay - Fulgurwallet Scammed me $725 on: August 16, 2024, 09:11:11 PM
Next time go to Coinmarketcap and check the token/coin and the exchanges it is being traded on. You really need to do your own research before playing around with dubious exchanges that nobody has ever heard of.

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/fasttoken/

It seems that Coinmarketcap does not even list the exchange you mentioned. And I bet for good reason.

75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Blockchain will BlackRock use for RWAs? on: August 16, 2024, 08:26:40 PM
Guess which Blockchain will BlackRock use for Real World Assets (RWAs)? Will it be Hedera's Hashgraph, Ethereum, Solana, BSC, or XRP? Whichever it is, it seems that we'll be living in a future where we won't own anything. Tokenization of physical assets will only give more power to corporations and governments. Long gone will be the days where you'll actually hold something in your hands and truly own it. We're already seeing this with music streaming services, cloud gaming, etc. There were rumors that Larry Fink (BlackRock's CEO) was going to launch RWAs on Hashgraph. However, they were dismissed thereafter. Still, it might be a good time to "hodl" any of the aforementioned coins.

Thoughts?  Huh

I think they will go with the least riskiest and most trusted option. In other words, Ethereum. It has been around for a long time and has proven itself without much issue. And it is far more trusted than any of the others.

But there is the issue with the transaction fees being higher than the other options. So that might be a point they consider unacceptable.
76  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mike Hearn Leaves Bitcoin on: August 15, 2024, 05:58:09 PM
seem some ill informed people are using this topic to promote a completely different network that is trying to steal users, fame and integrity of bitcoin, whilst not actually having any of the security elements of bitcoin

LN is a completely different network. if you analyse it you will notice:
its does not have a blockchain.
nor is it fixed to only support and work with bitcoin
its payments are not even measured in sats but produce onion packets(payments) measured in msats which is a currency unit bitcoin does NOT understand
to use LN you are abandoning using bitcoin.
your payments are not settled(confirmed)
mining pools do not collect fees when doing LN Msat payments
the flaws of LN are a known risk to users funds
the flaws do not guarantee users will get settled amounts they are shown to be owed whilst in LN
the flaws allow funds to be stolen

if bitcoin was a debit account of real value, LN is the credit card of iou funds which can leave people in debt(loss)

LN is not the solution to scaling bitcoin because its actually an attempt to steal people away from using bitcoin. to scale bitcoin is meant to scale bitcoin to allow more transactions on bitcoin and allow more ability for people to use bitcoin.

dont be fooled into thinking LN is the better version of bitcoin. everyone knows how the fiat system failed the public due to the debt system mainly caused by credit cards.. so LN is repeating this error. dont get stuck in LN. instead ask core (centralised group of bitcoin) to do better for bitcoin by scaling bitcoin, not their sponsored subnetwork they wish to push people over to

Of course you are right. LN and Bitcoin are two entirely different things and they should not be confused to be the same thing or "upgrades" of the same thing. But LN is built on top of Bitcoin and can therefore be considered part of the Bitcoin ecosystem- with a useful function (reduce fees and transaction times). And as it is part of the Bitcoin ecosystem, it should be considered and respected as such. Otherwise we risk souring the further development of the Bitcoin ecosystem.
77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FBI breaks silence about Satoshi Nakamoto on: August 15, 2024, 03:40:06 PM
I don't know why people are putting so much time and energy into unveiling the identity of Satoshi.
For fame maybe, they want to be the one who finally unravels Satoshi's identity, but we very well know how it will end, in nothingness.

I completely agree. This is all about self promotion, and in the case of a Journalist like Dave Troy, I would say he wants to promote his journalism by making it look like he has a big story on the hook.

79  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What if Gamblers had to go to Gambling school to learn? on: August 13, 2024, 03:23:19 PM
What if there was a legit gambling school that teach responsible gambling for maximum benefit in nearly every country that have gambling citizens, will it help to make gambling a profitable career or investment for potential new and old time gamblers?

Also, will the study or reading of books on gambling theories and strategies help to brush up one's understanding of how games are won, more than videos and podcasts would?

I think instead of a school, a better and more efficient education would take the form of a forced tutorial on the first-time play on whichever gambling game the users chooses to play- So the user is forced to learn about the betting mechanisms, gameplay, options and etc. And until you learn the game and everything about it, you are not allowed to gamble with real money.
80  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are you tempted to sell? on: August 12, 2024, 12:50:31 PM
No, but I am tempted to buy. Especially at such low prices. I am hoping on 55K but even now, I consider Bitcoin a good long term investment at any price.
