501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Arthur Hayes Believes ETFs Might Cause the Demise of Bitcoin on: December 27, 2023, 11:41:20 AM
Merry Xmas you all I came across a news today that pick my interest, it was about author Hayes view on Bitcoin ETFs approval which I found as a breath of fresh air of someone thinking about the negative impact ETF might have on Bitcoin. IMO I think that Can only happen in the worse case scenario.

Checkout the link: https://cointelegraph.com/news/spot-bitcoin-etf-could-completely-destroy-bitcoin-arthur-hayes

And let me hear your thoughts

Why on earth would anyone listen to someone like Arthur Hayes? He is not a voice for Bitcoin and never will be.

Arthur Hayes has been screwing investors over with his shady, Seychellen-based exchange and has even gotten in legal trouble over it. BitMEX was ordered in 2021 by federal court to pay $100 Million USD for illegally operating an exchange and for anti-money-laundering violations.

A Bitcoin ETF has the potential of ruining or improving the public image of Bitcoin, but for all intents and purposes, it is nothing but "Paper-Bitcoin" with no technical connection to the real Bitcoin other than an on-paper promise that it is backed by actual BTC. ETFs are basically NFTs.
502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No risk no reward on: December 26, 2023, 04:17:55 PM
Before making an investment always put it at the back of your mind that the higher you stake the more higher your income will be, In this case is like we do forget one thing that it's not about winning all time but actually loss also. When you admit it that you earn and at the same time you might loss. That means you are also capable of making a run into the crypto currency world.
That's why it always good to read and understand something before you engage yourself into it, or neither trying to introduce someone into it for example if your investment is on (BTC) make sure you have learn more about it.
But it always about risk and i do believe everyone knows whenever there's no risk no reward.

I do not really understand why people think that fiat, a stable job or anything else could possibly be risk-free. Life itself is not risk free. Everything has its own risks and rewards, Obviously... The only variable is the amount of risk. And we have seen time and time again that when it comes to finances, the risk of going from having a lot of money to having absolutely no money in the time span of a single day is very much possible. War, bad government, lawsuits... Anything can happen. Knowing that, does it not feel better to at least maneuver that risk and reap the rewards later?

503  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It is you who can't stop betting. on: December 26, 2023, 03:39:48 PM
When you are enjoying gambling, there's no reason to stop it as it's not something that will put your finances at risk.

That's why I can't stop it because I'm enjoying it much. I'm not really into big stake gambling, I just put a penny and enjoy. Although I envy those who are betting big but I  know myself that I'm not yet on their level, I'm just a small time earner, so I should also allign my expenses in gambling.

As long as we consider our gambling activity as expenses, that would give us an ease in gamblnig, we can easily accept losses because from the very start we are already ready to lose.

You do not have to give up something you enjoy, but you can minimize the damage and still have just as much fun. And you are doing it totally right! Betting with tiny amounts of money is just as good. I do exactly the same thing. I feel that there is absolutely no need for large bets if you can have the same result with small bets. And with small bets, even if you lose, you do not have to feel bad.

I combine small bets with a daily spending limit.

I still get the same adrenaline kick when losing or winning, so its a win win for me.
504  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Low cost but effective solutions to gambling addiction on: December 26, 2023, 11:07:27 AM
One of the solutions which is recommended by most gamblers on this forum for gambling addiction is "Therapy" . Professional help in the form of therapy. It is good and very effective but how many persons can actually afford it? There is a fee for each session that lasts for a duration of 60minutes. And there are more than one session. Therapy for gambling addiction is expensive. How can those who are unemployed afford it? How about the college student? Or the person receiving minimum wage. What are the other low cost but very effective solutions to gambling addiction. And typically how long will it take before the addict starts to feel more in control and less withdrawal symptoms?
Will totally appreciate your responses. Thanks.

The lowest cost is having family and friends who not only support you with words and gestures but also actively make sure to enforce a no-gambling environment in which you can relax and forget about gambling. A good distraction until your brain has recovered to normal levels is really all it takes for you to overcome any gambling addiction. The recovery time can be long, depending on the severity of the addiction. But going cold turkey is always the best thing to do.

But without friends and family, you might find yourself not being able to distract your brain from its addiction until it heals.
505  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Know when to ride and stop! on: December 25, 2023, 06:35:27 PM
You are absolutely right! We think that it's always important to know when you have to stop, because otherwise, you can get yourself in a trap of thinking that you can win every time.

Exactly. And for some reason, a lot of gamblers here seem to conflate being impervious to losing because they were having a winning streak.

Just because somebody wins a streak does not make them "luckier". It just means they were lucky not to lose, since the normal situation would be them losing. The part with the streak should rather be seen as an abnormal situation and further winning should not be expected.

The entire concept of luck is completely upside down, anyway. There is no such thing as luck. There is only probability. Roll Eyes
506  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: In The Span Of six months what will make you trust a new casino on: December 25, 2023, 06:24:54 PM
If a new casino launches an announcement here in Bitcointalk what are the requirements or criteria that will make you trust them?
Within six months after they launched their announcement here

Launching a review and signature campaign?

No complaints or scam accusations?

Very responsive representative here?

Good reviews from casino review sites?

Please vote and tell us why this is your choice all reasons are valid points but if you're going to pick one that will be the best answer what will it be?

I very much rely on the good reviews from trusted members in the Bitcointalk community. If a casino does not have a good reputation here, then I will not even look into it. It is just too risky. And casino review sites are absolutely not trustworthy in my personal opinion, since many of the reviews can be easily faked by some anonymous "reviewers". Also a good community management shows that the casino is trying to communicate with their members.

But if the casino has even one justified scam accusation, which is unresolved, then I will also avoid that casino.

508  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Guys, what's the best Bitcoin wallet for PC these days? on: December 24, 2023, 08:49:56 PM
Hands down Electrum is the absolute best wallet. It is open source and I can only recommend using open source wallets, otherwise you are gambling on the hope that your trust will not be betrayed- and it will be. Just look at how shady Ledger has become. If they won't trust you enough to show the code, then why should you trust their app enough to let it hold your money?

Furthermore, Electrum has been tested and tried since 2011. That alone should give you a sense of deep security.
509  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Features of the worldview of a gambler on: December 24, 2023, 07:05:59 PM
I watched videos about gambling addicts, in which the channel’s hosts interviewed them. I was amazed at how many of them were pathological optimists. More precisely, it’s hard for me to use the word optimism in conjunction with the word pathological, but still. Any loss for them is just a short-term nuisance. Optimism takes over and they play again and again, not paying attention to loans and debts.
At the same time, many openly admit that they are gambling addicts. But they talk about it as a minor detail of their lives. They admit that they are gambling addicts, but this does not make them stop. They, as usual, strive to continue the game.
I have repeatedly encountered the fact that the very concept of risk management is either unfamiliar to them or they do not attach enough serious importance to it.
I would highlight the following features:
1. Pathological optimism.
2. Lack of risk management.
3. The desire to understand some fundamental issues of the game (they talked about this themselves in interviews)
4. Love for the game process itself.
What do you think are the features of the worldview of a gambler?

Your topic is named " Features of the worldview of a gambler " and yet you talk about gambling addicts. I think that is not the same thing and the two should not be equated. I have never exhibited any of the four features you mentioned but I gamble. I know my limits and I know when to stop. I am not optimistic but rather pessimistic about gambling, which is why I never gamble large amounts of money. And risk management is everything to me. I make sure to always follow my own risk management plan and it has saved me from a lot of heartache.
510  Economy / Gambling / Re: Responsible gambling on: December 24, 2023, 06:38:47 PM
Here are two things to take note of before gambling
1.have a budget:it's very crucial to set a budget, decide how much money you are comfortable spending on gambling
Always stake what you can afford to lose. Have a limit and stick to it, doing it this way wouldn't put you under
Pressure and anxiety
2.Take breaks:This is a very important point..gambling can be very addicting especially when we start excepting a lot from it
From the first point I made I said you should always stake what you can afford to lose but it's important to
Take regular breaks especially when your losses are more than your wins.give yourself time to recover cause it's all about maintaining a healthy balance...I hope this helps someone out there

I completely agree. Going into gambling without a budget plan (as well as a max. limit for winning) and a break plan is a recipe for disaster. You need to have some form of control over the whole situation, because things could easily escalate quickly without you even noticing that there is anything wrong.

However for such a risk-limiting strategy to work, you need to have a modest amount of self-discipline. This is usually the main "deal-breaker" for people who do not wish having to resort to attempts in controlling themselves and their own emotions, whether out of laziness or out of pride.
511  Economy / Gambling / Re: What do you want to see in casino reviews? on: December 22, 2023, 07:35:47 PM
What we all want is honest casino reviews with somehow proof like deposit slips going to the casino that is being reviewed, at least we all have an assurance that the review is real.

^Exactly this.

I feel like most reviews are either fake or paid by the casinos themselves. The only reviews I can trust are the negative ones which even then, they are not always truthful because nobody knows who made them. Either the casino paid a person (or even the review site itself) a considerable sum of money to write good, fake reviews or a disgruntled gambler who lost money or felt he was treated unfairly and now wants to do revenge on the casino with a bad and fake review? How are you supposed to tell the difference?

Thats really the main problem why nobody trusts reviews or review sites.

I strongly suggest you find a solution to that problem, otherwise nobody will trust your reviews, no matter how honest you are.
512  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Everything has changed on: December 22, 2023, 06:23:27 PM
I don't know whether what I'm feeling other people are feeling it or am just having this feeling based on the country where I'm located, or am feeling this way because of age and responsibility. Before now everything was easy for the rich , poor, and middle class, you can even be happy without having any money with you. But this time it seems different,  you can still have money but still their is is no inner joy. Now even the people around are not real and genuine but fake, can even betray for free. Is it that as the world is evolving people are changing too.

I think that this is a very privileged viewpoint from a person who has probably never been living on the edge, in a poor country with a government that does not take care of its people. Money is extremely necessary for survival. Especially when it comes to things like health care. And if you live in such a place and have no money, you will notice how bad things can really become. And at that point, your happiness is going to go down, drastically.

But in European/western countries, I agree. But only because the government takes care of the poor. They get to have food, medicine and a roof over their head. And they do not have to fear for their lives and what tomorrow may bring.
513  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do casino owners benefit from creating multiple casinos? on: December 22, 2023, 05:50:42 PM
I have noticed that there are multiple casinos in the crypto space owned by the same person or company. I am curious about the reasons behind creating additional casinos when there is already a running and profitable one.

How does this practice contribute to their business? It seems illogical as it might increase operating expenses without an obvious benefit.

Gamblers, any thoughts on this?

Well, first of all if the owner of the website has one successful casino then it should suffice to say that he knows how to make his gambling platform business become profitable. Although I agree that it is better to concentrate on one thing instead of trying to "catch two rabbits at once", some people have the mindset of multiplying things that seem to work, instead. The owner of the casinos must think if one site is good then more sites are better. And in terms of dividing up risk, that may be true. But neglecting the one successful casino in hopes of making his other gambling websites just as successful is a fools bet.
514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Argentina has officially approved the agreement to legalize the use of Bitcoin on: December 22, 2023, 05:36:46 PM
It needs to be understood that there is a huge difference between the legalization of using Bitcoin and the status of Bitcoin as legal tender. They are vastly different and do not have the same implications. In the case of Argentina, Bitcoin is NOT being made legal tender. Merely the use of Bitcoin is being more accepted. And not even for everyone and everything. The acceptance is very limiting and the use of certain currencies in contracts and for payments is the main point of legalization here.

So its not really an "entire" legalization, it is only a partial one.

Although any good news, no matter how small is good for Bitcoin adoption.
515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solana just reached $80!!! on: December 22, 2023, 09:54:17 AM
I noticed that Solana has been pumping heavily the last few months, I assume this is all due to the new projects joining the Solana ecosystem? Although that being said, is a significant portion of Solana not still held by whichever entity is now responsible for the SBF wallets? I have not heard of any selling going on yet but I do not think it will stay that way for very long...

Furthermore, how is the news on Solanas constant Blockchain standstills? Are there still problems in that regard?

Sure, Solana may have reached a nice number but I am still not convinced that it has solved any of its old issues. The pump is almost purely speculative.

I'll be putting on the Santa suit on Saturday and playing Xmas songs on the Hammond organ at the local pub, doing a mix of traditional Christmas carols and the popular Xmas songs of the baby boomers' childhood (which are now standards and thrust upon every generation since!).

Man I would love to hear that.

Have a great Christmas!
517  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you Spending more or less money on Casino this Holiday season on: December 21, 2023, 09:41:25 PM
I am really glad to see by the results of the poll that people are spending less money on gambling in casinos and instead hopefully using that money to bring their friends and families joy this holiday! Or even using the money to improve themselves! Both are good.

I always try to spend as little money as I can on gambling, because I only gamble for fun. Sure, I might win or lose big sometimes, but I try to not let it get to my head. I would rather save the money on Bitcoin and give the BTC to a nocoiner as a Christmas gift. that ensures a better world, in my personal view

518  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is Michael Jordan a gambling addict ? on: December 21, 2023, 01:22:00 PM
I was recently arguing with someone whom stated that MJ is a gambling addict, and I pushed back.  I think we could probably all agree that being addicted to anything is never good, no matter what it is.  Michael is famous for being a big gambler.  However, it's not like that's the only thing he does in life.  He's a billionaire with many companies and countless things to do each day. Gambling doesn't effect those important things in life.

He takes care of his family, far from broke and gambling brings him entertainment.. so my question, would MJ be considered an addict?  I argue he's not.  He just loves to do it, but any negative effects may be literally zero ..

Wiki Definition "Addiction is a neuropsychological disorder characterized by a persistent and intense urge to use a drug or engage in a behaviour that produces natural reward, despite substantial harm and other negative consequences. Repetitive drug use often alters brain function in ways that perpetuate craving, and weakens (but does not completely negate) self-control.[1] This phenomenon – drugs reshaping brain function – has led to an understanding of addiction as a brain disorder with a complex variety of psychosocial as well as neurobiological (and thus involuntary)[a] factors that are implicated in addiction's development.[2][3][4] Classic signs of addiction include compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, preoccupation with substances or behavior, and continued use despite negative consequences. Habits and patterns associated with addiction are typically characterized by immediate gratification (short-term reward),[5][6] coupled with delayed deleterious effects (long-term costs).[3][7]"

(sorry hilarious and cyrus, I know you see this same type of topic a trillion times a day but this is bit different and something I'm truly interested in discussing, being his situation is unique).

Well I doubt he is a gambling addict, otherwise he would not be living such a luxurious life (anymore). Gambling addicts tend to break themselves financially, even if they were rich before. Furthermore, there is only 1 true MJ and it is not Michael Jordan. Roll Eyes

He seems to have things under control, if you ask me.

Gambling is a disbalance of neurochemicals. In other words its a imbalance in the chemicals in your brain. And unless you started early, when you were a kid and your brain was still in the development phase, it will not "alter" your brain functions permanently. So the best cure for gambling addicts is to go cold turkey for a long time.
519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When do you think Bitcoin ETF will be approved? on: December 21, 2023, 12:56:10 PM
I think it will be approved within Dec last.
What you guys think?

I keep hearing about 10th of January or before. Personally, I think we will see something in the next 2-3 weeks. Although knowing the efficiency of bureaucracy and how such things are handled, it might take months.

Either way, it does not matter to me since I hodl my Bitcoin. The people who trade back and forth between Bitcoin and Fiat or Bitcoin and altcoins are going to be the ones who lose out most, next to the guys waiting to buy Bitcoin at 30k or those waiting on god to give them a sign to buy Bitcoin at all.

Too many flip-floppers, not enough risk-takers.

Day 5,825: The government still doesn't understand wallets.

Are you guys afraid of the upcoming "unhosted wallet" ban? I am shaking right now. Sobbing and screaming. That madwoman Elizabeth Warren is going to do it, she is going to take away our memories, notepads and pens. We are no longer allowed to remember how to access our decentralized Bitcoin wallets.

The moment the government finds out that my brain produces DMT, I am afraid I will be considered a drug mule and put in prison. I am so scared. Tongue
