661  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Researcher Claims to Crack RSA-2048 With Quantum Computer on: November 09, 2023, 07:04:24 PM
He's really bought his own press, this guy. Roll Eyes

I claim total bullshit. All we are seeing is another "ground breaking discovery" with no proof and the guy behind it is pushing this as hard as he can. It's only a matter of time until he tries to sell something.

I consider my own opinion close to Alan Woodwards.
Quote
Alan Woodward, a professor of computer science at England's University of Surrey: "I'll believe they have done this when people can send them RSA modulus to factor and they send back two primes. Until I see that, I'm just confused and not convinced they've done what they claim in the headlines."

Edit: People on the Linkedin post claim he sends malware when asked for the full paper.
662  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hot take: Your crypto portfolio should have more than just Bitcoin. on: November 09, 2023, 06:30:57 PM

If you're a Bitcoin enthusiast who wants to make short-term gains, I recommend that you consider diversifying your portfolio with a few other altcoins. This will help you to reduce your risk and increase your chances of generating profits.

What do you think?

I think that diversifying your investments is a smart thing to do, however that does not automatically mean that you should invest in altcoins. At most you can claim to say that it is a smart decision to consider altcoins as further blockchain investments.

I however think that your blockchain investment portfolio only really needs Bitcoin and maybe, just maybe Ethereum or one/two of the other top 3 defi coins at the moment. But that is as far as my portfolio goes.

Not everything needs to be about cryptocurrency.
663  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What impact does the BTC price have on your gambling habits? on: November 09, 2023, 05:42:18 PM
Dear fellow gamblers, as title topic said, I have a question/survey for you!

What impact does the BTC price have on your play (gambling both in casino/sports betting/binary options etc)?

Did you play more? Did you play less? Any thought or opinion on that?
Feel free to add your answer on my survey

( I will add my answer on a second time .... Roll Eyes )

I do not think that anyone should gamble their Bitcoin away when going up or down. But we are only human and I cannot say that I have not ever gambled in my life as well...

Personally, I play more when Bitcoin is going sideways, just out of boredom. But when Bitcoin goes up, I also feel like splurging a bit, so I might gamble during ups as well. During down price movements, I feel it is better to not do anything with my Bitcoin, just because it seems like a huge waste for when it goes up again.

Although there is a psychological point which makes Bitcoin more disadvantageous to gambling, than with say, paper money. Its because all we see is a number going down or up. We do not see the physical representation of that value. Which in turn makes us more willing to spend or waste more money.

665  Economy / Gambling / Re: QuitGamble.com - Free Help for Problem Gamblers on: November 09, 2023, 12:52:01 PM
Hi Everyone!
I wanted to share a project that I've been part of. 5 years ago, I changed course from being a casino affiliate to working with problem gambling. It's been a project full of challenges, happiness, tears, and fighting. I wanted to do something different, and I saw how many people struggle.

QuitGamble.com is an online platform and mobile app to help people with gambling problems. The platform is free to use, and members get access to:
  • Video Courses
  • Extensive Guides
  • A community with +4400 members
  • Chat, Forum and Support Groups
  • Mobile App

Everything on QuitGamble.com is built from a problem gambler's perspective. We don't talk about responsible gambling, which many other organizations who claim to work with problem gambling do. For us, there is no such thing as RG for someone with gambling problems. (Who would write about responsible drinking on a page for alcoholics?)

The website is available in English, Spanish, Swedish, and soon French and Portuguese.

If you're curious about our project, please feel free to reach out. I would be happy to receive any feedback, both positive and negative. If you have a gambling problem, I would recommend you take a look at our how to stop gambling addiction guide. It's a step-by-step process that will put you on a new track.

Have a super day, everyone!

/Anders

I just took a look at the website and I was very impressed! I hope this will help a lot of gambling addicts get over their addiction, forever. I think the main thing they need is someone who helps them and supports them. If you were to integrate a support-community into your entire QuitGamble concept, then you would definitely improve the website and your chances of helping addicted people.

The reason I say this is because in my experience, addicts need a support community to distract themselves and to help others by distracting them and pulling them away from the world of gambling.
666  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a “safe haven asset” on: November 08, 2023, 02:56:44 PM
Previously, not only did the world consider bitcoin a highly volatile and high-risk asset, but even those of us who invested in bitcoin considered it a high-risk asset. But I think we should gradually change that concept as well as change the way we call it, bitcoin is no longer a risky asset. Recently AllianceBernstein, an asset manager with $699 billion, called bitcoin a safe haven and even more attractive than gold.

For me, this is the first time I've seen a traditional company admit and call bitcoin a safe haven and consider it superior to gold. What do you think about this and should we stop calling bitcoin a risky investment?
https://blockworks.co/news/alliancebernstein-gold-bitcoin-returns

A traditional asset investor is really a good person to have on our side. They tend to serve as a connection between the traditional investing and the modern, crypto investing. They can leverage this with others who are still skeptical of Bitcoin. A coiner could not possibly convince the stubborn, but their friends might. Especially if its a known and trusted face.

Bitcoin in indeed a safe haven. Safe from everyone, including the government. Thats the part that the government really dislikes, but what can they possibly do? I think nothing is what they can do.
667  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do You Believe That Reading People's Bad Experience Will Help You on: November 08, 2023, 01:06:53 PM
If you're starting your journey on gambling do you think reading about people's bad experiences like losing their savings and getting depressed which leads to loss of jobs and livelihood will help new gamblers to become responsible gamblers for fear that what they read will happen to them?

I ask this because, in our country, our government has mandated cigarette manufacturers to post graphic images of those who suffer from the bad effects of cigarettes on every pack of cigarettes like lung cancer pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis

So do you think it will be the same with gambling?

We have to be confronted directly by the negative consequences of bad habits, otherwise we will only continue lying to ourselves in order to get what we want. This is why there are those disgusting and horrifying pictures on cigarette boxes. And the same would be good for all bad habits, including alcohol and gambling. But a lot of people would rather continue lying to themselves as long as they can get another hit of fake happiness.

Or perhaps I am just viewing the world in darker shades of gray today...  Roll Eyes
668  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you leave gambling if your future wife/husband tells you to do this ? on: November 08, 2023, 12:01:44 PM
Will you leave gambling if your future wife/husband tells you to do this ?

Your phrasing is very difficult to understand. It took me a while to understand what you mean, because I was expecting at least an additional verb or something in your post. What you mean is: Would you leave gambling if your future wife/husband asked it of you? And honestly? Yeah I would. A wife/husband is something completely different than simply a boyfriend and a girlfriend. You can find a million girlfriends but you can only ever find one wife. So yeah, I would leave gambling if she asked me to do that.

670  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: For Newbies Interested in Gambling on: November 07, 2023, 06:21:01 PM
Being patient and consistently involved in healthy gambling habits will surely make you a successful gambler. If you are newbie who is interested in gambling and has been following the gambling community here or any where online or offline, your purpose should be to learn as much as possible from the shared experiences of others such that you can eventually branch out independently, allowing you to operate without dependence on others.

Note that the most important thing in gambling is bankroll management and finding value. What messes people up is poor bankroll management.  Personally, I limit my bets to no more than 10 percent of my bankroll per day, I stop once that limit is reached.  Also don't get discouraged if variance comes in and you have a losing day, week, month, etc. Value is value and it will catch up.  Goodluck on your gambling journey.

Gambling oldies can throw in their 2 sats on this.

Everyone has an unlucky streak, but the secret is not to let yourself get manipulated emotionally be it. To do that you need to have a set of rules and an entire buttload of discipline. Newbies can start by setting a daily gambling limit (which goes both ways for the wins as well as the losses). So if you exceed a certain number that you agreed with yourself in advance then it does not matter how your emotional state is or how lucky you feel, it will insure that you slow down or stop after a while. Just to keep yourself in control.

672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to invest 8k for passive income. on: November 06, 2023, 08:05:28 PM
I have 8k worth of crypto how to invest

This amount to get 10 or 20$ per day safe methods

I tried future trading and lost

Is there any methods related to crypto or something else
And i dont want to invest in altcoins or buying

Some crypto you can stake. But you would have to force yourself to hodl. And your altcoin might become worthless by the time you get your stake rewards and your crypto back. I have found future trading to be a fools game. But spot trading is quite nice, if you have the patience and discipline for it. But again, you must be prepared to lose money should things go bad. I think thats everything in life. What kind of financial activity comes without risk? Huh
673  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fund for Bitcoin promotion on: November 06, 2023, 07:47:19 PM
Is there some group which collects funds for Bitcoin promotion? If some group like this can create advertisements for Bitcoin, more people can become aware. Such mediums should be targeted which have reach on audience that is still not familiar with crypto.

Best way to promote Bitcoin is to talk about it. You do not need money to do that. Just do your part and make sure that, thanks to you, someone new joins the coiner community.

But either way it will happen, I think. Bitcoin is just too good to pass up, especially if you understand why. Unfortunately, the understanding of the "why" part is really hard for some people because it is technical.

Lucky for them, experts can explain it in terms they can understand.
674  Economy / Gambling / Re: Evolution — report for Q3 (HOW THEY EARN THAT MUCH?) on: November 06, 2023, 04:00:50 PM

I have question - how do they make that much money if their games are fair?

I mean, all of this videos of their rigged game shows, blackjacks...I'm about to think that all of them are true

Depends on what understand the termed of "rigged" as. Is something considered rigged if everyone knows its rigged and the casino even tells you its rigged?
The reason I say this is because all gambling games have something called a house edge. The probability of the casino winning your money is higher than the probability of you winning the casino's money. It has to be this way, otherwise casinos would not work in the first place. They would not even be casinos but rather give-away platforms.

But some casinos do sometimes take it too far and lower your odds of winning even more without giving you notice, but this will usually only happen to unregulated casinos which have their headquarters in some corrupt third world country. Luckily, with some DYOR, that can be easily avoided.
675  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have your own casino. on: November 06, 2023, 02:24:47 PM
How many of you have dreamed about having your casino? Be the house and play the always-win game.

In the past years it was different, people who could build a provably fair engine were able to have their own casino, but now we are playing with new rules, the casinos must have a license and games providers, and that's what people are looking for, and i don't say is something bad, the gambling experience on stake compared with the gambling experience on satoshi bones is enormous.

But getting back into the topic, i would like to read some nice histories from the community, those who only dream about their own casino, and those who make their dreams come true.

I think I would rather not have my own casino. There is so much regulation and red tape that you have to get over before you can even consider starting a casino. And furthermore you need to have rich friends who will invest millions in order for you to have something to start with. Otherwise how do you expect to pay out when a billionaire decides to gamble a few million USD for fun?

There are just too many things to trip over. And it is way too easy to get into legal trouble, should you accidentally trip up.

So not a good idea, at least from my perspective.

676  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Nigerians spend $975m daily on online betting on: November 05, 2023, 07:27:53 PM
Data from the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) has revealed that over 65 million Nigerians actively engage in betting, spending an average of $15 daily. This is just as it disclosed that everyday, 14 million bet takes and payments are made online in the country. continue reading here....

Recalled that Nigeria population is estimated to be around 200+million and from the information above, over 65 million people are engaged in gambling on a daily basis amounting to over 32% of the country population. With the recent economic crisis and hardship affecting almost all the nations, if large number of people are spending this much on betting, can we say that they relied on gambling to survive?

But, I think we need to know how much betting sites are paying out daily too, so we can make comparison.  Grin

I keep hearing a lot about Nigerian betting in this board for a while now. It makes sense since Nigeria has such a large population of gamblers. Or at least larger than many other countries.

There are other cultures and countries with huge betting cultures. Take Hong Kong for example, they have such an active gambling community that they even developed strict superstitious guidelines for gambling. Even the casinos try their best to make themselves seem lucky (grow certain kinds of plants outside the casino, have a certain number of pillars and so on).

But almost $1 Billion USD daily just for gambling? Damn. Thats $365 billion USD Nigerians could have used to develop higher living standards instead....

The dude is on a trip

But where

Curious who gets it first

Cipriani Marbella
Av. Bulevar Príncipe Alfonso de Hohenlohe
Marbella, Málaga, Spain

Google Maps - Puente Romano Beach Resort

Nice! I think you nailed it.

I have no clue how you guys do it.

It fairly easy when you know what to do…

1. Time of posting and work out if it is day or night. This will work out if The Dude is in the northern or southern hemisphere. - Here we can see he is in the northern

2. Reference the Timezone and Photo and work out which time part of the northern hemisphere - We can assume he is in Spain

3. Confirm he is in Spain using seasons and what people would be wearing… I can see over head heaters and gas heaters. - People wearing longs pants and jackets. Confirmed it is autumn attire.

4. Look at foliage and confirm best growing conditions. - Lady finger bananas, latitudes 27° and 44° N

5. Pin point the location by finding identity logos and other unique marks - Logo on the wine glass points to Cipriani. Elegant blue and white nautical aesthetic, high gloss wood interior points to their Marbella location.

Easy 5 step process!!!

Impressive. How did you search for the logo?
679  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No advertisement for btc on: November 04, 2023, 02:29:56 PM
It's all growth has been natural, it's quite surprising if you think about it.

Is it? Or perhaps you did not fully understand the potential of Bitcoin?

To me it comes to no surprise. The advertisement is the product itself. That's how amazing Bitcoin is. And to those who do not understand how it works or why its so astoundingly important, it might seem like a surprise. Furthermore, Bitcoin had absolutely no competitors because it was the first in its field. Now there are alternative cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Cardano but if we are being really honest to ourselves, Bitcoin still is the number one. No question. Sure it has its problems, but the solutions exist. And as long as that is true, Bitcoin will remain #1.

bitcoin will never work for coffee

What is this coffee hypothesis of yours? Show me your research. Tongue

we should implement a better lighting network

Agreed. But that also seems to be the projected progression, does it not? We seem to be headed towards that path anyway.
