681  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: alot of people are mining MTC were we missing something on: January 21, 2014, 07:52:41 AM
interesting idea... it's what crypto currencies should be... gradual release of coins over time which helps with price stability and keeps large amounts of coins out of the hands of the very few.  However with all the 'pump and dump' currencies available I don't see this one taking off in the short term. People will go where the money is, and where the attention and popularity are.

I agree with changing the name to 'qbit'
683  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT mythbusters on: January 18, 2014, 10:27:46 PM
so 70% of bitcoins are held by 2-3% of the userbase?  It's no surprise a vocal group of people are pumping it then... if I had 1000 bitcoins I'd be selling 900 of them and converting them to physical bullion personally. Pigs get slaughtered, as they say... no way so many coins in so few hands is a healthy market.  It's no different than our fractional reserve systems of today where the top 1% control a huge percentage of the wealth.

I think I've made a decision here... I'm not going to help the 2% get even richer by promoting a system so top heavy at this point... once a coin is out that isn't a 'for profit' coin and is more evenly distributed I'll start mentioning crypto currencies more.

you mean the biggest pumpers?
685  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Beginning of the End ! on: January 17, 2014, 07:20:25 PM
Litecoin has no new technology to make it superior to other, upcoming coins.... so basically you think bitcoin will crash but have invested in litecoin and are pumping it. Educated guess based on available information. I'd say it's more likely that if bitcoin crashes, the other coins will crash as hard, and the market cap of the whole crypto currency space will decline, a good thing that will allow new fresh investors into the scene and wipe out the net worth of all the early adopters who hopefully sell and give some of their coin to the fresh investor base.   Right now for claiming to be 'decentralized' crypto currencies are really no different than fiat currencies, profit driven with a large portion of the currency being held in very few hand.. the top 1% determined to keep their riches.
686  Economy / Speculation / Re: Confirmed Bad News Sources Thread - No FUD, Just Facts!!!1 on: January 17, 2014, 07:06:06 PM
people assume miners will sit in coins because they don't want to lose money, but there's no law that says a person MUST make a profit.  Having a lower price is good for everyone... it shakes out the loose hands and helps get the coins out of the hands of the rich (early adopters) ... what we really need is a severe bear market where people's psychological sentiment is also destroyed.. meaning they think the coin is going to fail, so they sell and cash out for fiat... this will allow a more broad investor base to enter at reasonable prices and set up for the next healthy bull, so you don't have 250 users controlling 25% of the coins.

The coin that can diversify it's user base the most will have the most success. So far all coins seem created so that their creators can basically retire off them... also transaction fees go against the very nature of a crypto currency.. if I can use a credit card for the same fee as a crypto currency, why bother with the hassle of the crypto currency?

gastroparesis blows. Always having GERD if you don't take your PPIs, never having an appetite and being nauseated because your vagus nerve is not telling the stomach to contract after eating a meal so food sits there in the stomach and rots...

it doesn't seem to want to cure itself and just lasts and lasts, for years and years.

anybody can enter the wrong decimal place when placing an order... nothing to see here except a hopeful pumper.

692  Economy / Economics / Re: How and why to hold bitcoins in your Roth IRA (yes, you can do it today!) on: January 17, 2014, 08:52:54 AM
Why would I want bitcoins in my IRA? Assuming I ever make a huge "profit" from them I have no intention of paying any capital gains tax on any perceived 'gain' .. I will merely spend them into goods purchased such as bullion... the base purchase price for the bullion then becomes my new "cost basis" if you will. How will they ever know? I wish I had that problem... alas I don't.
693  Economy / Economics / Re: Buy or Wait? on: January 17, 2014, 05:25:09 AM
there's a lot of buying support in the 800 dollar level.. not saying these same buyers wouldn't bail if there was a technical breakdown and a rush for the exits, but at the moment they seem hell bent on keeping there from being a technical breakdown. It's anyone's guess and it could go to 500 or up to 1200. Flip a coin.   Right now longer term support is in the range of 720 bucks so we could go about to that point and still not be in a 'technical breakdown' ... any lower and we likely go down to test the lows in December.   I'm going by BTC-E pricing here and not the inflated mt gox pricing which I ignore.
694  Economy / Economics / Re: DO NOT ALLOW TAXATION IN BITCOIN on: January 17, 2014, 05:20:53 AM
big retailers like amazon have to add the tax to the transaction... the government automatically takes out taxes from wages and you get a tax 'refund' in most cases... as far as taxing capital gains from the value of bitcoin itself, that's not going to happen... trading the crypto currencies is fairly transparent and you will only get caught if you are stupid (cashing out bitcoins putting them in the bank, etc) ... use the bitcoins to directly purchase a product instead...

It's not like a stock broker where they have to report every transaction to the IRS or anything which is nice as it eliminates a lot of needless paperwork and irritation.   Of course governments in theory could clamp down on the exchanges themselves because everyone 'wants their piece of the pie' in a fractional reserve world where we have more debt than we do money to pay it off.. everyone is always chasing to have their piece.
695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the chances BTC is replaced by something better soon? on: January 17, 2014, 03:01:51 AM
yep, doge brings nothing new to the table... the one thing that bitcoin has going for it is when people think of crypto currencies, they only know 'bitcoin' because the media only says 'bitcoin' .. they never mention 'litecoin' or any other for that matter.
696  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Accepting Credit Cards for Bitcoin - Why Not? on: January 17, 2014, 02:27:33 AM
Credit cards are a  bad  idea
It was never safe and had to many security problems.
Its better  BTC  stays away from credit card transactions.

credit cards offer buyer protection from scamming sellers... it works both ways. Bitcoin offers no protection which is still it's Achilles heel.  It's great for some circumstances, not so great for others. Personally I like the idea of passing along paper wallets like currency that can easily be verified but even then the person who makes the wallet controls the private key so thus you'd have to transfer the balance to your own account right away to avoid it being taken back.

This should all be resolved in time though.. fraud protection will be built into future coins, for better or for worse, no system is perfect when dishonest people are part of it.
697  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2 problems with Bitcoin on: January 17, 2014, 01:32:55 AM
it's fun just to be able to trade and mess with these currencies without having to worry about taxes on each transaction. US government tax code is so obnoxious it makes me not want to do anything recordable (frequent trading of stocks) but bitcoin.. I can just buy and sell, no paper trail.

As for mt gox having higher bitcoin prices... because it takes forever to withdraw funds, higher risk means a built in premium. Only an idiot would buy bitcoins from mt gox at those prices. I'd trust BTC-E's spot price far more... most are in line with that. Mt Gox can be ignored.
698  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Domain for Sale - CryptoCurrencyPlanet.com on: January 16, 2014, 08:30:59 PM
Advertising and site layout are more important than the name of the site these days unless you get a really easy to remember, short name... also with all these different domain names coming out soon, the days of making huge profits from selling domains is coming to an end.

I could go and reserve the domain name "bits.sale" right now and it would be easier to type and for people to remember. At this point good advertising and search engine placement are more important.

699  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interesting capture of current public opinion on: January 16, 2014, 08:10:38 PM
people can give anything they want value.  A commodity with a fixed supply will have a set value based on supply and demand, just like gold, silver, oil, coffee, or whatever. My favorites are platinum and palladium.

Just because someone voted that anything can have value, doesn't mean there's general acceptance.. for the most part people are about as familiar with crypto currencies as they are about buying platinum or palladium bullion... basically a very minute percentage of awareness at this point, even after media attention which has somewhat disappeared as of late.

This whole bitcoin thing is basically an INTJ power user, internet surfing person driven technology right now, which has been usurped by car salesmen like scammers who realize they can profit from people's ignorance.

I don't like to promote other forums but these two forums have high levels of free speech although admittedly there is a republican bias you have to pick through.

I would say that the rise in CO2 levels is an obvious, man induced change. I'm not going to panic about it and pretend we can do anything about it, since some of the same liberals who whine about it are the ones that drive gas guzzling SUVs anyways, and we have china and other developing nations that pollute like crazy. Hopefully it won't lead to a 'runaway' greenhouse effect, but warming the northern climates could be a good thing.. there's a lot of landmass on this planet located in cold, inhospitable environments.
