501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think "iamnotback" really has the" Bitcoin killer"? on: May 12, 2017, 06:13:57 PM
There's not going to be any sort of economic calamity where the internet is shut off.   Plus this mystical coin already exists, it's called XEM and is being rewritten this year and released as "catapult" at which point things really get interesting.

Why mess with success?  The market has chosen the future bitcoin killers. ETH, XEM, and maybe XRP... though I don't plan to participate in XRP at this point when XEM is trading at a fraction of the market cap.

There are a dozen or more proof of stake, proof of importance, delegated proof of stake coins out there that all make the same promises... what sets them apart from each other? They could all potentially be good replacements, but XEM already has a head start and it's code is written from the ground up and has not been duplicated in another coin to my knowledge, aside from the work with Mijin they are doing in Japan.
502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $0.85 transaction fee is absolutely ridiculous! on: May 12, 2017, 06:01:27 PM
Bitcoin is going to be a victim of the miner's greed as some altcoin like XEM (my preferred choice with catapult coming) or ETH takes over the throne. If exchanges ever start pairing directly with other cryptos and bypassing BTC, it will no longer be required to trade altcoins.

How long can we sit around with an ever rising number of unconfirmed transactions before the market decides we need a better solution?
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: [WARNING] Large number of Poloniex members can not withdraw funds. on: May 12, 2017, 05:09:04 PM
To decrease the chance you will have problems with withdraws, don't use TOR or a VPN to make transactions. Use the same IP address and the same computer, all the time.  Don't accidentally try to withdraw over your daily limit. Seriously it's not hard to use a calculator to calculate how much you can take out.. and give yourself a couple hundred dollars as a buffer.

So far I have had no problems withdrawing to GDAX/Coinbase.

Increasing scability takes time. Even the best websites go down with enough load.  In some cases it's taken years for some of the big name brokerage houses to get their websites up to snuff.
504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: POS coins poll and information on: May 12, 2017, 01:56:06 PM
NEM is technically proof of importance but that's close enough to proof of stake to not quibble over it. You forgot about delegated proof of stake coins, such as Ark and Lisk.   Those two are probably both buys here. I picked up some Ark yesterday and threw it into cold storage.   NEM should be starting it's run to $1.5B here in the next day or two.   Cup and handle formation is starting it's upswing.  Best tech besides Ethereum, better in some ways... RISE was based off Lisk, then off Ark, but the devs sold their stakes and ran, scamming their supporters apparently.

The votes for Picoin got me researching it and I signed up for the signature campaign for the heck of it. I don't like the idea of whoring out my signature for a coin that brings nothing new to the table that is probably not going places, but meh.. whatever.
505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Present Bargains on: May 12, 2017, 01:50:41 AM
Might as well stick with XEM.. can't find anything I like more. Ark or Lisk maybe, but there's other delegated proof of stake coins that offer the same promises with a different name.

Truly, everything's been pumped to hell these days, so you'll have to do due diligence. However, if you're looking for a list, the following may help:
FTC
BAY
GOLEM
XRP
NEM
NEXUS

The list is based on the upcoming announcements and plans of the developers of those coins

Almost all of them were pumped and if BTC will continue to go up I don't see any reasons for altcoins growth.

I'd think the opposite.. during the bubbles bitcoin and alts move together and crash together. In any case the reason for the alt to move would be tech that improves upon bitcoin's flaws.  LTC with segwit is a step in the right direciton, but XEM is superior.  There's all the assorted delegated proof of stake coins that all have a solid foundation but which ones will make it and which ones won't, hard to tell.

https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions

^^^^  That is why alts exist. Although LTC could handle the load of simple trading on an exchange, a good proof of stake coin, delegated proof of state, or proof of importance coin with high scalability is what will bring in interest from the financial industry, thus you have Japan's interest in XEM, Mijin, and Catapult, and it's billion dollar market cap despite getting paltry interest from big exchanges.
506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [GNT] GOLEM being added to Coinbase on: May 12, 2017, 01:42:04 AM
They told me they had no plans to add XEM when I sent them a support message. I find it hard to believe they'd add Golem before XEM.  My perception of their credibility would be clouded if they started adding anything but the largest coins with the most potential.  That means XEM and Dash first.
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Crypto Times ep 8: The NEM Show (also LTC, ETH, and PIVX) on: May 12, 2017, 01:03:58 AM
nice summary of Nem. Smiley  Do you have any opinion on Ark or it's older cousin Lisk?
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin after SegWit on: May 11, 2017, 02:01:50 PM
I'd say XEM is more the coin they are excited about in Japan, aside from a silent group of people here who vote for it in polls to be the next big coin but never say much about it.   Although only bitcoin is really seeing transaction delays and no altcoin really needs the type of raw speed XEM's upcoming Catapult code can provide, it's tech really is heads and tails about Litecoin with segwit.  Litecoin with segwit is sufficient to handle transaction volume on an exchange like poloniex, but XEM can handle the type of transactions a financial institution would deal with, with it's hand written, proof of stake code, low fees, fast block times, much lower electricity costs, good transparency, security, etc.

Always fun to look at the unconfirmed transactions bitcoin has.. up around 125K right now.. don't expect your low fee transaction to make it through in a day or three...

https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions

On the other hand XEM's transactions are a low, fixed number that is idiot proof. I was trying to wrap my head around ETH's algo that uses gas and whatnot and it's a bit complicated. haha. No guesswork with XEM, it calculates the fee for you.  1 XEM for up to 19,999 XEM, and 1 more XEM per 10,000 XEM, capping at 25XEM, with messaging adding to the cost, and that cost might be reduced down the road. We want average joes to be able to use it without thinking (as much)

Mona looks like a proof of work clone that brings nothing new to the table, to me. Proof of work is not the future of crypto for large scale adoption. A bunch of big mining operators here or clonecoin pumpers might tell you otherwise, though.   ETH is transitioning to proof of stake for a reason.
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will BU Fork Soon Rip the Network in Half? on: May 11, 2017, 01:33:37 AM
Meanwhile with all the infighting, natural evolution to the blockchain in the form of NEM, ETH, and others are maturing. The market will decide which tech is the best in time.
510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Top 5 Altcoins to Trade/Invest on: May 10, 2017, 11:47:51 PM
XEM
Lisk
Pivx
LTC

There's a few other smaller ones too.. forget their names and I'm at work.  I focus on coins that don't promote anonymity.. for the block chain to attract commercial interest you want transparency.

I'd take LTC before BTC, ETH, and Ripple at this point but XEM before any of these. Best tech.  Basically I'd put money in XEM and LTC for "storage" when I'm not in the smaller altcoins... Best relative percentage appreciation potential, though really XEMs tech is 10 steps ahead of LTC.

I'm still researching so keep posting coins. Smiley. I'll take em all and make a big poll for voting.

Can you please expand on your liking for XEM?

It's a much better currency than a lot of the others. It has proof of stake/importance, lightning fast transaction times, the ability to handle 3000 transactions per second, fast block times, with (relatively) low fixed fees that remove the guesswork. Also, you can attach messages to the transactions for a small cost, which other coins have copied recently. For trading purposes I'd much rather use NEM as a storage medium than BTC because the fees are getting excessive and the delay in the transactions if you don't pay a good fee is a hindrance to profit. It solves a lot of the problems bitcoin has.  There won't be 50,000+ unverified transactions if NEM is the major coin in use. There won't be any.  Also the next revision should see lower fees, as the fees were devised when NEM was trading for much less.

An evolution to the blockchain called "catapult" is coming and will be the basis of what is known as the private blockchain known as Mijin, which is gaining popularity in Japan among banks.

Here's a detailed (somewhat long winded) video that goes through some of the features.  Basically it's designed to be attractive for business, with high scalability along with transparency and tracability and security. As much as I respect bitcoin, solutions like this are the future of the blockchain.  Also another video on his 6 favorite.  This one was one of the more useful I've come across for researching currencies. Now I'm researching more into service coins at the present, with focus on coins that promise to be "decentralized exchanges" to see what I come up with and how viable this tech might be.

I have begun selling a bit of my stake as prudent investing to not keep all eggs in one basket, but part of me regrets it because of the tech present here. Only about 5-10% so far. Assuming the bubble doesn't pop, I see XEM hitting $2B market cap and going head to head with litecoin.  I am retarded though, so don't trust my analysis. Do your own DD. Most of the interest currently comes from Japan, where Mijin is focused. It's relative popularity and hype here on this forum is relatively low, though in voting polls there's clearly a silent audience here who thinks it has potential.

If you're not going to buy XEM, then buy LTC or ETH, or transfer your BTC to LTC or ETH, in my opinion. Segwit is a step in the right direction, though to me seems like more of a patch to old technology than something revoluationary.  You'll get better relative return for your money in LTC and ETH than BTC, in my opinion, though I have no plans to buy ETH when there's XEM at a fraction of the market cap.  I kind of like that we've stablized here around 52 billion.. it can stay parked right here for all I care.. it's good for the economy to not have a massive bubble run that continues  to accelerate and to have consolidation without a crash. Looking at the charts though, it's likely this is just a cup and handle consolidation pattern and the runup will continue in a day or four.

Again, do your own DD. I am retarded and do have a vested interest in XEM aside from what I think about the tech. This is dumbass, signing off.
511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: LTC PRICE prediction on: May 10, 2017, 11:33:40 PM
The disadvantage LTC has is no direct currency pairing on poloniex.  If I could sell other alts for LTC (or better yet XEM) instead of BTC I would but you have to go through BTC first to get LTC, and why subject myself to extra transaction fees and hassle?  An exchange that lets you trade any coin for any coin would fix that.   If LTC had direct pairing it would trade at a 5 billion dollar market cap.   Bitcoin's fees are too high for me to want to use it for coin storage at this point.. replace it with XEM which would cost a dime to trade smaller amounts instead of a buck with much faster transaction times and much higher total transactions per second. Need a storage coin that can handle high liquidity with low fees.
512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Which coins are FAKE projects/SCAMS (list) on: May 10, 2017, 11:30:04 PM
NEM is an evolution of NXT with code made from scratch.. there's no big reason to buy NXT because it likely won't be further developed.  Buy it to speculate, pump, or whatever.

All over $400.  Nice work Bithumb.  If you're going to steal someone's coins at least pick an account with a decent balance. :\
514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Market is going to dump on you at some point on: May 10, 2017, 09:09:02 AM
Meh... We're only at the peak of the bubble when people stop calling a bubble... When everyone is a full on bull, that's when the bubble is close to a peak.  Still way too many people including me "calling" a bubble and being bearish.

I still remember the dot com bubble.  Nobody back then at the end was calling a bubble. It was true flaming bullishness.

516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoin really worth it? on: May 10, 2017, 02:06:54 AM
There are altcoins with good tech but a lot of garbage.  I still like XEM here as a currency and a few others for their services such as potential decentralized exchange.   Bottom line is Bitcoin is old tech with high fees and slow transaction rates.  There are some good replacements out there but most ... 95% are clones of BTC.
517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Exchanges are the real 'cancer' to Crypto and not Miners on: May 09, 2017, 09:23:13 PM
A secure exchange with fees that only go to the nodes that support the service that is 100% secure from hacking or attacks? I'll believe it when I see it. In any case, I've had no issues personally with poloniex, bittrex, or GDAX so far.  Don't do dumb stuff like using tor or VPNs with the service or try to send, whether purposely or accidentially, more than your daily withdraw limit, and you should be alright. If you get your account locked, accept that there are big service delays right now.. best thing is to not get your account locked, thus the above advice. Try to use the same IP address, from your home, same computer to trade all the time, etc.

If you use tor while trading or a VPN, for whatever reason you might have, I don't have much sympathy for ya.
518  Bitcoin / BitcoinJ / Re: Received and Lost Bitcoins in 1 minute!!! on: May 09, 2017, 08:52:01 PM
windows is secure if you know what you're doing. Having been using it since the windows me days and having vivid memories of pirating windows xp version 2505, which was release candidate 1 way back when, I can keep my rig secure just fine.

If you have only an 'average joe' level of PC skills you probably shouldn't be using linux either, lol.. like you'll know what you're doing... not.
519  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How and where I can clean my bitcoin? on: May 09, 2017, 08:46:32 PM
Print out a paper wallet with your bitcoin in it. Put it in the washing machine with no other clothing, just the piece of paper with all your bitcoin on it. Don't laminate the paper or anything you want to clean it right? Run it on the deep clean/dirty cycle with extra rinse.  Add a couple cups of bleach along with your detergent. Should come out sparkling. Wink  (In before the thread is locked/removed)
520  Economy / Exchanges / Re: how many time it takes to confirm btc payment in coinbase? on: May 09, 2017, 08:42:59 PM
Mine never took more than 15 minutes, I'm assuming because the exchanges provided an ample fee when they sent it (poloniex and bittrex)
